After announcing that he was retiring from boxing on June 19 following a ruling that he would be suspended for a year due to testing positive for a banned substance, Ryan Garcia clarified that his retirement will only last 365 days.
"I'm retiring for a year. So they don't get the [satisfaction] for suspending me cause it's bull," Garcia told TMZ Sports on Sunday. "I never took steroids in my life."
Garcia was suspended due to positive tests for the performance-enhancing drug ostarine. As part of a settlement with the New York State Athletic Commission on Thursday, Garcia forfeited his disclosed fight purse of $1.2 million from his match against Devin Haney in April and was fined $10,000. His win over Haney was overturned to a no-contest.
While speaking to TMZ, Garcia took aim at Haney and his father as well.
"It does [hurt]. [Devin's] a 'b,' and his daddy's a 'b.' The only reason I'm not cussing is cause my daughter's here," he said.
Garcia was also asked about his social media posts that suggested he was interested in fighting in the UFC, and he said he was being serious.
"I like 'Suga' Sean [O'Malley] cause he defended me [after cheating allegations]. But if he really wants to run it in the UFC, I'll run it. Or bare knuckle. S--t, I'm ready to fight anyone at this point," he said.

Ryan Garcia will serve a one-year suspension after reaching a settlement with the New York State Athletic Commission regarding his positive performance-enhancing drug tests ahead of his fight with Devin Haney.
Mike Coppinger of ESPN reported Garcia will forfeit his disclosed purse of $1.2 million. Garcia will be eligible for reinstatement April 20, 2025, provided he passes a drug test.
"The commission will continue to hold athletes to the highest professional standards and protect the integrity of all sports under our jurisdiction," the NYSAC said in a statement.
The decision comes after Garcia, 25, announced his retirement Wednesday on social media.
Garcia defeated Haney via majority decision in April. The win was considered a major upset, giving Haney the first loss of his professional career. The result has been overturned and will be a no-contest on both fighters' records.
"I want to thank the commission and the fans who stood by me during this whole process," Haney told Coppinger. "The facts are the facts, and I wasn't on an even playing field. Happy I was able to receive justice for what happened. It's all part of my story and it's only going to make me better. I look to enjoy this time with my family and friends and see what's next.
"I'm a clean athlete and boxing is a brutal sport where one fight can literally change your life. I think it important for fighters to be clean and I want to become an advocate for clean athletes for my experience in this situation."
Garcia has vehemently denied purposefully taking performance-enhancing drugs. His representatives released a statement saying the fight will "never be erased" despite being wiped from the record books.
"Ryan, with his legal team, has resolved this issue and firmly maintains his truth: he never intentionally took any banned substance," Team Garcia said in a statement provided to ESPN. "It's simply not in his nature. ... The fans will always remember his performance against Haney as a masterclass, and that will never be erased."
Haney remains the WBC junior welterweight champion, along with holding the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles. He has not announced his next fight.
Devin Haney Reacts to Ryan Garcia Suspension, Says He'll Return in 1 Year After Fight

