Dodgers' Kiké Hernández Trolls Noah Lyles on Video After World Series Win: 'Suck It'

Enrique Hernández is the latest athlete to throw Noah Lyles' world champions comment back in his face after the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in Game 5 of the World Series to win the eighth title in franchise history.

During the postgame celebration in the locker room, Hernández trolled the Olympic gold medalist by telling him to "suck it" after calling the Dodgers World Series champions.

Lyles' original comment was from August 2023 at the World Athletics Championships when he spoke about watching the NBA Finals and being annoyed that the Denver Nuggets, who defeated the Miami Heat to win their first title, were described as world champions.

"World champion of what? The United States? Don't get me wrong, I love the US, at times, but that ain't the world," he said. "That is not the world. We are the world. We have almost every country out here fighting, thriving, putting on their flag to show that they are represented. There ain't no flags in the NBA."

Lyles' comment understandably drew the ire of many within the NBA, including Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard and Devin Booker.

Durant did get his chance to silence Lyles by being part of Team USA basketball at the 2024 Olympics when they defeated France to win the gold medal, so he is a world champion in every respect using Lyles' logic.

MLB has called its championship round the World Series since 1903 so that at least gives the league some leeway in the discussion about what constitutes a world champion.

The main thing that Lyles conveniently ignored in his assessment is a league like the NBA or MLB features the highest level of play for their sport in the world, therefore they can be called world champions.

Hernández and the Dodgers earned their moment of celebration. They won the most games in MLB during the regular season, staved off elimination in the NLDS against the San Diego Padres, got the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history in Game 1, and pulled off the largest comeback in a World Series clincher in Game 5.

The Los Angeles Police Department arrested 12 people during unrest stemming from celebrations of the Los Angeles Dodgers' World Series win on Wednesday night, Clara Harter, Gustavo Arellano and Joseph Serna reported for the Los Angeles Times.

Videos posted to social media appeared to show a Metro bus being set on fire in Echo Park, near Dodger Stadium.

A bus operator and five passengers were able to leave the bus before the fire, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority said in a statement (h/t NBC News.)

Local news also shared images of, and the LAPD confirmed, looting at multiple stores during the celebrations.

The LAPD announced multiple dispersal orders on Wednesday night, including one directed toward what the police described as "a hostile crowd that is throwing fireworks and projectiles at officers" around 1:45 a.m local time.

LAPD Officer Drake Madison told Harter, Arellano and Serna in an email that "less-lethal munitions were deployed for crowd control on several hostile and violent crowds."

The police later made two arrests for misdemeanor failure to disperse, four for misdemeanor receiving stolen property and six for felony commercial burglary, according to the LAPD.

Madison told the Los Angeles Times that there would be "investigations in the coming days" to identify other possible arrests.

The Dodgers, after facing a 5-0 deficit as late as the fifth inning during Game 5 on Wednesday night in the Bronx, recovered to claim a 7-6 World Series-clinching win over the New York Yankees.

The comeback made the Dodgers the first team in World Series history to clinch a championship after recovering from a deficit of five or more runs.

The Dodgers plan to celebrate the victory with a Friday morning parade through downtown Los Angeles followed by a celebration at Dodger Stadium.

If you've ever wondered what a clubhouse celebration looks like after a team wins the World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers proved it's not dissimilar to a college frat party.

Video from the Dodgers' locker room after their 7-6 win over the New York Yankees showed coolers and buckets of empty beer bottles, champagne bottles, World Series pennants and a group of very happy people.

The Dodgers captured their eighth World Series title in Game 5 at Yankee Stadium in thrilling fashion. The Yankees were in control with a 5-0 lead and four no-hit innings from Gerrit Cole to start the game.

Things unraveled for the Yankees in the fifth inning with two errors and an infield hit by Mookie Betts on a soft grounder to first baseman Anthony Rizzo that could have ended the inning with no runs scored if Cole covered the bag.

Los Angeles took advantage of the miscues with five runs in the frame to tie the score. The Yankees went back on top 6-5 on a sacrifice fly from Giancarlo Stanton in the bottom of the sixth, but the Dodgers got two in the eighth on sac flies from Gavin Lux and Betts.

Walker Buehler closed the game with a perfect ninth inning for the Dodgers to seal the win. The celebration was on in the Bronx at that point, with the visitors toasting their championship inside Yankee Stadium.

Fortunately, the locker room was covered in plastic so the cleanup from the Dodgers' party may not take too long.

The Dodgers are the first road team to clinch a World Series title at Yankee Stadium since the Marlins in 2003.

Dodgers Parade 2024: Route, Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info After World Series Win

Los Angeles will be partying on Friday.

The Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series on Wednesday night, erasing a 5-0 deficit to secure a 7-6 victory in Game 5. Freddie Freeman, who blasted four home runs in the series and had a two-run single in the deciding game, was named World Series MVP.

