Ja'Marr Chase Reveals His NFL WR Mount Rushmore; Leaves off Randy Moss, Terrell Owens

It's difficult to have a conversation about the best wide receivers in NFL history without mentioning Randy Moss and Terrell Owens, but the pair of Hall of Famers did not make Ja'Marr Chase's top four.

Sports Illustrated asked the Cincinnati Bengals pass-catcher for his Mount Rushmore of wide receivers, and he listed Calvin Johnson, Antonio Brown, Cooper Kupp and Jerry Rice.

"I'm not knocking them. I'd add Ocho in there too if I could," he said when asked about Moss and Owens. "…. There's only four."

While they didn't make the cut for Chase, Moss is second (156) and Owens is third (153) in all-time receiving touchdowns. And Owens is third (15,934) while Moss is fourth (15,292) for receiving yards.

The Bengals star at least had Rice, who is first all-time in catches (1,549), receiving yards (22,895) and receiving touchdowns (197) and is considered by many to be the best wide receiver in NFL history.

Chase has some work to do to reach those numbers, but he has already established himself as one of the best in today's game as a Pro Bowler with more than 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first two seasons.

Perhaps he will one day be included in debates about the receiver Mount Rushmore if he continues his current pace.

Terrell Owens: 'How in the Hell' Is John Lynch in Hall of Fame over Darren Woodson?

Hall of Fame wideout Terrell Owens can't believe former NFL safety Darren Woodson hasn't yet been enshrined in Canton.

"I'm thinking about a guy like Darren Woodson that's not in the Hall of Fame, but John Lynch is," Owens said to Hall of Fame receiver Andre Reed on Fubo Sports' Getcha Popcorn Ready (h/t Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk). "How in the hell do you quantify that?"

He continued:

When I got with the Niners, like I said, I didn't know anything about no rivalry with the Cowboys and the Niners, I knew nothing about that. But when it comes to the game plan [it was about where is Woodson]? Granted John Lynch did some great things here and there, but I'm not looking for John [on the field]. I wasn't. But when I played from my rookie year on, and I played against the Cowboys, I had to identify [where Woodson was]. Just because a guy starts on a defense and he is the No. 1 guy back there in the secondary for that defense, for me overall in totality, that doesn't mean he's impacting what I'm going to be doing. Yeah, he has to be accounted for that day because you're game planning, but I wasn't scared of No. 47 [Lynch]. And when I was with the Eagles and he was with Denver at the time [shrugs].

It's tough to argue that Lynch, who is now the general manager of the San Francisco 49ers, isn't deserving of his place in the Hall of Fame.

He played 15 seasons (1993-07) in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Denver Broncos, accumulating 1,059 tackles, 13 sacks, 26 interceptions, 16 forced fumbles and nine fumble recoveries. He was a nine-time Pro Bowler, two-time first-team All-Pro and one-time champion.

But Woodson—who was named a finalist for the Hall for the first time in 2023 after being a semifinalist six times, though he didn't ultimately make the cut—makes a compelling case himself.

He played 12 seasons in the NFL, all with the Dallas Cowboys, posting 967 tackles, 11 sacks, 23 interceptions, 12 forced fumbles and 11 fumble recoveries. He was a five-time Pro Bowler, three-time first-team All-Pro Selection and a three-time Super Bowl champion.

Perhaps his enshrinement is coming. He has at least one very vocal supporter in Owens.

After a neighbor of former NFL player Terrell Owens was charged with second-degree misdemeanor of false reports following an altercation in August, the charges have been dropped, via TMZ Sports.

Police were called Aug. 3 after Owens and Caitlin Davis had an argument outside their homes in Florida, but no arrests were made. Owens filmed the incident and later called for consequences after Davis allegedly lied to the police.

"If the wrong type of cops would've come out ... they got the wrong type of information. Her, you saw the video, she started crying. You never know how that situation could've turned," the 49-year-old told TMZ Sports.

He added: "I could've died. Honestly, I could have died, and the storyline would be totally different."

In October, Davis was charged with false reporting as authorities said she "knowingly" gave "false information" to police officers.

The case was dismissed Feb. 2 when prosecutors said they "would not be able to prove the elements of the charged crime with the facts that were presented."

Owens was also involved in an altercation in November when he punched a man outside a CVS, although he said it was self-defense.

The Hall of Fame receiver last played in the NFL in 2010, although he has remained active and competed in the Fan Controlled Football league last year. He also tried to make a return to the NFL.

Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Owens has never been short on confidence, and he believes he could have been a difference-maker for the Buffalo Bills had they accepted his offer prior to Sunday's AFC divisional-round loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Owens revealed on Twitter that he reached out to the Bills at some point for a potential return to the NFL, but Buffalo informed the 49-year-old the franchise "didn't want any distractions," which now sounds ironic after star receiver Stefon Diggs blew up on the sideline during the 27-10 loss and left the locker room early after the game:

Owens played 15 seasons in the NFL and ranks third in league history in both receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. He spent the 2009 season with Buffalo, but he is best known for his tenures with the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys.

Owens is still in great shape, as he most recently participated in Fan Controlled Football last year. He was traded from the Zappers to the Knights of Degen, but the Knights failed to advance to the playoffs.

Cowboys' Jerry Jones Denies Speaking to Terrell Owens' Agent About Potential Contract

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones denied rumors the team has been in contact with wide receiver Terrell Owens about a potential return for America's Team this season.

"I've never talked to him or his agent and will not seriously consider it," Jones said during his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. "But I've never talked to him."

Owens' agent, Gregory D.L. Daniel, recently told Sports Illustrated's Aaron Wilson that the former NFL wideout had been in "constant communication" with Jones about a possible deal.

Daniel said:

"We've been in constant communication with Jerry Jones' office over the last few days about the possibility of him returning to the Cowboys. Terrell is ready to contribute and play any role, big or small. He's in outstanding shape. He looks no different than he did years ago. I watched him running routes full-speed with DeSean and he looked great. He didn't drop a pass.

"He most recently ran a 4.5 40-yard dash, which was his warm-up. He's a legend. We want to make history and see him break these records. If anybody can do it, it's him. His three Ds are desire, dedication and discipline. He embodies that every day, even running hills at 3 a.m. on Christmas morning."

NFL reporter Dov Kleiman reported Wednesday that Owens "won't be signing with the Cowboys at this time." A source told Kleiman that one reason the deal isn't happening is because Owens is asking for more money.

It's no secret the Cowboys could use another wideout, but signing the 49-year-old would be a risk that many teams probably wouldn't be willing to take at this point in the season.

Owens said earlier this month that he had also been in contact with the San Francisco 49ers, another of his former clubs, about a possible return during an appearance on 95.7 The Game's The Morning Roast (h/t Angelina Martin of NBC Sports). The two sides obviously never reached a deal.

Owens last suited up in the NFL in 2010 when he was 37. He spent three seasons with the Cowboys from 2006-2008, racking up 3,587 yards and 38 touchdowns in 47 games.

In addition to the Cowboys and 49ers, Owens also played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals across his 15-year career. The Hall of Famer's 15,934 receiving yards trails only Jerry Rice and Larry Fitzgerald for most receiving yards in NFL history

The Cowboys had also been in contact with Odell Beckham Jr. about joining the team this season, but Jones essentially ruled out that possibility, saying recently that "it's not realistic to think about having him in any meaningful way for the playoffs."

Beckham remains unsigned while rehabbing from a torn ACL suffered in the Super Bowl last season.

The Cowboys enter their regular-season finale against the Washington Commanders next week having already clinched a playoff berth with a 12-4 record. CeeDee Lamb has been their best receiver with 1,307 yards eight touchdowns in 16 games.

Terrell Owens Contacted Cowboys, More Teams About NFL Comeback at Age 49

It's been 12 years since Terrell Owens played in an NFL game, but that isn't stopping the Pro Football Hall of Famer from trying to get back in the league at age 49.

Owens' agent, Gregory D.L. Daniel, told Aaron Wilson of SI.com that he contacted the Dallas Cowboys and other teams about trying to secure a workout for his client.

"We've been in constant communication with Jerry Jones' office over the last few days about the possibility of him returning to the Cowboys," Daniel said. "Terrell is ready to contribute and play any role, big or small. He's in outstanding shape. He looks no different than he did years ago. I watched him running routes full-speed with DeSean [Jackson] and he looked great. He didn't drop a pass."

Daniel told Wilson that Owens recently ran the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds.

TMZ Sports noted in August that Owens ran a 4.38-second 40-yard dash against fellow Fan Controlled Football receivers James Harden and Andrew Jamiel.

It should be noted that 40 was clocked by someone with an iPhone.

Owens told ESPN's Tim McManus in April he joined the Fan Controlled Football league so he could play the game again.

"I'm just looking forward to the opportunity ... to get out there and run around and help mentor some guys," he said. "Everything that I've done to make myself a Hall of Famer—I'm going to try to do my best to not only just play but help mentor those guys and help them become better at their craft."

