Manchester United booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2017-18 FA Cup by beating Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 in their quarter-final clash at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Romelu Lukaku continued his strong vein of scoring form by heading in the first against the Seagulls, and Nemanja Matic turned from puppeteer to finisher when he added a second late on.

Christian Eriksen's double helped Tottenham Hotspur beat Swansea City 3-0 in Saturday's earlier quarter-final, as Spurs became the first team to take their spot in this season's last four.

Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez started Saturday's showdown on the bench, as Jose Mourinho instead preferred Scott McTominay in the middle of the park and Anthony Martial in attack, per ESPN FC's Rob Dawson:

Meanwhile, Sergio Romero retained his place as Mourinho's FA Cup goalkeeper, and Luke Shaw returned to face a team the Red Devils had defeated 1-0 at Old Trafford in November.

The Seagulls enjoyed a good share of possession early on, but it wasn't long before United fell into their usual pattern of dominating possession—at least against "smaller" teams.

Brighton's front three of Leonardo Ulloa, Jurgen Locadia and Solly March made attempts to rustle the United back line, and while the home side had more possession, they struggled to turn that pressure into chances.

Goal's Sacha Pisani saw Chris Hughton's visitors as the better side inside half an hour, as Brighton sat deep to protect their own lines above all else:

Both teams' central defenders had big chances denied around 30 minutes in, when Lewis Dunk tested Romero at one end and Chris Smalling headed off the outside of the post from a corner down the other.

Lukaku finally ended the inaccurate string of attempts, meeting Matic's first-time cross at the far post to head in. James Ducker of the Telegraph noted that for all the criticisms, the Belgian has enjoyed a fruitful first term at Old Trafford:

Ashley Young replaced Shaw at left-back at half-time after the latter surrendered territory down his flank several times in the first period.

After leading the shot count 7-5 at half-time, United failed to register an attempt at the Brighton goal in the first 25 minutes of the second half, a period in which the Seagulls managed eight, per WhoScored.com.

The travelling fans could afford to feel some promise around that improvement, especially when their team came close to scoring through Pascal Gross, while nerves grew that the United contingent might struggle to get a second.

Tim Krul was hardly tested in the second half but was beaten when finally called upon in the 83rd minute, failing to prevent Matic's header at the back post from meeting its target. Pisani felt the scoresheet aptly highlighted the best players on the day:

The introduction of Young as free-kick taker had its impact and directed some credit for the victory toward Mourinho's tactics.

Brighton's hope of an FA Cup fairytale ended at the Theatre of Dreams, with the two remaining semi-final berths to be decided when Wigan Athletic host Southampton and Chelsea travel to Leicester City on Sunday.

Chelsea will hope to bounce back from their UEFA Champions League elimination at the hands of Barcelona when they take on Leicester City in the FA Cup on Sunday.

The Blues put up a valiant effort but were no match for the La Liga leaders, losing 3-0 at the Camp Nou. They'll have just a few days to recover from that setback before going up against a Foxes team that is rested and out of contention in the Premier League―they should have their entire focus on this quarter-final.

Here's all you need to know about the upcoming fixture.

The final scoreline of Chelsea's defeat in Barcelona may have looked one-sided, as the Catalans ran out to a 3-0 win, but there was an air of positivity surrounding the Blues after the loss.

Sportswriter Kelvin Barker summed up how most fans appeared to feel after their European exit:

https://twitter.com/ChelseaKelv/status/974037456789082113

The Blaugrana were simply too good, powered by an unleashed Lionel Messi, who served up another vintage performance.

He drew plenty of praise from pundits and fans alike after the match, and Blues manager Antonio Conte also didn't hide his admiration.

He had some kind words for his own players as well, urging them to keep up the good work:

But the Blues now face two crucial matches in a row, starting with an FA Cup meeting with Leicester. After the international break, they'll play host to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League in another pivotal match.

The FA Cup presents Conte and his troops with their best chance for silverware, while in the Premier League, the race for a top-four finish and Champions League football for next season is heating up.

The latter is arguably more important to attract players in the summer, but with a lengthy break on the horizon, Conte should not rest his stars on Sunday.

Leicester sit in eighth place in the standings, well outside of the race for the European spots but also miles ahead of the teams in the relegation battle. At this point, the Foxes have little left to play for in the league, and they're likely to prioritise the FA Cup.

