Gui Khury continues to break new ground.

The 15-year-old landed a kickflip body varial 900 during a recent session, becoming the first person ever to successfully perform the trick.

Tony Hawk famously had the first-ever in-competition 900 in 1999 at the X Games. The legendary skater was 31 at the time.

Khury was only eight years old when he nailed his first 900 on a vert ramp, making him the youngest ever at the time. He has since gone a step further by hitting a 1080 on a vert ramp in front of Hawk himself.

The Brazilian is already a three-time gold medalist in the X Games, the first of which came when he was 12 in 2021. He has another four silvers and two bronzes.

By the time you're finished reading this, Khury may have done something else to raise the bar even higher.

Team USA skateboarder Nyjah Huston took home his first Olympic medal by earning bronze in the men's street competition at the Paris Games, but he's not entirely happy with his new hardware.

Per TMZ, Huston took to Instagram to show how it hasn't taken very long for the medal to look worn out.

"They look great when they're brand new, but after letting it sit on my skin with some sweat for lil' bit and letting my friends wear it over the weekend, they're apparently not as high quality as you would think," he said.

The medals at the Paris Olympics have a piece of the Eiffel Tower embedded in them to honor the host city, and that appears to be the only part of Huston's medal that hasn't deteriorated.

"I mean look at that thing," Huston said. "It's looking rough! Even the front is starting to chip off a little. I don't know. Olympic medals, maybe step up the quality a little bit."

Huston, a street skateboarding legend, placed seventh in his first Olympics at the Tokyo Games in 2021. The 15-time X Games gold medalist added to his legacy this summer, but it looks like his Olympic medal won't have a standout spot on his mantle when he returns home from Paris.

Tom Schaar's attempt to bring home the gold for the United States came down to his last trick.

Unfortunately, he was unable to pull off his run-defining 720, crashing to the ground and handing the gold to Australian Keegan Palmer. The Aussie captured his second straight Olympic gold in the skateboarding park event with a score of 93.11 at the 2024 Paris Games.

Schaar managed to capture silver for the U.S., while Augusto Akio of Brazil took home bronze.

Park Skateboarding Final Results

Gold: Keegan Palmer (Australia): 93.11

Silver: Tom Schaar (United States): 92.23

Bronze: Augusto Akio (Brazil): 91.85

The silver is the first Olympic medal for Schaar, the 24-year-old who burst onto the scene at age 12 when he became the first skateboarder to ever land a 1080.

Schaar was the most complete skateboarder in Wednesday's final, with all three of his runs scoring over 80. However, his jaw-dropping third run came to an unfortunate end when he failed to stick the landing on a 720 that would have almost certainly put him ahead of Palmer for gold.

When Schaar crashed to the ground, all Palmer had to do in his final run was skate to the adoring cheers of the Paris crowd.

Palmer is a two-time gold medalist at age 21. He and Arisa Trew swept the park competition for Australia, giving the country 15 golds overall. Australia is third behind the United States (24) and China (23) in the overall gold tally and fifth among all countries in total medals.

The U.S. leads the total medal count with 87. Akio's bronze was the 13th medal for Brazil in the Summer Games.

Arisa Trew won Tuesday's park skateboarding final at the 2024 Paris Games to become the youngest Olympic gold medalist in Australian history.

The 14-year-old finished with a top score of 93.18 in her final run to become the first Australian woman to claim skateboarding gold.

Japan's Cocona Hiraki claimed her second silver medal in the event, while Great Britain's Sky Brown earned her second bronze.

The full order of finish is below.

Women's park final results

  1. Arisa Trew, Australia: 93.18
  2. Cocona Hiraki, Japan: 92.63
  3. Sky Brown, Great Britain: 92.31
  4. Dora Varella, Brazil: 89.14
  5. Heili Sirvio, Finland: 88.89
  6. Bryce Wettstein, United States: 88.12
  7. Naia Laso, Spain: 86.28
  8. Hinano Kusaki, Japan: 69.76

Defending Olympic champion Sakura Yosozumi of Japan was eliminated in the preliminary round.

