Newly acquired Sacramento Kings star Zach LaVine addressed his departure from the Chicago Bulls and thanked the organization and its fanbase.
"It's tough to put into words how much this city and this organization have meant to me over the past 8 years," he said in a post on X. "Chicago, you've welcomed me with open arms, and the memories we've created together will stay with me forever. The fans here are unlike any other—you've made playing in Chicago a true honor, and I'll always be grateful for your support. To my teammates, coaches, and the entire Bulls staff thank you."

LaVine landed in Chicago ahead of his fourth season in the NBA, having been part of Jimmy Butler's trade to the Minnesota Timberwolves. While a member of the Bulls, he blossomed into a two-time All-Star and one of the better pound-for-pound scorers in franchise history.
The 6'5" guard averaged 24.2 points per game, which is the third-highest for a Bulls player, and he's sixth all time in points (10,056).
At the end of the day, LaVine's eight-year run may not be remembered all that fondly by Bulls fans, which is less about him and more a larger reflection of the organization.
The 29-year-old made the playoffs just once with Chicago, and that resulted in a first-round exit at the hands of the Milwaukee Bucks after five games.
Under Tom Thibodeau, the Bulls had a firm on-court identity, stars for the fanbase to rally around, and consistent success from year to year. Thibodeau was fired after the 2014-15 season and it has been a downhill slide ever since then.
The LaVine trade probably didn't spark a ton of emotions aside from anger at the fact Chicago got little in return for its best player aside from salary relief, pretty much the same story from when the Bulls sent DeMar DeRozan to the Kings in a sign-and-trade.
LaVine wasn't spared from criticism as a member of the Bulls because no star player ever is. But there was always a tacit acknowledgement the team's issues went far beyond his contributions on the court.
Giannis Jokes He Wants Nikola Jokić on the Knicks After Lakers' Trade for Luka Dončić

After the Dallas Mavericks traded star guard Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday, Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo has some lofty ideas about where other stars should end up before Thursday's trade deadline.
"You know what I want? I want Luka to the Lakers, I want Nikola Jokić to the New York Knicks, I want all the Europeans to go to all the big markets to see something incredible," Giannis said, per BasketNews.
Of course, the Denver Nuggets are unlikely to follow the Mavs' footsteps and trade away their biggest star. Still, Sunday's deal was enough for Antetokounmpo to keep his dream alive.
"This is what I want, this is my dream, but again, I wish both teams the best of luck with their journey moving forward," he added.
Antetokounmpo and Jokić will meet for the first time this season when the Nuggets visit the Bucks on Feb. 27 on TNT at 7:30 p.m. ET.
NBA Trade Rumors: Bucks Eye Kyle Kuzma amid Jimmy Butler, Suns Buzz Before Deadline

The Milwaukee Bucks are reportedly interested in adding a veteran forward amid rumors involving Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler.
Per NBA insider Jake Fischer, "there has been little fresh chatter" about the Bucks pursuing Butler and the team has "more recently had conversations about pursuing" Washington Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma.
Kuzma, now in his fourth season with the Wizards, is putting up 15 points and 5.8 rebounds per game this year. His numbers are slightly down from the past few seasons, which have seen him average north of 20 points per game, but he's still a reliable scorer who could fit well into the system in Milwaukee.
Recent reports have also indicated that Kuzma could be open to a change.
The Athletic's Josh Robbins reported last week that "all indications are that Kuzma is less patient now with the Wizards' direction" than he was a year ago when Washington asked him if he would be interested in a trade.
Kuzma said recently that last year wasn't the right time for a trade, but seemed more open to the idea this year.
"We'll see how it goes. I don't know. I didn't think last year was the right time (for a trade) after signing the deal (a four-year contract in 2023)," Kuzma said, per Robbins. "That was kind of more of a last-year thing. I haven't had conversations (with Wizards management). I haven't even talked about the deadline, haven't talked about being traded. So, this is really the first time I'm really talking about it."
A trade to the Bucks could be the right move for all parties. The Wizards, still deep in a rebuild, could get some valuable draft picks (the Bucks have first-round picks in 2026, 2027, 2028, 2030 and 2031). Milwaukee could add another scoring option alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard, which it seemingly needs to compete for a title.
Kuzma, 29, would get the chance to play for a Finals contender for the first time since his days with the Lakers.
Kuzma is already an NBA champion, but he's spending his prime playing for a team unequipped to make the playoffs, let alone a deep postseason run. If Milwaukee wanted to trade for him, he'd likely embrace joining the Bucks.

