HEIGHT: 6'3"

WEIGHT: 314

HAND: 10½"

ARM: 35¼"

WINGSPAN: 83⅜”

40-YARD DASH: 5.11

VERTICAL: 29"

BROAD: 9'4"

POSITIVES

— Good size with a thick build and great arm length. Impressive athleticism and quickness for his size, too.

— Decent at timing up the snap and has good acceleration off the ball to get penetration with his get-off.

— When he keeps his pads down and shoots his hands, he has plenty of upper body strength to stand up interior offensive linemen and lock them out to get great extension on blocks with his long arms.

— Can make tackles with offensive linemen hanging onto him.

Ad Placeholder

— Has the strength and size to be an effective bull rusher when he keeps his pads down and shoots his hands.

— Flashed solid swim and cross-chop moves as a pass rusher.

— High motor effort player who will get coverage sacks and factor into gang tackles.

NEGATIVES

— Often plays with high pad level/stands up out of his stance.

— Has wide hand placement as a run defender, exposing his chest to offensive linemen and making it difficult to consistently take advantage of his long arms. Also impacts his ability to disengage from blocks.

Ad Placeholder

— Struggles to stay in his gap against double teams due to the two factors mentioned above and playing with a narrow base.

— Lacks some rotational strength to keep his shoulders square and avoid getting reached or scooped.

— Sub-par pad level also hurts his ability to consistently be effective with a bull rush.

— Often late with his hands as a pass-rusher and struggles to work the offensive lineman's hands.

NOTES

— A 3-star recruit in the 2020 class, per 247Sports

— Injuries: 2023 (Thumb, offseason surgery, missed bowl game and 2024 spring practice), 2024 (Undisclosed, limited in 1 game)

— 2022: Honorable Mention Freshman All-American; All-ACC Academic Team

Ad Placeholder

— 2023: Second-Team All-ACC; All-ACC Academic Team

— 2024: Honorable Mention All-ACC, Fourth-Team All-ACC

OVERALL

Ad Placeholder

Joshua Farmer has many traits that NFL teams covet. He has good size with very long arms and impressive quickness and lateral movement skills. That gives him a high ceiling at the next level.

Ad Placeholder

Farmer stands out the most as a run defender. When he shoots his hands straight from the ground, he's hard to move with one-on-one blocks and has plenty of upper-body strength to lock out offensive linemen and take advantage of those long arms. Also, he can get penetration when slanting with his quickness and agility.

However, the Florida State product has a tough time staying in his gap against double teams and combo blocks. His pad level and hand placement are inconsistent which exposes his chest, and he takes on blocks with a narrow base. He also doesn't anticipate double-teams well.

As a pass-rusher, Farmer wins in flashes rather than being a consistent producer. His sub-par pad level reduces the effectiveness and consistency of his bull rush and he's often late with his hands. Additionally, he could afford to mix up his pass-rush plan more often as he tries to bullrush too regularly. He's shown solid cross-chop and swim moves and has the athleticism to put together a few finesse moves but rarely uses them.

Overall, Farmer has the profile of someone who could be a good NFL interior defensive lineman but may need some time to develop. That could cause him to get drafted higher than expected if a team is willing to bet on his traits. Schematically, he has some position versatility after lining up everywhere from a nose tackle to a 3-technique in college.

HAND: 10"

ARM: 32⅜”

WINGSPAN: 78"

40-YARD DASH: 4.58

SHUTTLE: 4.21

BROAD: 10'2"

POSITIVES

— Athlete with long arms and a good frame. Uses his length well in both run and pass game.

— Shows very good body control for his size, with the ability to judge the ball's flight path and ball skills to display great timing through the catch point.

— Willing tackler who triggers quickly. Physical in the run game close to the line of scrimmage and is efficient as a blitzer.

NEGATIVES

— Too often takes poor angles when approaching ball-carriers, giving up his leverage leading to big plays.

Ad Placeholder

— Allows free releases in press, while often looking to slingshot back into position.

— Has lacked turnover production over his career.

2024 STATISTICS

Azareye'h Thomas is an intriguing cornerback prospect from Florida State who combines impressive length and size with promising physical tools. At 6'2" and 198 pounds, Thomas has the prototypical frame for an NFL cornerback, utilizing his long arms and body control to disrupt plays in coverage and compete in the run game. While still developing in some areas of his game, Thomas' physicality, ball skills, and athleticism make him a versatile option for teams seeking a boundary defender with upside.

Ad Placeholder

Thomas' length and body control are standout traits in coverage, particularly when contesting passes. He can track the ball in flight, using his size and timing to break up passes at the catch point. His physicality allows him to challenge receivers at the line of scrimmage and disrupt their timing. However, his press technique remains inconsistent, with occasional free releases that force him into recovery mode. Additionally, Thomas can be overly handsy when trailing in coverage, risking penalties at the next level. At the same time, he shows adequate speed when in phase; his ability to close ground and recover when out of position is less refined, limiting his effectiveness against quicker, more explosive receivers. His overall turnover production has also been lacking despite his ball skills.

