The 2020-21 NCAA and NFL seasons are over, but football fans hungry for gridiron action aren't frozen out just yet. Fan Controlled Football kicked off its inaugural season last weekend and will enter Week 2 this Saturday.

Fan Controlled Football (FCF) is not just another spring league. It's a fresh new take on arena-style football where fans get to control both the rosters and some of the action. Think of it as a sort of real-life fantasy football, only fans aren't competing for just bragging rights. They have a chance to help deliver a professional football championship.

Players, team owners and fans are all looking to win here.

"I thought it would be, 'Oh, yeah, sure, I'll sit there with a beer and I'll look at the phone and pass, run, and we'll be off.' No, we very much have to make sure we're calling the right plays," Kinda Funny CEO and Wild Aces co-owner Greg Miller told 670 The Score.

And this innovative idea appears to be a hit among the fans involved with the FCF so far. According to Sam Carp of SportsPro Media, Week 1's live Twitch stream drew 700,000 viewers, while the FCF App was the most downloaded app in the Apple store over the weekend.

Many of the fans who streamed the Week 1 action will likely be back for more seven-on-seven, 50-yard, no-kicking football this week. Whether you're among the returning fans or entirely new to the FCF, here's everything you need to know about Week 2.

2021 Fan Controlled Football Week 2

When: Saturday, February 20

Where: Infinite Energy Arena, Duluth, Georgia

Schedule

  • Beasts vs. Wild Aces at 8 p.m. ET
  • Zappers vs. Glacier Boyz at 9 p.m. ET

All games will be live-streamed on Twitch and broadcast on gaming network VENN.

Rosters and Play-Calling Format

We took a more in-depth look at the FCF rules and format in our Week 1 preview, but we'll recap how rosters and play-calling work here. If you're already familiar with the ins and outs of the FCF, feel free to skip ahead to this week's rosters.

This will be the second week of a four-week regular season. It will be followed by one playoff week and then the FCF championship week. While many aspects of FCF will remain the same from week-to-week, the rosters won't.

New rosters are drafted each week—though fans can choose one keeper—with three-man offensive lines and defenses each counting as a single unit.

As of Thursday, the official FCF website does not have individual defenders or offensive linemen listed among its team rosters. However, players for the individual squads can be found on the players page. As is the case in fantasy football, though, the league's emphasis is on the quarterbacks and offensive skill positions.

When it comes to play-calling, this too will be controlled by fans. They can increase their voting power by successfully constructing powerful rosters and effective game plans. From the FCF website:

"Call the right play? You get some FanIQ. Draft the top players? Get some more FanIQ. Your FanIQ increases the more you interact with FCF and prove to other fans just how much you know the game. When you hit certain targets of FanIQyou level up! And as you level up, your voting power increases and all your votes count for more. The more you put in, the more you get out. So get to it!"

Fans can also earn special badges to increase their voting power and can gain video-game-like power-ups for their favorite team. So, while in-game voting will impact what happens on the field, it will also affect how things unfold on a week-to-week basis.

In Week 1, fans of the Beasts and the Wild Aces helped vote their teams to victory. This means that only one undefeated team will remain after Week 2.

It appears there's a third life mantra for Marshawn Lynch to go along with taking care of his chicken and mentals.

Take care of your bowels.

The retired running back was on commentary for the opening week of the new Fan Controlled Football league, saying he's very committed to eating enough leafy greens to keep himself regular.

On behalf of literally everyone: Some major network, please hire Marshawn to do game commentary for the 2021 NFL season.

Lynch is the type of refreshing, honest and unique voice we need in broadcast booths—even when he's not talking about his dietary habits.

The man is a national treasure.

Fan Controlled Football roared to life Saturday as the new pro league's opening night gave viewers a chance not only to collaborate on building teams but also call plays in real time.

As the video game-esque league gets underway, one thing remains clear: It was built for nonstop highlights.

