The 2022-23 college baseball season all comes down to this.

The Men's College World Series kicked off in Omaha Friday with eight teams fighting for a spot in the best-of-three finals. Here's a peek at how the first games of the tournament are shaking out.

Find the full tournament bracket at NCAA.com.

Oral Roberts 6, TCU 5

Oral Roberts, an evangelical school in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is the lowest-seeded team to reach the College World Series since 2012.

As if that didn't make them enough of an underdog, ORU also headed into the ninth inning Friday down by three runs.

That still wasn't enough to stop the Golden Eagles.

Oral Roberts swarmed TCU pitcher Luke Savage in the ninth inning to put multiple runners on base. That's when Blaze Brothers smashed a three-RBI go-ahead homer over the left-field fence to claim a 6-5 comeback win.

"It was like slow motion," Brothers said after the game, per Eric Olson of the Associated Press. "Right when I felt it off the bat it felt pretty good, and I saw the left fielder kind of turn around, and I was, like, 'Oh, that ball's out. Let's go.' I just wanted to get around the bases to celebrate with the boys."

Both teams were held off the scoreboard for the beginning of the game as ORU's Jakob Hall and TCU's Kole Klecker sent batters through four scoreless frames.

Cole Fontenelle got TCU on the board first with a home run, his third in as many games, in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Oral Roberts grabbed the lead in the top of the sixth with a two-RBI homer from Mac McCroskey, but Fontenelle tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single.

ORU pitchers then ran into trouble at the bottom of the eighth, when TCU loaded the bases on a single and two walks. Fontenelle earned another walk to send home his third RBI of the game, and the Horned Frogs sent the next two more runners home to gain a 5-2 lead before Oral Roberts could close out the inning.

In the final frame, the Golden Eagles completed their last-minute comeback with Brothers' home run.

Cade Denton, who closed out the bottom of the ninth with one walk, one single, and two swinging strikeouts, earned the win for Oral Roberts. Savage recorded the loss for TCU.

The two teams will see action again Sunday when TCU takes on the loser of the Virginia v. Florida matchup in an elimination game. Oral Roberts will take on the winner.

Florida 6, Virginia 5

Virginia held a two-run lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning. It wasn't enough.

Ty Evans and Wyatt Langford hit solo home runs to tie the game for Florida before Luke Heyman earned an RBI flyout to walk off with a 6-5 comeback win.

Florida scored first in the second frame after two hits, a fielder's choice, and a walk sent B.T. Riopelle home.

Gators starting pitcher Brandon Sproat then kept the game scoreless all the way until a busy seventh frame.

Ethan Anderson walked to start things out for Virginia in the seventh inning before hits from Casey Saucke, Henry Godbout, Griff O'Ferrall, and Ethan O'Donnell helped UVA gain a 4-1 lead.

O'Donnell was caught stealing to end the inning, a call which was upheld despite a challenge from the Cavaliers.

The Gators got runners on base with a hit and multiple walks in the bottom of the frame, forcing Virginia to cycle through three pitchers, but UVA held Florida to one run on a groundout to keep the score to 4-2.

Riopelle hit a home run in the eighth, putting Florida one run away from tying the game. Freshman Harrison Didawick answered in the top of the ninth with a one-out RBI triple to regain the Cavaliers' two-run lead.

That two-run cushion lasted for just minutes before Evans and Langford tied the game at5-5.

The stunned Cavaliers floundered as the Gators loaded the bases on a single, walk, and a hit-by-pitch. With two outs still left on the board, Heyman ended the game.

Jake Berry recorded the loss on the mound for UVA, while Neely, who closed out the game for the Gators, claimed the win.

Florida will now take on Oral Roberts on Sunday, while Virginia faces an elimination battle against TCU.

The Stanford Cardinal advanced to the Men's College World Series in one of the most bizarre ways you could ever make up.

Stanford's bench thought the super regional series against the Texas Longhorns was won on a drive to left field from Alberto Rios.

Rios' batted ball hit off the white portion of the wall in left field, and it resulted in a double for the left fielder.

Two batters later, Drew Bowser sent a routine fly ball to center field, but the ball fell into outfield grass after the Texas players could not locate it in the twilight.

