AEW Dynamite Results, Winners, Live Grades and Highlights After Wrestle Dynasty 2025

Young Bucks returned at Dynasty 2025.
The Young Bucks returned in a shocking main event twist at Dynasty.

The April 9 edition of Dynamite promised major All Elite Wrestling fallout from Dynasty at the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena in Baltimore.

Swerve Strickland looked for some revenge against The Death Riders in one-on-one action against Pac. Would The Young Bucks appear again after attacking The Mogul at Dynasty?

Samoa Joe and Hook also took aim at The Death Riders in tag team action against Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta.

Meanwhile, Jon Moxley fought Katsuyori Shibata one-on-one in a non-title contest. Would The Opps pick up more momentum?

The women's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament continued with Kris Statlander vs. Thunder Rosa, while Toni Storm watched on commentary. Who would advance?

Will Ospreay, "Speedball" Mike Bailey, Mark Briscoe and Kevin Knight fought Ricochet, The Beast Mortos and CRU with $400,000 on the line.

The Hurt Syndicate celebrated another successful AEW Tag Team Championships victory. Would MJF make an appearance after helping the group retain?

Chris Jericho needed some TV Time after The Learning Tree's losses at Dynasty. What would he have to say?

This was certain to be a memorable night as AEW shifted its focus to Double or Nothing on May 25.

Jon Moxley (w/ Marina Shafir) vs. Katsuyori Shibata/Kenny Omega Threatens The Elite

Jon Moxley tried to bully Katsuyori Shibata, but he was unsuccessful. He instead went big, hitting a Piledriver and locking in a sleeper hold to win.

Matt and Nick Jackson came out afterward to the surprise of the AEW world champion. They said they did what they did for their friend, "Hangman" Adam Page, and The Death Riders as a peace offering to join the group.

Kenny Omega interrupted The Young Bucks to mock them before readying himself for a fight. Kazuchika Okada came out to threaten The Cleaner, but Swerve Strickland ran in with a steel chair.

The opening match was a solid showcase of what makes Moxley dangerous while also highlighting Shibata's unique ability in the ring.

It was a short contest, but The Wrestler outwrestled the champion. Mox dropped Shibata on his head, taking advantage of his injury history, to survive. It was smart and efficient in-ring storytelling.

As The Death Riders angle likely reaches its final stage on the road to All In, Mox's message is is somewhat obscured by his words, but the ultimate intention is clear: He wants the AEW roster to rally together to stop them.

The Opps have stepped up to challenge them next, but this is still a group that is outnumbered, especially with the Bucks potentially aiding Mox.

Meanwhile, the heavy hitters seem more interested rallying against the returning Elite, which seems more likely to get on The Death Riders' nerves than gain their support.

The way AEW moved from the match to The Young Bucks and Omega to Swerve worked so well in showcasing the various interesting stories at the top of AEW.

It was especially nice to see The Cleaner sell why he now needs to confront the men who tried to end his career last year.

Result

Mox def. Shibata by submission.

Grade

A

Notable Moments

—Mox opened the show with a declaration that the roster does not "want" this enough and warned The Young Bucks they are not ready for this war.

—Mox took a vicious chop from Shibata in the corner and tried to respond with chops of his own before admitting his disadvantage and going for boots instead.

—The crowd started a "Swerve's House" chant during The Young Bucks promo that went long enough to annoy Matt Jackson.

—Omega compared The Young Bucks to messy Shih Tzus, leading to a "dookie" chant.

—The Cleaner showed respect to Swerve before heading out.

Swerve Strickland vs. Pac

Swerve Strickland threatened The Young Bucks, but he could not finish his thought as Pac attacked him from behind.

While The Bastard found an early edge in this match, The Mogul fought back with vicious focus. He hit the House Call and Swerve Stomp to win.

This match ended more abruptly than expected. It looked like Pac landed badly on a Buckle Bomb, and the two men pushed right to the finish.

Hopefully, it was just a stinger, but nothing is certain. Pac deciding to finish the match could be a good sign but more likely just shows his toughness.

Ad Placeholder

Regardless of the circumstances, Swerve needed a big win, and he looked lethal in this match, bringing the fight to The Bastard even from an early disadvantage.

Result

Swerve def. Pac by pinfall.

Grade

No grade due to the uncertainty over the injury situation.

Notable Moments

—After a tough landing on a Buckle Bomb, Doc Sampson tried to check on Pac, who was favoring his right ankle.

—Swerve delivered his Young Bucks warning directly to the camera after the result.

—"Hangman" Adam Page charged past Renee Paquette to Swerve's locker room. He found Prince Nana, who he warned to stay out of his business in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. Nana tried to apologize, but The Cowboy refused.

$400,000 Explosive 8-Man Tag

While everyone got their shots in, Will Ospreay was the last man up, hitting a Hidden Blade to win himself, "Speedball" Mike Bailey, Mark Briscoe and Kevin Knight $100,000 each.

On the surface, this was a bout without a story, even with the money stipulation added. Beyond delivering great action, though, it also showed a crucial element for AEW's future.

The Aerial Assassin showed himself to be a capable leader, rallying his team to this victory. At each stage of this match, it was clear Ospreay was watching to protect his allies and help them win.

As Jon Moxley continues to question if AEW can rally a resistance to The Death Riders, Ospreay is setting the stage to not only challenge them but also bring a host of friends to support him in his fight.

While this may make the rest of the men's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament predictable, this story is the best answer to end The Death Riders' reign of terror.

Result

Ospreay, Briscoe, Bailey and Knight def. Ricochet, The Beast Mortos, Lio Rush and Action Andretti by pinfall.

Grade

B+

Notable Moments

—In pre-taped preview promos, Ricochet tried to call himself the leader of his group while Ospreay led a conversation on what each man would do with their money.