George Blanda is the oldest player to appear in an NFL game at the age of 48 in 1976. Owens turned 49 on Dec. 7.

The Cowboys were seeking help at wide receiver for most of the season. They were often connected to Odell Beckham Jr. before they signed T.Y. Hilton on Dec. 12.

Following Dallas' 40-34 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday, Jerry Jones told reporters Beckham likely wouldn't join the team because it was "not realistic" to think he could contribute in the playoffs after he tore his ACL in Super Bowl LVI.

Jones is not afraid to take a big swing if he thinks it will make the Cowboys better, but Owens is likely fighting an uphill battle because of his age and how long he's been out of the league.

The last time Owens played, he was still productive. The six-time Pro Bowler had 983 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2010, his age-37 season.

Owens had three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and caught 38 touchdown passes in 47 games with the Cowboys from 2006 to '08. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.

Terrell Owens knows just the guy who can help the San Francisco 49ers if they're looking for a wide receiver.

Owens said Wednesday on San Francisco radio station 95.7 The Game (via Audacy) he's "definitely available":

The six-time Pro Bowler isn't wrong in that he's "definitely available," but it's safe to say he definitely won't step onto an NFL field again.

Owens last played in the NFL in 2010 and has been out of the league long enough to get enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He's also celebrating his 49th birthday, so he'd be the oldest player in the history of the NFL. George Blanda was 48 when he retired.

Owens is a 49ers legend and one of the most prolific pass-catchers of all time. He ranks eighth in receptions (1,078) and third in receiving yards (15,934).

The former Niners star remains in great shape too.

But the ship sailed long ago on an Owens comeback in the NFL.

Former NFL player Terrell Owens says he was acting in self-defense when he punched a man in a CVS parking lot, telling the Associated Press that the other person "made offensive gestures and threatening statements."

The altercation, which took place Saturday night in Inglewood, California, was caught on video and shared by TMZ Sports:

Owens said the situation began inside the store when a person threatened both him and a fan and that the man continued to do so after they walked outside.

"The aggressor continued threatening the fan just as he did in the store," Owens said. "Once again, attempting to diffuse the ongoing situation, I placed myself between the fan and the aggressor. I made verbal demands asking the aggressor to stop his threatening behavior."

Owens told the AP that the man "swung at me first," and he "felt obligated to prevent the aggressor from becoming more violent."

According to TMZ Sports, Owens left in his own car and police were not called.

The 48-year-old former wide receiver played 15 NFL seasons, earning five first-team All-Pro selections, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.

He has stayed active in various football endeavors since his last NFL season in 2010, including playing in the Fan Controlled Football league this year.

Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Owens reportedly was involved in an altercation that resulted in him punching a person outside of a CVS in Los Angeles.

Owens told TMZ Sports that he was shopping in the store when a San Francisco 49ers fan approached him and they had a friendly conversation, but a second man began harassing and heckling the fan he was speaking with. Witnesses told TMZ Sports that the second man "threatened to beat up the men outside."

The incident eventually spilled outside of the store to the sidewalk. Owens was reportedly trying to de-escalate things when the heckler threw a punch at him. The 48-year-old's punch reportedly sent the man to the pavement. The situation calmed down after that, and Owens left in his car.

Owens played 15 seasons in the NFL and is widely considered to be one of the best wide receivers of all time. He ranks third in NFL history in both receiving yard and receiving touchdowns. He is best known for his runs with the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys, but he also had stints with the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals. He signed a contract with the Seattle Seahawks in 2012 but never saw the field, as he was released prior to the start of the season.

Owens most recently participated in Fan Controlled Football earlier this year. He was the first player in league history ever to be traded when the Zappers sent him to the Knights of Degen. However, the Knights failed to make the playoffs.

Terrell Owens is a man of his word.

He turned heads in May when he guaranteed he could run a 40-yard dash in fewer than 4.5 seconds during an appearance on The People's Pregame: NBCLX’s Fan Controlled Football Podcast.

He was right.

Owens ran a sub-4.5-second 40-yard dash while racing against Fan Controlled Football League wide receivers James Harden (not the basketball player) and Andrew Jamiel. TMZ Sports noted there was plenty of trash talk leading up to the race, and Owens backed up his words.

The Hall of Famer is one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history and is third on the all-time list with 15,934 receiving yards, third on the all-time list with 153 touchdown catches and eighth on the all-time list with 1,078 catches.

If his speed is any indication, he may still be able to put up numbers at 48 years old.
