Diana Taurasi is already the WNBA's all-time leading scorer in the regular season.

Now she holds the playoff record.

The Phoenix Mercury guard took sole possession of the all-time postseason scoring record in Sunday's semifinal game against the Seattle Storm.

She entered Sunday seven points behind Tamika Catchings on the all-time list. Catchings needed 68 games to score 1,141 points, while Taurasi was playing in her 55th.

Cynthia Cooper (23.3 PPG) and Angel McCoughtry (22.8 PPG) are the only two players who have a higher career playoff scoring average than Taurasi (21.0 PPG) among women who have played at least 10 postseason contests.

Taurasi has led the Mercury to 13 consecutive wins in winner-take-all games.

"She amazes me, really, every single day," Mercury head coach Sandy Brondello said, per Katie Barnes of espnW. "To do what she does at such a high level and at her age is amazing. It shows her competitiveness. She will do whatever it takes to win."

Phoenix has won three WNBA championships with Taurasi on the roster, with the nine-time All-Star winning the Finals MVP twice.

According to TMZ Sports, "Griner and Watson—who met as students at Baylor back in the day—have been dating for years and have been pretty much inseparable ever since."

Griner, 27, is averaging 20.2 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game for the Mercury this year as one of the WNBA's top centers. She's a five-time All-Star and won a title in 2014, though now she's truly put a ring on it.

During Tuesday's game against the New York Liberty, Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi became the first player in WNBA history to eclipse 8,000 career points.

Bleacher Report tweeted the following graphic to honor the accomplishment:

Taurasi reached the 8,000-point mark with just over five minutes remaining in the first quarter of Tuesday morning's contest:

Taurasi surpassed Tina Thompson as the WNBA's all-time leading scorer last season.

The 35-year-old veteran has arguably been the WNBA's premier player since Phoenix selected her with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2004 draft out of UConn.

Over the course of her storied WNBA career, Taurasi is an eight-time All-Star, five-time scoring champion, three-time WNBA champion, two-time WNBA Finals MVP and the 2009 WNBA regular-season MVP.

Entering Tuesday, Taurasi boasts career averages of 19.7 points, 4.2 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game. In seven contests this season, Taurasi is averaging 18.6 points, 3.7 assists and 2.4 rebounds.

The Mercury entered Tuesday in third place in the Western Conference with a record of 4-3.

Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner made history in Friday's game between the Mercury and the Minnesota Lynx, becoming the fourth-fastest player in NBA or WNBA history to reach 500 career blocks.

As Phoenix noted, the 6'9", 205-pound Griner reached the milestone in 153 career games, making her the quickest in league history to the benchmark. It's the same number of games it took Basketball Hall of Famer Alonzo Mourning to reach the number.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 WNBA draft, Griner has made a living off swatting away opponent's shots. She has averaged 3.2 blocks per game in her five-plus seasons in the league, including an astounding 4.0 blocks per game in 2015.

The 27-year-old is averaging 20.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per contest through five games this season.

Griner already has quite the impressive resume: 2017 WNBA scoring champ, four-time All-Star and 2014 WNBA champion. She has led the league in blocks every year since she was drafted.

It may not be long before she makes a run at the all-time blocks record. Margo Dydek, the No. 1 overall pick in 1998, holds the league record with 877 career blocks. If Griner's current rate keeps up, the Mercury star could pass Dydek in the next four to five seasons. As of now, she's eighth on the all-time blocks list.

Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi strengthened her case as perhaps the greatest player in WNBA history Sunday by becoming the league's all-time leading scorer during her team's game against the Los Angeles Sparks.

The WNBA shared her record-setting points that surpassed Tina Thompson's previous mark of 7,488:

Taurasi commented on the achievement after the game:

Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, Swin Cash and LeBron James were among those to comment on Taurasi's achievement:

Prior to Sunday's accomplishment, Taurasi had already made WNBA history earlier this month. She led the Mercury to a 99-91 victory against the Chicago Sky with 37 points and eight three-pointers, which moved her into second place on the all-time scoring list and gave her the record for most triples in a career. According to the Associated Press (h/t USA Today), the effort moved Taurasi past Katie Smith, who held the previous record of 906 three-pointers.

Thompson, the WNBA's previous all-time leading scorer, played for the Houston Comets, Los Angeles Sparks and Seattle Storm from 1997 through 2013 and earned spots on eight different All-WNBA teams. Tamika Catchings, who played for the Indiana Fever throughout her entire 15-season career, is the only other player in WNBA history aside from Taurasi and Thompson to surpass the 7,000-point mark.

Taurasi has never played for a WNBA team other than the Mercury even though she sat out the 2015 season to rest for her Russian club team. She was the 2003-04 Rookie of the Year and 2008-09 league MVP, and she has been an 11-time member of a first or second All-WNBA Team. She is also a three-time WNBA champion.

Beyond all of that, she's now the greatest scorer in league history.

The Phoenix Mercury and star guard Diana Taurasi agreed to a multiyear contract extension Tuesday, the team announced.

"As long as Diana Taurasi wants to play in the WNBA, we want her in a Mercury uniform," Phoenix general manager Jim Pitman noted. "As we've said before, she is the heart of our franchise, the first face on our Mount Rushmore, the best winner and competitor in the women's game. The trajectory of our organization changed the day we drafted her 13 years ago, and we are excited she will be here into the future."

Taurasi, 34, is one of the most decorated players in league history. She's won three titles (2007, 2009, 2014) with the Mercury and has earned WNBA Finals MVP twice (2009, 2014) and league MVP once (2009). A seven-time All-Star, she's also won four Olympic gold medals, ranks third on the WNBA's all-time scoring list and holds five scoring titles.

The extension will likely ensure she retires with the Mercury.

Taurasi has had an eventful week. She married former teammate Penny Taylor, now the Mercury's director of player development, on Saturday before Phoenix lost its season opener to the Dallas Wings the next day.

"Just an amazing day, one of the happiest days we've ever had," Taurasi told Jeff Metcalfe of AZCentral.com. "It would have been nice to follow it up with a win, but we're just really happy. It was one of the times where all our families were together, all the people we love and care for in the city that we met and evolved as teammates and wives now. It's been pretty cool."

Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi married former teammate and current Mercury director of player development Penny Taylor a day before Sunday's season-opening loss to the Dallas Wings

"Just an amazing day, one of the happiest days we've ever had," Taurasi said, per Jeff Metcalfe of the Arizona Republic. "It would have been nice to follow it up with a win, but we're just really happy. It was one of the times where all our families were together, all the people we love and care for in the city that we met and evolved as teammates and wives now. It's been pretty cool."

Taurasi, 34, had never been previously married. Taylor, 36, was married for three years to Brazilian beach volleyball player Rodrigo Gil before divorcing.

Taurasi and Taylor have largely kept their relationship out of the public spotlight.

"That was our special thing," Taurasi said. "We never kept it secret, we just didn't want that to be an issue ever. We knew when we walked through those doors, it was time to put work in and be professional."

Taylor, an accomplished player in her own right, won two Olympic silver medals as part of Australia's national team. She retired as a player after the 2016 season to transition to a front office career.

Taurasi is a seven-time WNBA All-Star, four-time Olympic gold medalist and three-time WNBA champion.
