St. Louis Rams: Shane's News, Nuggets and Nonsense at Noon
With the St. Louis Rams in a period of high activity including the the start of a new era under Jeff Fisher, the continuing process of Fisher building his coaching staff, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the coming free agency period and the much anticipated lease negotiations, I have decided to start a daily quick hit update for St. Louis Rams fans right here, every day.
I have chosen this format to connect with readers briefly each day, Monday through Friday, via the above titled update/blog.
It will allow the reader to catch up on any important updates via a very brief check of this daily submission. The work day can be very hectic, and this daily format will create an avenue to catch up on the Rams in a very concise manner.
With both exciting and worrisome topics surrounding the Rams, I will focus on those issues while bringing some lighthearted items here to bring you a lunch hour smile or laugh.
Each day, content will be updated and will vary. Content may include:
-Quick hits on players the Rams may target in the NFL Draft or in the upcoming free agency period along with my thoughts, links to scouting reports, etc.

I hope you all will enjoy it.
I am open to suggestions and will be offering regular polls on an almost daily basis. This will be a daily page that you will help create. Poll results will be shared and discussed on the following day, each day.
I may share some quotes from your comments and things along those lines as well.
This page is one that will organically evolve as you and I fine tune a format here for many of us to enjoy.
The first "real" edition will make its premiere tomorrow.
For today, I will leave you with just a couple of quick hitters.
One, the revelation of my all-time favorite St. Louis Ram. Almost got emotional again just watching this clip.
Two, one of my favorite YouTube videos. Pay close attention to the dialogue after "the accident." Quite hilarious in my book. I apologize for the video quality, however.
Have a great day, St. Louis Rams fans, and please share your thoughts in the comment section below.

St. Louis Rams: The Rams State of the Union Address
The President of the United States, Barack Obama, gave his State of the Union Address last night. Whether you loved or hated it, most would agree that some important issues were spoken about.
The St. Louis Rams, although to a much lesser extent, have some important issues to analyze and discuss as well, including the London games, the organization's long-term future, the upcoming 2012 NFL Draft, and the upcoming season.
With that, let us begin our (Jeremy) Staat of the Union Address for the St. Louis Rams:
Let us start by looking at the decision to play games in London (Fletcher).
The decision to do so sent shock-waves throughout St. Louis. It led to increased speculation that the Rams might eventually call another city home. Could London be an option? And if not London, how about (Brock) Berlin? While taking time to (Willie) Ponder different home options, such as London (Fletcher), England, why not some other (John) Burrough there?
Would Rams owner Stan Kroenke consider the previously mentioned Berlin just to be able to show off and drive on the (Fendi) Onobun? Would he want to take the team to Great Britian? Certainly, a Brit (Miller) or two would enjoy that. Would he take the team to Rome? I have no doubt that Roman (Phifer) citizens would love that.
I can tell you without hesitation that almost all of St. Louis hopes none of these occur, as that would leave the city without a team and (Alex) Barron of NFL football and the corresponding worldwide prestige that comes with having an NFL franchise.
St. Louis fans certainly hope the team does not eventually move (D' Marco) Farr away. I do not think they will, for many reasons, including those mentioned here.
More than likely, Kroenke just wants to enhance the St. Louis Rams' reach and revenues by going across the pond to be a (Tim) Brandstater of sorts for the expansion of the Rams brand overseas.
Do I think Kroenke will eventually head out of St. Louis like Alberto (White)? No, I absolutely do not. It is easy to worry but the best thing to do right now is (Brandon) Chillar out. Most likely, the Rams are not going to make like a (Dominique) Byrd and fly away. If so, it would certainly be a (Dejuan) Groce day in St. Louis history.
Concerns have also increased due to the fact that "silent" Stan Kroenke is often (Richie) Incognito. He does not say a lot, but speaking a great deal is just not his (Lorenzo) Styles. Fans might as well accept that.
I (Claude) Wroten early January that Kroenke will not give up his leverage and guarantee a stay in St. Louis with the lease issue coming to a head. One can (J.R.) Reed into that however they choose to, and I understand why fans are (Fred) Weary of the entire issue.
