Gold Cup 2019: Monday Odds, TV Schedule, Live Stream and Predictions

The last round of fixtures in Group B takes place in the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup on Monday, with Costa Rica and Haiti already guaranteed a place in the knockout stages.

The two teams meet at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, with top spot in the group up for grabs.

Costa Rica go into the game first, courtesy of a better goal difference, but Haiti will leapfrog them with victory.

The second fixture in the group sees Bermuda take on Nicaragua. Neither team has managed to win a game at the tournament and have already been eliminated but will be aiming to go out on a high.

Monday Preview

Bermuda are making their first appearance at the Gold Cup, and although they are still searching for a first victory they have exceeded expectations with their performances so far.

The team have not been outclassed in their opening two matches and were only narrowly beaten 2-1 by both Haiti and Costa Rica.

Coach Kyle Lightbourne is now aiming for a first-ever Gold Cup victory in their final fixture against Nicaragua, per Goal's Jon Arnold.

"We obviously would like to finish the tournament with some sort of result," he said. "Nicaragua is a decent team. On their day, they could be very dangerous. We have to build for the Nations League because we're in a tough group with Mexico and Panama."

The team's most high-profile player is Burnley forward Nahki Wells, and he has said his team can be proud of their efforts so far:

Nicaragua, however, were thrashed 4-0 by Costa Rica in their opener and followed that up with a 2-0 loss to Haiti.

Their campaign has also been disrupted after they sent Marlon Lopez, Carlos Montenegro and Carlos Chavarria home from the tournament for hiring escorts after their opening loss, per Marca.

The results so far mean there is only pride to play for on Monday, and Bermuda look to be a side on the up who can claim a historic first Gold Cup win.

The second fixture should provide plenty of interest as the top two teams in the group fight for top spot.

Costa Rica only need a point to go through as group winners and look to have more quality with players such as Bryan Oviedo and Elias Aguilar in the squad (U.S. only):

Yet Haiti can look to New York Red Bulls winger Derrick Etienne to supply the attacking inspiration against Costa Rica.

Arnold feels there is more to come from Haiti at the Gold Cup:

Costa Rica have looked the best team in the group so far, and they should have just enough to take victory on Monday as they continue their search for a first Gold Cup title.

Raul Jimenez, Mexico Beat Martinique to Win Group A in 2019 Gold Cup

Mexico took care of business in its final match of group play at the 2019 Gold Cup with a 3-2 victory over Martinique at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Sunday.

El Tri entered the match unbeaten in pool play, having already recorded a 7-0 victory over Cuba and a 3-1 victory over Canada. With Canada's 7-0 defeat of Cuba earlier in the day, Mexico entered its match against Martinique with the ability to clinch Group A with either a win or a draw.

Below is a look at the latest Gold Cup action.

     

Group A Standings

Mexico 3-0-0, 9 pts, +10 goal differential

Canada 2-0-1, 6 pts, +9 goal differential

Martinique 1-0-2, 3 pts, -2 goal differential

Cuba 0-0-3, 0 pts, -17 goal differential

     

Mexico got the points it needed to win Group A, but Martinique proved to be a formidable foe as it provided a tough test.

El Tri controlled play for much of the night, though it wasn't until the 29th minute that they were able to get on the board. Uriel Antuna opened the scoring by putting a shot through a defender's legs and sneaking it past Martinique keeper Loic Chauvet on the near post:

It marked Antuna's fourth goal of the tournament. He previously notched a hat trick in his team's Gold Cup opener against Cuba on June 15 after being named to the roster as an injury replacement the day before the team opened tournament play.

Raul Jimenez nearly pushed the lead to two in the 44th minute, but Chauvet came up with a spectacular save to keep it a one-goal game heading into the break.

That save would loom large, as Martinique refused to go away quietly. Kevin Parsemain evened the score for Martinique with a sensational free kick from just beyond the box in the 56th minute:

But it would not remain tied for long.

After being denied earlier, Jimenez put El Tri back on top in the 61st minute by beating Chauvet with a tap-in:

Fernando Navarro would provide Mexico with some cushion room with a goal in the 72nd:

That goal proved important, as Martinique would get one back late:

Ultimately, El Tri managed to hold on for the victory. With that, their quest for a record eighth Gold Cup title remains alive as they are on to the knockout stage.

Mexico have won three of the last five tournaments, though their last crown came back in 2015. They were knocked out in the semifinals back in 2017.

