Mikaela Shiffrin Reveals PTSD from Crash; Decides Not to Defend Skiing Worlds Title

Skiing legend Mikaela Shiffrin will not defend her gold medal in the giant slalom at the Alpine skiing world championships as she continues her recovery from a November crash in Killington, Vermont.

The 29-year-old told the Associated Press in an audio message Monday that she is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

"I'm mentally blocked in being able to get to the next level of pace and speed and putting power into the turns," Shiffrin said, per Andrew Dampf of the AP. "And that kind of mental, psychological like PTSD-esque struggle is more than I anticipated.

"I figured once we touched ground in Europe and we got a chance to get some repetitive training days, I would be able to improve step by step and sort of the passion and the longing for racing was going to outweigh any fear that I had."

The PTSD comes after she suffered "a deep puncture wound" in the giant slalom crash, which injured her oblique muscles and was, in her own words, "a millimeter from pretty catastrophic."

The United States Ski and Snowboard team provided an update the day after the crash and said she was hospitalized with the puncture wound and "severe muscle trauma" and did not suffer any damage to her ligaments, bones or internal organs.

Shiffrin is the reigning world champion in giant slalom thanks to her victory in France two years ago.

She also took to Instagram and explained, "Right now, I feel quite far away. I'm currently working through some mental obstacles in order to return to the GS start with the intensity required for racing. … Coming to terms with how much fear I have doing an event that I loved so dearly only 2 months ago has been soul-crushing."

However, there was a silver lining for Shiffrin, who celebrated the opportunity to participate in the Team Combined race because she is not competing in the giant slalom.

She was paired with downhill gold medalist Breezy Johnson for the team event.

Shiffrin finished in 10th place in slalom—which does not feature the same speed and danger level as giant slalom—when she returned to action in January for the first time since her crash.

She also plans on competing in slalom at worlds.

Shiffrin is arguably the greatest skier of all time as a two-time Olympic gold medalist, one-time Olympic silver medalist and seven-time world champion with a resume that also includes 99 World Cup wins. That makes here the winningest skier in history.

WWE Rumors on LA Knight, Drew McIntyre, Wyatt Sicks and Latest Roster Cuts

Bleacher Report catches you up on the latest news from the WWE Universe.

McIntyre, Knight Reportedly Moving Past Royal Rumble Controversy

There reportedly aren't any hard feelings between Drew McIntyre and LA Knight despite a miscommunication between them at the Royal Rumble and a subsequent segment they were involved in together on SmackDown.

According to Fightful Select (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), there is no real tension between McIntyre and Knight coming out of the Rumble and their match on SmackDown.

During the late stages of the men's Royal Rumble match, McIntyre was eliminated by Damian Priest, but it came across somewhat clunky since Knight and Logan Paul appeared to overlap into the spot when battling each other.

PWInsider.com (h/t Carrier) reported last week that McIntyre was "screaming and cursing" backstage after the spot went awry and said "someone had to get their moves in" rather than allowing his elimination the spotlight it required.

McIntyre reportedly "stormed out of the building" before the men's Rumble ended, leaving many to speculate on where things stood between McIntyre, Knight and WWE as a whole.

Per PWInsider Elite (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats) it was later confirmed that McIntyre was primarily unhappy with Knight because he felt Knight's "errant movement killed the drama and momentum" of his elimination, which was meant to be the start of a rivalry with Priest.

On SmackDown, prior to an Elimination Chamber qualifying Triple Threat match between Knight, McIntyre and Jimmy Uso, Knight seemed to humorously allude to McIntyre's tirade, saying it was okay to cry and noting that he had to "get his stuff in."

Although there were some moments in the subsequent match where McIntyre and Knight appeared to lay some punches in on each other, Fightful noted that there were no issues afterward despite the added physicality.

McIntyre won the match to qualify for the Chamber match, and he will now set his sights on trying to earn a world title match at WrestleMania 41.