In the end, my faith has not been shaken and I still fully expect the Rams and the Convention and Visitors Convention to (Jason) Craft an agreement. I expect this to be resolved by June (Henley) in a positive manner and for the Rams to remain in St. Louis permanently. When that happens, it will (A.J.) Feeley like the best Christmas or (Marcus) Holliday gift ever.
I do not feel that the CVC will (Spencer) Nead to provide a new stadium right now. I believe that the Rams will settle for some more than (Travis) Minor upgrades to the Edward (Mike) Jones Dome while coming to some sort of agreement down the road that sees Kroenke gaining a prime Pisa (Tinoisamoa) real estate in the city or region for a future stadium site.
That could come at the Bottle District site near the dome. The area is in the (Rod) Hood and a development there could spark revitalization. Another option could be the old Chrysler Grounds in Fenton. Folks down there would Lovell (Pinkney) that.
There, master developer Kronke could develop a complex that will add (Trent) Green for both the Rams and greater St. Louis.
When the time to build comes, obviously someone willl need to call a (Dwaine) Carpenter or two before anyone (Na'il) Diggs into the dirt or (Hayward) Clay to break ground. Of course, any new stadium will probably involve the use of some heavy metals so we can rightfully assume that some (Chris) Long metal (Cameron) Spikes would be utilized to secure the (Lenny) Walls. Obviously, more than just a steel (Dave) Barr or two will be necessary to complete construction. Even the smallest details will be important. Getting the right washing machine, for example. Will Kroenke and the CVC go for quality and shop for those at (Corey) Sears, for example?
It will be interesting to see it all come together. At this point, though, it would be impossible to accurately predict the (Jim) Price of that project, however.
Some say the Rams should move back to Los Angeles.
Those in that camp say that L.A. is their rightful home. If we want to (Jonathon) Wade across those murky waters, why not just take the team back to (Cameron) Cleeland?
Some despise the late Georgia Frontierre for bringing the Rams to her native St. Louis, but, in Missouri, she is remembered as a (Harvey) Dahl for having returned pro football with the aid of Columbia, Missouri's Kroenke.
I do not think Kroenke will sell-out his home state for a few potential pieces of silver. I do not believe that the Missouri born and bred Kroenke will be (Mark) Rypien the hearts out of masses of people from the Show-Me State.
Furthermore, there are no guarantees that he would make more elsewhere. I would say he can make enough to buy a Cadillac (Williams) or a (Jeremy) Lincoln here, wouldn't (C.J. Ah) You?
Kroenke is certainly Rich (Alexis). He and his wife's combined net worth make them the second wealthiest owners in the NFL. Simply put, they have a lot of money in the (Tony) Banks. Their respective wallets are anything but (Todd) Lyght.
That said, the city of St. Louis agreed to the aforementioned lease terms and it is only (Toby) Wright that they make every effort to fulfill their promises regarding it.
If that includes working with governor (David) Nixon on a long-term home in the city or region that would help bring major political conventions, Final Fours, bowl games, a Super Bowl, new business, FIFA soccer matches, exhibition pro soccer, an annual Denver Nuggets regular season game and a general renaissance to the city in aiding the Rams and St. Louis in becoming a greater national, international and global factor, I say strong efforts should be made to do so.
I would assume naming rights would likely go to Walmart or Sam's Club. If for some reason that failed to materialize, another legitimate option could be (Shawn) McDonald's. Regardless of how the team was playing, at least Ronald McDonald would be smiling outside as fans walked in and out of the stadium.
An eventual new stadium would almost certainly make it easier for a person who was a (Anthony) Parker as the tailgating and parking scene would likely improve. That would make it easier for a (Marquis) Walker to more thoroughly enjoy their time at a Rams game.
With over 20 teams receiving new or significantly upgrades since the dome was constructed, eventually a new building with be needed just to keep (Orlando) Pace.
I believe that a (Terry) Fair deal that keeps the Rams in the Gateway City will transpire. At that point, many will view Kroenke as a (Justin) King in St. Louis and all fans here will be (Fred) Stokes to the point that they may feel they are connected to an Amp (Lee).
As for the upcoming NFL (Chris) Draft, it is obvious that the Rams need some (Joey) Goodspeed on offense, even if the Rams need to target a (Torrance) Small or (Leonard) Little wide receiver or running back. A guy like LaMichael James, the fast running back from Oregon, would be an outstanding selection. If his name is available in round 4, the Rams should choose speed, follow through, and (Ryan) Pickett.