Thomas brings a physical approach to the run game, where his willingness to trigger downhill and take on blocks stands out. He excels when close to the line of scrimmage, showcasing aggression and efficiency when blitzing or disrupting outside runs. His tackling mechanics are solid, with a tendency to wrap and secure ball carriers. However, Thomas' ability to maintain leverage is inconsistent, as he occasionally takes poor angles that allow runners to exploit gaps. Improving his awareness and reaction speed in run defense will be key for him to maximize his impact at the next level.

Azareye'h Thomas projects as a mid-round pick with the potential to develop into a starting outside cornerback in the NFL. Though he has shown decent man skills; his size, length, and physicality make him an appealing fit for press and zone-heavy schemes, where his ability to disrupt routes and contest passes will be maximized. While his technique and consistency in both the run and pass games need improvement, Thomas' athletic traits and competitive mentality provide a solid foundation for growth. With refinement, he has the potential to become a valuable contributor in an NFL secondary.

DJ Uiagalelei Declares for 2025 NFL Draft; QB Played for FSU, Oregon State, Clemson

Ford Stadium in Dallas, TX. (Photo by Matthew Visinsky/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images)

DJ Uiagalelei is going to try his luck at the next level.

The Florida State quarterback announced on social media Monday that he intends to declare for the 2025 NFL draft.

DJ Uiagalelei spent three seasons at Clemson, a season at Oregon State and rounded out his collegiate career with the Seminoles this year.

Uiagalelei threw for 9,384 passing yards, 61 touchdowns and 30 interceptions over the course of his career and picked up another 1,124 yards and 21 touchdowns on the ground.

He had the best season of his career in 2023 with the Beavers, throwing for 2,638 passing yards and seven touchdowns while rushing for 219 yards and six touchdowns. A coaching change led him to transfer and he landed with Florida State.

There were high expectations for the Seminoles after posting a big 2023 season and landing a talented quarterback out of the transfer portal, but things did not go as planned in Tallahassee.

Uiagalelei played just five games before injuries derailed his season. In his five appearances, he threw for 1,065 yards, four touchdowns and six interceptions, leading the Seminoles to just one win. Florida State ended the year 2-10 after going 13-1 in 2023.

Though Uiagalelei hopes the next stop in his career is the NFL, he also has another sport to fall back on. The Los Angeles Dodgers selected Uiagalelei in the 20th round of the MLB draft in 2023, citing his high school baseball experience as their reasoning.

"Honestly, he could have been a top-couple-round guy if he stuck with baseball," Dodgers area scouting supervisor Jonah Rosenthal said, per MLB.com's Sarah Wexler. "But he became a five-star quarterback, and coming to Clemson, when you have that status, I mean, you obviously run with the football."

Perhaps he will give baseball another shot if he doesn't find his place in the NFL.

Mike Norvell Gives FSU $4.5M in Restructured Contract for 'Vision of Excellence'

Florida State head coach Mike Norvell is handing $4.5 million back to the school as part of a one-year contract restructure, the school announced on Monday.

Norvell released a statement on the decision:

I presented this to our administration in an effort to boost the support of our student-athletes while recognizing that the results and expectations need to be upheld to the highest level. I wanted to be proactive in my financial assistance through this time of transition as we all push forward to get back to the standard of Florida State football. Great days are ahead, and I'm grateful to coach these players and lead this staff. We have been hard at work to uphold the tradition here at Florida State, and I believe this step will help accelerate the process to where I know we are going.

Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger first reported the details:

The contribution is part of the school's new Vision of Excellence campaign intended to raise money as schools gear up to share revenue directly with athletes under the new House settlement agreement. The settlement permits each school in Division I to share at least $20.5 million with their athletes starting on July 1.

That's nearly half of Norvell's yearly salary. At $10 million, he's the sixth-highest-paid coach in the FBS among the schools with publicly available data, per USA Today.

Even more so than with the advent of the transfer portal and NIL, revenue sharing in college sports will be a paradigm-shifting development. For those at the top of the pyramid, raising the funds and finding the optimal way to distribute cash is imperative toward maintaining a competitive edge.

Having head coaches devote a portion of their salary for revenue sharing could become a regular feature. Beyond being a quick way to boost the spending pool, it can make a coach look like a more player-first leader if the cash is being funneled directly back into the roster.

In Norvell's case, it's probably not a coincidence that this also is coming after a bitterly disappointing 2024 season.

Florida State went from 13-0 in the 2023 regular season to finishing 2-10. A year on from being the toast of Tallahassee, Norvell could be plausibly coaching for his job in 2025. Hiring Gus Malzahn as offensive coordinator was a sign of the general urgency around the team.