Zach LaVine's time in Chicago has come to an end. And he's not the only one changing teams.
The Bulls are trading the 29-year-old to the Sacramento Kings as part of a three-team deal that also involves the San Antonio Spurs, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. The full details of the trade are as follows:
Full trade:
Spurs: De'Aaron Fox, Jordan McLaughlin
Kings: Zach LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, three first round picks (2025 CHA, 2027 SAS, 2031 MIN), three second round picks (2025 CHI, 2028 DEN, 2028 own back)
Bulls: Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, their own 2025 pick via SAS https://t.co/UgwylCUYAO
With LaVine added to the mix, the Kings' depth chart now looks like this:
PG: Devin Carter, Keon Ellis
SG: Zach LaVine, Malik Monk, Colby Jones, Sidy Cissoko
SF: DeMar DeRozan, Doug McDermott, Jae Crowder
PF: Keegan Murray, Trey Lyles, Isaac Jones
C: Domantas Sabonis, Alex Len
Meanwhile, the Bulls' roster will look quite different after losing their biggest star:
PG: Josh Giddey, Tre Jones, Lonzo Ball
SG: Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu, Kevin Huerter
SF: Dalen Terry, Talen Horton-Tucker
PF: Patrick Williams, Matas Buzelis, Julian Phillips
C: Nikola Vučević, Zach Collins, Jalen Smith
The Spurs landed the biggest star in the deal by acquiring De'Aaron Fox, who instantly becomes the top running mate for star big man Victor Wembanyama:
Spotrac mapped out the future draft picks for the Spurs, Bulls and Kings after Sunday's blockbuster trade, though it should be noted that Chicago didn't receive any new picks in the deal.
Here are the first round picks that San Antonio has remaining:
Own: 6 of their next 7 Two unprotected from Atlanta (2025 and 2027)
Swap rights: Atlanta (2026) Swap rights: Boston (2028, top-1 protected) Swap rights: More favorable of Dallas and Minnesota (top-1 protected)…
Charania added on The Rally at the time that the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers all had a "level of interest," and Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times reported in December that LaVine wanted to be moved to the Purple and Gold.
LaVine had spent the last six seasons of his career in Chicago alongside DeMar DeRozan. However, the duo only led the Bulls to one postseason appearance during their time together, which came during the 2021-22 season when they fell to the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round.
With the duo failing to get Chicago over the hump, it was clear the Bulls needed to make a change and perhaps enter a rebuild. That retooling began with the offloading of Alex Caruso in a deal for Josh Giddey of the Oklahoma City Thunder on June 21.
LaVine has been one of the best players in the NBA over his six-year career in Chicago, earning two All-Star selections. However, his $40-plus million annual salary doesn't match the performances he has put together over the last two seasons.
In 144 games between the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons, the UCLA product averaged 24.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists while shooting 48.1 percent from the floor and 38.2 percent from deep.
In 25 games during the 2023-24 season LaVine averaged 19.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists while shooting 45.2 percent from the floor and 34.9 percent from beyond the arc.
Through 42games of the 2024-25 campaign, LaVine is averaging 24.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists.
LaVine underwent season-ending foot surgery last February and was ruled out for the remainder of the year, resulting in him playing less than half of the 2023-24 season. He appears to be back at full strength this year.
LaVine has three years remaining on his five-year, $215.2 million deal. A change of scenery should benefit the veteran, and the Kings will be hoping he lives up to the remainder of that contract.
It's no surprise LaVine now finds himself in Sacramento.
K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago reported June 20 that the Kings were among the teams that Chicago had held LaVine trade discussions with this offseason. The Utah Jazz, Orlando Magic and Philadelphia 76ers also had discussions for LaVine, Johnson added.
After falling to the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the 2023 playoffs following a brilliant finish to the 2022-23 regular season (48-34), it became clear Sacramento needed to make some upgrades alongside Domantas Sabonis.
That only became more clear after Sacramento missed the postseason entirely in 2023-24. The team currently ranks 10th in the West with a 24-24 record.
Meanwhile, the Spurs will also be adding some star power by landing Fox.
The 27-year-old is averaging 25 points, five rebounds and 6.1 assists per game this season. He's shooting 46.9 percent from the floor.
Adding Fox gives San Antonio an exciting duo moving forward, as the deal now gives the team another piece around Wembanyama.
This move should give a boost to the Spurs' playoff chances, as they look to find a rhythm after a 21-25 start to the season.
Meanwhile, the Bulls—who sit at 21-29—will now look toward the future after moving on from LaVine.
Giannis Rips Chris Paul over Shove: 'People That Know Me, They Don't Try Me'