Week 1 saw the Wild Aces take the inaugural game 30-22 over the Glacier Boys, while quarterback Johnny Manziel and the Zappers fell to the Beasts 48-44 on an epic final drive.

The former Heisman Trophy winner pulled out every trick he had on the last play of regulation, scrambling around the field before hitting an open receiver only to see him taken out at the goal line as time expired. For a league looking to satisfy football fans one week after the NFL ended its season, this certainly qualified.

Manziel was electric all game as the Zappers' franchise quarterback, running in a touchdown early on while fans called on him to throw the deep ball on multiple occasions.

https://twitter.com/fcflio/status/1360789449999810563

The seven-on-seven league features a few key differences from other football organizations that make watching every play imperative for fans. For starters, aside from predetermined franchise players like Manziel, all teams are redrafted every Wednesday night. Even if a team is playing poorly, it's incumbent on its fans to continue scouting all athletes on the field to prepare for the following week's draft.

More than a few players improved their stock heading into Week 2.

Beasts quarterback Quinton Flowers is certainly one of the top names to watch after his play Saturday. The former USF star showed off his arm strength and improvisation on multiple plays, becoming one of the breakout stars of Week 1.

However, Flowers was very nearly upstaged by one of the Beasts co-owners, as former NFL star Marshawn Lynch attempted to suit up and take a few snaps.

Lynch jumped onto the FCF Twitch broadcast and admitted, in NSFW terms, that watching the game made him want to get out there. When the hosts began laughing, Lynch made clear he was serious and left to go suit up. Despite getting in pads, the league determined just before kickoff that he would not be taking the field.

With fans in control of the rules as well as the plays, it's possible the league creates a path for Lynch to take a few snaps in the future.

For now, he'll just celebrate his first victory with the Beasts from the stands.

Fan Controlled Football is here! Week 1 of the inaugural FCF season is set to take place Saturday, with all four of the league's teams in action.

For those not yet familiar with the FCF, it is a new spring football league that differs greatly from past start-ups like the AAF and the XFL. It will play games in a seven-on-seven arena-style format, with a 50-yard field and several innovations altering the format. The most notable is that fans—as the name suggests—are in charge of the construction of and play-calling for teams.

If you have ever thought you could be a better general manager or coach than the ones running teams in the NFL, then the FCF may be just the thing for you.

"I guarantee you that there's been a moment that you and every sports fan has had where you're watching a game and you're asking, 'Why are they calling that play? That's ridiculous,'" Patrick Dees, the co-founder and chief gaming officer of FCF, said, per Mike D. Sykes II of For The Win. "We've all had that moment. We're just the ones who kind of put it in motion."

Here we'll examine the Week 1 schedule and take a quick look at the rosters and rules as the FCF gets ready to figuratively kick off its season

That's right, there will be no actual kicking in the FCF, but there does promise to be plenty of drama.

FCF Week 1

When: Saturday, February 13

Where: Infinite Energy Arena, Duluth, Georgia

Schedule

  • Glacier Boyz vs. Wild Aces at 8 p.m. ET
  • Beasts vs. Zappers at 9 p.m. ET

All games will be live-streamed on Twitch and broadcast on gaming network VENN.

Rules and Format

Perhaps the most unique aspect of the FCF is that fans join a squad and play the role of both general manager and coach. New rosters are drafted each week—though fans can choose one keeper—with three-man offensive lines and defenses each counting as a single unit. Fantasy enthusiasts will be familiar with this concept, as drafting a single defense/special teams unit is a fantasy standard.

Fans will also vote on which plays will be called in-game. They can increase their voting power by successfully constructing powerful rosters and effective game plans. From the official Fantasy Controlled Football website:

"Call the right play? You get some FanIQ. Draft the top players? Get some more FanIQ. Your FanIQ increases the more you interact with FCF and prove to other fans just how much you know the game. When you hit certain targets of FanIQ - you level up! And as you level up, your voting power increases and all your votes count for more. The more you put in, the more you get out. So get to it!"