Devin Haney responded to Ryan Garcia's one-year suspension on Thursday in a post on social media.
I’ll be back n one year.. I had all the belts already. From now on I’m fighting at whatever weight I choose no longer fighting n weight classes
After Garcia's legal team reached a settlement with NYSAC, his victory over Haney was officially ruled a no-contest and he will forfeit his $1.1 million purse back to Golden Boy Promotions (via boxing insider Dan Rafael).
While Rafael noted that Haney may earn a percentage of the purse, he questioned Golden Boy Promotions getting "any money" back.
Thank you too the commission for doing the right thing & making the right decision.. I don’t understand how golden boy is getting any money as if they took any punches. They haven’t even spoke out about this PED situation https://t.co/9exXRvsQEk
On April 20, Garcia secured a majority decision win over Haney after knocking him down three separate times. Haney initially suffered the first loss of his professional career after entering the bout with an undefeated record of 31-0.
However, two supplements listed on doping control forms submitted by Garcia before and after his win showed the presence of the banned substance ostarine (h/t ESPN's Mark Coppinger).
"I want to thank the commission and the fans who stood by me during this whole process," Haney said on Thursday, per Coppinger. "The facts are the facts and I wasn't on an even playing field. Happy I was able to receive justice for what happened. It's all part of my story and it's only going to make me better. I look to enjoy this time with my family and friends and see what's next."
"I think it's important for fighters to be clean and I want to become an advocate for clean athletes for my experience in this situation," he added.
According to Coppinger, Haney also sent a letter to the NYSAC on May 11 to formally request that his loss to Garcia be overturned to a disqualification win following the reveal of his failed test. Pat English, Haney's attorney, also argued that Garcia missing weight before the fight was a "tactic" that gave him an "unfair advantage."
As for Garcia, he has denied claims that he cheated in the past. He continued to deny the reports on Thursday, claiming that he is "innocent" and that "they took my victory away" in separate posts on X.
While Haney was pleased with the commission's choice to suspend Garcia for at least one year, he's still not thrilled about the decision involving part of the $1.1 million purse going back to Golden Boy Promotions.
Report: Ryan Garcia Suspended 1 Year, Devin Haney Boxing Fight Ruled No Contest

Ryan Garcia has agreed to at least a one-year suspension and his fight with Devin Haney has officially been ruled a no-contest after his legal team made a settlement with NYSAC, per boxing insider Dan Rafael.
Garcia will also forfeit the $1.1 million official contract purse back to Golden Boy Promotions, and Haney may get a percentage, Rafael noted. Garcia will also get a $10,000 fine, which is the state max.
Rafael also reported that Garcia will be subject to additional random drug testing during his suspension.
Following the settlement, Garcia voiced his disagreement on social media:
The fight, which would have been the 24th victory of his career, was a major upset for Garcia at the time. He scored three knockdowns against Haney, who came into the fight undefeated.
Following Garcia's majority decision win over Haney, it was reported the boxer tested positive for performance-enhancing substance ostarine both before and after the fight. His B-sample also tested positive for the PED.
After reports that he tested positive, Garcia denied the claim that he cheated, saying, "Everybody knows that I don't cheat."
His attorneys also released a statement claiming he had been a victim of "supplement contamination," per USA Today'sJosh Peter.
"This confirms what we have consistently maintained: Ryan was a victim of supplement contamination and has never intentionally used any banned or performance-enhancing substances," the statement said. "Any claims to the contrary, questioning Ryan's integrity as a clean fighter, are unequivocally false and defamatory."
On Wednesday, Garcia announced his retirement on X.
Whether he will stay retired is unclear, but the 25-year-old will be away from boxing for at least a year following his suspension.
Ryan Garcia Announces Retirement Following Controversial Devin Haney Boxing Fight

Boxer Ryan Garcia is hanging up the gloves.
The 25-year-old took to social media Wednesday and said he was "officially retired."
The announcement comes after his controversial April 20 bout against Devin Haney. ESPN's Mike Coppinger noted last month that Sports Medicine Research and Testing Laboratory reports revealed two supplements listed on Garcia's doping control forms showed the presence of the banned substance ostarine.
The retirement post came shortly after he said "I'm outty" and "I may retire I'm done with this game" in separate posts.
Garcia also lamented walking away but notably said "there is so much corruption I'm over it" and that "boxing will be alright without me."
Yall may catch me out and about but as far as boxing I don’t know
There is so much corruption I’m over it
I may do acting or singing
I’ll still be training but I’m hurt and done with it and everyone
As for the failed drug test from samples collected prior to the fight against Haney, Garcia's attorneys released a statement blaming "supplement contamination" for the results, per Josh Peter of USA Today.
The ostarine was detected in NutraBIO super carb raspberry lemonade and strawberry-flavored Body Health Perfect Amino.
Since the fight was in Brooklyn, the New York State Athletic Commission will eventually make a ruling. Boxing insider Lance Pugmire reported Tuesday the commission will meet this week to rule on Garcia, who could face a fine, suspension and/or even an overturning of his victory over Haney.
As for the fight, it was quite the upset win for Garcia.
He scored three knockdowns in the majority-decision victory, although he was not eligible to win Haney's WBC junior welterweight title since he weighed in at 3.2 pounds over the 140-pound contest.
The win improved Garcia's overall record to 25-1 with 20 knockouts.
Police: Ryan Garcia Hospitalized amid Arrest, Accused of Causing $15K in Damage
Jun 9, 2024

