Coastal Carolina head football coach Joe Moglia will miss the entire 2017 season to take a five-month medical sabbatical.

According to Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports, Moglia has a bronchial asthmatic reaction to allergies but emphasized it is "not a disease" and expects to be back once the 2017 campaign concludes.

The 68-year-old Moglia said the situation needed to be addressed for his long-term health, and doctors believe the sabbatical will help him return to full health.

Per Thamel, Coastal Carolina athletic director Matt Hogue said the following about Moglia's decision:

"Aside from this being a smart and prudent decision about his long-term health, I think we see from this another example of what makes Joe such a unique, extraordinary person. He is gifted with an ability to evaluate situations and make decisions from a perspective most people don't see. He's an ahead of the curve person and that is a major factor here. This level of proactivity will position him to return and lead our program to many more successes."

In Moglia's absence, offensive coordinator Jamey Chadwell will serve as Coastal Carolina's interim head coach.

The 2017 season will be Coastal Carolina's first as an FBS school after making the transition from FCS.

It will compete in the Sun Belt Conference. However, the Chanticleers aren't eligible to play in a bowl game as a first-year FBS program.

Moglia has been Coastal Carolina's head coach since 2012, posting a record of 51-15, including four trips to the FCS playoffs.

The University of South Alabama's football practice facility collapsed Saturday in Mobile, Alabama, during construction.

South Alabama athletic director Joel Erdmann tweeted a photo of the scene:

The school also released the following statement regarding the matter, per Dennis Pillion of AL.com:

"At approximately 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, the structure of the Jaguar Training Center, a covered athletics practice facility that is under construction on the University of South Alabama campus, fell within the construction limits of the site. No workers were present in that area at the time.

"University Police secured the scene of the event, which is under investigation. No determination has been made at this time about the cause."

While thunderstorms have ravaged the area recently, associate athletic director Brian Fremund said it hadn't yet been determined if they played a role in the collapse of the facility, per Pillion.

Alyssa Newton of WPMI tweeted a video of the wreckage:

Nicole Fierro of Local 15 News provided several photos of the aftermath as well:

According to Pillion, the original plan for the facility was for it to be completed in late 2017.

There is no current timetable for completion, but Erdmann said the school is considering several options, including retrying the original plan or creating a new one, per WKRG.

South Alabama has been an FBS school since entering the Sun Belt Conference in 2012.

Last season, the Jaguars went 6-7 and reached a bowl game for just the second time in the brief history of the program.

Georgia Southern's former co-offensive coordinators, David Dean and Rance Gillespie, have filed lawsuits against head coach Tyson Summers, several school administrators, including athletics director Tom Kleinlein, and the Georgia Southern athletic association, according to Dan Wolken of USA Today

The pair, who were fired after the team's 5-7 record last season, allege in their lawsuits "breach of contract, fraud and tortious interference after the school failed to execute the 18-month contracts the coaches signed initially, then pressured them to sign shorter deals two days before their dismissal."

Per Wolken's report, Dean and Gillespie signed 18-month contracts on Jan. 27, 2016, with June 30, 2017 being the final day of the agreement. But the pair allege they found out nine months later that the Board of Regents and the Georgia Southern University Athletic Foundation didn't sign the contracts. They allege Summers then told the staff new contracts were in the works.

The coaches then reportedly received new contracts on Nov. 16, with an end date of Feb. 28, 2017.

Wolken added:

"The lawsuit alleges that Summers, Kleinlein, senior associate athletics director for business operations Jeff Blythe and director of football operations Cymone George 'conspired to change the terms of the January Contract and specifically the employment end date' in order to save money, knowing they would be making coaching changes on the offensive staff."

Dean said he didn't intend to sign the new contract but was informed by Blythe that he could be fired at a moment's notice without pay or benefits. Gillespie said he was told the same.

The pair are reportedly seeking "damages including, but not limited to, the loss of compensation plus accrued interest and attorney fees."

Arkansas State Plans to Add Waterfalls in Renovated Football Stadium

Jun 24, 2017

Nothing embodies college football quite like a tropical resort.

Arkansas State unveiled designs to revamp Centennial Bank Stadium's north end zone. The elaborate renderings include waterfalls on both sides.

According to the school's site, the renovations will also feature a new weight room, locker room, players' lounge and "team-theater meeting area." The estimated price and completion date have yet to be announced, as the board of trustees must approve the final plan.