Chris Paul, who has a long history of being an on-court agitator, was able to get under the skin of Giannis Antetokounmpo in the fourth quarter of the San Antonio Spurs' 144-118 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday night.
Antetokounmpo took exception to Paul shoving him as he was driving to the basket, leading to the Bucks star landing on his hip and back. Antetokounmpo pointed at Paul and said something to him, resulting in a brief skirmish between both teams.
"People that know me, they don't try me," Antetokounmpo told reporters after the game. "If you try me, it's a different side. If you try me, you're gonna get that different side of me."
The situation didn't end after officials broke up the on-court skirmish. Antetokounmpo waited at half court after the final buzzer sounded to say something to Paul. He explained after the game why he made a point to wait on the court:
"At the end of the day, I think we're all men. We all respect one another. If words cross the line, then there's got to be consequences. I really don't say much. I don't say much to start with, try to play the game the right way. If I feel like you're putting my livelihood, my career and my body in jeopardy in danger, enough is enough, brother. I have a family to feed, and what makes you laugh can also make you cry sometimes."
It does appear in the video that Paul's arms are extended when Antetokounmpo falls to the ground, suggesting the Spurs guard shoved him down.
Paul has developed something of a reputation for being a feisty player, but there was nothing about this that looked egregious. Officials reviewed the play and determined it was a common foul, rather than a technical or flagrant.
There's also an argument that Paul made things worse because in between Antetokounmpo's first and second free-throw attempts, he pantomimed a free-throw motion with Antetokounmpo looking right at him.
The Spurs were winning by 20 points at the time of the foul. Both players were removed from the game after Antetokounmpo's second free throw.
While Antetokounmpo certainly had reasons to be angry at Paul for what happened, there may have been additional frustration with how the Bucks performed. They allowed a season-high 144 points and have lost three of their last four games.
NBA Rumors: Obi Toppin Trade Discussed by Pacers; Andrew Nembhard Deal Unlikely