St. Louis needs to have a terrific first draft under new head coach Jeff Fisher. The Rams desperately need an infusion of (Brian) Young talent and Fisher will ensure that they are properly coached up.
Fisher, however, is not the first of his kind to come through. Others of his namesake, like Travis Fisher, have walked up and down the same (Dante) Hall at Rams Park.
With Fisher, it is clear that a new Marshall (Faulk) is in town. He will be the (John) Baker that will (Marv) Cook and create what the Rams become and will run the show in St. Louis. I believe he is the man to get this thing Roland (Williams). If I was a betting man, I would at least place a Chip (Lohmiller) or two on Fisher turning thing around quickly. I believe the Rams will (Robert) Quinn soon under his leadership.
After a 2-14 season and a five year 10-65 record, admittedly, the (Tye) Hill is steep to climb back to respectability. However, with a new head coach in place and some better players running up and down those (Mark) Fields, the Rams will get this turned around.
With a few (Eric) Moore pieces on defense, including those returning from injuries, that unit is not far away. St. Louis will have an aggressive scheme under new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams and the Rams should be able to (Dustin) Fry some offenses this year by attacking them via the pass rush with the likes of Long and Quinn chasing quarterbacks in 2012.
It may seem that a playoff run is out of the question, but Yo (Murphy), I would have to disagree.
Adding a playmaker like Justin Blackmon could be (Adam) Goldberg for the Rams offense. Blackmon is a (Dane) Looker for sure. His appearance and play reminds some of a hybrid of Anquan Boldin and Terrell Owens, two receivers who have had stellar careers.
He would help the Rams produce more efficiently in the red zone and score more touchdowns. A player of his talents should also help us get into field goal range more often, hopefully for some Chip (Lohmiller) shots.
Adding a game changer such as Blackmon should certainly help put a (Torry) Holt to the impoverished offenses of recent years. The grass could certainly be greener this year with some upgrades around Sam Bradford. If so, it will feel like spring around St. Louis this fall. Even though the leaves on the trees will be turning (Fakhir) Brown that time of year, people in St. Louis will be seeing and dreaming of nothing but beautiful (Eric) Flowers and pleasant thoughts for a change.
Hopefully, in the end, looking back on 2012, all of the speculation around the team's future here will be settled making all the conspiracy theories (Keith) Null.
Getting the team on a winning track and getting the lease settled will produce overdue and long desired joy and freedom for St. Louis fans. Perhaps someone will be so excited about shaking off this yoke of bondage that they will drive to Philadelphia and ring the Liberty (Jacob) Bell! It will certainly (A.J.) Feeley good.
I am convinced that things are looking up for St. Louis both on and off the gridiron. If you have a girlfriend who is not a Rams fan, you might want to (Kurt) Warner that the St. Louis Rams are on the way back. The Rams will soon be making like a professional (Kyle) Boller and knocking down the competition. Fisher will likely have his players stomping competitors like a (David) Roach.
By the time opponents reach halftime against the always hard-nosed Fisher led teams, they may be looking for a (Devin) Bush to hide in. By the end of the game, they will likely often head home feeling very uncomfortable, as if they had ran through a patch of poison (Corey) Ivy.
Soon, the Edward (Robert) Jones Dome will be filled with celebrities again like Mike Jones and Billy Williams.
Good times are ahead.

Report: St. Louis Rams Owner Stan Kroenke Has Explored Bidding on L.A. Dodgers
If one thought the drama would ever end for St. Louis fans, now comes word that St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke has explored the possibility of bidding on the Los Angeles Dodgers (like Magic Johnson, Mark Cuban and Peter O' Malley), according to this report from The Los Angeles Times.
A separate piece from FOX Sports says there have already been several bids placed that surpassed a billion dollars each. Dodgers owner Frank McCourt is hoping to attain up to $2 billion in a franchise sale.
It should be noted, however, that this report has not been verified (nor denied) by Kroenke or the Rams. Perhaps Kroenke just wants his name in the news as much as those who will be involved in all of the presidential debates in the upcoming months.
Regardless of the motive, if the report proves accurate (particularly if it is found that Kroenke placed a bid), St. Louis fans may need to go under surveillance.
