Eagles Rumors: Haason Reddick Trade Expected Around NFL; Cardinals, Falcons Linked

After restructuring Josh Sweat's contract, the next major move for the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason will likely involve Haason Reddick.

Appearing on SportsCenter on Saturday morning, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported the expectation around the NFL is Reddick will eventually be traded, with the Arizona Cardinals and Atlanta Falcons cited as potential landing spots:

"The expectation leaguewide is that he is moved at some point. The Eagles went and spent on Bryce Huff, they re-signed Josh Sweat, so they have their two pass rushers. Reddick appears to be the odd man out. He does want a new deal, but this is a premier guy that should have value. He wants a new contract, plus the draft capital that it's going to take to get him. Arizona could be a team to watch because Jonathan Gannon was with him two years ago in Philly. They had good production together. Arizona needs pass rushers. Atlanta to an extent, so there should be teams in the mix."

There was some surprise on Super Bowl Sunday when NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the Eagles gave Reddick's camp permission to seek a trade.

Reddick later stated he never requested a trade and would like to sign an extension with Philadelphia, but he also understands the business side of things.

Along with questions about Reddick's future in Philadelphia, there were also rumblings Josh Sweat might be on the trade block. The Eagles ultimately were able to restructure Sweat's deal last week to keep him on the roster in 2024.

Both the Cardinals and Falcons make sense as a landing spot for Reddick if he does get traded. Arizona head coach Jonathan Gannon was Philadelphia's defensive coordinator for Reddick's first season with the club in 2022.

The Cardinals had the third-fewest sacks in the NFL last season (33) and had the fifth-worst pass-rush win rate, per ESPN.com. They have two first-round draft picks this year at No. 4 and 27 overall.

Given Reddick's age and contract status, it seems unlikely it would cost a first-round selection to acquire him from the Eagles. He spent the first four years of his NFL career in Arizona before signing a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers after the 2020 season.

The Falcons tied for 21st in sacks last year (42) and ranked last in ESPN's pass-rush win rate. They haven't had an individual player record at least 10 sacks in a season since Vic Beasley in 2016 (15.5).

Reddick is entering the final season of his three-year, $45 million contract signed in March 2022. He is owed $14.25 million in base salary with a $21.8 million cap hit. The 29-year-old has recorded at least 11 sacks in each of the past four seasons, including a career-high 16 in 2022.

Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Haason Reddick is reportedly a popular name at the NFL Scouting Combine this week as teams have already begun exploring ways to improve their roster before free agency opens next month.

Per Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, "teams have already reached out to the Eagles about" potentially trading for Reddick.

The 29-year-old is entering the final season of a three-year, $45 million contract he signed with Philadelphia as a free agent before the 2022 campaign. McLane noted that his unhappiness with his contract dates back to last offseason.

"Reddick never said he wanted a new deal last summer, but he had a 'quasi' holdout at the start of training camp, sources said, when he missed two days with a groin injury," McLane wrote. "And when he returned and was asked about his average annual salary vs. other edge rushers—he currently ranks 16th, per overthecap.com—he said, 'Y'all see it, y'all know what's going on.'"

This month, reports surfaced that Reddick had received permission from Philadelphia to seek a trade. However, he denied that notion:

Reddick recorded 11 sacks in 2023, his fourth straight season finishing with more than 10 sacks. While speaking to reporters at the combine, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman was coy about contract discussions, but he doled out massive praise for Reddick.

"I'd say this: Haason, obviously, an unbelievable player for the Philadelphia Eagles," Roseman said. "Local kid, great success story. Camden, Temple, Philly. Love having Haason. I think that anything you're trying to do, you're trying to blend what you're trying to do this year and what you're trying to do in the future. I think that's the hardest job. Don't want to get into any specifics with any conversations with players but have tremendous respect for the player and person."

Eagles' Nick Sirianni on Haason Reddick Trade Rumors: 'Hopefully He's an Eagle'

Two weeks after Haason Reddick received permission from the Philadelphia Eagles to seek a trade, head coach Nick Sirianni is speaking out about his hope to keep the two-time Pro Bowler.

Sirianni told reporters at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis he's unsure about how things will play out with Reddick, but "hopefully he's an Eagle" when all is said and done.

General manager Howie Roseman explained the Reddick rumors come from trying to blend "what you're trying to do this year" with "how you're going to look in the future," but praised him for being a valuable part of the defense.

In a surprise report on Super Bowl Sunday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said the Eagles granted Reddick's camp permission to seek a trade.

Reddick took to X to clarify he never asked the Eagles for a trade, but he understands "it's a business" that leads to some potentially difficult decisions.

The Eagles are projected to have nine picks in the 2024 NFL draft, including three of the top 53 selections. Trading Reddick would likely allow them to add to that total.

