Hours before the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII and the offseason formally began, the NFL rumor mill started to spin.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Sunday that the Philadelphia Eagles had granted edge-rusher Haason Reddick permission to seek a trade. ESPN's Tim McManus later added that "cap considerations and compensation will have to be right" for the Eagles to part with Reddick, one of their most valuable defensive players.

Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz reported Tuesday that Reddick never requested a trade and would like to stay with the Eagles. Reddick confirmed that report, although he acknowledged the realities of the business.

Schultz later noted that Reddick has one year left on his contract with no guaranteed money and said it's "certainly possible" that the Eagles will trade him this offseason. If they do, the big question is where he might land.

The potential landing spots we've chosen here are based on team need, cap space and trade assets.

Arizona Cardinals

Jonathan Gannon

Trade offer: Reddick for 2024 third-round pick (No. 66) and 2024 fourth-round pick (No. 104)

Yes, the Arizona Cardinals drafted Reddick with a 2017 first-round selection but watched him leave in free agency. That could, in theory, lead to a bit of discomfort on Reddick's end. However, the front office is different—and the coaching staff has a familiar face.

Last offseason, the franchise hired Jonathan Gannon as head coach after he'd coordinated the Philly defense for two years.

During the 2022 campaign, Reddick had a career-best 16 sacks and finished fourth in AP Defensive Player of the Year voting. There are plenty of reasons for him to entertain a reunion with both Gannon and the Cards.

Arizona, meanwhile, is desperately in need of a pass-rushing boost. Last year, the unit ranked 30th in sacks and 31st in pressure rate.

In addition to north of $30 million in effective cap space, the Cardinals have stockpiled 13 selections in the 2024 draft. Arizona has numerous options of how to package picks for an attractive offer.

Detroit Lions

Aidan Hutchinson

Trade offer: Reddick for 2024 second-round pick (No. 61) and 2025 fourth-round pick

Among the many fascinating questions of the offseason is whether the Detroit Lions are shifting to an all-in approach.

General manager Brad Holmes has carefully constructed the team to immense success. The franchise just rolled to its first division crown in 30 years and first appearance in the NFC Championship in 32 years.

But what happens now?

If the Lions embrace a Super Bowl charge, they could send the 61st overall pick as the main asset for Reddick. (Thanks to a previous trade, Detroit's next selection would only be 12 spots later at No. 73 anyway).

Detroit paced the NFL with a 28.2 pressure rate but ranked just 23rd in sacks with 41. Only two regular pass-rushers—edge Aidan Hutchinson (11.5) and defensive tackle Alim McNeill (5.0)—recorded more than two sacks.

Reddick would provide a massive boost to the defensive front, and the Lions have $40-plus million in space to accommodate him.

Houston Texans

Will Anderson Jr.

Trade offer: Reddick and 2024 sixth-round pick (No. 188) for 2024 second-round pick (No. 59) and 2024 fourth-round pick (No. 127)

Last year, the Houston Texans aggressively traded up to select Alabama edge-rusher Will Anderson Jr. at No. 3 overall. The move worked beautifully; he became a captain as a rookie and tallied seven sacks.

Houston just enjoyed a breakout season from Jon Greenard, who racked up 12.5 sacks—two more than his previous three-year career total. He's headed to free agency, though, and Greenard's inevitable raise compared to an extension for Reddick is a worthy discussion.

Should the resolution be pursuing Reddick, the Texans are undoubtedly capable of handling the price.

Houston has more than $50 million in cap space, along with an appealing second-round choice. If this trade happened, Philly would have four selections within the opening 60 picks of the draft.

Indianapolis Colts

Shane Steichen

Trade offer: Reddick for 2024 third-round pick (No. 82) and 2025 third-round pick

From a money and need perspective, the Indianapolis Colts are perfectly sensible for Reddick.

The franchise holds $54-plus million in space, and head coach Shane Steichen coordinated Philly's offense in 2021 and 2022. Additionally, the Colts finished fifth in sacks (51) last year but posted a more modest 19.6 pressure rate, which suggests a bit of regression may happen in 2024.

But it can't be perfectly simple, right?

Based on the compensation of these hypothetical offers, the Colts are a more awkward fit. The other suitors occupy spots late in Round 2 or early in Round 3; Indy sits in the middle and doesn't have extra picks.

Yes, every trade is a gamble. Still, the Eagles would be hoping Indianapolis does not dramatically improve in 2024 as young quarterback Anthony Richardson returns from an injury-shortened rookie year. Otherwise, that future third-rounder would be less appealing.

New England Patriots

Jerod Mayo
Jerod Mayo

Trade offer: Reddick for 2024 third-round pick (No. 68) and 2024 fourth-round pick (No. 103)

As a fresh era begins for the New England Patriots and new coach Jerod Mayo, the defense could use a pass-rushing jolt.

Last season, New England ranked 19th in pressure rate and 27th in sacks with 36. While the Pats' greatest weakness is the offense as a whole, it's still fair to suggest the defense must improve—especially if Josh Uche leaves in free agency, too.

The return of Matt Judon—who missed most of 2023 with a biceps injury—should help, but he's turning 32 this offseason and will be playing on an expiring contract. Reddick is two years younger.

Cap space isn't a problem for New England, which has nearly $60 million in room and could extend him quickly.

The challenge for the Pats is determining if Reddick would be a luxury addition on a rebuilding team or a catalyst for a defensive surge. If the former, they should make a cursory call and hang up. If the latter, New England could be bold and swing a pair of valuable picks for him.
