East Carolina 7, Wake Forest 6

Many thought these two schools would meet on Saturday, although the context was quite different than those previous expectations.

Both East Carolina and Wake Forest got upset on Friday, which meant that the two teams would meet with elimination at stake. Entering the final inning, it looked like East Carolina was set to be the first national seed to be eliminated

Instead, the preseason No. 1 Demon Deacons are headed home.

The Pirates actually entered the ninth inning sporting a 4-1 lead. but a five runs from Wake Forest in the top of the inning but East Carolina in a 6-4 hole.

That's where the Pirates bats came to play. East Carolina hit four consecutive singles to start the inning, tying the game in the process. That set the table for Luke Nowak, who delivered a walk-off single.

East Carolina will await the loser of VCU and Evansville on Sunday.

High Point 10, Vanderbilt 9

Vanderbilt has been a threat in the NCAA Tournament for years. This year, however, a trip to Omaha was not fated to occur.

After dropping its first game to Coastal Carolina, the Commodores needed to hold off High Point to stay alive. However, the Panthers were unwilling to cooperate.

Vanderbilt went up 5-0, but High Point tied it in the sixth and made it 9-5 in the seventh. The Commodores knotted it nine in the eighth and it looked like the game was destined to go to extra innings.

The Panthers, instead, benefitted from an error and some small ball to get a runner on third and Miggy Echazaretta clinched the win with a walk-off single.

This is the first NCAA Tournament victory in High Point's program history and just the second victory it has ever claimed against an SEC Team.

The Panthers will face Coastal Carolina on Sunday.

St. Johns 10, Penn 9

St. Johns has logged plenty of innings in this tournament.

Just hours after losing to Mississippi State in 10 innings, it took 12 for the Red Storm to knock off Penn by a score of 10-9.

This game followed the walk-off trend as well, as Anthony Brienza delivered the single that brought St. Johns the victory in the bottom of the 12th.

St. Johns will face Virginia or Mississippi State on Sunday

Dallas Baptist 7, Arizona 0

It was not a great showing for the Arizona Wildcats.

The No. 13 seed becomes the first national seed to be sent home as the bats fail to show up in the elimination game against Dallas Baptist.

The Patriots got a gem from starter Jaron DeBerry, as he went six innings while surrendering zero runs on just three hits and four walks. Arizona mustered only five hits on the day and struck out eight times.

Dallas Baptist will take on Grand Canyon or West Virginia on Sunday.

It's tournament time on the diamond.

North Carolina 11, LIU 8

UNC was on the verge of being upset.

The Tar Heels were a strike away from sealing a 5-4 victory over Long Island, but the Sharks tied it and then added three to take the lead in the top of the ninth.

The situation looked bleak, but North Carolina wasn't done. It got two runs to cut the lead to 8-7, and then Gavin Gallagher stepped up to the plate.

The freshman smashed a grand slam to secure the 11-8 victory and keep the Tar Heels in a solid position.

North Carolina will face LSU in the winner's bracket.

Kentucky 10, Western Michigan 8

It looked like Kentucky was going to run away with a victory in the first game of the Lexington Regional, but fate had other plans.

The Wildcats took an 8-0 lead on Western Michigan, but a five-run fifth inning from the Broncos made things interesting. Kentucky scored two in the bottom of the inning, which proved to be consequential as Western Michigan tacked on three additional runs but came up just short at 10-8.

Robert Hogan was huge in relief for Kentucky, as he pitched 3.1 innings and allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out four and not surrendering a single run.

James McCoy had two hits and three RBIs, two of which came on a two-run blast in the second inning.

The Wildcats will face the winner of Illinois and Indiana State on Saturday.

LSU 4, Wofford 3

The defending national champion nearly had its back against the wall on Day 1 of the tournament.

Wofford took a 2-0 lead in the second inning and even made it 3-1 in the eighth inning. However, three Tiger runs in the final two innings guided the team to a 4-3 victory and a trip to the winner's bracket.

The daggers came from late home runs, with Jared Jones supplying a game-tying home run in the eighth.

And the Steven Milam hit his second home run of the day in the bottom of the ninth to secure the walk-off win.