They cruised to a 4-1 win over West Bromwich Albion in their last outing, with Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and Kelechi Iheanacho all getting on the scoresheet. Their form in front of goal is a good sign for the hosts and a bad one for the Blues.

Chelsea will need a far better performance from goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois than they got at the Camp Nou. The Belgian has not been in great form of late, letting in far too many shots a player of his calibre should save.

Up front, it's crucial the strikers start to play up to their potential. Both Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata have not found the net with consistency, and that will need to change if the Blues want to achieve their goals moving forward.

Manchester United will try to use the quarter-final of the 2018 FA Cup to bounce back from Tuesday's 2-1 defeat to Sevilla in the UEFA Champions League. The Red Devils face Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, knowing the cup is their only realistic chance to win a trophy this season.

Before United are in action, in-form Swansea City will hope to exploit Harry Kane's absence when they host Tottenham Hotspur.

Sunday will see League One outfit Wigan Athletic, conquerors of runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City in the last round, host a struggling Southampton side fresh off hiring Mark Hughes as manager, two days after sacking Mauricio Pellegrino.

Later, the tie of the sixth round sees a dangerous Leicester City outfit welcome last season's beaten finalists Chelsea to the King Power Stadium.

Tottenham's case for winning a first trophy since the 2008 League Cup has been dented by news star striker Kane will be out until April.

The 24-year-old damaged his ankle ligaments during Sunday's 4-1 win at Bournemouth, and his club released a statement confirming how long the England international will be out.

Tottenham Hotspur's English striker Harry Kane (R) receives medical attention after picking up an injury during the English Premier League football match between Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur at the Vitality Stadium in Bournemouth, southern England on

Kane's goals will be a big miss, especially against a Swansea side that is surprisingly stout at the back. The Swans kept a clean sheet with 10 men against Huddersfield Town last weekend to underline their stingy streak.

Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and centre-backs Alfie Mawson and Federico Fernandez have all been in terrific form since Carlos Carvalhal took over as manager. If Swansea can keep the door closed during the early exchanges, an upset will be on the cards.

Similarly, Southampton could be on the receiving end of another Wigan shock, despite Hughes taking charge for the first time. The 54-year-old has been hired until the end of the season, per a statement on the club's official website.

Hughes is reportedly in line for the Southampton job.
Hughes is reportedly in line for the Southampton job.

Hughes may well have one eye on Premier League survival, but losing focus even slightly could prove fatal against a club with a strong recent history of cup giant-killings.

It's surprising to see the odds favour Chelsea so clearly for their trip to Leicester. The Foxes have been playing some terrific football under manager Claude Puel.

His squad is also loaded in attacking areas, where familiar duo Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez are receiving excellent support from Kelechi Iheanacho and Fousseni Diabate.

Chelsea's responseboth physical and mentalto their taxing Champions League tie against Barcelona, with the Blues exiting the tournament 4-1 on aggregate, will prove decisive on Sunday.

By then, United boss Jose Mourinho will hope his side has already booked a place in the last four. It will demand his players being sharper, quicker and more ambitious than they were against Sevilla in the Champions League on Tuesday in a 2-1 home defeat.

Ambition can come from more progressive tactics, specifically a desire to get extra bodies forward and grant greater freedom to attacking players such as Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba.

BT Sport pundit Gary Lineker was particularly critical of United's approach:

United have the talent in the final third to win with room to spare. Yet any sluggishness could be punished by a well-organised Brighton side with creativity and goals thanks to midfielder Pascal Gross and striker Glenn Murray.

Manchester United are still licking their wounds from Tuesday's UEFA Champions League exit against Sevilla, but they host Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday in a clash that could boost their spirits.

Two tournament departures in the space of five days would be disastrous for the Red Devils, who will now be looking at the FA Cup as their only realistic hope of silverware remaining this season.

Brighton boss Chris Hughton is also seeking a return to winning ways after Everton ended his side's seven-match unbeaten streak with a 2-0 Premier League win at Goodison Park last week.

The Seagulls' only appearance in an FA Cup final came against United in 1983, when they lost 4-0 in a replay result, providing some welcome spice as they look to mimic Sevilla and stage a surprise at Old Trafford.

