Bodybuiler and bodybuilding coach Jodi Vance died on Thursday from heart failure after attending the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio, per Bailey Gallion of the Columbus Dispatch.
Vance was not competing at the event. She reportedly began feeling sick after attending the Arnold Expo and was taken to the Grant Medical Center, per TMZ Sports, where she died.
Her family released the following statement on Instagram: "Her heart stopped due to complications of severe dehydration. Despite all efforts by the hospital, they were unable to revive her. She was a beautiful person inside and out and she will be missed every single day. This was sudden and unexpected. Please give her family time to process this loss in peace. If anyone takes anything from this, please put your heath first."

Vance's coach, Justin Mihaly, suspected that she had been using dangerous substances ahead of the Arnold Sports Festival despite not having any competitions planned for several months.
"Jodi used two extremely hazardous substances to improve her physique—I assume just for the Arnold Expo—without my knowledge, my approval, without family's knowledge, their approval," he said on Instagram (h/t TMZ).
As a competitor, Vance most recently placed third at the 2024 NPC Battle of Texas in the women's physique division.

The Arnold Sports Festival is back in Columbus, Ohio for 2025, and this year's event might be the biggest yet.
Arnold Schwarzenegger's annual celebration of all things fitness will feature some of the world's best bodybuilders, fitness competitors, strength athletes, martial artists and more. The weekend will, naturally, be headlined by the 2025 Arnold Classic.
The Arnold Classic has become the No. 2 International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) competition in the world, behind only The Olympia. This year's Men's Open competition will feature a top prize of $500,000. That's only $100,000 less than Samson Dauda took home for winning the 2024 Olympia.
Dauda is scheduled to compete this weekend, with a chance to top $1 million in prize money in less than a calendar year. However, he'll feature stiff competition from a star-studded field that features two other former Olympia winners.

Of course, the Arnold Sports Festival will feature much more than the Men's Open. Fans in attendance will have a variety of events to choose from during the festival, which will run from February 27 to March 2. Fans who can't attend can sign up to live stream marquee events at the Arnold Sports Festival's official website.

Arnold Classic Preview
As is always the case, the Men's Open will feature many of the world's top IFBB pros, including Dauda and fellow Olympia champions Derek Lunsford and Brandon Curry. However, reigning champion Hadi Choopan is not scheduled to compete.
Curry, who won in 2019 and 2022, is seeking his third Arnold Classic title. The 41-year-old, who turned pro back in 2011, finished ninth at the 2024 Olympia. However, he believes he's ready to step back into the spotlight and challenge the world's best.
"I think I can duplicate some of my best looks in different aspects," Curry told The Menace podcast with Dennis James (h/t Scott "Future" Felstead of Muscle & Fitness).
Other notable entrants include Andrew Jacked, Shaun Clarida and two-time Classic winner Williams Bonac. Former Classic winner and seven-time Olympia winner Phil Heath believes that all three could challenge for this year's title.
"We got Andrew Jacked and we got another guy that gets pushed to the side sometimes but is definitely a formidable force and that is William Bonac," Heath said in a YouTube video (h/t Belinda Evans of Fitness Volt). "...The Giants Killer, that is Shaun Clarida."
Fans can expect a truly epic competition in the Men's Open, whether it's won by one of the favorites or a dark horse. Those in attendance or tracking the action via live stream will have plenty to enjoy both before and after the main event too.

Despite a field that included three former champions Derek Lunsford, Hadi Choopan and Brandon Cutler, it was Nigerian-born Samson Dauda who heard his name called as the 2024 Mr. Olympia Saturday night in Las Vegas.
It was the third year in a row that a new champion was crowned, a rarity in a contest typically defined by dominance from larger-than-life competitors such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ronnie Coleman, Lee Haney and Phil Heath, among others.
How much did the Nigeria-born Dauda pocket as a result of his victory?
As it turns out, it was more than any other winner in event history, thanks to a record $1.6 million pot.
Results and Prize Money
Samson Dauda ($600,000)
Hadi Choopan ($250,000)
Derek Lunsford ($100,000)
Martin Fitzwater ($40,000)
Andrew Jacked ($35,000)
Top Three Excellence
For the second consecutive year, Dauda, Choopan and Lunsford made up the top three of the open bodybuilding portion of the Mr. Olympia event.
Lunsford finished first in 2023, with Choopan and Dauda as runners-up.
This year, the same three made up the top third of the competition, with Dauda building on his third-place finish and showing up in the best condition of his decade-long career.
He needed to be, too, as Choopan has been the most consistent bodybuilder for the last five years, routinely finishing in the top four of his category.
Lunsford's third-place finish this year could be considered a disappointment for the defending champion, but the quality of competition perhaps makes the result a little more palatable for the American than it otherwise may have been.
It will not be easy for Dauda to repeat as champion. He has put in the work to get to the pinnacle, but he will have to retain that work ethic to fend off the fierce competition who will look to dethrone him in 2025.

Samson Dauda stands atop the bodybuilding world after winning the Mr. Olympia contest Saturday night in Las Vegas.