With the dinger, Milam became the first player in program history to hit multiple walk-off home runs in a single season.

The Tigers will face the winner of North Carolina in the winner's bracket.

Georgia 8, Army 7

The Georgia Bulldogs had quite the battle with Army in its first matchup.

It was a back-and-forth matchup with the two sides trading leads three times. However, it was the Bulldogs who emerged with the 8-7 victory.

Army went up 2-0 in the first and even led 4-1 through the top of the fourth. Georgia would make it 4-3 in the bottom of the inning and would eventually tie it in the fifth. Army would once again take a lead in the top of the sixth, but Georgia broke out for three runs and made it 7-5 in the bottom of the sixth.

Army tied it in the eighth but a Fernando Gonzales sacrifice fly provided the dagger in the bottom of the inning

Georgia will face Georgia Tech or UNC Wilmington in the Athens Regional winner's bracket.

South Carolina 8, James Madison 7 (10)

Nine innings wasn't going to be enough to declare a winner between South Carolina and James Madison.

James Madison was just one out away from securing the win, but instead South Carolina is heading to the winner's bracket with an 8-7, 10-inning victory.

James Madison had two outs on Cole Messina, but the junior delivered in the right moment.

After shutting down the Dukes in the top of the 10th, South Carolina quickly got runners on second and third and Will Tippett smacked a walk-off sacrifice fly.

South Carolina will face Bryant of NC State in the winner's bracket.

Oregon 5, San Diego 4 (11)

Oregon and San Diego saw South Carolina's inning count and decided to add another.

Oregon led 4-1 in the bottom of the eighth, but a three run home run from Jakob Christian tied it at four.

Oregon would have to wait a few innings but would eventually claim the game in the 11th.

Oregon got it's fifth run in the top of the 11th via a bomb from Bryce Boettcher.

The Ducks would then lock it down in the bottom of the inning to secure the victory and clinch a date with UC Santa Barbara in the winner's bracket.

UC Santa Barbara 9, Fresno State 6

Trailing 2-1 through three innings, UC Santa Barbara scored eight runs over the next three innings to earn a 9-6 win over Fresno State in the opening game of the tournament for both teams.

The Bulldogs took the lead in the top of the second on Ben Newton's two-run single off UC Santa Barbara starter Ryan Gallagher.

UCSB finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth, with Jessada Brown delivering the big blow on a three-run homer to cap off a four-run frame. It was his second long ball of the game after a solo shot in the first inning.

The Gauchos really broke things open with a three-run sixth inning to take a 9-3 lead. Aaron Parker hit a solo homer in the inning as part of his 5-for-5 day at the plate.

Fresno State tried to get back in the game with three runs in the top of the eighth. All three runs were unearned after a throwing error by third baseman Justin Trimble when he was trying to start a double play on a grounder.

Jackson Flora and Matt Ager closed the game for the Gauchos with 1.1 scoreless innings.

UC Santa Barbara will advance to the winner's bracket to take on Oregon. Fresno State will look to keep its season alive against San Diego.

The 2024 NCAA baseball tournament is littered with top prospects for the MLB draft.

A majority of the top picks in this year's draft are expected to come from the collegiate ranks. Most of the top players will be on display during the regional round.

The regional round begins Friday with four teams at 16 sites playing for one spot each in the super regional round.

The full NCAA baseball tournament schedule can be found here on NCAA.com.

Players to Watch

Charlie Condon, OF, Georgia

Charlie Condon leads the NCAA with a .443 batting average and 35 home runs.

The Georgia player is currently the No. 2 overall pick in the latest mock draft from Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter.

The expectation is for Condon to go in the top two to one of the Cleveland Guardians or Cincinnati Reds.

Condon is expected to put on a show during regional weekend inside his home ballpark, which is known to create a ton of offense in warmer weather.

Georgia is the No. 7 overall seed, so if it advances to the super regional round, Condon and his teammates will have an additional weekend to put up eye-popping numbers in Athens.

The sophomore outfielder could be involved in one of the highest-scoring games of the weekend if UGA matches up with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech ranks 20th in batting average and the two schools have 230 home runs between them this season.