Reddick is entering the final season of a three-year, $45 million contract he signed with the Eagles as a free agent in March 2022.

The deal has worked out great for the Eagles. Reddick has recorded 27 sacks over the past two seasons, including a career-high 16 in 2022.

Philadelphia's cap is in good shape that it can afford to bring Reddick back in 2024. The team is currently $32.5 million under the cap. Jason Kelce, Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham are the club's key free agents. Kelce and Cox are rumored to be considering retirement, though neither has made an official announcement.

Graham has said he will retire after the 2024 season. In addition to potentially having to fill those roles on the roster if any or all of that group isn't back next season, the Eagles also need to add a lot of help on defense after that unit collapsed down the stretch in 2023.

Reddick's $21.4 million cap hit next season is the most expensive on the Eagles' roster. His $14.25 million base salary is also the richest on the team.

Eagles' Haason Reddick Never Requested Trade Amid Rumors, Seeks Contract Extension

Haason Reddick apparently doesn't want to leave the Philadelphia Eagles.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported on Bleacher Report that Reddick said he never requested a trade and "would like" to sign a contract extension with the Eagles.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday the Eagles granted Reddick permission to seek a trade. This led to some confusion that the 29-year-old may have requested a deal out of Philadelphia.

As Schultz noted, however, the Eagles simply informed Reddick's camp they could explore trade opportunities if they wanted to do so because he will be entering the final season of his contract in 2024.

There have been some rumblings about behind-the-scenes issues with the Eagles, though none of them seemed to involve Reddick.

A.J. Brown scrubbed all mentions of the team from his Instagram leading up to Philadelphia's NFC wild-card game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The star wide receiver was unable to play in that game due to a knee injury suffered in Week 18 against the New York Giants.

Marcus Hayes of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported on Jan. 1 that the Eagles' locker room was fractured, and Brown was called the source of the "locker room poison."

Brown denied the report, saying it was "bulls--t" and he didn't talk to the media after a Week 17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals because he "didn't want to be negative."

There is some optimism for the Eagles being able to get back on track next season. They revamped the coaching staff around head coach Nick Sirianni, including hiring Vic Fangio as defensive coordinator.

Reddick would seem like the type of player Fangio would love to have. His scheme has historically been predicated on having a dominant front four that allows him to drop seven into coverage.

One of the biggest criticisms of the Eagles' defense during their rough stretch to close the 2023 season is that Reddick was being asked to drop into coverage more frequently instead of rushing the quarterback.

The Eagles signed Reddick to a three-year, $45 million contract in March 2022. He has a $14.25 million base salary next season.

Since the start of the 2022 season, Reddick's 27.5 sacks are the third-most in the NFL. He's only behind the last two winners of the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award: Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns (30) and Nick Bosa of the San Francisco 49ers (29.0).

Eagles Rumors: Haason Reddick Allowed to Seek Trade Ahead of NFL Super Bowl 58

As the Philadelphia Eagles' defense prepares to undergo significant schematic changes with Vic Fangio taking over as defensive coordinator, Pro Bowl linebacker Haason Reddick could be looking for a change of scenery.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Eagles have granted Reddick permission to seek a trade as he is set to enter the final season of his contract in 2024.

Just because Reddick can seek a trade doesn't necessarily mean anything will happen. Darius Slay received permission to seek a trade last season before returning to the Eagles when no deal materialized.

The Eagles are in a tricky spot this offseason because they have plenty of talent to be a playoff contender again in 2024, but they are only projected to have $20.3 million in cap space.

Jason Kelce, Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham are among the key free agents for Philadelphia. Graham has said he intends to retire after next season, though it's unclear if he will be playing for the Eagles.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported after Philadelphia's 32-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Wild Card game that Kelce told teammates he was retiring. Kelce has since refuted that report, saying he hasn't made any decision about his future yet.

Cox has also been rumored to be considering retirement, but he is still evaluating his options.

Both Reddick and Josh Sweat are entering the final season of their contracts in 2024. Reddick led the Eagles in tackles for loss (13) and sacks (11) during the regular season. His 23 quarterback hits were tied with Sweat for most on the team.

If Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is going to prioritize one over the other, it would seem to be Sweat if only because he will be 27 next season and Reddick will turn 30 on Sept. 22.

Fangio will be the third different defensive coordinator the Eagles have had in the past three seasons. Jonathan Gannon left after the 2022 season to become head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. Sean Desai, who lost play-calling duties to Matt Patricia during the season, isn't returning. Patricia is also not being brought back.

The Fangio system doesn't historically rely on a lot of blitzes, so having a strong defensive front that gets after the quarterback is essential.

Reddick would have no problem fitting in, but his age and contract status might lead the Eagles to move on this offseason.