—Tony Schiavone called Ospreay the leader AEW needs at this time, possibly foreshadowing his road to All In.

—Ricochet tried to dive onto the babyfaces, but he missed. All four men then chopped him on the head.

MJF Gets the Thumbs Down from The Hurt Syndicate

MJF interrupted The Hurt Syndicate's celebration, acting like he was already a member of the group. Bobby Lashley started arguing with him until MVP intervened.

He advised The Salt of the Earth that he would only join The Hurt Syndicate if he got three thumbs up. Shelton Benjamin gave him a thumbs down.

This was a fun segment, sold by MJF and The All Mighty. Their veteran instincts sold this segment from the facial expressions to the back-and-forth squabbling.

At this point, the story could lead to MJF winning over the group or feuding with The Hurt Syndicate all the way to All In.

Either way, this is the best angle The Hurt Syndicate have delivered so far in AEW and has helped further integrate them onto the roster.

Grade

B

Notable Moments

—MJF walked up to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with The Hurt Syndicate, leading to a constant glare from Lashley.

—AEW recapped FTR's heinous attack on Cope followed by Schiavone scolding Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler for their actions.

—Penelope Ford warned the women's division that Megan Bayne would make everyone bow down, starting on Collision.

Owen Hart Foundation Tournament: Kris Statlander vs. Thunder Rosa

Toni Storm watched this battle closely on commentary as Kris Statlander survived the best shots of Thunder Rosa. She then hit the Staturday Night Fever to win.

This was a battle of two of the women's divisions stalwarts, and the right one pulled out the victory.

It was a solid showing, helped by the wild energy of Storm on commentary. She and Statlander are better friends than competitors, but they kept the energy high throughout.

Statlander remains a rising star in the division. While she lost big to Megan Bayne recently, she has enough credibility and talent to go all the way in the women's Owen.

Ad Placeholder

Rosa is struggling to establish herself at a world title level in this modern era, and a change may be needed to get there. A heel turn would be an interesting move.

Result

Statlander def. Storm by pinfall to advance in the women's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.

Grade

B

Notable Moments

—Storm had commentary rolling throughout with her lines about the women in the ring.

—Don Callis promised victory for his Family in the Owen and then offered a new opening in the group.

—Adam Cole talked up what it means to him to be TNT champion and then declared that more glory was coming for the Undisputed Kingdom in 2025.

Chris Jericho Says He Is Leaving Until The Learning Tree Does Not Disappoint Him

Big Bill cut off Chris Jericho to say he and Brian Keith were frustrated with the veteran treating them like punching bags.

The Learning Tree responded with the "I'm not mad, just disappointed" line before bashing a television monitor. He advised that he was leaving until Bill and Keith no longer disappointed him.

The gaslighting from Jericho was effectively evil in this moment, but it is hard to get excited about drama in The Learning Tree right now.

At this stage, this is a filler stable that is struggling to stand out and has lost the one title that made it relevant.

Bill and Keith have potential that could help them rise up the ranks. If this latest move allows them to do so, it would be a great development, helping them out of Jericho's shadow.

The best part of this segment was the promise that Jericho might take some time away, and possibly return with a refreshed perspective.

Grade

C-

Notable Moments

—Keith was not comfortable with Bill admitting he had complained about Jericho behind his back.

—Jericho smashed even more items on his way out of the arena.

—AEW highlighted Anthony Bowens' return and announced he would fight Blake Christian on Collision.

Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta vs. Samoa Joe and Hook

Hook was heavily isolated down the stretch, and Jon Moxley got involved to distract the referee.

However, Katsuyori Shibata caught Mox with a choke hold while Samoa Joe choked out Claudio Castagnoli outside. This left Hook alone to take out Wheeler Yuta with Redrum for the win.

The Death Riders attacked afterward, leaving Hook injured after sending him gut first into a steel chair. This only angered Joe, who warned the group that The Opps were taking the Trios Championships.

This was the least involved match of the night, basically showcasing Hook's resilience and the threat The Opps pose to the Trios champions.

This may not have needed to main-event, but it was an effective image to close the show with an angry Samoan Submission Machine promising retribution and violence upon The Death Riders.

As good as Swerve Strickland was in the build to his match with Moxley, no one has sold a promo on The Death Riders like Joe.

He made it clear why they should fear him and why he does not fear them, no matter how many Death Riders there are.

Result

Hook and Joe def. Yuta and Castagnoli by submission.

Grade

B

Notable Moments

—After Yuta knocked Joe off the apron, Castagnoli blasted Hook with a European uppercut followed by a Doomsday Device with Yuta for a near-fall.

Ad Placeholder

—Marina Shafir blasted Joe in the back of the leg with a chair, which kept Joe down just long enough for The Death Riders to take out Hook.

—The Swiss Superman blasted The Handsome Devil with a Neutralizer on a steel chair.

Overall Show

This was a night driven by energy over pure action, but it worked thanks to the talent involved.

The Death Riders were overrepresented across one episode, but it gave a strong structure to the night to sell The Opps as real threats to the champions.

The opening match into appearances from The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega and Swerve Strickland right into his battle with Pac was the hottest stretch of the show.

The $400,000 8-Man Tag was easily the best wrestling of the night and showcased some of AEW's recent standouts.

Kris Statlander and Thunder Rosa kept the excitement rolling for the women's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, even if the Collision matches are likely to be better.

The various promo segments across the night naturally moved forward the key stories from Dynasty.

Only The Learning Tree segment was a miss for the night, and that's an expected issue for AEW.

By the end of the night, it was clear Swerve and Omega are main characters for AEW's run to All In on July 12, and The Opps could be too much for The Death Riders.

Meanwhile, Jon Moxley and Toni Storm await the end of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament to build their world title programs.