     

What's Next?

Mexico advances to the quarterfinals, where they will face the runner-up of Group B (either Costa Rica or Haiti, who will play on Monday to decide Group B). Martinique has been eliminated from the tournament.

Group A of the 2019 Gold Cup draws to a close Sunday as Canada and Mexico look to secure berths in the knockout stage.

Mexico won its first two matches to move into first place prior to the final round of group fixtures, while Canada was second by virtue of goal difference ahead of Martinique. They'll be expected to maintain those positions based on their opponents Sunday.

Canada opened against Cuba, with Mexico taking on Martinique.

Canada 7, Cuba 0

Jonathan David and Lucas Cavallini each had a hat trick as Canada rolled over Cuba 7-0.

Cuba had hardly any time to get settled before David put the Canadians ahead in the third minute. Junior Hoilett got in behind Cuba's defense and had plenty of time and space to find David running through the 18-yard box.

David's third goal came just as easily. He initiated the move by forcing a Cuban turnover. Hoilett took possession and waited until David was in position for what was effectively a tap-in.

David also scored in the 71st minute. Cavallini doubled Canada's lead in the 21st minute before adding goals in the 43rd minute and the first minute of first-half injury time. Along with his two assists, Hoilett got in on the scoring barrage, beating Cuban goalkeeper Sandy Sanchez in the 50th minute.

While the score was clearly one-sided, it could've been even worse for Cuba. Canada finished with 25 total shots and 14 shots on target.

TSN's Kelcey Brade noted Sunday's onslaught was a historic occasion for Canada:

Convincing wins over Cuba and Martinique don't reveal too much about Canada, which hasn't advanced past the Gold Cup quarterfinals since 2007. Coach John Herdman will hope his players saved some goals for the next round, especially if a matchup against Costa Rica instead of Haiti lies ahead.

         

Mexico 3, Martinique 2

Mexico secured the top spot in Group A with a 3-2 win over Martinique.

El Tri looked to be in the clear when Fernando Navarro scored in the 72nd minute to make it a 3-1 game.

However, Martinique got a goal back as Jordy Delem headed in a cross from Daniel Herelle in the 84th minute.

The idea that Martinique would make life difficult for Mexico wasn't surprising. The clear underdog, Mario Bocaly's side was always going to play defensively and force El Tri to navigate through a compact half of the pitch.

Although Mexico didn't allow another shot over the remainder of the game after Delem's goal and walked away with the three points, surrendering two goals to Martinique isn't what fans will have expected to see from the team.

"The right way of reading the game is that the performance was good, but we showed deficiencies and distractions," coach Tata Martino said of the victory, per ESPN FC's Tom Marshall.

Mexico doesn't return to action until Saturday, so Martino has some time to look at the entire group stage and evaluate what worked and what didn't. Mexico is likely to face Haiti as well, assuming Costa Rica wins Monday.

El Tri should have a clear path to the semifinal.

The last round of group-stage fixtures gets under way at the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup on Sunday, when Mexico and Canada will hope to secure their places in the tournament's quarter-finals.

Mexico lead Group A by three points, and they face Martinique at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, seeking to make it three wins from three.

Canada sit second and appear nailed on to clinch the second qualifying berth. They beat Martinique 4-0 in their opening match and are guaranteed to finish among the top two as long as they beat Cuba on Sunday.

It seems likely that the teams in Group A will end the first stage of the competition in their current order, with Mexico in a prime position to finish the round with a perfect record.

El Tri have scored 10 goals and conceded just one in their two group games, and captain Andres Guardado came up with arguably the pick of the bunch during Wednesday's 3-0 win over Canada, with FreeSports sharing footage:

Martinique beat Cuba 3-0 on Matchday 2 to at least get some points on the board, but given the seven-time Gold Cup winners are next up, it's probable they have reached the limit of their tally.

This is Les Matinino's sixth time competing at the Gold Cup, and the only time they managed to make it out of the group stage was in 2002.

There was a theme of captains scoring on Matchday 2 in Group A, and Martinque's Stephane Abaul will be looking to add to his strike in the 3-0 win over Cuba. Footage shared by Fox Soccer (U.S. only):

Cuba remain without any points in Group A and have the slimmest hopes of advancing to the next stage, like they managed in 2015 and 2017.

