Jalen Brunson Overwhelms NBA Fans as Game-winner Helps Knicks Eliminate Cade, Pistons

There hasn't been a better series in the first round of the NBA playoffs than the New York Knicks facing the Detroit Pistons. It was only fitting that another epic finish closed it out.
Thanks to an 11-1 run to close the game and Jalen Brunson's game-winning three, the Knicks beat the Pistons in Game 6 on Thursday night, 116-113, and are off to the second round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs to face the Boston Celtics.
Brunson hit the Pistons with a Mortal Kombat-esque fatality in Game 6, putting up 40 points and seven assists, while Mikal Bridges (25 points) and OG Anunoby (22 points) were solid as well. Karl-Anthony Towns managed just 10 points, albeit adding 15 rebounds, before fouling out late in the fourth quarter.
Cade Cunningham yet again led Detroit with 23 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and three steals, while Jalen Duren added 21 points and six boards and Malik Beasley chipped in with 20 points off the bench (though he cost the Pistons a shot at a game-tying three at the buzzer, as a Cunningham pass glanced off his fingers).
The fact that this series was this tight was an enormous credit to the Pistons, who didn't even have Jaden Ivey for these playoffs. But Brunson came up with clutch moment after clutch moment throughout, and social media showed him the love:
The Knicks are advancing, but in many ways this series has felt like a cautionary tale for New York and something of a coronation for the Pistons. The Knicks were expected to come out on top but certainly didn't look like a team that would give the heavy-hitters in the East like the Celtics or Cleveland Cavaliers too much trouble, which is concerning for a team built to win right now.
The Pistons, on the other hand, are young and built for the future. Cunningham is only 23. Ausar Thompson is just 22. Duren is 21. Ivey, when he returns healthy, is only 23. Don't forget about rookie Ron Holland II, only 19.
The Pistons are only going to improve, and they gave the Knicks absolutely everything they could handle. In the end, they didn't have quite enough answers for Brunson, but they'll look on this series as a building block.
And the Knicks will hope the team can add more consistency in Round 2. If not, the Celtics won't let them stick around for long.
