Tyreek Hill Rumors: Dolphins 'Do Not Plan to Trade' WR After Apology

Bygones appear to be bygones for the Miami Dolphins and wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Sunday that the Dolphins "do not plan to trade" Hill this offseason (three-minute mark).

"It's early, it's always possible somebody makes the type of offer they can't refuse, but it sounds like right now everything is tracking toward the Cheetah staying in South Beach," he added.

While Hill is signed through the 2026 season, his future with Miami quickly became a topic after the season-ending loss to the New York Jets when he told reporters (2:25 mark), "I'm out. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, I gotta do what's best for my career, because I'm too much of a competitor to be just out there."

However, the tone was quite different this week during multiple media appearances ahead of the Super Bowl when Hill apologized to his teammates for the comments and said he took "full accountability" for his actions:

Both head coach Mike McDaniel and general manager Chris Grier previously said they met with Hill as well, which seemed to clear the path for him to stay with the Dolphins.

That is welcome news to Miami's chances at being competitive in 2025, as the eight-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro First-Team selection is not that far removed from his dominant 2023 season that saw him lead the league in both receiving yards (1,799) and touchdown catches (13).

His 2024 campaign wasn't as effective with 959 receiving yards and six touchdown catches, but quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was also limited to 11 games after playing all 17 in 2023.

Perhaps they can both remain healthy and lead the Dolphins to the playoffs in 2025.

Dolphins' Tyreek Hill: Noah Lyles 'Should Be Scared' to Face Me in 40-Yard Dash

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill claimed that American track and field sprinter Noah Lyles, the current world's fastest man after winning gold at last summer's Paris Olympics, "should be" scared to face him in a 40-yard dash.

Hill made his remarks on the Fantasy Football Happy Hour podcast with Matthew Berry (7:50 mark).

"Let's just keep a spade of spade," Hill began, when asked if there was a realistic chance he and Lyles could race. "Noah Lyles is scared."

When asked if Lyles should be scared of him in a 40-yard dash, Hill replied:

"I mean, yes. He should be. He should be, man, because when you think of a smaller stature guy like myself, I have great turnover.

"So my start is gonna be tremendous, versus his start. He's kind of a taller guy, so he needs time to build up his speed, you know.

"I'm really hoping for us to, you know, get a race going. My team obviously been talking to his team this whole entire offseason. They just told me to stay in shape, which is what I'm doing, like, as soon as our season was over with, I started working out.

"Like, I started training on the track, I started lifting weights, do what I gotta do, pulling sleighs. Whatever I gotta do, man, so I'm really looking forward to it, man."

The two have been talking trash of late.

Lyles had a message for Hill after winning the 60m at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix last Sunday. Hill had a quick response.

ESPN's Anthony Gharib provided a breakdown of their back-and-forth.

"Following the Paris Olympics in August, the Dolphins receiver said he would beat the gold medalist in a race, trolling Lyles. Hill encouraged Lyles to sign a contract for a 50-yard race," Gharib wrote.

"A month later, the track star said on SportsCenter that the two were in talks to run a 60-yard race. However, nothing has come to fruition yet."

After the win, Lyles had more words outside what he wrote on paper.

At this point, this is playing out like two boxers or MMA fighters talking trash through the media in a long, drawn-out process before their camps finally come to an agreement on a fight.

One can surmise this will happen at some point, but Hill and Lyles are certainly doing their part building up the hype and suspense for this race.

Video: Tyreek Hill Gives Tua Tagovailoa 'Public Apology' for Dolphins Exit Comments

Tyreek Hill generated plenty of headlines after the Miami Dolphins' 2024 season ended when he suggested his time with the team was done, but he took a far different approach Friday.

He even apologized to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for those past comments.

"Tua, he's my guy," Hill said during a discussion with Kay Adams. "Always will be my guy no matter what. I'm sure he understands my frustration, we all want to win. Tua, he's another competitor. He's a hell of a competitor. A lot of people don't know that. He's a winner, he's consistent. So, I'm looking forward to us continuing to build our relationship. … And this is my public apology to you, Tua."