The team was also rocked by the news that captain Yasmani Lopez defected following their loss to Mexico, per ESPN FC's Tom Marshall:

The defender's absence contributed to the defeat to Martinique, and it seems improbable that they will turn around their form enough to beat John Herdman's men.

Canada have multiple scoring threats, including Cardiff City winger Junior Hoilett and Gent attacker Jonathan David, who was on the scoresheet in their 4-0 hammering of Martinique on Matchday 1 (footage U.S. only):

Cuba have a goal difference of minus-10—eight worse than any other team's tally in Group A—and would need to overturn that disadvantage against Canada in order to stand a chance of progressing.

Gyasi Zardes, USA Men's Team Dominate Trinidad and Tobago 6-0 in 2019 Gold Cup

The United States men's national team was on edge against Trinidad and Tobago until Aaron Long headed home a cross from Christian Pulisic in the 41st minute on Saturday at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland.

It proved to be the spark plug, as the U.S. finally found an offensive rhythm in the second half and defeated Trinidad and Tobago 6-0 to advance to the knockout stage of the 2019 Gold Cup and avenge its 2017 loss that kept the team out of the 2018 World Cup.

Long's first goal—he notched a brace in the 90th minute—buried an otherwise underwhelming performance from the American side in the first half.

The header came up big for the U.S. again in the 66th minute when Nick Lima headed a cross toward Gyasi Zardes, who tapped it home. Zardes completed the brace in the 69th minute after Pulisic set him up at the top of the box.

And then Pulisic added a goal of his own to his two assists in the 73rd minute.

The U.S. did well to generate more chances in the second half. One of the Americans' best looks came when Weston McKennie threaded a perfectly timed through ball to Paul Arriola, whose shot landed just wide.

While that particular play was fruitless in this game, it illustrates the type of passing attack the U.S. needs to sustain throughout a full 90 minutes if it wants to have a chance against stronger competition in the knockout stages.

More specifically, Pulisic's increased involvement and production in this game compared to the opener against Guyana is paramount for the U.S. moving forward:

Another encouraging development in the second half for Gregg Berhalter's squad was Jordan Morris, who clocked his first Gold Cup minutes when he replaced Tyler Boyd in the 61st minute. Morris contributed two assists and provided reliable depth for an injury-riddled side.

As a whole, the U.S. looked much crisper in the attack than it did against Guyana. The final game of group play against Panama, which defeated Trinidad 2-0 in its opener and Guyana 4-2 earlier Saturday, should be the next step in building a cohesive game from start to finish ahead of the quarterfinals and beyond.

     

What's Next?

The U.S. will finish Group D play against Panama, while Trinidad and Tobago will wrap up against Guyana. Both matches are set for Wednesday at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas.

The 2019 Gold Cup continued on Saturday, with Group D in the spotlight in Cleveland, Ohio.

Both Panama and the United States had the opportunity to keep their spotless records in tact, while Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago were given a chance to notch their first points of group play.

Panama 4, Guyana 2

A pair of first-half goals powered Panama to a 4-2 victory over Guyana on Saturday.

Panama's Abdiel Arroyo opened the scoring early in the first half, notching a goal in the 16th minute. While that gave Panama an early lead, Guyana managed to come up with an equalizer later in the half.

Neil Danns evened the score up in the 33rd minute with a historic goal for Guyana from the penalty spot:

It would not remain a tied game for long, though. Panama moved back out in front just before halftime, thanks to an own goal:

A pivotal moment occurred just moments after the break. While it appeared Guyana keeper Akel Clarke kept his team in the game by denying Erick Davis on a penalty kick, Clarke was called for encroachment and shown a yellow card. Davis took advantage of his second opportunity and extended the lead to two:

Gabriel Torres put the finishing touches on the victory with a header in the 86th minute:

Danns added a second goal in stoppage time, but it was too little, too late for Guyana.

Panama controlled play from several standpoints, owning the edge in possession (54-46), shots (19-5) and shots on goal (8-3). By doing so, it earned a crucial three points as it prepares for the final match of group play.

USA 6, Trinidad and Tobago 0

Knowing they needed a win to keep pace with Panama, the United States took care of business against Trinidad and Tobago with a 6-0 victory.

Team USA had a number of opportunities in the first half, but it wasn't until the 41st minute that it was able to break through. A great pass by Christian Pulisic set Aaron Long up in front of the net, and Long's header was able to just get past keeper Marvin Phillip:

Both teams had their scoring chances early in the second half. U.S. keeper Zack Steffen came up with a big diving save in the 63rd minute to keep Trinidad and Tobago off the board.