Fans can also earn special badges to increase their voting power and even power-ups for their squad. These include 5th-down and Power-Play rewards.

Each game will consist of two 20-minute halves, with the goal being to complete matches in under an hour of real time. Opening possession will be determined by a bout of rock, paper scissors.

There will be no special teams at all in the FCF. Instead of point-after kicking tries, teams will pit a quarterback and a receiver against a defensive back in a showdown to put the ball into the end zone or be denied. One-point attempts will come from the 5-yard line and two-point attempts from the 10.

With no punts, teams will always be in four-down mode.

Other unique rules—a full list can be found here—include the lack of delay-of-game penalties and no backup quarterbacks. Teams will draft two quarterbacks for each squad, but the second quarterback will play every third possession.

Another interesting twist will be the use of multiple video game-style camera angles, from drones and 180-degree VR cams to helmet-mounted cameras with audio.

The 2021 FCF season will consist of three weeks of regular-season play, a playoff week and a championship game.

Kyler Murray, NFC Rout Deshaun Watson, AFC in Madden 2021 NFL Pro Bowl

The NFC came away with a 32-12 win over the AFC in the 2021 Pro Bowl on Sunday in what was perhaps the most unique edition of the annual showcase.

The NFL announced in October it was canceling the Pro Bowl game itself amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, the event would be reimagined and played on Madden NFL 21 using the respective Pro Bowl rosters.

Each conference also had a prominent name take charge of the team for each quarter. Deshaun Watson, Keyshawn Johnson, Derrick Henry and Snoop Dogg represented the AFC, with Kyler Murray, Bubba Wallace, Jamal Adams and Marshawn Lynch guiding the NFC.

Murray was crowned the MVP, at times assuming the dual roles of player and coach for the NFC.

Things unraveled for the AFC in the second quarter when Johnson opposed Wallace.

Johnson is a three-time Pro Bowler and was a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when they won a Super Bowl in 2002. His skills on the physical gridiron didn't translate to the virtual gridiron, though.

Wallace, meanwhile, was scoring at will with the NFC:

By the time Johnson handed the sticks over to Henry, the AFC was sitting in a 26-6 hole. With the quarters limited to only five minutes, that kind of halftime deficit effectively ended the contest.

Things didn't improve for the AFC under Henry's stewardship in the third quarter. Running a no-huddle offense, Adams hit Detroit Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson on the same post route for four straight plays en route to a touchdown.

Adams also subbed himself into the game in the place of Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker and notched a pair of interceptions.

The Pro Bowl will presumably resume its usual festivities in 2022 if the pandemic has slowed enough to allow for large in-person gatherings.

The NFL reinvigorated the buildup to the game by creating the Skills Showdown. The league may have stumbled into what should be another regular feature with Sunday's Madden encounter.

If the Madden Pro Bowl is brought back for next year, the AFC may not extend another invite to Johnson, though.

Deshaun Watson, Marshawn Lynch, Snoop Dogg and More to Compete in Madden 21

The Pro Bowl will have a different style this season, with players and other celebrities competing in Madden 21 on Sunday.

The eight-man competition features two active players on each side as the AFC battles the NFC in video-game form:

Fans can watch the game live at 5 p.m. ET on NFL YouTubeTwitter and Facebook, as well as EA Madden NFL Twitch, while NFL Network will show the event at 8 p.m. ET.

The NFL had announced complete rosters for each conference based on on-field achievements during the regular season, but the game itself was canceled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. There should still be plenty of excitement for fans, with superstars like Deshaun Watson and Derrick Henry as well as fans like Snoop Dogg involved.

"We'll be taking the Pro Bowl to the virtual world of Madden this weekend, and I can't wait to do it big with football fans in my favorite game," Snoop Dogg said in a statement. "I'm a Madden NFL star. So, Kyler and Marshawn better watch out—my team is comin' in to win that championship title for the AFC."