"The vision is very clear for us," athletics director Terry Mohajir said in a statement. "We're building an experience in order to help fund this opportunity to enhance the perception of our athletics program. This project will allow us to attract the top students in the country and provide first-class services to develop our students on and off the playing surfaces."

The Red Wolves are not the first program to give the fall and winter sport a summer vibe. UCF proposed building a beach club in its new stadium two years ago. Arkansas State is hardly a flashy or prestigious school, so this grand blueprint is likely an attempt to put the program on the map.

We are thankful for all the medical and support staff that are making sure he is being cared for. Our program and athletic department will continue to support Teh'Ron and his family any way we can during this difficult time."

WBTV noted the extent of Fuller's injuries is unknown at the time.

Four members of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns football team were disciplined after they were recorded singing lyrics to YG's "FDT" (F--k Donald Trump) in their locker room.

According to the Advertiser's Tim Buckley, the video surfaced "shortly before final results were in from Tuesday's election in which Trump was elected president."

Athletic director Scott Farmer released a statement Friday condemning the unidentified players' actions, per Buckley:

Recently, a video showing a small group of student-athletes acting inappropriately was recorded and shared on social media. This video in no way represents the views and values of the Ragin' Cajuns Football program, the Athletics Department or the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Like many of you, we are disappointed in the actions of these student-athletes. Coach Hudspeth recognized the severity of the situation and does not condone their behavior. He acted swiftly to discipline those involved and continues to educate the team on how their actions are a reflection of the name on the front of their jerseys.

The Ragin' Cajuns defeated Georgia Southern 33-26 on Thursday night, and head coach Mark Hudspeth apologized for the video during his postgame availability with reporters.

"I am obviously disappointed in a few of our players' immature behaviors that they demonstrated in the locker room," he said, according to Buckley. "We do not condone that type of behavior. It is not an example of our entire team. It does not represent our entire team."

Hudspeth did not disclose the severity of the discipline.

Nathan Harris, a freshman safety for the Troy Trojans, died Saturday at the age of 19 following a motorcycle accident in Gulf Shores, Alabama, according to NBC Sports' John Taylor.

"This is an unthinkable tragedy, and the thoughts and prayers of the Troy Athletics Department and the Troy University community are with Nathan’s family and friends," Troy athletic director Jeremy McClain said in a statement. "It is devastating to see a young life end in such a heartbreaking way, and we will provide support and comfort for his teammates, friends and coaches as they go through the grieving process."

According to WALA-TV's Mike Brantley, Harris starred at Gulf Shores High School before he walked on to the team at Troy.

"He has gone to live with God," Harris' high school coach, Ben Blackmon, said, per Brantley. "We are struggling here."

Blackmon told AL.com's Erin Edgemon that Harris was twice voted "man of character" by his teammates at Gulf Shores High School.

"Nate was a tremendous person and a very caring young man," Troy football head coach Neal Brown said, per the team's release. "While his time here at Troy University was brief, his impact was felt by many. He was loved by his teammates and had a positive effect on our team's culture in a short time."

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette football program will vacate 22 wins between the 2011-2014 seasons after a two-year investigation and subsequent ruling by the NCAA's Committee on Infractions, the school announced Thursday.

In addition to vacating the program's wins, the Ragin' Cajuns football team will vacate the statistics compiled by ineligible athletes from 2011-2014.

According to the school's official statement, penalties were levied against Louisiana at Lafayette after the NCAA's investigation revealed that an unnamed former assistant coach helped falsify the ACT scores of five athletes considering the program.

"While it is disappointing to vacate these victories and championships, we finally put this chapter behind us and will continue to grow our championship football program," director of athletics Scott Farmer said, per the statement. "We stand behind the integrity and accomplishments of Coach Mark Hudspeth, members of his coaching staff and each of our student-athletes who played football during the Hudspeth era."

While wins—including 2011 and 2013 Louisiana Bowl victories over San Diego State and Tulanewill be vacated, the school will not be slapped with a postseason ban by the NCAA.

As a result, the Ragin' Cajuns can move on from the investigation and take pride in the fact that they worked beside the NCAA to get to the bottom of the infractions.

"The NCAA stated that UL Lafayette's 'exemplary cooperation in this case was a model for the kind of relationship and cooperation member institutions should strive for in the infractions process,'" Farmer said.
