After spending five months as a free agent, Phillip Lindsay is returning to the football field with the XFL's Seattle Sea Dragons.
Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the veteran running back has agreed to a deal with the Sea Dragons after being released by the Indianapolis Colts in November.
The addition of Lindsay comes as the Sea Dragons have been trying to find a No. 1 running back with injuries piling up in their backfield.
Quarterback Ben DiNucci has led the team in rushing yards in each of the past three games, including Friday's win over the Arlington Renegades.
Morgan Ellison, who ranks fourth in the XFL with 254 rushing yards, has missed the past two weeks with a knee injury. Brenden Knox hasn't played since Week 2 because of a foot injury.
The Sea Dragons haven't been hampered by their lack of running backs. They have won five consecutive games and are in second place in the North Division, trailing the undefeated D.C. Defenders (6-0).
Lindsay appeared in three games for the Colts last season. He had 49 rushing yards on 15 carries before being released from their practice squad on Nov. 10.
An undrafted free agent out of Colorado in 2017, Lindsay began his NFL career with the Denver Broncos. He had back-to-back seasons with at least 1,000 rushing yards and scored 17 total touchdowns in 31 games between 2018 and 2019.
After playing out the 2020 season in Denver, Lindsay signed with the Houston Texans as a free agent in March 2021. He appeared in 10 games for the Texans before being waived after Week 11.
The Miami Dolphins picked up Lindsay for the rest of the season. He had 38 carries in four games before becoming a free agent again.
In five NFL seasons, Lindsay has 2,848 rushing yards, 529 receiving yards and 20 total touchdowns in 59 games.