Paul Pogba returned from injury against Sevilla and came off the bench—as did Juan Mata and Anthony Martial—but was unable to exert much impact on a drab performance from the Red Devils.

One would expect manager Jose Mourinho will reinstall Pogba in his starting lineup considering the importance of Saturday's clash, although Ally McCoist suggested on BBC 5 live Sport he may not be deserving:

United have a few longer-term absentees including Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Daley Blind, but PhysioRoom.com hinted the Swede is the only one among that number who could be nearing a return to the team:

Anthony Knockaert will serve the first match of a three-game suspension after he was shown a straight red card in Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Everton, while Gaetan Bong is a doubt after coming off injured at Goodison.

Midfielder Dale Stephens is in contention to come back into the Brighton lineup after he missed the trip to Merseyside due to a knock. Steve Sidwell and Jiri Skalak have been absent since January with back and ankle injuries, respectively, but both could be in contention to make Saturday's squad.

Brighton will likely have felt bittersweet about seeing United knocked out of the Champions League on Tuesday. It's a positive for them that the mood at Old Trafford will be dampened as a result, although it means they'll now be encountering a United team even more conscious of being ousted from the FA Cup.

The players at Old Trafford will be feeling the pressure to win on Saturday as a result, although Mourinho may have gone slightly too far in the other direction to suggest their European exit was no major deal:

Brighton have already travelled to Old Trafford once this season and came away as 1-0 losers due to a Lewis Dunk own goal.

A staunch defence will be critical to the visitors' chances of success once again at Old Trafford, and The Times' George Caulkin has praised the fine work of Hughton after he won the Premier League's Manager of the Month award for February:

https://twitter.com/CaulkinTheTimes/status/970319527115452422

He led his side to a record of three wins and one draw from their four matches that month, although all three wins were at the Amex Stadium, while their sole draw came away to Stoke City at the Bet365 Stadium.

Brighton beat Middlesbrough 1-0 away in the fifth round to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals, but Old Trafford will require a step up in quality, and football writer Andy Mitten hailed United's supreme home record despite Tuesday's loss, via Off The Ball:

Brighton have been through a good run of late but have won only two away games in the Premier League all term, seeding some doubt as to whether they'll be able to avoid a second defeat of the season at Old Trafford.

United look likely to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League and are under pressure to win a trophy, but an all-or-nothing Brighton display on Saturday could see them lose a second title shot in the space of a week.

Tottenham Hotspur will play Swansea City in the quarter-finals of the 2018 FA Cup after beating Rochdale 6-1 in the fifth-round replay at a snow-covered Wembley Stadium on Wednesday.

A hat-trick from Harry Kane's stand-in Fernando Llorente broke a 1-1 deadlock in the second half. The opening half had been mired in controversy after decisions made with the use of the video assistant referee saw Erik Lamela and Heung-Min Son have goals chalked off for Spurs.

Son did still get on the scoresheet twice, while substitute Kyle Walker-Peters added a sixth in injury time, as last season's beaten semi-finalists ultimately eased their way into the last eight.

Spurs will play the Swans, who beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 at home on Tuesday, thanks to goals from Jordan Ayew and Nathan Dyer.

Here is the updated quarter-final schedule after Wednesday's replay:

Saturday, March 17

  • Swansea City vs. Tottenham Hotspur 12:15 p.m. GMT/7:15 a.m. ET.
  • Manchester United vs. Brighton & Hove Albion 7:45 p.m. GMT/2:45 p.m. ET.

Sunday, March 18

In Wednesday's match, the first half descended into chaos when referee Paul Tierney used VAR twice in a matter of minutes. The official called on the replay system to reverse his initial decision to award Spurs a free-kick after right-back Kieran Trippier had been felled, seemingly, on the edge of the box.

However, Tierney awarded a penalty after a lengthy review. The spot-kick would be disallowed, though, after the official spotted encroachment. Yet the referee still needed another look on replay to confirm his decision.

Brighton & Hove Albion defender Shane Duffy lamented VAR's negative impact:

To compound matters, Son was booked after using a stuttered, delayed run-up.

Earlier, Lamela's close-range finish on seven minutes had been ruled out by Tierney and VAR after a lengthy pause before the referee deemed Llorente had committed a foul in the buildup.