Bowser's game-winning RBI single sent Stanford to Omaha, Nebraska for the event that begins on Friday.

The Tennessee Volunteers rounded out the eight-team field in Omaha with a win over the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.

Tennessee, who failed to reach Omaha as the No. 1 overall seed a year ago, is one of three SEC teams in the Men's College World Series field along with the LSU Tigers and Florida Gators. The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles, TCU Horned Frogs, Virginia Cavaliers and Wake Forest Demon Deacons round out the MCWS field.

Monday Super Regional Scores

Stanford 7, Texas 6

Tennessee 5, Southern Miss 0

Stanford Wins in Bizarre Fashion Over Texas

Stanford booked its ticket to Omaha in the strangest ending you will see to a baseball game this season.

The Cardinal appeared to be headed to extra innings at home with Texas, but the ball off Bowser's bat fell in between two Texas outfielders.

The walk-off hit capped a bizarre sequence of events that began when the Cardinal bench thought Rios' double was out of the park.

The game-winning run was the first one scored by the Cardinal since the fourth inning.

Texas scored its runs in bunches with three coming in the third inning and another three coming in the eighth frame.

The Longhorns appeared to be in a great position to send the contest to extra innings until the ball dropped in center field.

Stanford's win completed a rally against Texas. The Longhorns won the opening contest of the best-of-three series. Stanford earned victories on Sunday and Monday to land in Omaha.

Tennessee Wins on Road To Advance to Omaha

Tennessee blanked Southern Miss to book its trip to Omaha.

The Volunteers used a three-run home run from Zane Denton in the fifth inning to break open the contest in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

The Vols received six strong innings out of starting pitcher Drew Beam.

Beam held Southern Miss scoreless on seven hits through six frames. The Vols bullpen preserved the victory with three strong innings of work.

Tennessee's pitching staff held Southern Miss to four runs over the last two games to get to Omaha.

Southern Miss opened the best-of-three series with 5-3 win, but that was last time the Golden Eagles had control of the matchup.

Tennessee set up an all-SEC battle in the first round of the Men's College World Series against LSU, who could throw potential No. 1 overall pick Paul Skenes in the contest.

Stanford's Quinn Mathews Throws 156-Pitch, 16-K Complete Game vs. Texas

Stanford ace Quinn Mathews was living for the moment with his team facing a must-win situation Sunday.

The left-hander threw a complete game in the Cardinal's 8-3 victory over Texas in the NCAA super regionals. He struck out 16 batters on 156 pitches.

Mathews said after the win he had no intention of walking off the mound and handing things over to the bullpen.

Especially if Stanford advances to the College World Series, the senior will have written himself into program lore.

For neutral observers, however, his workload exemplified a persistent problem with the college game: Players and coaches are focused largely on winning and less concerned about the potential dangers of overly taxing a young, developing arm.

https://twitter.com/keithlaw/status/1668111276025757696

Per D1Baseball.com, Mathews has logged more innings (120) than any other Division I pitcher this season, though he sounds content to balance the long-term risk with the short-term benefits.

It's entirely possible Mathews moves on to the pros and doesn't encounter any major elbow trouble.

But there are countless examples of promising hurlers who saw their prime cut short due to injuries that stemmed from being pushed to the brink in college or early into their MLB career.

Some additional tickets to Omaha, Nebraska were punched on the third day of the NCAA Division I Baseball Super Regionals, but Monday baseball is also on the table.

The day featured action from Baton Rouge, Charlottesville, Eugene, Hattiesburg, Stanford and Winston-Salem, and runs were not hard to come by. The opening four games featured 61 total runs, including some towering home runs and well-executed small ball.

Here's how the third day of this weekend's best-of-three Super Regionals turned out.

Edgington's Complete Game sends Cavaliers to Omaha

With a winner-take-all super regional game facing the Virginia Cavaliers, head coach Brian Connors gave the start to Brian Edgington.

The graduate student, on his third different collegiate team, delivered a clutch complete game performance, allowing two earned runs and striking out 11 Blue Devils in a 12-2 Virginia victory.