Boxing star Ryan Garcia was arrested on Saturday and charged with felony vandalism by the Beverley Hills Police Department after being accused of causing over $15,000 in damages at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, per ESPN's Mike Coppinger.
He may also be facing a charge of public intoxication.
Garcia was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for "evaluation and treatment" after complaining about a medical issue once in jail.
He posted about the situation on X:
I’m worried :( I have to be at this weird hospital and they are trying to give me medicine and they have me on a hold for who knows how long, they will determine
Garcia's attorney, Darin Chavez, said the arrest happened at "an extraordinarily challenging time for Ryan, as he has been grappling with devastating news regarding his mother's health" and released the following statement:
Ryan has been open about his struggles with mental health over the years, and at this time he is dealing with an immense emotional burden. The support and understanding from fans and the public are crucial as he navigates these personal challenges. We are working diligently to provide Ryan with the resources he needs. Our team is committed to ensuring that he receives the appropriate help and care to address both his immediate and long-term well-being. We ask for continued support and compassion as Ryan focuses on his family and his health at this time.
In early June, the 25-year-old Garcia said on social media that his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, which she confirmed this week.
In the ring, Garcia is 25-1 with 20 knockouts and emerged as one of the most promising young fighters in the sport after upsetting Devin Haney back in April.
But that contest was mired in controversy, both before and after the fight.
Beforehand, Garcia's mental health was a subject of concern given his social media behavior, to the point that the New York State Athletic Commission reportedly wanted him to undergo a mental health evaluation.
He then missed weight ahead of the fight, making him ineligible to claim Haney's WBC junior welterweight title.
After the fight, Garcia said he drank alcohol with regularity ahead of the fight with Haney.
"I don't give a f--k what people say about me," he told reporters. "I walked through the fire, and still held it down and still beat f--king Devin Haney, and still drank every day and still beat him—I did everything."
"I drank every single night, went out on the first Monday and Tuesday, and drank, drank, drank," he added. "What happened? I won. I'm not necessarily proud of it, but I'm just saying. It was a statement to say you guys can't really f--k with me. I can do whatever I want."
In May, however, Coppinger reported that a Sports Medicine Research and Testing Laboratory report showed an "adverse finding" for ostarine, a selective androgen receptor modulator.
Garcia denied taking the banned substance and his legal team said in a statement that it believes "one of the natural supplements Ryan was using in the lead up to the fight will prove to be contaminated."
He is facing a potential suspension if the New York State Athletic Commission finds that he was indeed taking a banned substance.
Report: Ryan Garcia Arrested for Alleged Felony Vandalism, Video Released