Travis Bazzana, 2B, Oregon State

Bazzana is currently Reuter's No. 1 overall pick to Cleveland.

The Oregon State second baseman ranks fourth in the country in batting average and has the eighth-most home runs with 28.

Bazzana and the Beavers will be at home for the regional round. They start off the tournament against the Tulane Green Wave on Friday night.

The best infield product in the draft class built a strong case to be the best pure hitter in the draft class. He is in competition with Condon and Florida's Jac Caglianone for that title.

Bazzana should put on a show in the Corvallis regional with three mid-major sides in Oregon State's part of the bracket.

The real test for the Beavers would come in the super regional round against the second-seeded Kentucky Wildcats.

Chase Burns, RHP, Wake Forest

Chase Burns will likely be the first pure pitcher chosen in the MLB draft.

Caglianone pitches in addition to playing first base, but he will be drafted because of his prowess at the plate.

Burns leads the nation with 184 strikeouts. He holds a 30-strikeout advantage over Arkansas' Hagen Smith in second place.

Reuter slotted Burns into the No. 6 pick in his latest mock draft, but he could go higher depending on if the teams in the top five want an impact arm instead of a promising bat.

Burns should pitch the regional opener for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons against the VCU Rams on Friday.

He is one of the few top prospects who will not be at home during regional weekend. Wake was drawn with the East Carolina Pirates, the No. 16 national seed.

Burns will likely make just one appearance during regional weekend unless Wake plays on Monday in an elimination game and employs the all-hands-on-deck pitching strategy.

Sixteen college baseball programs have the opportunity to defend their home field at least one more time in the regional round of the 2024 NCAA baseball tournament.

The top 16 teams in the nation host four-team regionals to kick off the road to the College World Series in Omaha.

The Tennessee Volunteers earned the No. 1 overall seed and four of the top five seeds went to SEC teams.

The Vols and the other top-eight teams can remain at home for the super regional round if they conquer the four-team regional round.

Play across the 16 regional sites lasts from Friday to Monday. The four-team brackets will be played out in a double-elimination format.

The full schedule for each of the 16 regionals can be found here on NCAA.com. All games can be live-streamed on ESPN+. Select games will be broadcast on the ESPN networks.

NCAA Baseball Tournament Bracket

Preview

All of the top 16 seeds will be expected to come away with super regional berths.

After all, the likes of Tennessee, Kentucky and Arkansas get to play inside their home ballparks this weekend.

But it does not always work out perfectly for the top 16 seeds on regional weekend. Seven top 16 seeds were upset in last season's NCAA tournament.

Five of the top eight seeds in the 2023 NCAA tournament went on to the College World Series, so most of the top teams can still get to Omaha.

The North Carolina Tar Heels are the highest national seed under the biggest threat in the regional round.

UNC was drawn alongside the reigning national champion LSU Tigers. LSU was the No. 11 seed in the SEC tournament, but it made it to the final where it lost to Tennessee.

UNC and LSU could meet as early as Saturday and the expectation is they will face off multiple times in Chapel Hill this weekend.

At its best, LSU has the talent to match any one of the top eight seeds, but it did not put everything together until last week at the SEC tournament.

Tennessee should advance out of its regional, but its path to Omaha could get complicated in the super regional round if one of the top two seeds advance out of the Greenville regional.

The East Carolina Pirates are one of the best mid-major programs in the country. Their expected battle with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, the No. 1 seed last season, should give us one of the tightest regionals.

The most exciting regionals in terms of offense should be in Athens and Stillwater. The Georgia Bulldogs rank third in team home runs and have potential No. 1 overall pick Charlie Condon anchoring their lineup.

Georgia could face its biggest in-state rival, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, in the second game in Athens. Georgia Tech ranks in the top 20 in most team offensive splits.

Stillwater produced some of the highest-scoring regional games in recent years. Three totals of 12 or more occurred at the home of the Oklahoma State Cowboys last year in the regional round. Two years ago, scores of 20-12, 29-15 and 14-10 happened in Stillwater.