2025 Predictions
It would not be surprising if Dauda repeated as Mr. Olympia in 2025.
A tireless worker who arrived in Las Vegas in the best shape of his life, he wrested the crown away from the two previous champions in an emphatic statement from the 32-year-old.
It also would be equally unsurprising if he did not repeat, thanks to the recent trend in the competition.
For decades, the Mr. Olympia event was defined by its repeat winners. Arnold Schwarzenegger captured seven straight titles. Ronnie Coleman set the benchmark at eight wins. Dorian Yates, Phil Heath and Lee Haney all won multiple times.
Since Mamdouh "Big Ramy" Elssbiay won in 2020 and 2021, the event has seen a different winner each year.
That is a testament to the depth and quality of the competition.
Choopan is, arguably, the most consistent bodybuilder in the sport and could have earned the nod from judges in each of the last two years.
The one name worth watching is the fourth-place finisher and internet personality Martin Fitzwater.
"The Martian" had great energy and was a fan favorite in Vegas. With a year of continuing to fine-tune his body and work on his overall presentation, he could finish in the top two and pose a legitimate threat to the title.
With all of that said, Choopan is such a consistent top-four competitor that he would have to be considered one of the early favorites to win next year's event.
2025 Prediction: Choopan wins his second Mr. Olympia

Mika Sihvonen once again reigned supreme in the open bodybuilding event at the 2024 IFBB Pro World Championships, which runs in tandem with the Arnold Classic Europe in Madrid.
According to Evolution of Bodybuilding's Kevin Grech, Sihvonen beat out Ilya Lukovets of Belarus to retain his crown in the competition. Eddy Wilson, the runner-up in 2023, settled for fourth place.

Sihvonen was the second-place finisher in 2019, 2020 and 2021 before coming out on top in 2022, which kicked off his three-peat.
Men's physique saw a changing of the guard with France's Thierry Bayala standing tall in an event that came to be dominated by Dmytro Horobets. Horobets had reeled off four titles in a row. On Saturday, the spotlight shone on Bayala, who was the runner-up for the first three of Horobets' wins. The Frenchman wasn't in the field at the 2023 Arnold Classic Europe.
Tomislav Strmecki made a strong impression in his debut showing as a pro at the Arnold Classic Europe. Last year, he was victorious as an amateur and this weekend he bested Ahmed Aminu in classic physique. Yuri Valentin, the 2023 winner, fell back to third place.
Kimberly Percival returned to the top of the podium in women's bikini fitness. The 2021 winner, she had to settle for second in 2022 and 2023. Melissa Seaforth, Percival's compatriot from Antigua and Barbuda, suffered the reverse fate as she slipped to fifth place after finishing third a year ago.

The bodybuilding world crowned a first-time Mr. Olympia champion Saturday in Las Vegas as Samson Dauda bested one of the most unpredictable fields in recent memory to secure the career-defining victory.
The win came after several callouts from officials who wanted to take every possible moment to ensure they had made a final decision and selected the right winner.
In a decision that left no doubt that The Nigerian Lion was the clear winner, the 32-year-old was named the People's Champion of this year's event, an award reserved for the athlete receiving the most fan votes.
Accompanying the first-place medal and people's champion trophy and belt was the largest payday for a winner in event history in the form of an announced $600,000 check.
We have a new champ! Samson Dauda wins the 2024 Mr. Olympia with a record 1st prize of $600,000.
Hadi Choopan, the runner-up for the second year in a row, received $250,000.
For the Iranian-born bodybuilder, it was a second disappointing outing at the event. Realistically, the 2022 champion was one or two judges' decisions away from being a three-time champion and etching his name in the history books as the most decorated champion since the end of Phil Heath's run of dominance.
Hadi Choopan came in second place in the 2024 Mr. Olympia Men's Open and received a prize of $250,000.
Congratulations to The Persian Wolf and all the people of #Iran for this great achievement.

Instead, he continued what has become a career of "close but no cigar" moments that also saw him finish third twice (2019, 2021) and fourth (2020).
The 2023 winner, Derek Lunsford, failed to successfully defend his title and finished third in this year's event.
It marks the third year in a row that the defending champion has not repeated, a testament to the depth of the sport right now and the quality of legitimate contenders to the Mr. Olympia title.
Martin Fitzwater, another fan-favorite in the event, finished in fourth place and provided fans with a look at an athlete who may well be a force in the sport in the coming months and years.

The moment he was announced as the victor, he was emotional, dropping to his knees and breaking down in tears before he hoisted the most coveted prize in his sport.
It was a historic feat beyond the first-time win, too.
Dauda's victory ensured that the Mr. Olympic title would return to the United Kingdom for the first time since Dorian Yates' six-year run atop the industry ended in 1997.

Saturday's results marked the second year in a row that 2022 champion Choopan finished in second place. It also meant that the 2023 champion, Lunsford, fell to third place this year.
Dauda was not only the judge's choice for the win but also was named the People's Champion and "received a championship belt and trophy."
After several callouts and great uncertainty as to which competitor would ultimately impress the judges enough to earn their selection as the winner, Dauda emerged victoriously, announcing his arrival at the peak of the bodybuilding world with a win on its grandest stage.