That set the table for Gyasi Zardes and the offense to put the game out of reach:

The Columbus Crew star had a trio of opportunities to finish off the hat trick in the 72nd minute, but the combination of the post and Phillip denied him a third goal. Zardes was subbed off in the 74th minute.

Phillip couldn't keep hold off the U.S. pressure, though, and Pulisic recorded his first goal of the tournament in the 73rd minute:

Midfielder Paul Arriola also got in on the fun:

That four-goal outburst over the course of 12 minutes turned this match from a fight to the finish into a blowout. And a 90th-minute goal by Long—his second of the game—put an exclamation point on the five-goal second half.

Of course, this was the first matchup between the two squads since a 2-1 Trinidad and Tobago victory in October 2017 that eliminated the U.S. from 2018 World Cup qualifying. While it would be understandable for the players to have revenge on their minds, Team USA was focused on the task at hand.

Arriola said as much leading up to the game, per ESPN soccer correspondent Jeff Carlisle:

"I wouldn't say there is too much of what has happened before in our minds. I think internally and for us as a group, the more important thing is we're playing [them] here in 2019 in the second game of the Gold Cup. A win for us could put us through [into the knockout rounds]. I wouldn't say there's too much regarding the revenge aspect."

Mission accomplished. Team USA got the three points it needed to move on to the knockout stage.

What's Next

All four teams will be back in action on Wednesday at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City. Guyana will take on Trinidad and Tobago at 6:30 p.m. ET, while Panama and the U.S. will battle in a match that will decide the group at 9 p.m. ET.

Mexico vs. Martinique: Odds, Live Stream, TV Schedule for 2019 Gold Cup

Mexico will face Martinique in their final group-stage match of the 2019 Gold Cup on Sunday, with El Tri aiming to lock up the top spot in Group A.

The CONCACAF giants have won their first two matches by a combined score of 10-1 and are expected to cruise to another easy win. Caesars has installed them as overwhelming 1-35 favourites, while Martinique carry odds of 30-1. A draw comes in at 14-1.

Kick-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET, and fans can tune into the contest via Fox Sports 1.

Mexico haven't faced much resistance during this year's Gold Cup, with their biggest headache perhaps the lengthy delay they suffered on their way to Charlotte, North Carolina:

El Tri highlighted their dominance in the 3-1 win over Canada in their previous match. The Canadians are regarded as the other strong side in Group A and demolished Martinique in their opening match, so Les Matinino will know they are in for a tough challenge on Sunday.

Martinique lack the high-end talent of the bigger nations in the tournament, and their best-ever result in the Gold Cup was a quarter-final appearance in 2002. Most of the squad plays in the domestic league, while Mexico's squad has several international stars.

The 22-year-old was brilliant in the contest, although Cuba didn't make things difficult for El Tri:

While he and his attacking team-mates might relish another opportunity to pad their stats, Mexico are likely to rest a few key starters with an eye on the knockout stages. Raul Jimenez and Andres Guardado, in particular, are expected to be vital for those matches. There's no need to risk them against Martinique, with a ticket for the quarter-finals already secured.

Saturday's 2019 Gold Cup action will see the four teams in Group D play their second matches, with the United States facing Trinidad and Tobago after the contest between Guyana and Panama.

The co-hosts and Panama won their first games and are expected to advance from the group. The teams are set to meet on Wednesday to close out the group stage.

The USMNT was expected to beat Guyana in their first Gold Cup match, and while the debutants didn't make things easy on the Stars and Stripes in the opening stages, they worked their way to a relatively simple 4-0 win:

The Soca Warriors should provide a step up in competition, as they have far more experience at this level and a deeper squad.

Trinidad and Tobago have been in dreadful form of late, though, losing five of their past six matches stretching back to 2018, but they flashed their talents in the loss to Panama:

Goalkeeper Marvin Phillip was a standout, and he had to be because his defenders let him down at times against Panama. He will have to be at his best again on Saturday, when the Stars and Stripes will bring even more individual talent to the table.

A lack of creativity has been an issue under manager Gregg Berhalter, but between Christian Pulisic, Tyler Boyd and Paul Arriola, the USMNT have enough players who can force the action and punish the Soca Warriors for every defensive lapse.

The key will be to score early, as Trinidad and Tobago have tons of athleticism to exploit on the counter-attack, and they will likely sit back and wait for the openings to arrive.