Each regional host will start the weekend by playing the No. 4 seed in each region. The No. 2 seed plays the No. 3 seed on Friday at every site. The winners face each other on Saturday with a spot in the regional championship on the line. The losers enter the elimination portion of the double-elimination bracket.

The first part of the NCAA baseball tournament bracket reveal produced the host sites for the 16 regionals to take place from Friday to Monday.

The road to Omaha will begin at home for five SEC schools, including the top-ranked Tennessee Volunteers.

The ACC tied the SEC for most home regionals, the Pac-12 and Big 12 each have two hosts and a pair of mid-major squads will play in their own ballparks.

Each of the 16 sites will feature a four-team, double-elimination tournament that begins on Friday. The winners of each regional move on to the best-of-three super regional series.

Regional Hosts

Georgia

North Carolina

Virginia

Clemson

Texas A&M

Oregon State

Arkansas

East Carolina

Tennessee

Kentucky

Oklahoma

NC State

UC Santa Barbara

Oklahoma State

Florida State

Arizona

The entire NCAA baseball tournament bracket will be unveiled on Monday at Noon ET.

The eight national seeds, as well as the order of the top 16 seeds, will be handed out at that point.

The 16 hosts know they rank somewhere in the top 16 seeds. The order is important because the top eight have hosting priority for the super regionals.

A year ago, nine of the 16 seeded teams took advantage of their home field and advanced to the super regionals. Five of the eight super regional hosts went on to the College World Series.

Tennessee will have the benefit of hosting this year after it had to go on the road twice to advance to Omaha last season. The Vols will be in contention for the No. 1 overall seed with a handful of ACC and SEC teams.

The Kentucky Wildcats, Clemson Tigers, Texas A&M Aggies and Arkansas Razorbacks ranked in the top five of the baseball Top 25 ahead of conference championship week.

Tennessee's win over reigning national champion LSU in the SEC tournament likely sealed the No. 1 overall seed. The other four teams have strong cases to make off their regular-season resumes.

LSU is the team no regional host wants to see in its portion of the bracket. The Tigers looked like the title-winning team of 2023 during their run to the SEC tournament final.

The Tigers will be the favorite pick to upset a regional host and move to the super regional round.

All of the four teams drawn in each regional will be seeded from one to four. The top seed faces the No. 4 seed and the No. 2 seed plays the No. 3 seed in the opening games at each site.

The winners and losers of each game play on the second day of the regional. Every regional ends once three of the four teams suffer multiple defeats.

The Tennessee Volunteers are the top-ranked team in the country for a reason.

After dropping its first game of the SEC Tournament, the Volunteers held strong and advanced to the Championship Game anyway. In that contest, some clutch hitting and solid pitching helped Tennessee claim a 4-3 victory over LSU.

It is the fifth conference championship in program history and the Volunteers first since 2022. It also came against the defending National Champions and gave the Volunteers another notch in the belt for its resume to be the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.

LSU appeared poised to remain undefeated in the tournament after scoring the first run of the game. This came off the bat of Jared Jones, who demolished a breaking ball 471 feet for a solo home run.

This score would hold until the third inning when Billy Amick crushed a three-run home run to put the Volunteers in the lead.

Tennessee would add an insurance run in the seventh off an RBI single from Hunter Ensley.

The key to the game for Tennessee was the relief performance from freshman southpaw Dylan Loy. He was the second Volunteer pitcher to take the mound and he delivered 4.2 innings with just two hits allowed and five strikeouts recorded.

He took the victory and Aaron Combs earned the save in the victorious effort. This came despite a late charge from the Tigers that saw it tack on two runs and nearly pull-off the comeback.

Tennessee now will turn its attention to the aforementioned Division I tournament and should be considered a favorite to win it all in Omaha. While earning the top overall seed is a huge accomplishment, it's not necessarily the best omen for tournament success.

Only one national seed has won it all at the College World Series, the 1999 Miami Hurricanes. Tennessee will hope to curb this trend if it does indeed retain the No. 1 ranking, but many other programs will be eager to knock them down.

The fate of the Volunteers, Tigers and the rest of the SEC will be revealed Monday at noon E.T. at the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament Selection Show.

Charlotte, North Carolina continues to be nice to the Duke baseball team.