So it's time to celebrate, with the Dodgers announcing that the parade—and a ticketed event at Dodger Stadium—will be held on Friday in DTLA. You can find all the details of the event below:

Date: Friday, Nov. 1

Time: 11 a.m. PT/2 p.m. ET

TV Info/Live Stream: MLB Network

Route: Starting at City Hall and ending at Flower & 5th

This is one of the few times that Angelenos won't be caught complaining about the horrendous traffic.

The last time the Dodgers won the World Series, in 2020, the city was unable to hold a parade due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You better believe Los Angeles is ready to make up for that missed opportunity.

"I think for some of the guys that were here—Kiké [Hernández], Clayton [Kershaw], the coaches, Austin Barnes, I think Blake Treinen, just some guys that were here with us—we want that parade," manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Monday. "We never got a chance to celebrate with the city of Los Angeles. That's something of an incentive."

Video: Shohei Ohtani Celebrates 1st Career World Series Win as Dodgers Beat Yankees

Coming into the 2024 season, Shohei Ohtani had just about every major accomplishment an MLB player could want, besides one: a World Series win.

The superstar finally has his first championship after the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the New York Yankees 7-6 in Game 5 on Wednesday.

Following the milestone, Ohtani and his teammates celebrated accordingly, as beer and champagne flowed in the locker room.

Ohtani spent his first six seasons with the Los Angeles Angels and didn't reach the postseason once. This offseason, the Dodgers handed him a historic 10-year, $700 million contract in hopes he could lead the organization to its eighth World Series title.

It took him just one season to bring another championship to Los Angeles.

Ohtani had a season for the history books, racking up 54 home runs and 130 RBI with a .310 batting average to go along with his 59 stolen bases to lead the Dodgers to the best record in baseball (98-64).

His numbers tapered off in the postseason, but he did enough to help Los Angeles take down the Yankees.

Ohtani has four All-Stars, a pair of Silver Slugger Awards and two MVPs, and he'll more than likely earn another MVP this year. Now, he's a world champion and is only looking to continue leaving his mark on baseball.

What's more, Ohtani will be back on the mound in 2025. He couldn't pitch in 2024 while recovering from elbow surgery, but is expected to return to pitching next season, adding just another weapon to the Dodgers rotation.

Dodgers' Freddie Freeman Wins 2024 World Series MVP After Historic HR Streak vs. NYY

Freddie Freeman hit four home runs in five games against the New York Yankees, serving as the catalyst for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they won the World Series four games to one.

For his outstanding performance, Freeman was named the World Series MVP on Wednesday.

The first baseman set a record for consecutive World Series games with a home run, homering six times in as many games dating back to the 2021 World Series when he was with the Atlanta Braves.

Freeman had one of the biggest hits of the postseason in Game 1, a walk-off grand slam to give the Dodgers a 6-3 win in extra innings.

He then homered in Game 2 to give the Dodgers some insurance in the third inning in a 4-2 win, and his Game 3 home run came in the first inning when he hit a two-run shot that accounted for half of Los Angeles' runs. He had a two-run home run in the first inning of Game 4, though it wasn't quite as impactful given the Yankees' eventual 11-4 win.

While his home run streak ended in Game 5, he had a two-run RBI single in the fifth inning to help the Dodgers spark a comeback.

Freeman ended the World Series with four home runs, 12 RBI and just one strikeout with a .300 batting average. His 12 RBI marked a World Series record.

Freeman came into the World Series battling a sprained ankle and missed Game 4 of the NLCS due to the issue. Manager Dave Roberts even said Freeman's swing was "not right" this postseason. If his ankle was bothering him at all in the World Series, he did an outstanding job making sure fans and his teammates had no idea.

Freeman, in his 15th MLB season, now has one more accolade to add to his extensive resume. The eight-time All-Star, three-time Silver Slugger and 2020 National League MVP is once again a World Series champion, and this time he's the MVP.

Shohei Ohtani, Dodgers Win World Series vs. Yankees, Thrill MLB Fans with G5 Comeback

How would you describe the Los Angeles Dodgers' title-clinching, 7-6 comeback win—after they trailed 5-0 following the first three innings—over the New York Yankees in Game 5 of the World Series?

Here are a few suggestions. Mix and match at your own discretion.

Wild. Wacky. Bonkers. Bananas. Incredible. Electrifying. Mystifying. Shocking. Stunning. Memorable. Magical. Heartbreaking. Iconic. Astonishing. Remarkable. Jaw-dropping. Epic. Outrageous. Exciting. Exhilarating. Unbelievable. Outstanding. Demure (OK, definitely not demure, just making sure you were still following along).

There were heroes for the Dodgers (Freddie Freeman yet again, Mookie Betts, Teoscar Hernández, basically the entire Los Angeles pitching staff) and goats for a Yankees team that crumbled defensively, making just about every conceivable mistake possible—even catcher interference and a balk!

We'll break down every key moment from the game in a bit. But first, here were some of the adjectives—and reactions—that social media offered as the Dodgers pulled off a comeback for the ages:

Game 5 played out in four very distinct chapters.