Hill later doubled down on his apology, telling Pro Football Talk he's taking "full accountability" for his remarks:

This comes after Hill told reporters (2:25 mark) last month, "I'm out. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, I gotta do what's best for my career, because I'm too much of a competitor to be just out there."

While it seemed at the time that Hill may be done with the Dolphins, head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters the wide receiver accepted accountability when they met for one hour. What's more, general manager Chris Grier said Hill never requested a trade when they met.

The eight-time Pro Bowler also addressed his previous comments last month while streaming a video game, per ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques.

"What y'all had heard at the end of the season was frustration," he said. "I've been winning my whole life, bruh. Y'all don't understand, I bust my ass every day -- I deserve to feel like that, I deserve to have some kind of opinion. Y'all just want me to say, 'Oh well, get 'em next year?' Nah, f--k that. We've got to come back, we got to put some pressure on motherf--kers. Y'all got to fix this s--t, come on. Add some motherf--kin' dogs in this b---h. I compete, I love to compete, bruh."

At this point, it seems like Hill is staying put.

That would make sense, as he is under contract through the 2026 campaign and still a top playmaker for a Dolphins team looking to bounce back after what was a frustrating season.

Miami went 8-9 and missed the playoffs after reaching the past two postseasons. Tagovailoa was limited to 11 games with injuries, and Hill failed to reach the 1,000-yard mark with 959 receiving yards.

It was a far cry from when he led the league with 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdown catches during the 2023 campaign.

Tagovailoa was able to stay healthy and appeared in all 17 games during that 2023 season, which is one reason Hill put up those numbers. And it appears their relationship is still intact given the receiver's latest apology and comments, and they will have the chance to bounce back in 2025 and beyond.

McCaffrey, Mahomes, Hurts, Parsons Lead Top 10 NFL Jersey Sales in 2024-25 Season

Christian McCaffrey had a 2024 season to forget thanks to injuries, but there is no questioning his popularity.

Lids revealed the top selling jerseys for the season on Tuesday, and the San Francisco 49ers running back topped the list. Considering he was also on the cover of Madden NFL 25, McCaffrey was quite visible during the 2024 campaign even though he appeared in just four games.

Here is a look at the list of top sellers that saw Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, Micah Parsons and Tyreek Hill round up the top five:

  1. Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers
  2. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs
  3. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles
  4. Micah Parsons, Dallas Cowboys
  5. Tyreek Hill, Miami Dolphins
  6. C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans
  7. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens
  8. Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings
  9. T.J. Watt, Pittsburgh Steelers
  10. Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers

While there were more McCaffrey jerseys sold in total, Lids revealed that Mahomes was the best-selling jersey in the highest number of states (13). His Super Bowl counterpart in Hurts was the highest-selling one in 13 states last year but only led four this year.

Even with Mahomes and Hurts moving jerseys on the way to the Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles fell short of the 49ers in the race to be the top-selling team in gear.

At least the Eagles can take solace knowing they outsold the Pittsburgh Steelers in Pennsylvania and the New York Giants and New York Jets in New Jersey.

And they also have the opportunity to set the table for plenty of jersey sales for the upcoming season if they take care of business in Sunday's Super Bowl against Mahomes and the Chiefs.

The Super Bowl bump is clearly real, as two 49ers players were in the top 10 alongside Mahomes after they faced each other in last year's battle for the Lombardi Trophy.

A Super Bowl title would be Philadelphia's first since the 2017 season. The excitement that would come from that combined with the sheer star power on the roster with Hurts, Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, among others, would likely lead to plenty of jersey sales.

Maybe even enough to overcome the 49ers in overall sales next year.

After winning the 60-meter final at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix on Sunday, Noah Lyles had a message for Miami Dolphins star receiver Tyreek Hill.

Lyles celebrated his victory by pulling out a note that said, "Tyreek could never," and holding it over his face:

Both Lyles and Hill had challenged each other to a race following Lyles' success at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Lyles reiterated his desire to get a date set for their marquee one-on-one matchup.