Three years after sweeping the competition at the 2021 ACC Championship, the 2024 Blue Devils squad accomplished the same feat, winning the tournament with a 16-4 victory over Florida State in the championship game.

The Seminoles actually jumped out to the first lead of the game, but it did not take long for the Blue Devil bats to get hot.

Kyle Johnson and A.J. Gracia provided clutch hits in the top of the second to give Duke a 5-2 lead.

Duke would add on in the fourth inning when Ben Miller smoked a grand slam to extend the lead to 9-2.

The Seminoles got two runs back in the bottom of the inning, but the Duke offense wasn't slowing down any time soon.

Chase Krewson drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the sixth to make it 10-2, and then Devin Obee smashed the second Blue Devil grand slam moments later.

Miller would add a second home run in the top of the seventh, giving him his fifth-and-sixth RBIs on the day.

The excellence wasn't exclusive to the bats, however, as Krewson flashed some arm talent in the eighth inning to keep the game at 16-4.

The win improved the Blue Devils to 39-18 on the season and gave the program its second ACC Championship. Duke also makes a case to earn a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, although that will ultimately be up to the selection committee.

Duke is looking to advance to the College World Series for the first time since 1961 and eventually pursue the first national championship in program history.

The Blue Devils, Seminoles and the remainder of the ACC will find out their fates come tournament time in short order.

The NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament field will be revealed Monday at noon E.T. on ESPN.

With the conference's automatic bid into the College World Series, LSU and Tennessee square off in the finals of the SEC Baseball Championship Sunday from Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Alabama.

The Tigers bested South Carolina for the second time in the tournament to cash their ticket to the title game, this time on Steven Milam's two-run walk-off homer.

The Volunteers avenged an earlier defeat to the Vanderbilt Commodores, defeating them 6-4 Saturday, partially on the strength of Christian Moore's two-run homer.

Tennesse swept its series with LSU in 2024, outscoring the Tigers 17-8 in three games.

Can they make it four in a row or will the 2023 College World Series champs cash their ticket back to the grandest stage in collegiate baseball?

Find out with this preview of the game, as well as when and how to watch.

LSU Tigers vs. Tennessee Volunteers (3:00 p.m., ESPN2 and ESPN+)

Prediction

Tennessee is no stranger to winning the SEC Baseball Championship.

The Vols won the 2022 title game and will look to make it two out of three when they battle the Tigers. It will not be easy.

LSU has an electric offense, throwing up 43 runs in the tournament thus far, including a come-from-behind win against South Carolina Saturday that saw them erase an eight-run deficit.

The Tigers do not rely on a single player to spur the offense. Their depth makes them unpredictable and keeps them in games, even when things appear hopeless.

The Volunteers have better, more consistent starting pitching, which should make for a fun battle Sunday afternoon in Hoover. Tennessee plays angry and with purpose, as if they are hellbent on regaining a championship they have chased for the last two years.

Still, LSU's resiliency and ability to score, seemingly at will, cannot be discounted. Nor can their desire to repeat as College World Series champions.

Only four teams remained in the SEC Tournament heading into Saturday's action, with two spots in the Championship game up for grabs.

South Carolina and LSU clashed once again after the Tigers escaped with a narrow 11-10 victory on Thursday. Then, Vanderbilt and top-seeded Tennessee faced off for the one remaining spot in the title game.

Here's a look at each contest as it unfolded.

May 25 SEC Tournament Schedule

No. 11 LSU def. No. 10 South Carolina, 12-11

No. 1 Tennessee def. No. 8 Vanderbilt, 6-4

LSU 12, South Carolina 11

The rematch between the Tigers and the Gamecocks was another high-scoring game that ended up with LSU pulling off an improbable comeback and escaping with a victory.

The contest initially appeared to be getting out of hand early, as the Gamecocks jumped out to a dominant 8-0 lead after the top of the fourth inning. Their strong start contained a three-run homer from catcher Dalton Reeves as well as RBI singles from junior Cole Messina and infielder Parker Noland.

However, LSU responded with a six-run fourth inning to stay within striking distance. After South Carolina pushed the team's lead to 10-6 with a run-scoring single and a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, the Tigers answered once again.