Surprisingly, Tierney opted against using VAR after 21 minutes when Lucas Moura appeared to be bundled over in the box. Tottenham's appeals were waved away instantly, despite the incident seeming worthy of a second look.

Spurs rallied and took the lead on 23 minutes when Lamela released Son, who angled a shot into the bottom corner. Scoring in the cup has become a happy habit for the South Korea international, per Squawka Football:

It took Rochdale only eight minutes to draw level, with the League One side scoring through Stephen Humphrys. His finish broke a lengthy stingy streak enjoyed by the Tottenham defence recently, according to OptaJoe:

The visitors piled on the pressure for most of the remainder of the half, going close in stoppage time when Andy Cannon struck the post with goalkeeper Michel Vorm beaten.

Rochdale would rue the miss when Llorente completed his hat-trick in just 12 second-half minutes. The target man's goal glut inspired Son, who added his second before making way for Dele Alli.

It was Alli who teed up Walker-Peters to cap an impressive second half for the hosts.

Spurs had turned on the style after the break to emerge as worthy winners. The north London club is on the up, but a trophy is needed to truly vindicate the progress made under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

With last season's conquerors Chelsea, as well as Manchester United, still in the tournament, winning the cup won't be easy, but this Tottenham squad boasts the quality to finally end a 10-year drought without silverware.

FA to Launch Inquiry After Sergio Aguero Clashed with Fan in Man City FA Cup KO

Wigan Athletic reportedly face an inquiry from the FA after Sergio Aguero clashed with a fan on the pitch following the Latics' shock 1-0 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup on Monday.

That's according to the Daily Mail's Jack Gaughan, who reported a fan attempted to punch the striker amid the pitch invasion at the DW Stadium at full-time, and the Sky Blues want an explanation from Wigan as to how it was allowed to happen.

Aguero appeared to strike out at the fan in retaliation but was held back by City physio Steven Lilley, as well as coach Mikel Arteta and Wigan defender Cheyenne Dunkley.

City might also find themselves in trouble after their fans "scrapped with stewards and police long after full-time" and threw advertising hoardings among other objects.

Despite the post-match incident, police confirmed to Alexandra Rucki of the Manchester Evening News that there were no complaints made to authorities regarding the clash.

Football writer Tom McDermott suggested the FA should investigate the Sky Blues and believes Aguero could face a lengthy ban for his apparent retaliation against the supporter:

Former Premier League footballer Jay Bothroyd defended Aguero, as did the Mirror's Darren Lewis:

Wigan chairman David Sharpe and manager Paul Cook were both critical of the fans' actions at the end of the match.

"It's not nice to see," Sharpe said. "Football is emotional, it's what it does to fans. But I don't like to see this at the end of the game. It is a massive result, but we have to stay classy in football. I don't like what I am seeing here."

Cook added: "It's not right, it's not correct, player safety is paramount."

Wigan won the match thanks to Will Grigg's 79th-minute goal, with City playing the second half with 10 men after Fabian Delph received a straight red card on the stroke of half-time for his challenge on Max Power.

Despite the setback, the visitors still dominated the League One side, per Match of the Day host Gary Lineker:

City boss Pep Guardiola was evidently frustrated after the match, telling BBC Sport (h/t MailOnline's Spencer Morgan): "Congratulations for Wigan for the qualification, they had one shot on target."

He continued:

"We did absolutely everything, we made a mistake and this kind of game is like a final. OK, we accept the defeat.

"I don't have regrets with the way we played, the performance, the heart. I judge my players on intentions and not results and the intentions were good."

City's exit from the Cup will prevent them from winning an unprecedented quadruple, but they'll have the chance to secure silverware on Sunday against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final.

The last eight of the tournament triggers the business end of the competition, as Manchester United prepare to welcome Brighton & Hove Albion.

Premier League champions Chelsea travel to Leicester City, while Sheffield Wednesday or Swansea City face either Tottenham Hotspur or Rochdale after their respective replays.

Manchester United's hiccups in the Premier League have again directed them to focus on cup competitions, and the Red Devils will face top-flight opposition when Brighton arrive at Old Trafford.

Brighton took United to a replay after a 2-2 draw at Wembley Stadium, but the Manchester giants were ruthless as they won the game 4-0 under the captaincy of Bryan Robson.