The decline had an impact on the Seminoles' recruiting as well. They sit 20th in 247Sports' composite team rankings for 2025, which isn't too bad all things considered, but they had nine 4-star prospects decommit during this cycle.

Monday's news is some good PR when Florida State needs it and makes for a great sales pitch for Norvell.

Thomas Castellanos Transfers to FSU; QB Entered Transfer Portal After 2 Years at BC

Former Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos has officially signed with Florida State, the school announced on Friday.

Castellanos told On3's Hayes Fawcett about the transfer on Wednesday and had already celebrated the news on social media.

Head coach Mike Norvell celebrated Castellanos' transfer by calling him "one of the most dynamic players in college football."

After beginning his college career at UCF, Castellanos started for two seasons at BC. He left the Eagles in November after losing the QB1 spot to backup Grayson James.

Following struggles with pass accuracy early in the 2024 season, Castellanos' last outing for the Eagles came during a Nov. 9 win over Syracuse.

After going 2-for-7 for 14 yards with a touchdown and an interception, Castellanos was benched by BC head coach Bill O'Brien.

O'Brien then named James the starter ahead of the following weekend's contest against SMU, telling reporters at the time that Castellanos was "taking a couple days" away from the team. Castellanos announced his intent to transfer two days later.

He will reunite at Florida State with Gus Malzahn, who departed from his role as UCF's head coach in November to serve as offensive coordinator for Norvell. Malzahn previously led Castellanos during his freshman season with the Knights.

Castellanos is now set to once again return to a QB1 role with the Seminoles, who are looking for an answer under center after quarterback struggles contributed to the team's 2-10 finish to the 2024 season.

DJ Uiagalelei, who transferred from Oregon State as a prospective starter for the Seminoles this season, was benched after five games in favor of redshirt freshman Brock Glenn and freshman Luke Kromenhoek.

Castellanos, who had established himself as a dual-threat quarterback following his 1,113 rushing-yard sophomore campaign for Boston College, will hope he turns out to be a better match for an offense Malzahn has said he hopes will "run the football downhill" more in 2025.

After a successful run with Nebraska over the last two years, defensive coordinator Tony White has found a new home.

ESPN's Pete Thamel reported on Monday that White has agreed to join head coach Mike Norvell's staff at Florida State as its next defensive coordinator.

White will be replacing former Seminoles defensive coordinator Adam Fuller, who was among the team's firings following its 1-9 start to the 2024 season. He will be taking over a unit that allowed averages of 385.9 yards and 28.0 points per game this year. Florida State finished the regular season with a 2-10 record, its fewest amount of wins since 1974.

White joined Matt Rhule's staff at Nebraska prior to the 2023 campaign after multiple stops that included defensive coordinator roles with Syracuse and Arizona State. In his first year with the Cornhuskers, he led a unit that allowed just 92.9 rushing yards and 303.5 total yards per game, both of which were the best marks the program had seen in over a decade. He earned a nomination for the 2023 Broyles Award, which is given to the top assistant coach in the nation.

Nebraska performed at a similar level this year, allowing 105.8 rushing yards, 315.4 total yards and 19.8 points per game.

Prior to his coaching career, White was a three-year starter at linebacker for UCLA. After going undrafted in the 2002 NFL draft, he briefly signed with the practice squad for the Buffalo Bills before embarking on a three-year career in the CFL.

In addition to the hiring of White, Florida State also recently announced the hiring of former Auburn and UCF head coach Gus Malzahn as offensive coordinator as Norvell continues to rebuild his staff.

Florida State head coach Mike Norvell was not happy with Florida's attempt to plant their flag in Tallahassee.

Norvell appeared to take the flag from a Florida player and fling it aside after the Seminoles' 31-11 loss at home on Saturday night.

Florida head coach Billy Napier spoke with a visibly agitated Norvell after the attempted flag plant, at which point Norvell appeared to ignore his proffered handshake amid mockery from college football fans.

Saturday night marked the first time in three seasons Florida State has lost the in-state rivalry game.

The Seminoles finished the season with a 2-10 record, the team's worst mark since Norvell took over the program in 2020.

Florida State finished each of the two previous seasons with winning records and bowl game appearances, including a 2022 Cheez-It Bowl win and a 13-win campaign in 2023.

The Seminoles were unable to mark the scoreboard while fumbling twice in the first half of Saturday night's home game.

Norvell's team scored their only touchdown of the night when the game was already out of reach late in the fourth quarter.

Napier and the Gators are meanwhile preparing for a bowl game after ending the season with wins over ranked opponents in LSU and Ole Miss followed by the rivalry victory on Saturday night.

The scuffle following Florida State's loss was not the only altercation following a college football game on Saturday. Michigan's upset of Ohio State and Arizona State's win over Arizona both led to post-game disagreements earlier in the day.