The surging Indiana Pacers have made themselves an interesting team to watch leading up to the NBA trade deadline, but they are unlikely to deal from their current top seven players if there's a move to be made.
Per The Athletic's Fred Katz, Obi Toppin's name has come up in discussions between the Pacers and opposing teams, but there's not "much traction" in those talks at this point.
Katz also noted Andrew Nembhard is a player opposing teams are very interested in, but the Pacers aren't interested in dealing him right now.
The offseason seems more likely when we will see the Pacers look to make moves. They could be pushing up against the tax threshold with $222.8 million in cap allocations for the 2025-26 season.
Paying the tax is not something Pacers governor Herb Simon is accustomed to doing. Katz wrote they haven't operated in the luxury tax since 2005 "when salaries were a fraction of what they are today and rules for tax teams were more manageable."
This suggests that there could be roster changes in Indiana after this season. It could also limit any potential moves the team makes before the trade deadline since they are operating just $147,335 under the threshold right now.
Toppin would seem like one of the first players the Pacers look to move. He's in the first season of a four-year, $58 million extension. The 26-year-old is a useful contributor off the bench for head coach Rick Carlisle, but he's not among the most essential players on the roster.
Nembhard absolutely is an essential piece for the Pacers. He's one of their top defenders, while averaging career-highs in scoring average (10.6 points per game) and assists (5.2) this season.
The Pacers gave Nembhard a three-year, $59 million extension last offseason that kicks in with the 2025-26 season.
After a slow start this season, the Pacers are playing more like the team that made a run to the Eastern Conference Finals last season. They have won 11 of their last 14 games and sit in fifth place in the East standings.
Myles Turner Trade Rumors: Pacers Not Expected to Move Center amid Lakers Buzz

It sounds like another veteran center is off the board for the Los Angeles Lakers as the Feb. 6 trade deadline draws nearer.
NBA insider Marc Stein reported on Thursday that "the prevailing leaguewide sense" is that the Indiana Pacers "do not want to trade" longtime center Myles Turner, who was rumored to be a candidate to be moved before next week's deadline.
Turner is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, so the Pacers are risking the possibility of losing him for nothing on the open market. Still, Stein added that there's "a strong belief among some league personnel that Indiana would need to see proposals that return a starting-level center to even consider the notion" of trading him.
The Lakers have been known to be seeking an upgrade at center for quite some time. Star big man Anthony Davis even told ESPN's Shams Charania that he feels he's more effective when he's allowed to play power forward. The franchise reportedly heard his message loud and clear.
According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, trading for another center "has become even more of a priority for the Lakers" following Davis' comments.
However, Los Angeles will have to make a major offer to Indiana if it wants to convince to team to let go of Turner before the deadline passes.
NBA Rumors: Pacers' Bennedict Mathurin Monitored by Multiple Teams at Trade Deadline
Jan 30, 2025
SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA - DECEMBER 22: Bennedict Mathurin #00 of the Indiana Pacers dribbles the ball in the second quarter against the Sacramento Kings at Golden 1 Center on December 22, 2024 in Sacramento, California. Indiana Pacers guard Bennedict Mathurin "is being monitored by nearly every team seen as a buyer at the deadline," according to the Los Angeles Times' Dan Woike.
Woike reported the Pacers are believed to have a high price tag for Mathurin as they sit fifth in the Eastern Conference at 26-20. Indiana could want "a player it values while trying to recoup the first-round pick it spent on Mathurin."
The 22-year-old is averaging 16.4 points and 5.9 rebounds, and he's shooting 47.1 percent overall and 36.4 percent on three-pointers.
A sixth man for most of his first two years on the Pacers, Mathurin has become a regular starter at the 3 for head coach Rick Carlisle.
A trade involving the 6'6" wing felt much more likely before the 2024-25 season tipped off. HoopsHype's Michael Scotto reported in June that "rival executives have inquired about [Mathurin] and Jarace Walker," only to be rebuffed by Indiana.
The team's performance would seemingly lessen the odds of a swap. Dealing Mathurin only makes sense if the Pacers are getting an immediate upgrade, somebody who can help them bridge the gap on the Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics and New York Knicks.
Granted, his restricted free agency in 2026 is likely to be more and more of a consideration for the front office.
Assuming he declines the qualifying offer, Indiana will have the right to match an offer sheet he signs with another team that offseason. Re-signing Mathurin may not be a straightforward decision, though, when the collective bargaining agreement is so financially constraining.
Tyrese Haliburton and Pascal Siakam combine to make nearly $98 million by themselves for the 2026-27 season, and that's the second year of Andrew Nembhard's $58.7 million extension.
For Indiana, there might be a better way to invest the money it will take to keep Mathurin around long term.
Because he's still more than a year away from free agency, it's difficult to see how that calculation is made before the Feb. 6 deadline, however.
Blazers' Blowout Win vs. Bucks Stuns NBA Fans in Damian Lillard's Return to Portland