As a promoted team, Brighton have performed well in their first season in the Premier League, and they lie 14th as the campaign heads down the final straight.

United can't take their eye off the ball in the league, despite comfortably being in the top four most of the season, with Spurs just four points behind them in fifth.

Scott McTominay featured for United as they defeated Huddersfield Town in the fifth round on Saturday, and Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho was quick to praise the 21-year-old, per Simon Peach of the Press Association:

Leicester will fancy their chances when Chelsea visit the east Midlands in the next round.

Blues head coach Antonio Conte has endured a difficult second season in charge at Stamford Bridge, and his team are a shadow of the side that romped to the Premier League title last term.

The Foxes have recovered from a relatively bleak period and have thrived under the tenure of manager Claude Puel. The Frenchman has restored calm and order to the ranks.

Attacker Riyad Mahrez has remained at the club despite his expected departure in January, and the Algeria international will be a huge asset as they attempt to reach the semi-finals.

Jamie Vardy has remained productive up front, scoring 13 goals in 26 Premier League appearances this season.

Chelsea will need to be at their best to progress, but the west London side have appeared vulnerable on the road this season.

Spurs will be expected to see off Rochdale in their replay to claim a spot in the last eight, but either Sheffield Wednesday or Swansea will pose a significant threat.

As they chase the top four, and with the UEFA Champions League in full swing, the last thing the Lilywhites need is additional fixtures in the cup.

However, if they win their replay against Rochdale, they have an excellent chance of making it to Wembley for the final—a stadium they are now familiar with after using it as their home ground this season.

Manchester City's exit is the shock of the competition so far, but Wigan deserved their victory after they battled tooth and nail with the Premier League leaders.

The Latics' reward is a home clash against Southampton, and the League One side are just one victory away from an unlikely spot in the last four.

Manchester City's hopes of a quadruple were shattered at Wigan Athletic on Monday, as the hosts prevailed 1-0 in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

City were reduced to 10 men at the end of the first half, and Wigan took advantage when Will Grigg fired a late winner to spark dramatic scenes.

Fabian Delph was shown a straight red card on the stroke of half-time, and the incident gave the home team the energy and advantage they needed to progress.

Wigan will host Southampton in the last eight.

Here is the updated FA Cup quarter-final draw:

Sheffield Wednesday or Swansea City vs. Rochdale or Tottenham Hotspur

It developed into a stressful night for City as they made the short hop to Wigan in Greater Manchester, and the Premier League side struggled to break the deadlock in an open match.

David Silva returned to the starting XI as City manager Pep Guardiola fielded a strong side, but Kevin De Bruyne was rested on the bench.

As expected, City dominated the ball, but Wigan did a great job of closing down their illustrious opponents in the opening stages.

Sergio Aguero went closest for the visitors, but his shot was saved by Latics goalkeeper Christian Walton.

Grigg remained a nuisance for the hosts in attack, with City defenders caught on the ball in a couple of instances.

The flashpoint of the first 45 minutes occurred seconds before the half-time whistle. Delph was penalised for a challenge on Max Power, and the Wigan player writhed in pain as the City midfielder protested his innocence.

Referee Anthony Taylor initially pulled the yellow card from his pocket but then upgraded the punishment to red.

The moment was hotly disputed by City's players and coaching staff, but television replays showed Delph was out of control as he made the tackle.

Mark Ogden of ESPN backed the referee's call:

Guardiola was clearly upset, and he was forced to make tactical changes early in the second half.

Kyle Walker replaced Leroy Sane, and City reshaped their attack and continued to play progressive football.

De Bruyne was drafted into the action as the visitors attempted to negate their numerical disadvantage, but Wigan continued to fight while City piled on the pressure.

The last 20 minutes were hectic, and De Bruyne's arrival put wind in City's sails.

However, events took a shocking turn as Wigan raced away on the break in the 79th minute. Walker let the ball run past him, but Grigg raced onto it and held off the England full-back before firing into the bottom corner.

City threw everything at Wigan in the closing stages, and hearts were in mouths as De Bruyne dictated the traffic.

However, Wigan survived and and earned a thoroughly deserved win against one of the best teams in world football.