This is not the first time this year Trew has made skateboarding history. In May she posted a clip of her becoming the the first woman to land a 900, a two-and-a-half rotation spin.

The accomplishment came less than a year after Trew became the first female skateboarder to land a 720, necessitating two full spins, in competition.

Her gold medal-winning run included a 360 as well as the front flip and 540 known as the McTwist, per Samantha Wong of NBCOlympics.com.

Hiraki, who led qualifiers, topped the standings after the first run with 91.98 points before she was unseated by Trew and Brown.

She put up an even stronger run on her third attempt to climb back into position for the silver medal.

Brown earned bronze despite dislocating her shoulder days before competition, and suffering an apparently painful fall on the shoulder during her second run of the preliminary run.

Brown said on Instagram ahead of the competition that she was "not 100%" and would need to undergo surgery on her shoulder following the final.

Despite those limitations, Brown completed the comeback with a strong third run that clinched her a place on the podium. The 16-year-old will now add a second bronze to her collection after becoming the youngest Olympic medalist in Team Great Britain's history during her debut at the Games in 2021.

The men's skateboarding street final in the 2024 Summer Olympics went down to the wire as Japan's Yuto Horigome secured the gold medal with his last trick of the event.

The United States' Jagger Eaton and Nyjah Huston rounded out the medal podium.

Men's Street Final Results

Gold: Yuto Horigome, Japan (281.14)

Silver: Jagger Eaton, United States (281.04)

Bronze: Nyjah Huston, United States (279.38)

Huston and Eaton were sitting in first and second following the street run portion of the competition. They dazzled the Paris crowd with their variety of tricks.

Horigome, meanwhile, was in fourth place. His score of 89.90 on his first run put him narrowly behind compatriot Sora Shirai (90.11).

The reigning gold medalist stormed back when the trick section got underway. His first attempt earned a 94.16 score to immediately apply pressure to Huston and Eaton.

The Americans eventually responded. Huston's 92.79 and 93.22 briefly put him into first before Eaton's 95.25 on his penultimate trick catapulted him to the top of the leaderboard.

That left Horigome with one more chance to defend his gold. He landed his trademark backside nollie 270 when it counted the most, a story fans have seen plenty of times before. That earned him a whopping 97.08 to nudge him past Eaton.

Neither Eaton nor Huston could land their trick on their fifth try, sealing Horigome's second Olympic gold.

To get so close and come up short is always frustrating, but the two can at least celebrate what was an improved showing from their outcomes in the Tokyo Games. Eaton went from the bronze to the silver, while Huston is an Olympic medalist for the first time. For the latter, his performance will have felt especially cathartic.

With men's street in the books, Japan is tied for the most gold medals (five) and has 11 medals overall. The United States bumped its total to 14 medals, which is the highest haul so far.

Coco Yoshizawa dazzled the Paris crowd to win gold in women's street skateboarding Sunday in the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Japan claimed two medals with Liz Akama earning silver. Rayssa Leal rounded out the podium with the bronze.

Women's Street Final Results

Gold: Coco Yoshizawa, Japan (272.75)

Silver: Liz Akama, Japan (265.95)

Bronze: Rayssa Leal, Brazil (253.37)

Yoshizawa led the field during qualifying with a combined score of 258.92. Akama was hot on her heels at 257.99.

Akama set the early pace in the final with a high score of 89.26 on her second run and then a 92.62 with her first trick. But Yoshizawa raised the bar when she nailed a bigspin flip with a boardslide on her fourth attempt. The judges scored it at 96.49, catapulting her into first place.

Needing something special to overtake her compatriot, Akama fell on her final trick attempt to guarantee Yoshizawa the gold. That didn't stop her from hitting the course one more time to pad her overall tally.

The United States had two representatives in the eight-skater final field, but Paige Heyn (244.29, fifth) and Poe Pinson (241.12, eighth) needed to show a lot of improvement in order to climb into a medal position. They settled for sixth and fifth respectively.

The 2024 Summer Games were unforgiving to the returning medal winners.

Brazil's Leal, the silver medalist in Tokyo, put up a huge score of 92.88 in the trick portion. It all came down to her final trick after back-to-back stumbles, though, and she at least moved up into third with a score of 88.83.