Damian Lillard remains winless at Moda Center in two games as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Bucks, playing on the second night of a back-to-back, were defeated 125-112 by the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday night. Lillard scored 20 points on 7-of-17 shooting and dished out six assists in 38 minutes.
The game did start on a high note for Lillard, who received a warm welcome from the Portland crowd during pregame introductions.
That was about the end of the good vibes for Lillard. His 20 points were his fewest in a game since Jan. 4 when he scored 16 against these same Trail Blazers in Milwaukee.
There haven't been a lot of wins by the Blazers in recent years, but they certainly have fun going up against Lillard and the Bucks.
Damian Lillard's 4 games vs. Blazers since the trade:
The Blazers now own a three game winning streak over the Milwaukee Bucks and tonight was pure domination as the closest the Bucks got in the 4th was 7 pts with 11 mins to go.
The big winner of the game was Anfernee Simons, who thrived up against his former mentor and teammate. He dropped 25 points on 9-of-17 shooting and had one moment in the third quarter when he was able to shake off Lillard in a manner similar to what Lillard has done to opposing players throughout his career.
"Simons dancing with his mentor..."
Anfernee Simons spent 5 seasons learning the trick of the trade from Damian Lillard...
The biggest issue for the Bucks in this game was trying to contain Deni Avdija. The 24-year-old put up a season-high 30 points in 38 minutes. Deandre Ayton, returning to the lineup after a three-game absence, recorded his third straight double-double (21 points, 14 rebounds).
Milwaukee definitely looked like an older team playing its second game in as many nights. Khris Middleton, after playing 27 minutes against the Utah Jazz on Monday, had zero points in 15 minutes against the Blazers. This is the second time in three games he's been held scoreless.
Giannis Antetokounmpo did all he could to carry the Bucks with 39 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. He's recorded a double-double in 17 consecutive games, including three straight games with at least 30 points and 10 rebounds.
Even though the Bucks have figured out some of the issues that contributed to their slow start this season, playing on the road remains a problem. They are now 9-12 away from Fiserv Forum.
Lillard and the Bucks will wrap up their four-game Western Conference road trip on Friday when they take on the San Antonio Spurs at Frost Bank Center.
NBA Rumors: Bucks 'Determined' to Make Trade to Enhance Roster Around Giannis, Dame
Jan 29, 2025

The Milwaukee Bucks have come a long way from their disastrous start to the 2024-25 season, but they're reportedly set on making a splash at the trade deadline to bolster their roster.
Per NBA insider Marc Stein, the Bucks are "as determined as any team on the NBA map" to make at least one trade before the deadline, which is just over a week away. One such deal could be for the Miami Heat's disgruntled star Jimmy Butler, who requested a trade earlier this month.
Stein noted that to combine contracts in an offer for Butler—or any player—Milwaukee would first have to shed Pat Connaughton's three-year, $28.271 million contract. Getting rid of Connaughton's contract could be achievable in a trade for Butler if the Heat want it.
It's also worth noting that the only pick the Bucks can trade is their 2031 first-rounder.
The Bucks also have two players that would likely be appealing to Miami in Khris Middleton and Bobby Portis. The Heat are on the brink of playoff contention and could likely stay in the postseason race with Middleton and Portis on the roster.
Even if Milwaukee can't make a move as extreme as landing Butler, there are a number of players that could help turn the Bucks into more of a championship contender. Whether they will go all in for Butler or pivot to other options remains to be seen.
The Bucks are currently in fourth place in the Eastern Conference at 26-18.
Milwaukee's success can mostly be attributed to the play of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard this year. Antetokounmpo is playing at an MVP level, putting up 31.5 points, 12.2 rebounds and 5.9 assists while Lillard has had his usual offensive production, averaging 25.5 points and 7.3 assists per game.
From there, the Bucks don't have too many offensive options, so adding a scoring threat could be a priority before the deadline.