In Group D's other match, Panama are expected to cruise past Guyana, who showed plenty of heart against the U.S. but don't have the individual talent to compete with CONCACAF's top sides.

Gabriel Torres is Panama's ace striker, while Armando Cooper and Edgar Barcenas took care of the scoring against the Soca Warriors.

The four teams of Group C were in action Friday night at the 2019 Gold Cup.

Jamaica and El Salvador started things off at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston. Both teams entered Friday's contest tied atop the group with three points apiece, which made their head-to-head all the more important. 

Honduras and Curacao followed with a surprising result that could alter which teams make it out of Group C and into the quarterfinals.

Below is an overview of the Gold Cup following Friday's action.

Jamaica 0, El Salvador 0

Jamaica and El Salvador played a conservative match—to say the least.

While Jamaica posed several threats in the attacking third throughout the first half, each of them was ultimately diverted by El Salvador. 

In fact, neither team managed a shot on goal until the 76th minute. 

Once Jamaica made Henry Hernandez make his first save, Junior Flemmings struck from inside the box but aimed it directly at Hernandez. It was by far Jamaica's best chance of the evening.

El Salvador was clearly committed to defending but had a rare chance late when Marvin Monterrosa won a free kick just outside the box. Unfortunately for El Salvador, Nelson Bonilla's shot was easily handled at the near post by Jamaican goalkeeper Andre Blake. It was El Salvador's only shot on goal.

Jamaica's final game of the group stage will be against Curacao, and El Salvador's will be against Honduras. Both matches are set for Tuesday at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles.

Curacao 1, Honduras 0

Honduras put the pressure on early and often, but Curacao goalkeeper Eloy Room withstood it. 

Room's performance allowed Curacao to take an improbable 1-0 lead in the 40th minute. Leandro Bacuna tucked Gevaro Nepomuceno's cross just beyond Honduras goalkeeper Luis Lopez in the bottom right corner. Bacuna's score was Curacao's first Gold Cup goal in five matches played.

After 22 total shots and eight shots on goal, the Hondurans thought they had finally found their equalizer in the 58th minute. However, officials ultimately ruled it offside.

Honduras channeled the ensuing frustration into the attack, creating several more opportunities. Room answered every time. Honduras was unable to bury any of their 35 total shots, and Room finished the match with 13 saves.

By comparison, Curacao needed only seven total shots to win its first Gold Cup game. 

Heading into their final game of the group stage against Jamaica, Curacao has surprised everybody by being in position to win the group. Honduras, already eliminated, will play El Salvador in their final game of the tournament. Both matches will be Tuesday at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles.

The 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup is well underway, and the teams in Group C play their second round of matches in Texas on Friday.

El Salvador and Jamaica are both sitting on three points after the opening fixtures and come up against each other at the BBVA Compass Stadium, Houston.

Meanwhile, Honduras and Curacao are playing catch-up and will both be looking to get off the mark.

The opening Group C fixtures were tight. El Salvador beat Curacao 1-0 thanks to Nelson Bonilla's strike in first-half stoppage time.

The second fixture was a more high-scoring affair as Jamaica won 3-2 against Honduras, with Dever Orgill netting a first-half double for the Reggae Boyz.

Jamaica were pegged back soon after the break when Anthony Lozano netted, but they quickly got a third through Damion Lowe before Rubilio Castillo scored a consolation goal in stoppage time.

Against El Salvador, Jamaica will look to make a fast start again and have a comfortable lead by the break.

Manager Theodore Whitmore noted after the win against Honduras that his side have work to do in defence:

That is sure to be a concern further down the line, especially if Jamaica make it to the knockout rounds.

However, they do have the quality to take the game to El Salvador.

At No. 54 in the world rankings, they are only 15 places ahead of La Selecta, but Jamaica should go into the game confident they can pick up another victory that would potentially put them into the knockout rounds.

For Honduras and Curacao, a draw would be of little value for either side in their bid to reach the knockout rounds, so it could be an entertaining game in Texas.

Honduras are the favourites with the bookmakers, but they do not go into the clash in any kind of form having failed to win any of their last five fixtures.

They have conceded 14 goals in those five games, which should give Curacao confidence they can take advantage of their defence.

Curacao are the lower ranked of the two sides—No. 79 compared to Honduras' No. 61—but they arguably will be under less pressure and have the ability to cause some problems on Friday.