Sunday Recap

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino opted to rotate his side as they took on Rochdale, who are bottom of League One. Star men Kane and Dele Alli were left on the bench, with January signing Moura making his first start. Rochdale shared the two teams on Twitter:

Rochdale had opted to relay their pitch ahead of the cup clash, and it looked in good shape ahead of kick-off, according to Football.London's Alasdair Gold:

Moura looked bright in the opening stages for Spurs, but it was Rochdale who had the first chance on goal. A quick counter-attack gave Ian Henderson sight of goal, but he could only shoot straight at goalkeeper Michel Vorm.

Spurs then should have opened the scoring through Fernando Llorente after he was teed up by Moussa Sissoko, but the striker fired wide.

Rochdale then took the lead on the stroke of half-time after Harry Winks was dispossessed. The hosts raced forward with Andy Cannon setting up Henderson to sweep past Vorm. Henry Winter at The Times felt the hosts thoroughly deserved their lead:

Spurs hit back in the second half as Moura scored his first goal for his new club to bring them level just before the hour mark. The Brazil international started the move and was then slipped in by Sissoko before finishing coolly. Opta showed how effective the 25-year-old is:

Rochdale had a penalty shout almost immediately afterwards as Henderson went down after tangling with Juan Foyth, but referee Bobby Madley waved the appeals away.

In search of the win, Pochettino sent on Erik Lamela for Winks and then Alli for Moura, who had an impressive debut, per journalist Ben Pearce:

Spurs went close through Victor Wanyama, but he missed a chance after a corner found him coming in at the far post. Kane then joined the fray as Spurs ramped up the pressure, and Alli had an effort headed off the line by James McNulty.

The pressure eventually told as Alli went down under a challenge from Harrison McGahey and won a penalty. Kane made no mistake from the spot to put Spurs ahead with just two minutes remaining.

Rochdale looked to be heading out of the competition but managed to hit back three minutes into stoppage time as a cross into the box found Davies, who slotted home to spark wild celebrations.

It was a memorable result for Rochdale but a real disappointment for Spurs, who must now fit another game into an already-packed fixture list.

Saturday Recap

Lukaku opened the scoring after just three minutes. Juan Mata put him through on goal, and he made no mistake. Opta showed his excellent record in the competition:

Huddersfield responded well to going behind and had the better of the first half, but they could not make their dominance count. The visitors then scored again just before half-time, but Mata saw his effort disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

Sports journalist Duncan Castles was not impressed with the decision:

Lukaku added a second goal 10 minutes into the second half after the visitors caught Huddersfield on the break. Alexis Sanchez slid in Lukaku, and he once again finished clinically to double his side's lead.

The Mirror's John Cross praised Sanchez for his contribution:

The visitors then comfortably saw the game out to keep their FA Cup hopes alive, although the VAR decision will be the game's biggest talking point.

Brighton made light work of League Two side Coventry at the Amex Stadium to secure a 3-1 victory. New signing Jurgen Locadia enjoyed a debut to remember, opening the scoring after 15 minutes.

Squawka Football showed how it was first shot on target for his new side:

Locadia had further chances to score before Connor Goldson doubled Brighton's lead on 34 minutes; the defender headed home Markus Suttner's corner for an incredibly rare goal, per Opta:

Coventry did have chances to score, but Leonardo Ulloa headed home Brighton's third in the second half to put the game out of reach.

Opta showed how long Ulloa, in his second stint at the club, had gone between goals for Brighton:

Jonson Clarke-Harris grabbed one back for Coventry, but it was just a consolation for the visitors as Brighton make the last eight in the FA Cup for the first time since 1986.

Southampton also tasted victory and poured more misery on Premier League bottom side West Bromwich Albion.

Albion's preparations for the game had been disrupted after an incident during a training trip to Barcelona. BBC Sport explained their troubles:

Things got even worse for the Baggies at the Hawthorns, as goals from Wesley Hoedt and Dusan Tadic put the visitors into a 2-0 lead. Salomon Rondon then volleyed home brilliantly to halve the deficit before Ahmed Hegazi hit the bar late on, but it was not enough for Alan Pardew's side.

TalkSport's Mike Parry summed up the current situation at the club:

The Baggies are bottom of the Premier League table by five points and also have the unwanted fallout from their trip to Barcelona to contend with.
