Marussia Auction: Top 10 Items for Sale from the Former F1 Team
Marussia Auction: Top 10 Items for Sale from the Former F1 Team

Starting on Tuesday, December 16, the remaining assets of the Marussia Formula One team will be sold in an online auction.
The sale is a sobering reminder of the realities of the business side of F1 racing, with both Marussia and Caterham looking unlikely to make the grid in 2015—although the BBC's James Allen recently reported on his personal site that both teams are still trying.
Nonetheless, the sale will go ahead this week and, if you haven't finished your Christmas shopping yet, there could be a few bargains up for grabs. To save you the time of sifting through nearly 1,000 lots, we have identified the top 10 available items.
All photos in this slideshow are taken from the Auction HQ listing catalog.
10. 300 Marussia Hats

There is a ton of team merchandise available, from shirts to model cars to belts to socks. Most of the hats are being sold in batches of 100, but there are a couple of lots that feature 300 hats!
Now, you might not think you need 300 hats...and you're probably right. But if everyone on your Christmas list happens to be a Marussia fan, you could finish your shopping in about five minutes.
Plus, it would be fun to tell your friends that you bought 300 Marussia caps—and maybe you could make a bit of money selling them on eBay.
9. Race Suit with Unknown Signatures

There are lots of race suits available, as well. Some of them are even signed. But the best part is that the signed ones, like this Timo Glock suit, say they feature "unknown signatures."
Cool—mystery autographs!
Well, actually there is not much mystery. A quick Google search reveals that both signatures are Glock's. But an authentic race suit would still make a great collectible.
8. 3-D Printer

For the person who has everything...think of all the neat things they could make if they had their own 3-D printer. Well, now they can.
If you buy it, hopefully you live nearby the Marussia factory, though. That thing looks heavy—I'd hate to see the shipping charges.
7. Pit Crew Helmets

If you live somewhere that gets a lot of snow, you know what a pain it is to put your winter tyres on. Usually, you wait until the first big snowfall and then struggle with the jack and torque wrench while your fingers freeze.
But not anymore! Snap up this lot of authentic Marussia helmets, invite your buddies over and set them to work as your personal pit crew. Challenge them to break Red Bull's pit stop record while you "work" as the lollipop man.
6. Reception Desk

Maybe you have always dreamed of a job in F1, but the pit crew is a bit too exciting and dangerous for you. If you would prefer something a bit more sedate, Marussia has you covered.
Pick up this team-branded reception desk, perfect for the front doorway of your house (unless you live in a bachelor apartment), and greet all your guests in style, pretending that you are a Marussia receptionist!
5. Steering Wheel

Now we're getting into the really good stuff.
This steering wheel is from 2010, so it's not quite as fancy as the newest versions, but it would still make a great conversation piece on your coffee table. Just looking at all those dials and buttons, you will be able to empathise with Lewis Hamilton, who couldn't figure out which button he was supposed to press at the German Grand Prix.
4. Nose and Front Wing

If you—or the person you picked in Secret Santa—has a bit more display space, upgrade from the steering wheel to a full nose and front wing.
This one comes from the 2013 car and features Max Chilton's number 23.
3. Simulator

This is the ultimate gift for the gamer in your life. The seat on this simulator looks comfortable enough for full-length races on the latest Codemasters F1 game.
The listing does not mention why the car on the screen looks like a Lotus.
2. Dual-Level Office Trailer

Imagine rolling into the RV campground with this beast in tow. The auction listing has plenty of interior photos from this dual-level office trailer, but needless to say, you would be travelling in style if you snag this lot.
Storage may be an issue if you live in the city, but you could always sell your house and live full-time in the trailer.
1. 2013 Marussia F1 Car

And the best item for sale is, of course, an F1 car. There are actually a few available, although they do not come with engines, unfortunately.
That's OK, though. Even if it did come with an engine, your local police officers probably would not be thrilled to see you driving this car down the street—not that they could catch you.