Funa Nakayama fared much worse. The 2021 bronze medalist placed seventh after failing to land any of her five tricks.

Sunday's event brings Japan's medal total to five, including three golds. Leal gave Brazil its third medal of the Summer Games so far.

The men's street final is slated for Monday and follows the same schedule from the women's event. The preliminary round starts at 6 a.m. ET with the final to follow at 11 a.m.

The skateboarding discipline closes out with the women's and men's park competitions on Aug. 6 and 7, respectively.

Arisa Trew became the first-ever female skateboarder to complete a 900 on Thursday, accomplishing the feat during training on the halfpipe.

The 14-year-old is also the first female skateboarder to land a 720 in competition, having done so at the Tony Hawk Vert Alert last June.

Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk praised Trew on Instagram after the 900, writing in part: "Arisa Trew just became the first female to land a 900. Glass ceilings are so 2023. Congrats @arisa_trew! 🛹🌀🏆"

Hawk, of course, landed the first-ever 900 in competition back in 1999 at X Games 5 in San Francisco during the Skateboard Vert Best Trick competition.

Trew is currently ranked as the No. 2 female skateboarder in the world, per World Skate. She is looking to qualify for the Paris Summer Olympics in park skating (vert skating is not an Olympic sport).

Trew appears well on her way toward accomplishing that goal after finishing first in the Olympic Qualifier Series in May in Shanghai. She now moves on to the second and final part of the series, which begins June 20 in Budapest, Hungary.

Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk is back in the halfpipe one year after he suffered a broken leg.

Hawk posted video of himself completing a bluntslide on Thursday:

The trick came almost one year to the day that Hawk broke his femur. He announced on March 7, 2022, the injury required "plenty of hardware" to fix in surgery and recovery would "probably be the biggest test" of his skating career.

TMZ Sports reported at the time Hawk was skating when the injury occurred, though details of what happened were unknown.

After posting a pictures on Instagram of himself in December walking with a cane, Hawk took to Twitter to reassure everyone he needed assistance at that point because he recently had his femur "surgically realigned...in order to get back to what I love doing at a high level" and it wasn't a permanent situation.

Hawk retired from professional competition in 2003, though he did return to compete in the Vert Best Trick at the 2021 X Games. He finished fourth at the age of 53 in the nine-person field.

The California native became the first skateboarder to successfully complete a 900 at the X Games in 1999. He recreated that moment at the age of 48 in 2016 by pulling it off again on the 17th anniversary of the original.

Tony Hawk Discusses Serious Leg Injury, Reveals How He Suffered Broken Femur

Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk is no stranger to injuries, but the broken femur he suffered "feels different" from what he has experienced before.

The 53-year-old first revealed the injury in March:

He explained to Esquire's Jack Holmes the injury and how it happened are emblematic of fighting a losing battle with Father Time:

I feel like it's a major warning. If you want to get into the weeds of it, I was doing a McTwist and I didn't really have enough speed for it. I knew that going into it, but in the past, and in my younger days, that's not a problem. I just tuck it up and spin faster and I force it around. I don’t have that same snap. I can't ball up the way I used to, but I refused to believe that in that moment. And suddenly I was on the wall when I thought I was still in the air, and I was not ready to ride back down the ramp. And so I was recovering from that all the way down, and that snapped my leg.

Hawk retired from active competition in 2003, but he continues to skate recreationally and push his own limits. In March 2021, he shared a video from a session in which he wanted to land one final Ollie 540:

In most other sports, understanding what you can and cannot do as you age doesn't present much physical danger. Maybe your drives off the tee become shorter. You can't hit a baseball as far. You can't blow past a defender on the basketball court and finish with a thunderous jam.

In skateboarding, Hawk's broken femur shows how badly things can go wrong.

Last month, he explained why he continues to skate at his age.

"The answer is complicated, but ultimately it’s because I have found my sense of purpose and shaped my identity through skating, and it nourishes my mental health immensely," Hawk said. "I’ve said many times that I won’t stop skating until I am physically unable."

He added that his leg injury "will probably be the biggest test of that creed."
