What If Trent Fails: The Bills' Quarterback Options

Since the preseason is only a week away, the Bills will need to name a starting quarterback soon. The most likely pick will be Trent Edwards. But what if Trent fails or gets injured? The Bills will be in a heated race to get a replacement. Here are some quarterbacks that the Bills might use, pursue, or trade up for.

Ryan Fitzpatrick did well last year, putting up a respectable 4-4 record while filling in for Edwards. He did have rough spots last season, throwing two picks against Houston, but did end off the season with three touchdowns. 

2009 stats: 1,422 yds, 9 TD, 10 INT, 69.7 quarterback rating

If Edwards goes down in the preseason, his 2010 stats as a starter would be:

2010 stats (Projected):  3,012 yds, 22 TD, 19 INT, 81.8 quarterback rating

Brian Brohm had a really bad NFL debut last year, throwing for two interceptions and no touchdowns. But he is still a good young quarterback who could succeed in the NFL.

2009 stats: 146 yds, 0 TD,  2 INT, 43.2 quarterback rating

If Trent went down, his 2010 stats as a starter would be:

2010 stats (Projected): 2,910 yds, 20 TD, 14 INT, 73.8 quarterback rating

Levi Brown was a seventh round draft pick this past year. He looked good at Troy.

If TRENT went down in the preseason:

2010 stats (Projected): 2,712 yards, 19 TD, 12 INT 76.12 quarterback rating

Jeff Garcia right now is an NFL free agent. He is one of 12 NFL quarterbacks ever to throw 30-plus touchdowns in two consecutive seasons, but that was in San Francisco in 2001-'02. He still has promise, as he showed when he led Tampa Bay to the playoffs in 2008.

If Trent went down in preseason:

2010 stats (Projected): 3,318 yds, 21 TD, 13 INT, 80.5 quarterback rating

Todd Collns was recently released by Washington in March as part of the Shanahan Movement. He played the best season of his career in 2007 when Jason Campbell went down in Week 13. In '07, he led the Redskins to four consecutive wins and 888 yards passing, 5 touchdown, no interceptions, and led them to the playoffs, earning him NFL Player of the Month.

2009 Stats: 144 yds, 0 TD, 0 INT, 71.3 quarterback rating

His 2010 stats if Trent went down in the preseason:

2010 stats (Projected): 3,512 yds, 24 TD, 11 INT

Daunte Culpeppers last great season was in 04 when he throw for 39 TD's but since then has not thrown for over 6TDs since then. He did well in the season finale as a lion last year throwing for 262 yds and 2 TD's. 

2009 stats: 945 yds 3 TD 6 int 64.8 quarterback rating

If Trent went down in Preseason.

2010 stats: (Projected)3,101 yds /20 TD/ 13 int /83.5 quarterback rating

Brian St.Peire has been a career back up since coming in 2003.  He always looks good in the preseason.

2009 stats: 12 yds 1TD 1int 53.6 quarterback rating

If Trent gets injured in the preseason.

2010 stats:(Projected) 2,834 yds 18 TDs 12 int 72.9 quarterback rating

Mike Vick  currently a eagle but could easily be traded.In the 2010 playoffs he threw a 76yd TD pass. He still has gas left in tank.

2009 stats: 86yds 1TD 0int 93.8 quarterback rating.