Bo Dallas Injury Reportedly Behind Wyatt Sicks Absence

The Wyatt Sicks have been off WWE programming for several weeks, and it reportedly may be due to a key member currently dealing with an injury.

According to PWInsider.com's Mike Johnson, Bo Dallas (aka Uncle Howdy) was not in Indianapolis for Royal Rumble weekend despite the other Wyatt Sicks members being present to take part in photo ops with fans.

Johnson noted that Dallas was never scheduled to be in Indianapolis and he "isn't currently on the road for the company."

It was previously reported by Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News) that the Wyatt Sicks' on-screen absence may have been due to one member being injured.

The Wyatts last competed in a match on the Dec. 9 episode of Raw when Final Testament members Karrion Kross and AOP along with The Miz beat Dallas, Dexter Lumis, Joe Gacy and Erick Rowan in an eight-man tag team match.

Since then, it was announced that the Wyatt Sicks moved from Raw to SmackDown, and the Final Testament has disbanded due to the reported release of AOP and Paul Ellering.

The Wyatt Sicks debuted in June 2024 with Dallas playing the role of the leader Uncle Howdy. The group is a tribute to the late Bray Wyatt, who was Dallas' real-life brother.

While future plans for the Wyatt Sicks once Dallas is healthy are unclear, they could potentially include Alexa Bliss.

PWInsider.com (h/t Carrier) reported last month that original plans called for Bliss to return on an episode of Raw as part of an angle with the Wyatt Sicks, however, those plans were put on hold.

Bliss did return in the women's Royal Rumble match, though, and she is seemingly part of SmackDown now, as she beat Candice LeRae in an Elimination Chamber qualifying match on Friday's show.

Since Bliss worked closely with Wyatt in the past, it would make sense for her to either join or contest the Wyatt Sicks in the near future.

Reported Reason for Recent WWE Releases

WWE reportedly released several main roster Superstars on Friday and Saturday, and the company did so for a specific purpose.

According to Fightful Select (h/t Carrier), NXT sources believe the cuts were made in order to make room on the main roster for several Superstars who are poised to get called up from NXT in 2025.

Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp reported that WWE parted ways with Sonya Deville, Cedric Alexander, Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, Blair Davenport, Giovanni Vinci, Isla Dawn, Paul Ellering and AOP's Akam and Rezar.

Alexander was the only wrestler from that list who had been in NXT rather than on the main roster, but he had a lengthy main roster run before getting moved to NXT.

The majority of those who were released were either used sparingly or not at all on WWE programming over the past few months.

Perhaps the only exceptions to that are Deville, who was often on Raw as the leader of Pure Fusion Collection, and AOP who were part of the Final Testament stable with Karrion Kross.

While the crop of released Superstars were all talented and likely could have benefited from better usage, it is also true that there is only enough television time for so many people, particularly if plans are in place for call-ups in the near future.

In recent years, WWE has typically held a draft shortly after WrestleMania, and multiple Superstars tend to make the move from NXT to Raw or SmackDown as part of the draft.

Big-time prospects such as Roxanne Perez and Trick Williams could be in line for a call-up coming out of WrestleMania, and if that is the case, the releases may have created more room and opportunities for them to shine.

The Philadelphia Eagles completed one of the most comprehensive Super Bowl victories in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl 59.

The fourth quarter, though, was the lowest-scoring period for the Eagles inside the Superdome in New Orleans.

The Kansas City Chiefs outscored the Eagles in the fourth quarter, but it was far too little, too late for Patrick Mahomes and Co. to stage a comeback.

Xavier Worthy and DeAndre Hopkins caught touchdown passes from Mahomes to make the final score look a bit more respectable for the Chiefs.

Super Bowl 59 Box Score

Kansas City - 0 0 6 16 - 22

Philadelphia - 7 17 10 6 -40

The Eagles added to their advantage with two Jake Elliott field goals in the fourth quarter.

Elliott knocked in field goals from 48 and 50 yards to open up the lead to 34 points.

Kansas City answered back late in the fourth quarter with a seven-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes to DeAndre Hopkins.