"When you're ready to actually put some words down and you're actually ready to race, see me," Lyles said of Hill, per Nick Zaccardi of NBC Sports. "I'm right here. I ain't going nowhere. But all I know is, your football season's over. You ain't got no excuse now."

Hill later posted a response to Lyles, laughing off his call-out without indicating if he's interested in a race or not:

Per Zaccardi, Hill competed in his first track meet in nine years at the 2023 USA Track and Field Masters Indoor Championships and ran a 6.70 in the 60m. Lyles' personal best is 6.43.

Hill and Lyles would surely draw a massive audience if they were to meet for a race, and the ball is now in Hill's court to answer Sunday's challenge.

Tyreek Hill: 'Frustration' Led to 'I'm Out' Comments After Dolphins Season Ended

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill said his viral "I'm out" comments following the end of last season were the product of "frustration."

Hill spoke about the matter to his viewers while streaming a video game, per ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques.

"What y'all had heard at the end of the season was frustration," Hill said.

Hill previously told reporters he was frustrated and "out" after the 8-9 Dolphins' season ended with a 32-20 road loss to the New York Jets on Jan. 5.

"I'm out, bruh," Hill told assembled media. "It was great playing here but at the end of the day, I have to do what's best for my career."

Hill is on a restructured $90 million deal with Miami that runs through 2026.

It was a frustrating season for Hill and the Dolphins to say the least, perhaps boiling over from a tough end to the 2023 campaign.

Miami was one win away from earning the AFC's No. 2 seed last year but fell to the Buffalo Bills in Week 18. That meant a road date with the Kansas City Chiefs instead of a home game against those same Bills in the AFC Wild Card round. Miami lost 26-7 at Kansas City in freezing cold temperatures, ending a once-promising season that saw the team finish second in scoring.

In 2024, Miami lost starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to a concussion for four-plus games and a hip injury for two more. The offense never really got going all year, finishing 22nd in scoring. Hill, who led the NFL with 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns in 2023, had 959 yards and six scores in 2024.

The five-time First Team All-Pro selection enjoyed six great seasons with the Chiefs before landing in Miami before the 2022 season, winning two AFC titles and one Super Bowl during his tenure there. He's found team success in Miami, albeit not as much, with just two playoff appearances (and no wins) to show for it.

The Super Bowl appears further away now after a tough year in town, and perhaps the frustrations of a lost year got the best of Hill at that late-season moment. It seems like he's in a better spot now with time to reflect and distance from the lost year, though, as the Dolphins look to bounce back in 2025.

NFL Exec Predicts Tyreek Hill Trade to Patriots from Dolphins, Calls NE 'Desperate'

Tyreek Hill's future with the Miami Dolphins was a talking point following his comments after the team's season-ending loss to the New York Jets, and one NFL executive believes he could be suiting up for the New England Patriots in 2025.

"The Patriots are desperate. They need a guy, that alpha that can be friendly for Drake Maye," someone in personnel for an NFC team said in a Tuesday piece by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. "And there's a higher chance of the draft picks [Miami would receive in a trade] being higher than with a contender."

The speculation comes after Hill turned heads after the loss to the Jets by saying he's "out" while seemingly expressing his preference to leave Miami:

Dolphins general manager Chris Grier told reporters he met with the receiver and clarified Hill never asked for a trade. Head coach Mike McDaniel also told reporters he met with Hill and came away believing the receiver accepted his accountability when it was "unacceptable to leave a game and won't be tolerated in the future."

Comments from Grier and McDaniel suggested Hill will be in Miami next season, especially since he is still under contract through the 2026 season.

Still, the team would surely be open to changing its mind if the right offer came along. But that offer would likely need to be even more significant from the Patriots than another team since they are AFC East rivals.

From New England's perspective, trading for a superstar receiver would make plenty of sense.

After all, the franchise's best chance to compete for playoff spots in the coming seasons under new head coach Mike Vrabel is by Maye living up to his potential. Having an eight-time Pro Bowler and five-time First-Team All-Pro selection like Hill would help the quarterback do just that.