LSU scored three combined runs in the sixth and seventh innings due to solo home runs from sophomore Jared Jones and junior infielder Michael Braswell. Freshman Ashton Larson drove in the third run with a sacrifice fly.

The Tigers were finally able to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth inning due to a wild sequence of events. After a leadoff double, sophomore Paxton Kling was inserted as a pinch-runner. Kling eventually scored off a throwing error by South Carolina as catcher Alex Milazzo attempted a bunt.

The Gamecocks briefly re-took the lead at the top of the 10th inning, although LSU finally clinched a victory following a walk-off two-run home run from freshman infielder Steven Milam.

The Tigers advanced to the title game and will attempt to win their first SEC Tournament since 2017.

Tennessee 6, Vanderbilt 4

After a thrilling win over Mississippi State on Friday, the Volunteers built off their earlier momentum and secured a spot in the title game by defeating Vanderbilt on Saturday.

Tennessee struck first, scoring two runs in the fourth inning after a throwing error and a sacrifice fly. It didn't take long for Vanderbilt to retaliate, with the Commodores tying the game on a two-run home run from freshman Braden Holcomb.

The Volunteers were led by a strong performance on the mound from left-handed pitcher Zander Sechrist, who racked up five strikeouts in six innings while allowing the two earned runs.

Tennessee took a 5-2 lead in the sixth inning after a sacrifice fly from sophomore Dalton Bargo as well as a two-run homer from infielder Christian Moore.

Vanderbilt threatened to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth inning after scoring once in the eighth, having runners on first and second with no outs. However, the Commodores were only able to score one more run after a game-ending flyout with a runner on third.

The stage for the 2024 ACC Baseball Championship is set.

Florida State, Wake Forest, Duke and Miami all entered Saturday as winners of their respective pools. For some, the weekend presented a chance to improve positioning within the NCAA Tournament field. For others, winning the tournament may be the only way to secure a spot in the postseason.

In the end, it will be Florida State and Duke facing off for the title.

Here is a look at how the day's action went.

Championship Game Schedule

Matchup: No. 5 Florida State vs. No. 6 Duke

Date: Sunday, May 26

Time: 12 p.m. ET

Channel: ESPN 2

Live Stream: WatchESPN

Florida State 9, Wake Forest 6

For the first time in six years, the Florida State Seminoles are headed to the ACC Championship.

The program hit a significant low point in 2023, going 23-31 and missing out on the ACC tournament altogether. This year has been a return to form, with the Seminoles sporting a 41-14 record and now headed to the tournament championship after knocking off Wake Forest 9-6.

The Demon Deacons did have a tougher task than the Seminoles as Wake Forest played a 12-inning classic against North Carolina just hours before the first pitch of this one. That didn't mean Wake Forest was going to start slowly, however, as it put three runs on the board in the third inning to take the first lead of the game.

Florida State quickly tied it up in the bottom of the inning and added two more in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead. Wake Forest would make it 5-4 in the sixth, but the Seminoles added two runs in the sixth and seventh innings to extend the lead to 9-4.

Wake Forest scored two in the eighth but could not add beyond that.

Max Williams led the Seminoles with three hits and four RBIs. Drew Faurot and Daniel Cantu added two hits, while John Abraham took home the victory in relief.

Duke 8, Miami 2

The miracle run for the Hurricanes is over.

The 11-seed knocked off No. 2 Clemson and No. 7 Louisville to claim the surprising Pool B victory. However, Miami was unable to keep the luck going and fell to the higher-seeded Blue Devils.

The loss likely signals the end of the season for the Hurricanes, as the team went 27-30 and are unlikely to qualify for the NCAA Tournament as an at-large team. Still, Miami did not go down without a fight.

The Hurricanes only mustered two hits against Duke but made them count. Miami was the first to score in the matchup after Daniel Cuvet smashed a two-run home run in the top of the fourth.

Duke would get one back in the fifth and one in the seventh, but exploded for six in the eighth to take the victory.

Devin Obee was the leader for Dukes offense with two hits and two RBIs and Charlie Beilenson claimed the victory.