Snoop Dogg reached the final of a Madden tournament against players in April but lost to Baltimore Ravens receiver Marquise Brown in the title game.

Former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch spent time Wednesday working on his hockey skills with NHL free-agent forward Akim Aliu.

Lynch, who donned a Colorado Avalanche practice jersey, didn't look quite as comfortable on skates as he did while rushing for over 10,400 years during his 12-year football career:

The five-time Pro Bowler has struck up a friendship with Aliu, a Nigeria native who co-founded the Hockey Diversity Alliance to address systemic racism within hockey.

"Dreamer X [and] Beastmode kickin' it and watchin' some football," Aliu wrote Sunday on Instagram amid the NFL playoffs. "Hope y'all have a safe MLK weekend.!"

The HDA and the NHL are both working to create grassroots programs in cities with the hope of making the sport of hockey more accessible to underrepresented communities.

"Being realistic, there's things that we can't do without the NHL, and there's things the NHL can't do without us," Aliu told Alex Prewitt of Sports Illustrated on Tuesday about the efforts. "Us being in a quarrel is not positive for either side."

Lynch may not be an NHL star in the making, but maybe some more on-ice work with Aliu will put him on track to make some beer-league appearances in the future.

Alabama running back Najee Harris is the newest addition to Marshawn Lynch's Beast Mode Marketing agency, and it's not the only decision in his NFL preparation that has mirrored the former Seattle Seahawk.

(Warning: Video contains NSFW language.)

Harris also signed with CJ LaBoy and Doug Hendrickson of Wasserman on Tuesday, the latter of whom worked with Lynch during his time in the NFL, according to Liz Mullen of the Sports Business Journal.

The 6'2", 230-pound California native was a crucial part of Alabama's national title run, having left the program as the all-time record holder in rushing yards (3,843), rushing touchdowns (46), yards from scrimmage (4,624) and total touchdowns (57).

Harris has been projected as a late first-round NFL draft pick in 2021 by experts, including ESPN's Todd McShay (h/t Alan Saunders of Steelers Now).

Marshawn Lynch Says He Has NFL Interest, Would Return for Super Bowl Contender

Pro Bowl running back Marshawn Lynch said Tuesday he'd consider another return to the NFL "if the situation is right."

Lynch told TBS' Conan O'Brien a couple of teams reached out to see if he'd be ready to play, and the former Seattle Seahawks star explained he'd only come out of his latest retirement to join a Super Bowl contender:

The 34-year-old California native is currently enjoying his third retirement from football. He previously stepped away from the sport after the 2015 and 2018 seasons only to return.

Lynch rejoined the Seahawks, whom he'd previously played for from 2010 through 2015, late in the 2019 season after the team dealt with a series of injuries to its backfield. He appeared in three games, including a pair of playoff contests, and recorded four touchdowns.

The powerful downhill rusher, affectionately known as Beast Mode thanks to his hard-hitting style, started his career as a first-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2007. He made his first Pro Bowl with Buffalo in 2008 and made four more during his first stint with the Seahawks.

Lynch didn't show much explosiveness during his brief return to Seattle last season, averaging just 2.2 yards across 30 carries, but he could be a useful goal-line weapon for a contender.

Along with the Bills and Hawks, he also spent two seasons with the Oakland Raiders beginning in 2017.

In all, Lynch has put together a resume that at least deserves consideration for the Hall of Fame with over 10,400 rushing yards and a Super Bowl XLVIII ring from his time with the Seahawks.

Marshawn Lynch Tells Peyton Manning He Needed Shot of Hennessy Before Games

Legendary running back Marshawn Lynch told Peyton Manning that he believes in superstitions—and his pregame ritual might be frowned upon in any other workplace.

In a preview for Manning's ESPN show, Peyton's Places, Lynch said that he needed "a shot, a shot and a half" of Hennessy before games, which he kept in his backpack.

Manning, on the other hand, liked to read the game program. To each their own.