St. Louis fans are already nervous about upcoming negotiations between the Rams and the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission on Feb. 1. If a deal is not reached by the end of the year, the Rams could be free to leave St. Louis following the 2014 season.
Not only that, the recent revelation that the Rams will play one "home" game in London, England each year between 2012 and 2014 sent initial shock waves through the city and state and further worried a jittery fanbase.
Most fanbases would think it was more than enough putting up with the Rams' 15-65 five-year stretch. At this point, that is just a minor issue in St. Louis when compared to the anxiety surrounding the possibility, however remote, of the organization moving to another city, such as L.A. or London.
As for London and the franchise's future, the Rams' chief operating officer and vice president of football operations, Kevin Demoff, tackled a wide array of tough questions in the last few days, as covered here.
New Rams head coach Jeff Fisher recently went on record stating his belief that Kroenke wants to be in St. Louis and that St. Louis is where this organization needs to be, in spite of Kroenke sharing little in the way of public commitment towards staying in the Gateway City during Fisher's introductory press conference.
Although indications point to an eventual resolution and the Rams remaining in St. Louis long term, the continual chain of controversial happenings combined with the lease concerns lend itself to rampant speculation.
Is Kroenke looking at moving his team from medium-market St. Louis, the nation's 18th-largest metropolitan area, to a larger one?
Are the London games just a way to increase revenue, spread the brand, make the Rams a bigger name and expose some of St. Louis' many Fortune 500 and Fortune 1000 companies to a broader demographic? Or is it a trial run at a permanent home across the pond?
Or, is much of this all a leverage game and a grand negotiations strategy played by the ever-shrewd, "silent" Stan Kroenke?
Time will tell, but one thing is certain: It will be interesting—very interesting—to watch this play out.
Stay tuned to the St. Louis Rams for guaranteed suspense, drama and consistent surprises. While they have not been exciting on the field for some time, the action is always interesting away from it.
Again, I believe Kroenke and the city of St. Louis will work it out.
I do not believe Kroenke, who was the lead investor for a St. Louis expansion bid in the early 1990s, will abandon a favorable lease and his home state of 60-plus years.
I do not believe that when Kroenke bought the Rams only on the predetermined condition that the franchise move to St. Louis, that a big-picture plan and vision was not in place.
I do, however, believe Kroenke will accept some improvements to the Edward Jones Dome for now in a compromise with the CVC that would see Kroenke receiving prime land in the city/region of St. Louis that could be used as a future stadium site and developmental area. I believe master developer Kroenke would later construct a terrific complex around a Walmart Field or Sam's Club Stadium there.
Rams COO and VP of Football Operations Kevin Demoff has repeatedly and emphatically stated that the organization is committed to "building a winner in and for St. Louis."
Whatever happens, the process will obviously be anything but boring.

St. Louis Rams Hire Dave McGinnis as Assistant Head Coach
As reported by The Tennessean and many others, the St. Louis Rams and Jeff Fisher are adding veteran coach Dave McGinnis as assistant head coach. Fisher and McGinnis previously worked together in these same roles with the Tennessee Titans from 2004-2010.
Before becoming Fisher's assistant head coach in 2005, McGinnis spent 2004 at linebacker coach exclusively before serving as both linebacker and assistant head coach from 2005 through 2010.
McGinnis, a 38-year veteran to the coaching profession, began his career as an assistant coach with Texas Christian University in 1973 before moving to the University of Missouri in 1975, where he would remain for three seasons.
His career has essentially come full circle, as he returns to the state of Missouri, the home of his previously mentioned second coaching job at Mizzou.
New defensive coordinator Gregg Williams (who also coached with Fisher in Tennessee) is making a homecoming, too. Williams, most recently the defensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints, is a native of the Show-Me State, having been born just outside of Kansas City in Belton.
As for McGinnis, he is best known for his time as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals from 2001 through 2003 after closing out 2000 as the Cardinals' interim head coach.
McGinnis will bring great expertise and a familiarity with Fisher's head coaching style to St. Louis. The two should have no trouble reconnecting in their head coach/assistant head coach relationship after sharing six prior years within that same format.