Professional boxer Ryan Garcia was allegedly arrested for felony vandalism Saturday at the Beverly Hills' Waldorf Astoria, according to TMZ Sports.
Garcia's attorney Darin Chavez provided an update to TMZ that the boxer was also taken to a hospital.
"[Ryan] was taken by the BHPD to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment and to our knowledge, may be charged with public intoxication," Chavez said.
TMZ Sports reported that they had obtained a video of Garcia being led away from the hotel in handcuffs. The video, which TMZ Sports reported did not show Garcia's face, appeared to show his back tattoos:
Ryan Garcia was arrested for felony vandalism at the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills on Saturday afternoon. Law enforcement sources say he trashed his room/hallway at the luxury hotel. Here was Ryan being taken away by BHPD.
Garcia was arrested after allegedly damaging his hotel room and the hotel hallway, TMZ Sports reported.
He "complied with authorities and went peacefully" after his alleged arrest, per TMZ Sports.
TMZ Sports also claimed that Garcia was "seemingly under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs" at the time of his arrest.
A vandalism charge in California can become a felony if the damage is worth more than $400.
TMZ Sports previously reported that one of Garcia's family members allegedly called a "wellness check" on the boxer at the same hotel Wednesday night.
Police allegedly arrived at the Waldorf Astoria and decided Garcia "was not a harm to himself or others" before leaving, TMZ Sports reported.
The alleged call came days after Garcia shared his mother's breast cancer diagnosis, which she later confirmed on Instagram.
The alleged wellness check would not be the first time an outside party has checked on Garcia's mental health. The New York State Athletic Commission asked Garcia to undergo a "mental health evaluation" before an April fight in Brooklyn due in part to his erratic social media presence, ESPN's Mike Coppinger reported.
The NYSAC "tested Garcia's brain function and gave him a standard competency test" in April, which he passed, according to Coppinger.
Garcia was unable to compete for the WBC junior welterweight title after he weighed in three pounds over prior to the fight against Devin Haney.
He still earned an upset majority decision win over Haney, although he tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance after the fight, Coppinger reported.
The boxer and his legal team have since claimed the tests were the result of "supplement contamination." Coppinger reported that the issue remains under review as of May 23.
Garcia remained in custody at the time of the report, according to TMZ Sports.
Ryan Garcia's Supplements Tested Positive for Banned Substance Around Haney Fight

Additional details of Ryan Garcia's failed drug test from samples collected prior to his April 20 bout against Devin Haney have been made public.
Per the Sports Medicine Research and Testing Laboratory report (h/t ESPN's Mike Coppinger), Garcia listed two supplements on his doping control form that contained the banned performance-enhancing drug ostarine.
The supplements were a NutraBio SuperCarb and Body Health amino-acid blend. Coppinger noted the former supplement showed the presence of ostarine at 70-2,200 picograms per gram powder, while the latter supplement contained 660 to 830 picograms of ostarine.
Garcia's drug test was originally reported to have come back positive for ostarine on May 1.
Ryan Garcia tested positive for the PED Ostarine the day before and the day of his upset win over Devin Haney, per a VADA letter obtained by ESPN. Garcia has 10 days to request his B-sample be tested. A-sample also screened positive for 19-norandrosterone but unconfirmed.
Garcia requested his B-sample be tested, which also returned positive in a Sports Medicine Research and Testing Laboratory report released on May 23.
In a statement released by Garcia's attorneys on Thursday, they blamed "supplement contamination" as the reason for the failed tests:
"This confirms what we have consistently maintained: Ryan was a victim of supplement contamination and has never intentionally used any banned or performance-enhancing substances. Any claims to the contrary, questioning Ryan's integrity as a clean fighter, are unequivocally false and defamatory."
Attorney Paul Greene, who is representing Garcia, told Coppinger there was a "negligent component" to his client's actions but he's hopeful the presence of ostarine in the supplements will prompt the New York State Athletic Commission to issue a reduced suspension for his client:
"I'm hopeful that [the punishment] will be on the very lowest end of how they determine these cases. Normally, there's a range of sanction based on degree of fault, and when you have a situation where you have a contaminated supplement where it's not available in an internet search, it's not on a label, there's no way an athlete could have possibly known the banned substance was in there unless they would've sent it to one of the two WADA-accredited laboratories in advance."
Greene believes a suspension of "four months or less" would be appropriate discipline for Garcia.
Garcia went into his fight with Haney 3.2 pounds over the 140-pound limit, but the two sides were able to come to an agreement to go through with the bout. King Ryan won the match by majority decision, but he wasn't able to win the WBC super lightweight title due to coming in overweight.
Haney, who went into the fight with a 31-0 record, has formally requested the result be overturned to a disqualification that would keep his perfect record intact.
Video: Ryan Garcia Apologizes to Logan Paul Amid Prime Hydration Lawsuit
May 28, 2024