A five-run second inning and a four-run sixth inning did most of the damage. Kyle Teel led the offense with four RBI's.

The Cavaliers are staring at a showdown with Florida in Omaha.

Demon Deacons Dominate, Advance to Omaha

Wake Forest is heading to the College World Series for the first time since 1955, and they achieved this by putting on a show.

The Demon Deacons put up 22 runs and cruised to a 22-5 victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide, further establishing their credentials as the top seed in the tournament.

Just one day after narrowly defeating Alabama to take Game 1, Wake Forest scored in six of their nine innings, including a three-run first inning, five runs in the third and six runs in the eighth.

Brock Wilken, who is rated among the top eligible players for the 2023 MLB draft, smashed three home runs, the last of which made him the ACC home run king.

Danny Corona hit two of his own four-baggers and had a team high six RBI's. Six Demon Deacons in total hit home runs.

Josh Hartle earned the victory, tossing six innings while allowing four earned runs and one walk, all while striking out 11 Alabama batters.

Tennessee and Southern Miss Split Doubleheader

Game 1 of the Hattiesburg Super Regional took 22 hours to complete.

Saturday's contest was halted in the fourth inning with Southern Miss leading 4-0 over Tennessee. When the teams resumed at noon on Sunday, a lot of baseball awaited them.

The Golden Eagles held on to win 5-3 in the opening game, and a 3 p.m. start for Game 2 put them in a position to reach Omaha for the first time since 2009. Instead, an early 4-0 lead evaporated at the hands of the Volunteers, and an 8-4 victory for Tennessee set up a winner-take-all Game 3 for Monday.

Each team used five pitchers across the two games, but it's safe to say the Volunteers will have fresher arms. Tennessee rode starting pitcher Chase Dollander for eight innings and 111 pitches in Game 2, saving the bullpen for the decisive third game.

Oral Roberts Topples Oregon in Rubber Match

After the first two games of the series both were decided by just one run, Oral Roberts and Oregon had an offensive slugfest in the deciding Game 3 on Sunday that saw the Golden Eagles emerge with an 11-6 victory to advance to the College World Series for the first time since 1978.

First baseman Jake McMurray spearheaded the offensive display from the leadoff spot, going 4-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored. Shortstop Mac McCroskey went 1-for-5 but finished with a team-high 3 RBI.

The Golden Eagles are just the third four-seed to advance to Omaha, joining Stony Brook and Fresno State.

LSU Cruises Past Kentucky for 19th Trip to CWS

Things looked shaky for LSU when Kentucky outfielder Jackson Gray led off the game with a solo home run, but the Tigers offense quickly got in gear as they earned an 8-3 win to advance to Omaha for the first time since 2017.

LSU first baseman Cade Beloso broke the game open with a three-run home run in the third inning, and the Tigers never looked back.

The Wildcats cut the deficit to two, but Riley Cooper and Gavin Guidry pitched six shutout innings in relief to secure the victory.

LSU will be seeking its seventh NCAA championship in program history. The Tigers last won the title in 2009.

Stanford Stays Alive, Forces Game 3

Drew Bowser went yard and Quinn Matthews threw a complete game to lead Stanford to an 8-3 win over Texas and force a deciding Game 3.

The Cardinal scorched 15 hits as their lineup lit up Texas starter Lebarron Johnson Jr., who gave up seven hits and walked four in his 4.1 innings of work. A three-run fifth inning proved critical for Stanford, unknotting the game from a 2-2 deadlock and providing Matthews the type of cushion he needed to breeze through the Texas lineup.

The Cardinal added three more runs in the top of the ninth to provide Matthews all the breathing room he needed to finish things off.

Both teams will go into Monday's winner-take-all Game 3 hopeful they're able to reach a third straight College World Series. Stanford has not won a national title since 1988, while Texas last hoisted the trophy in 2005.

Cavaliers force third game in Charlottesville

With their backs against the wall, the Virginia Cavaliers were not prepared to bow out easy.

Following a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Duke the night before, Virginia was ready to go from the second pitch. Griff O'Ferrall launched his first home run of the season to set the tone.