Gus Malzahn has coached his final game for UCF.

Pete Thamel of ESPN reported that Malzahn is resigning from his head coaching position with the Knights and will accept the offensive coordinator position at Florida State.

Malzahn spent four seasons as the Knights head coach and compiled a 28-24 victory.

Malzahn oversaw UCF through its transition to the Big 12 Conference and led the program to three bowl appearances and a Gasparilla Bowl victory in 2021. However, UCF did regress each season and finished 4-8 in 2024.

Malzahn could have been on his way out anyway but now joins a Florida State team that desperately needs to improve.

The Seminoles are currently 2-9 and will miss out on a bowl game entirely. This comes after a 2023 season in which Florida State finished the regular season undefeated and took home an ACC Championship while narrowly missing the College Football Playoff.

Florida State will hope Malzahn can inject some new life into the offense while the 59-year-old will enjoy just focusing on the offensive side of the ball next season.

Report: 4-Star QB Tramell Jones Jr. Decommits from FSU Ahead of Early Signing Period

Four-star quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. has decommitted from Florida State, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3.

Jones is the No. 21 quarterback and No. 237 overall player in 247Sports' composite rankings for 2025. He's the sixth recruit to decommit from the Seminoles amid their disappointing season.

FSU is serving as a prime example of how quickly the narrative can turn on a program and its head coach.

In 2023, the Seminoles had a perfect regular season, while Mike Norvell won multiple Coach of the Year awards. Now, they're sitting at 1-9 and people are beginning to wonder whether Norvell is still the right guy for the job.

Florida State's performance would be enough to have a ripple effect on the recruiting trail. Firing offensive coordinator Alex Atkins, defensive coordinator Adam Fuller and wide receivers coach Ron Dugans probably didn't help because recruits often build a strong rapport with assistant coaches.

The Seminoles were 12th in 247Sports' composite team rankings for 2024. With Jones' defection, they're now 42nd in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

There's still time for Norvell and his staff to fill out the class and flip some recruits who are committed elsewhere, but the start of the early signing period is less than a month away (Dec. 4). It will be tough to match the haul FSU had a year ago.

The sting of losing Jones could also be compounded by watching him move over to an in-state rival. Florida is the favorite to land him in 247Sports' crystal ball.

Patrick Payton NFL Draft 2025: Scouting Report for Florida State EDGE

(Photo by Chris Leduc/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images)

HEIGHT: 6'5"

WEIGHT: 250

POSITIVES

— Good frame with room for growth to add some weight; also has good length and appears to have long arms.

— Sets up his pass-rush moves well by stemming, using hesitation moves and head/shoulder fakes.

— Good use of hands as a pass-rusher.

— Has shown a handful of moves he can win with; swim, ghost and spin.

— Against the run, he has good block recognition to put himself in a good position to take on blocks or avoid getting too far up the field when unblocked.

— Takes on blocks with his hands and keeps his hands tight on the blocker's chest.

NEGATIVES

— Wiry and lacks strength/sand in his pants to hold his ground against the run.

— Isn't explosive off the line of scrimmage.

— Not very physical at the point of attack as a run defender.

— Plays with sub-par pad level/leverage.

— Lacks lateral movement skills and change of direction to be effective as the looper on line games. Also, huts his ability to turn speed to power as a pass-rusher.

NOTES

— 4-star recruit in the 2021 class, per 247Sports

— 2023: Honorable Mention All-ACC

— 2022: ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year

— No major injuries

OVERALL

Patrick Payton is an interesting prospect as an EDGE rusher. He uses the stem phase of the rush well to help set up his pass-rush moves by stemming, using hesitation and head/shoulder fakes to help get to offensive tackles to stop their feet. On top of that, he has good use of hands to help win with a handful of moves like a swim, ghost and spin.

However, Payton isn't very explosive with his get-off which hurts his ability to win with speed around the edge. Also, he lacks the strength to win with power and doesn't have the change of direction to turn speed to power. His lateral movement skills or agility are sub-par which reduces his effectiveness on line games or stunts.

Against the run, the Florida State product has good block recognition against zone runs, putting himself in a good position to stay in his gap. Additionally, he takes on blocks with decent technique, using tight hands to land his punch on the blocker's chest. If he adds some size and strength, that should help him become a better run defender.

That being said, Payton is pretty wiry and struggles to get extension on blocks, limiting the effectiveness of his long arms. He also will struggle to hold his ground against offensive linemen, especially against down blocks, and he currently has a tough time taking on combo blocks from two tight ends.

Overall, Payton can contribute as a pass-rusher early in his NFL career. However, he lacks elite athleticism, which could cap his ceiling in that role. He has good technique to work with as a run defender and potentially become a complete player, but he'll need to spend time in the weight room to bulk up and hold up in the trenches at the next level.
