Super Bowl 2025 Box Score: Quarter-by-Quarter Breakdown of Chiefs vs. Eagles
Super Bowl 2025 Box Score: Quarter-by-Quarter Breakdown of Chiefs vs. Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl LIX winners after a dominant 40-22 victory that was nowhere near as close as the final score indicates.
The NFC champions dominated on defense, showed poise and explosivity on offense, and at one point, led by 34.
The Eagles stunted one of the great quarterbacks in postseason history, making Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense look mortal as they never allowed the AFC champs to get going.
The result was a one-sided game that was never in doubt but silenced all of Philadelphia's doubters.
Relive Sunday's game with this quarter-by-quarter breakdown of the game, including the key plays that resulted in the Eagles' second Super Bowl victory.
First Quarter

The first two drives of Super Bowl LIX ended with punts as the Eagles failed to do much with the opening kickoff after a controversial offensive pass interference call on AJ Brown negated a big downfield pass from Jalen Hurts.
The Chiefs started quickly with a first down from Patrick Mahomes to JuJu Smith-Schuster, but the drive bogged down, forcing a punt.
The Eagles scored the first points of the game on the second drive of the game as Hurts exploited the AFC champions' 18th-ranked pass defense and found Jahan Dotson downfield for 27 yards. Initially ruled a touchdown, it was overturned and Hurts punched it in from one yard out to give the Eagles the lead.

It was the first quarter's only score, as the Eagles' defense swarmed and frustrated Mahomes and the Chiefs' offense. Offensively, Philadelphia and Hurts found success through the air, potentially setting the stage for a scenario in which the quarterback passes his team to the Lombardi Trophy.
Defensively, Kansas City held Offensive Player of the Year Saquon Barkley in check, doing exactly what it had to to stunt the explosive Philly squad.
Second Quarter

Despite the playmakers and superstars on the other side of the ball, the Eagles' defense blew the game open in the second quarter, thanks to birthday boy Cooper DeJean's pick-six, which put his team up 17-0.
Moments earlier, the Eagles defense smothered Mahomes, sacking him twice. When the quarterback rolled out of the pocket, looking to make a play downfield via crossing route, he missed DeJean, who picked him off and returned it for a 38-yard touchdown.
When the Chiefs held Philadelphia, forcing a punt with under two minutes left in the half, it looked like they avoided potential disaster.
Then, Eagles punter Braden Mann pinned Kansas City inside the 10-yard line with a beauty of a 53-yard kick. From there, the defense wreaked havoc again, with Josh Sweat hurrying Mahomes into another interception, this time to linebacker Zach Baun.
Hurts paid the turnover off with a 12-yard touchdown to Brown, extending the Birds' lead to 24 points.

It was during this quarter that the game began to look eerily similar to the Chiefs' 31-9 loss to Tampa Bay in Super Bowl LV, where Mahomes found himself on the receiving end of a consistent pass rush that never allowed him to get comfortable, leading to his sole loss in the big game.
For Kansas City to avoid a second half of frustration, it became clear that they would have to find a way to score quickly and switch up protections to help Mahomes buy time and find receivers for first downs, of which the team had just one the entire first 30 minutes of the game.
Third Quarter

Facing the largest deficit of his entire starting career, Mahomes entered the second half with the ball and an opportunity to find a much-needed spark.
He did not as the Chiefs got to him two more times, sacking the three-time Super Bowl MVP and stunting any semblance of momentum the team garnered on only their second, first down of the game.
The Eagles took their first drive down the field, thanks to double-digit runs from Hurts and Barkley. A deep, 22-yard pass from the star quarterback to his dynamic running back set the team up in the red zone, where they added a Jake Elliott field goal to take a four-score lead at 27-0.
When Kansas City did move the ball with just over three minutes to go, a holding call on tackle Jawaan Taylor cost the team 10 yards. Despite Travis Kelce's first reception of the game, an eight-yarder, the drive bogged down and came to a screeching halt as Avonte Maddox broke up a quick out to DeAndre Hopkins.
Then, the potential dagger.
With everyone looking to Barkley to eat up some clock, Hurts instead uncorked a 46-yard touchdown to DeVonta Smith, extending the lead to 34-0.
The Chiefs advanced past midfield for the first time with a 50-yard Mahomes bomb to Xavier Worthy. A 13-yeard pass to Kelce preceded the first Chiefs score of the game as Mahomes again found Worthy, this time for 24 yards and a touchdown.

Why it took the team so long to get the ball in the hands of the fastest player in the game is likely a question the Chiefs will be asking well after the final whistle.
The two-point conversion failed, leaving it a four-score game at 34-6 entering the game's final quarter and what felt like an inevitable Eagles coronation.
Fourth Quarter

Hurts broke his record for rushing yards by a quarterback in a Super Bowl, crossing 72 with just over 10 minutes left in the game. It was the latest accolade for the often scrutinized quarterback who has now saved his best performances for the biggest stage. A field goal extended the lead to 37-6.
On the first play of the next Kansas City drive, Milton Williams exploded through the line and blasted Mahomes, delivering a strip sack and recovering the ball to add to the Philadelphia defensive dominance.
The Eagles added a field goal to cross the 40 barrier with just over eight minutes left.
The Chiefs moved the ball effectively in their final drive of the game, culminating in a touchdown from Mahomes to Hopkins and a successful two-point conversion to Justin Watson that brought the score to 40-14.
With the game in hand, Kenny Pickett entered at quarterback, joined by running back Kenneth Gainwell, and ran down the clock while Brown and Smith dowsed head coach Nick Siriani in the ceremonial Gatorade shower.
Mahomes added a garbage time, 50-yard touchdown to Worthy that left the rookie with eight catches for 157 yards and two scores. Again, the stunning lack of attempts to get the ball in his hands earlier in the game will remain one of the great "shoulda, couldas" of this game.
The final two minutes celebrated the utter dominance by an Eagles team that entered as the underdogs, ended any discussion of a three-peat early on, and never took their foot off the pedal.
They refused to allow Mahomes and Co. back into the game, shutting the offense down and putting an exclamation point on the game with the daring deep ball pass to Smith that ended things before the end of the third quarter.
It was one of the great performances from an organization on that stage, from the players on the field to the coaches on the sideline and in the box.