A balanced offensive attack that saw the Cavaliers score in six of their nine at-bats led the team to the 14-4 victory, although the true dagger shot came in the fifth inning when Ethan Anderson hit a 410-foot three-run blast.

The Cavaliers also saw a strong pitching performance from Connelly Early, as the junior transfer from Army notched his 12th victory of the season.

Top-ranked Demon Deacons inch closer to Omaha

It was never comfortable, but Wake Forest will have two opportunities to clinch its first trip to the College World Series since 1955.

The game saw six home runs between the two teams, but Wake Forest had just a little bit more as they came away with the 5-4 victory over No. 16 Alabama.

The Demon Deacons got off to a three-run lead after two innings, but after four, it was three-all. Alabama nearly got out of the fifth with no additional runs against, but a check-swing gave Danny Corona another chance and he delivered.

An RBI-single the next inning from Adam Cecere extended the lead to 5-3, but Caden Rose's second home run of the day put the Crimson Tide within one in the eighth. Despite the pressure, southpaw Sean Sullivan held on to secure the victory for Wake Forest.

Gators eliminate Gamecocks to reach College World Series

Florida had a chance to reach Omaha for the first time since 2018, and starting pitcher Hurston Waldrep understood the assignment.

The righty tossed eight scoreless innings, allowing three hits and two walks with a sky-high 13 strikeouts and led the No. 2 Gators to a 4-0 victory over No. 15 South Carolina.

A two-run double from Colby Halter provided all the run support that Florida needed, but a third RBI for Halter and an RBI-single from Josh Rivera provided the extra cushion.

The Gators became the first team in 2023 to clinch a trip to Omaha and are 7-1 in the NCAA Tournament.

Late rally lifts Texas over Stanford

Stanford was sitting on a three-run lead entering the ninth inning, but Texas was ready to pounce.

The Longhorns loaded the bases and scored five runs to take a 7-5 lead and didn't look back, taking a 1-0 series lead. They five runs scored came from a combination of one hit, one error, a fielders choice and five free passes.

Before this point, the Cardinal had lead since the sixth inning and had not trailed at any point in the game. Stanford will now need to win two straight to advance to Omaha, while the Longhorns have two potential opportunities.

Nationally ranked Cavaliers upset in Charlottesville

No. 7 Virginia came within inches of opening the Super Regionals with a walk-off win Friday.

Instead, Duke's Tyler Albright snagged Jake Gelof's fly ball at the fence to seal Duke's 5-4 road victory.

No. 7 Virginia boasted a nine-game winning streak at home heading into Friday, so it felt like the game was the Cavaliers' to lose as they headed into the eighth with a one-run lead.

Instead, Duke surged ahead with a two-run inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, Virginia's Kyle Teel reached second on an infield single and a stolen base. Blue Devils pitcher Fran Oschell III struck out the following batter and held the next two to flyouts to keep the Cavaliers from tying the game.

Gelof, who leads Virginia with 22 home runs, was at the plate with two runners on base when Albright made his game-saving catch. Freshman pitcher James Tallon earned the save for Duke, while Virginia closer Jay Woolfolk (2-1) was dealt his first loss of the season.

Horned Frogs continue hot streak with commanding Game 1 victory

One month ago, it didn't look like TCU would qualify for the NCAA tournament.

The Horned Frogs have since won 18 of their last 20 games, including the Big 12 baseball championship and a 20-5 blowout of No. 3 Arkansas in the NCAA Regionals last Sunday.

Add to that list a 4-1 win over No. 14 Indiana State to begin the Super Regionals on Friday.

TCU opened the scoring with third-inning home runs from Austin Davis and Cole Fontenelle to put the Sycamores in a 3-0 hole.

Starting pitcher Kole Klecker kept Indiana State off the scoreboard for seven innings, holding the Sycamores to just three hits while striking out nine.

Keegan Watson got his team on the board with a home run in the bottom of the ninth, but Indiana State's first Super Regional game ended with a swinging strikeout.

Oregon snatches win from ORU with final hit

A busy night in Tulsa began when Oral Roberts' Blaze Brothers walked and stole second to open the top of the third by getting in scoring position.

After that, the Golden Eagles couldn't stop scoring.