Ryan Garcia is now backtracking on his previous comments about Prime energy drinks after Logan Paul's company filed a lawsuit against the outspoken boxer.
In an interview with Ana Paula Saenz, Garcia apologized directly to Paul by saying he feels "bad for the fight that we're going through because I've known the family for years" and this "s--t's breaking my heart."
Ryan Garcia apologizes to Logan Paul after the lawsuit and even drinks Prime on the podcast 😂😂😂 https://t.co/M1cGw1PQpp
The apology comes after Paul revealed last week on Instagram that Prime Hydration filed a defamation lawsuit against Garcia after King Ryan said on Instagram Live that the energy drink is unhealthy, "killing you" and anyone who drinks it is "working for Satan."
Garcia has a reputation for trolling, which he admitted was part of his strategy leading up to his recent fight with Devin Haney. He posted, then later deleted, "I f--king love steroids" after it was confirmed his B-sample collected prior to the bout with Haney returned positive for a performance-enhancing drug.
It's fair to think that Garcia's comments about Prime were part of his entire trolling act, but someone decided to call him out on it in a way that could result in him being forced to pay a lot of his money to get out of legal trouble.
Adding more drama to the situation is Garcia's ongoing war of words with Logan's brother, Jake Paul. Garcia issued a challenge to Paul in March in a series of posts on X (WARNING: contains strong language).
Okay enough, it’s on I’m going to have to do this! I’m going to end this JAKE PAUL BOXING THING.
BRING IT ON JAKE IM DEAD FUCKING SERIOUS FUCK YOU! HIT MY TEAM UP
Garcia and Jake Paul were at least friendly at one point, including filming content together for YouTube in 2020. Garcia has taken credit for bringing Paul into boxing, saying after Jake's win over Ryan Bourland in March he feels "feels so f-----g bad" for introducing him to the sport.
The Flash also volunteered to step in against Paul on July 27 if Mike Tyson is unable to fight after experiencing a medical scare on a weekend flight from Miami to Los Angeles, though Tyson's representatives said he is "doing great."
Prime was founded by Logan Paul and KSI in 2022.
Mike Tyson 'Doing Great' After Medical Emergency on Flight Before Jake Paul Fight

Mike Tyson's upcoming bout with Jake Paul could be in jeopardy after the former heavyweight champion suffered a medical emergency Sunday on a flight.
Per Ryan Glasspiegel and Matt Ehalt of the New York Post, Tyson's representatives confirmed he is "doing great" after suffering an ulcer flare that caused him to become nauseous and dizzy shortly before landing on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles.
"Thankfully Mr. Tyson is doing great," Tyson's representatives said in an email. "He became nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare up 30 minutes before landing. He is appreciative to the medical staff that were there to help him."
Ryan Garcia, who is facing a possible suspension after a confirmed positive test for a performance-enhancing drug prior to his April 20 bout with Devin Haney, volunteered to take Tyson's spot if he can't go against Paul.
Paul and Garcia have been trading barbs online for several weeks. King Ryan issued a challenge to Paul in a March 2 post on X (warning: contains strong language).
Okay enough, it’s on I’m going to have to do this! I’m going to end this JAKE PAUL BOXING THING.
BRING IT ON JAKE IM DEAD FUCKING SERIOUS FUCK YOU! HIT MY TEAM UP
Paul responded shortly after that, telling reporters Garcia would be "light work" for him.
Katherine Schaffstall of In Touch first reported the news that Tyson suffered a "medical emergency" before paramedics arrived.
The flight was initially delayed by two hours due to a technical issue with the plane.
One eyewitness explained the situation from their point of view to Schaffstall:
"He was in first class, but we were an exit row. They asked us to stay on the plane and landed so paramedics could enter. [The stewardess] said something like, 'He's a really important passenger so we wanna make sure he's OK.' I knew it was him, but I just mouthed the words 'Mike Tyson' and she nodded her head yes."
It's unclear at this point how, if at all, this might impact Tyson's ability to train or compete in the scheduled July 20 match against Paul.
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations announced on April 29 the Tyson-Paul bout would be sanctioned as a professional fight.
Tyson's last sanctioned bout was in June 2005 when he lost to Kevin McBride. The 57-year-old did have an exhibition contest against Roy Jones Jr. that ended in a draw on Nov. 28, 2020.
Paul and Tyson are scheduled to headline the show from AT&T Stadium. The semi-main event features undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor defending her crown against Amanda Serrano.