The Chiefs' offense took one more shot late in the fourth quarter, as Mahomes hit Xavier Worthy down the middle for a 50-yard touchdown catch.

Worthy finished with the most receiving yards in the Super Bowl. He was the only player on either team with more than 70 receiving yards. He had 157 yards and two touchdowns on eight catches.

DeVonta Smith was the Eagles' top pass-catcher with 69 yards on four catches. A.J. Brown chipped in 43 receiving yards of his own.

The Eagles won without an incredibly effective game out of Saquon Barkley, who had 57 yards on 25 carries. He did have six catches for 40 yards.

Philadelphia's defense forced three turnovers. one of which was a Cooper DeJean pick six, to open up the advantage and stay in front for the entire game.

The Philadelphia Eagles extended their Super Bowl 59 advantage in the third quarter against the Kansas City Chiefs.

However, Patrick Mahomes and Co. finally got on the board at the end of the period on a touchdown pass to Xavier Worthy.

Philadelphia appeared to close the door on the Chiefs with a touchdown pass of its own from Jalen Hurts to DeVonta Smith.

The Eagles head into the fourth quarter with a 34-6 advantage and the ball after KC's late third-quarter score.

Updated Super Bowl 59 Score

Kansas City 0 0 6 - 6

Philadelphia 7 17 10 - 34

The Eagles broke their lead open to 34 points on DeVonta Smith's 46-yard touchdown reception from Hurts.

For the first time in Super Bowl 59, Kansas City found an answer to the Eagles' dominant play with a quick drive down the field.

Xavier Worthy caught a 24-yard pass in the end zone two minutes and six seconds after Smith flew into the end zone.

Worthy had two big catches on Kansas City's first scoring drive, and thanks to those long receptions, he is the game's leading receiver going into the fourth quarter.

Worthy has four catches for 83 yards. Smith is second to Worthy on the game receiving chart with 69 yards from four receptions.

The two biggest offensive stars in the game, Saquon Barkley and Travis Kelce, have been contained through three quarters.

Barkley has 18 carries for 47 yards, while Kelce has two catches for 22 yards. Both of Kelce's catches came in the third quarter.

The Eagles' second interception of Mahomes came from a diving Zack Baun inside the Philadelphia 20-yard-line.

Philadelphia's first score of the second quarter came on a 48-yard field goal from Jake Elliott.

The Eagles are in complete control of the championship tilt with a 179-23 advantage in total yards.

Dotson emerged as the surprise leading pass-catcher of the first quarter. He hauled in two receptions for 42 yards. Dallas Goedert is the only other player with 20 or more receiving yards.

The Eagles totaled 115 total yards across three drives, one of which extended into the second quarter.

Before Super Bowl 59 kicked off, the 21st annual Puppy Bowl took place on Sunday.

Team Fluff secured its status as champions once again, defeating Team Ruff by the final score of 68-66. The victory marks Team Fluff's third win in four years after Team Ruff won the 2024 Puppy Bowl.

Paws Allen, a Labrador Retriever mix, scored a last-second touchdown to clinch the victory for Team Fluff.

A silver lining for Team Ruff was the Most Valuable Puppy winner, with Foxtrot taking home MVP honors. The Border Collie mix started the scoring with an early touchdown and almost helped Team Ruff pull off an impressive victory.

The 2025 Puppy Bowl didn't disappoint, featuring energized action throughout the contest from the puppies.

One exception to the intense game was Mercury, with the Great Pyrenees Maremma Sheepdog-mix taking home an Underdog Award win by relaxing on the field while the event took place.

Puppy Bowl XXI featured 142 puppy players from 80 shelters and rescues across 40 states and two countries. The event also included 11 special needs puppies including Jolene, an American Pit Bull Terrier-mix who competed in a wheelchair, as well as Sprinkle, a blind and hearing-impaired Australian Shepherd-mix.

As fans waited for Sunday's clash between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles to commence, the Puppy Bowl continued to provide entertainment leading up to the NFL's title game.