Thanks to a three-run homer from Matt Hogan and a three-run single from Jake McMurray, Oral Roberts headed into the bottom of the third up by eight runs.

Oregon slowly clawed its way back over the next four innings.

Jacob Walsh and Bennett Thompson started out the comeback with back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the third, and Tanner Smith finished it off with an RBI single to the game at 8-8 in the bottom of the seventh.

After a scoreless eighth, it all came down to the final inning.

Josh Mollerus held Oral Roberts off the scoreboard before Oregon came up to bat.

A pair of walks got two runners on base for the Ducks and prompted a late pitcher swap for Oral Roberts. That's when Drew Cowley stepped up to the plate with two outs on the board and the game on his bat.

Cowley sent an RBI single to right field to secure the 9-8 victory for Oregon.

Mac McCroskey led Oral Roberts with three hits. Dalton Patten recorded the loss, while Mollerus closed out the win for Oregon.

Rain delay leads to late-night battle between SEC rivals

A ninth-inning push by South Carolina fell short as Florida won the first game of the Gainesville Super Regional.

Will McGillis sent his second home run of the game over the fence in the top of the ninth to get the Gamecocks within one, but Gators closer Brandon Neely held on to secure the 5-4 victory.

The 150-minute rain delay before the game did not appear to phase McGillis, who hit a 400-foot homer on the second pitch of the game.

The two teams traded runs back and forth, heading into the second locked in a 2-2 tie. In the top of the second, another RBI hit from McGillis put South Carolina ahead.

Tyler Shelnut tied the game for Florida with a homer in the bottom of the fifth.

A home run from BT Riopelle and an RBI single from Shelnut gave Florida a two-run lead in the bottom of the eighth, which McGillis cut to one with his last-minute homer.

Neely closed out the victory with two strikeouts in the final frame. Sproat recorded the win after striking out seven batters, while allowing nine hits and three runs, through six innings.

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons showcased why they are the No. 1 overall seed in the 2023 NCAA baseball tournament by scoring 48 runs over three games in the regional round.

Wake Forest can show off its bats again during super regional weekend against the Alabama Crimson Tide in one of three matchups between seeded teams.

The Demon Deacons and Crimson Tide are two of nine national seeds left in the bracket after the chaos of regional weekend.

At least two teams from outside the top 16 will make it to Omaha, Nebraska, and three others have the opportunity to pull off upsets.

The TCU Horned Frogs might be the most popular unseeded pick to win because their super regional against the Indiana State Sycamores was shifted to Fort Worth, Texas.

The updated bracket and schedule for the super regional weekend can be found here on NCAA.com.

Predictions

Wake Forest over Alabama

Wake Forest did not display any flaws during the Winston-Salem regional.

The Demon Deacons outscored the George Mason Patriots and Maryland Terrapins 48-7 over three games.

Wake's incredible offense will be tested more in the super regional by an Alabama team that only allowed 11 runs in three games at the Tuscaloosa regional.

But if Alabama has a weakness, it is playing against teams of Wake's caliber. The Crimson Tide are 11-13 against teams in the RPI 25, and they are 11-9 in true road games.

Alabama went 7-11 in conference play against the other national seeds in the SEC.

The Crimson Tide were swept by the LSU Tigers (No. 5 seed) and lost two of three games against the Arkansas Razorbacks (No. 3 seed) and Florida Gators (No. 2 seed).

The struggles against the top teams in the SEC could be an indication of what the Crimson Tide will do in Winston-Salem.

Wake Forest has not lost multiple contests of a three-game series all season, and that trend may not change on super regional weekend if Alabama continues to deal with issues against the nation's top teams.

TCU over Indiana State

TCU is the most dangerous unseeded team left in the NCAA tournament.

The Horned Frogs blasted their way through the Fayetteville regional by scoring 44 runs in three games.

The Big 12 side exploded for 20 runs against Arkansas in its second game of regional weekend, and then it finished off the host Razorbacks with a 12-4 win Monday.

TCU received the good fortune of hosting its super regional against Indiana State because of a scheduling conflict in Terre Haute, Indiana.

That should benefit a Horned Frogs team that is 22-11 inside its home ballpark.