Report: St. Louis Rams Hire Mike Waufle of Raiders as Defensive Line Coach
According to the NFL Network as reported by CBS Sports, the St. Louis Rams have hired former Oakland Raiders defensive line coach Mike Waufle for the same position.
Waufle was the Oakland Raiders defensive line coach from 1998 through 2003 and again in 2010 and 2011. In between, he coached the defensive line of the New York Giants from 2004 through 2009.
In February of 2008, his Giants' defensive line relentlessly attacked Tom Brady during the Giants Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots.
Waufle has coached the likes of Michael Strahan, Osi Umenyiora and Justin Tuck and could assist further in the development of Chris Long, and certainly in the progression of the 14th pick of the 2011 NFL Draft, Robert Quinn.
Both the 2011 Rams and Raiders accumulated 39 sacks on the year, tied for 15th in the league.
However, in 2010, Oakland was tied for second in the NFL with 47 team sacks, behind only the Pittsburgh Steelers, who amassed 48.
Of note, Waufle's defensive tackles contributed 12.5 of those 47 sacks, a very impressive total and one that would be appealing to Fisher, who likes big defensive tackles who can penetrate.
Waufle is known as a highly intense and aggressive coach, and should fit in with Gregg Williams, the Rams new defensive coordinator who served in that role for Jeff Fisher with the Tennessee Titans from 1997-2000. In Williams' final year with the team, the Titans led the NFL in total defense under his mutual watch with Fisher.
St. Louis appears set at defensive end for years to come with Long and Quinn as bookends there along with James Hall, the still-productive veteran who will likely return.
However, the defensive tackle position is long in the tooth. By the opening of the 2012 NFL season, Fred Robbins will be 35 and Justin Bannan will be 33.
With that, look for Waufle to be coaching up some young defensive tackles, who will eventually be added through free agency and/or the 2012 NFL Draft.

St. Louis Rams Hire Brian Schottenheimer as Offensive Coordinator
According to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the St. Louis Rams are officially hiring Brian Schottenheimer, most recently the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets, for the same position in St. Louis. In a tweet, Thomas reported:
@jthom1Jim Thomas Rams hire brian schottenheimer as offensive coordinator.
Schottenheimer oversaw the Jets' offense from 2006-2011. Interestingly, he served as an offensive assistant with the Rams in 1997, so this will mark his second stint in St. Louis.
In the past, he served as an assistant coach for his father, Marty Schottenheimer, with the San Diego Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Redskins.
While in New York, Schottenheimer interviewed for the vacant head coaching job after the firing of Eric Mangini before losing out to current head coach Rex Ryan.
Schottenheimer was always looked at as the favorite for the St. Louis offensive coordinator role after the departure of Josh McDaniels and the hiring of head coach Jeff Fisher.
However, the Rams did interview former offensive coordinator and Oakland Raiders head coach Hue Jackson before coming to an agreement with Schottenheimer.
Schottenheimer will call the plays and direct the offense of Sam Bradford, Steven Jackson and the Rams in the upcoming Jeff Fisher era.

St. Louis Rams' Jeff Fisher Says St. Louis is Where the Rams Should Stay
New St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher, in response to a direction question by Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch about any concerns of a potential franchise move, told 101sports.com:
I was put completely at ease by Mr. Kroenke. He assured me that we're going to do everything possible...my gut feel and my hope is that they get everything worked out. This is the place this team needs to be.
The first three weeks of January have been a whirlwind in St. Louis.
The team promptly fired Steve Spagnuolo and Billy Devaney after their shared regime went 10-38 overall and 2-14 in 2011.
The team then targeted the well-respected Fisher as the next head coach and, after an anxious time of waiting, the Rams landed their man.
Finally, after a few days of rare joy, cheer and hope came today's revelation that St. Louis would play one home game in London every year from 2012 through 2014, the same year that the Rams could potentially exit St. Louis for a new home city.
With anxious fans already sweating over the upcoming lease negotiations, especially after Rams owner Stan Kroenke made a public non-commitment to St. Louis during the Fisher introductory press conference, it was at least mildly reassuring to hear the new head coach express a stout statement in support of a permanent Rams home here.
Amidst what some considered to be a tough and challenging day in St. Louis, the words of Fisher were at least somewhat comforting to many of the Rams faithful.