Indiana State played well in its home regional, as it produced a 3-0 record, including two wins over the Iowa Hawkeyes, but hosting and traveling on super regional weekend could make the difference in booking a ticket to Omaha.

The Sycamores could play some solid baseball in Fort Worth, but it will be hard to stop the momentum that TCU gained from its three wins in Fayetteville.

Indiana State may need to outslug TCU to reach Omaha, and after what we saw TCU do in Arkansas, it is hard to imagine any team beating the Frogs' run total.

Other Predictions

Stanford over Texas

LSU over Kentucky

Southern Miss over Tennessee

Oregon over Oral Roberts

Virginia over Duke

Florida over South Carolina

The 2023 NCAA baseball tournament will head to the super regional round with nine national seeds left in the bracket.

The Arkansas Razorbacks and Coastal Carolina Chanticleers joined the list of top-16 seeds to lose in the regional round on Monday.

Both sides ran out of pitching depth as they both conceded 12 runs against the TCU Horned Frogs and Duke Blue Devils.

TCU and Duke were outdone by one run for Monday's highest run total. The LSU Tigers pounced on the Oregon State Beavers for 13 runs.

LSU set up an all-SEC super regional with the Kentucky Wildcats with its win. The Tigers and Wildcats are two of six SEC programs left in the dwindled-down field of 16.

The Florida Gators added to the SEC's super regional haul with its second win in two days over the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Florida was one of three teams to win twice in the regional final to advance to super regional weekend.

Seven different conferences will be represented in the super regional round, including the Missouri Valley, Summit League and Sun Belt.

The full super regional schedule will be revealed on Tuesday once all the sites are set for next weekend's action. The updated bracket can be found on NCAA.com.

Duke and TCU were the two true road teams to win during Monday's seven-game slate.

The Blue Devils rebounded from a loss to Coastal Carolina in the first game of the regional final with a 12-run outburst.

The offensive fireworks started with MJ Metz's second-inning solo home run.

Metz hit four home runs and won MVP of the Conway regional while playing on a torn ACL.

The Duke offense hit three home runs and its pitching staff held Coastal Carolina to one hit in the first seven innings.

Duke set up an all-ACC super regional battle with the Virginia Cavaliers in Charlottesville. The Blue Devils won their regular-season series in Virginia 2-1 at the end of April.

TCU's bats demolished Arkansas' pitching for a second time this weekend. The Horned Frogs scored a total of 32 runs in their two wins over the Fayetteville regional host.

TCU took the lead in the sixth inning on an Austin Davis two-run home run.

Tre Richardson, who hit two grand slams against Arkansas earlier in the weekend, finished off the victory with a two-run shot of his own.

The Horned Frogs will not have to go on the road next weekend, as the Indiana State Sycamores announced they could not host because of a scheduling conflict.

TCU will play the No. 14 national seed in Fort Worth with a chance to go to the College World Series on the line.

Arkansas was the highest-seeded team to lose in regional weekend. The Razorbacks' pitching staff was put in a tight spot by the first loss to TCU and they never recovered.

Three Teams Advance Out Of Losers Bracket

Florida, the Stanford Cardinal and the Southern Miss Golden Eagles took the longest path to winning the regional final.

All three teams won on Sunday to keep their seasons alive and then followed that up with regional-winning victories on Monday.

Florida blanked Texas Tech in Monday's opening game. The Gators outscored Texas Tech 13-1 in the pair of regional final contests.

Stanford used a mix of four pitchers to slow down A&M's bats in its 7-1 victory.

Alberto Rios Jr. broke the game open for the Cardinal with a two-run home run in the sixth inning.

Southern Miss finished off a wild Auburn regional with an 11-7 triumph over Penn, who won its first two games as the No. 4 seed.

The Golden Eagles overwhelmed the Penn pitching staff with their bats over both regional final contests. They scored 11 runs in each game.

Southern Miss takes on the Tennessee Volunteers at a site to be determined by the NCAA. That is one of two matchups between non-national seeds. The Oregon Ducks earned their host site over the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles because of seeding.

Florida faces the South Carolina Gamecocks in one of two all-SEC super regionals, while Stanford hosts the Texas Longhorns.