The first was New York's offensive explosion in the first three innings, highlighted by Aaron Judge's two-run homer in the bottom of the first, Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s solo shot one batter later and Giancarlo Stanton's dinger in the third.

The second chapter was a wild top of the fifth for the Dodgers.

New York's horrible fielding—highlighted by Judge's surprising drop in center field, an Anthony Volpe throwing error and Gerrit Cole's failure to cover first base on what should have been an inning-ending groundout—opened the door for a big frame, and the Dodgers pounced.

The red-hot Freddie Freeman drove in two with a single, followed by Hernández's two-run double:

The third chapter was a more subdued version of the second.

After Stanton gave the Yankees the lead in the bottom of the sixth with a sacrifice fly, the Dodgers loaded the bases twice in the top of the eighth inning. Both times, sacrifice flies—first from Gavin Lux and then from Betts after Shohei Ohtani reached base on catcher interference—gave the Dodgers their first lead of the game.

And then there was the fourth and final chapter, and it was the most anticlimactic. With six outs remaining, the Yankees couldn't manage to push a run across, as the Dodgers' bullpen—which was called upon to handle 7.2 innings in this game—silenced the very same offense that hammered starter Jack Flaherty.

So deep did the bullpen have to dig that closer Blake Treinen threw 2.1 innings, while Game 3 starter Walker Buehler was called upon to get the save.

That's how wonderfully weird this game was, at least from L.A.'s perspective. In New York, the choice of adjectives will skew definitively more negative. We'll leave those up to your own imagination.

Yankees Fan Ejected from WS G4: 'We're Going to 'D' Up' If Ball Is 'In Our Area'

Even though the New York Yankees kept their season alive with an 11-4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 4 of the 2024 World Series on Tuesday night, the biggest story coming out of the game was the fans who tried to steal a ball out of Mookie Betts' glove.

The play occurred in the bottom of the first inning when Betts caught a foul ball off the bat of Gleyber Torres when a fan sitting in the front row grabbed the Dodgers star's arm and glove attempting to dislodge the ball.

The fan, Austin Capobianco, told ESPN's Jesse Rogers he was trying to "D" up any play that came into his area.

"We always joke about the ball in our area," Capobianco said. "We're not going to go out of our way to attack. If it's in our area, we're going to 'D' up. Someone defends, someone knocks the ball. We talk about it. We're willing to do this."

At least Capobianco got his 15 minutes because it wound up costing him a prime seat at Yankee Stadium in the World Series. He and John Peter, who was sitting next to him and also grabbed at Betts' glove, were immediately ejected by security.

Betts downplayed the situation after the game.

"It doesn't matter, we lost. It's irrelevant. I'm fine; he's fine; everything's cool. We lost the game," he told reporters. "That's what I'm focused on. Turn the page."

Per Rogers, Capobianco said he and Peter were told they could attend Game 5 on Wednesday. The Yankees didn't confirm whether or not that is true.

The Dodgers and Yankees will play Game 5 at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday at 8:08 p.m. ET. Los Angeles can clinch the series with a win. New York needs a victory to send the series back to Dodger Stadium.

Mookie Betts: Yankees Fans Interfering with Catch 'Irrelevant' in Dodgers WS G4 Loss

A pair of New York Yankees fans blatantly interfered with Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts while he attempted to field a fly ball during the first inning of Tuesday's 11-4 win for the Bronx Bombers, going so far as to pry the ball out of his glove.

After the game, Betts didn't seem interested in discussing the incident and didn't feel it had any impact on the game.

"When it comes to the first-inning play, it doesn't matter," he said. "We lost. It's irrelevant. I'm fine, he's fine, everything's cool. We lost the game, and that's what I'm kinda focused on. We gotta turn the page and get ready for tomorrow."

Both of the fans involved in the incident were ejected.

"I've never seen anything like it," Dodgers rookie pitcher Ben Casparius told reporters after the game regarding the situation. "It's pretty interesting. It was obviously very early in the game so I think it kind of set the tone."

Despite the loss, the Dodgers still hold a 3-1 advantage in the series. Game 5 will be back at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday, with first pitch scheduled for 8:08 p.m. ET (Fox). Jack Flaherty is scheduled to face Gerrit Cole in a rematch of the Game 1 starters.

Shohei Ohtani, Dodgers Bullpen Disappoint MLB Fans in World Series G4 Loss to Yankees

There will be no sweep in this year's Fall Classic.

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost Game 4 of the World Series to the New York Yankees 11-4 on Tuesday, meaning they'll need at least five games to claim a championship.

Things got off to a good start for Los Angeles as Freddie Freeman hit a two-run home run—his fourth of the series—to make it an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. New York quickly answered with an RBI from Alex Verdugo in the second and a grand slam from Anthony Volpe in the third to give the Yankees their first lead since Game 1.

The Dodgers made it close in the fifth after Will Smith homered and Tommy Edman scored on a fielder's choice, but Austin Wells' sixth-inning home run made it a 6-4 game before the Yankees put up a five-spot in the eighth to put the game out of reach.

Shohei Ohtani suffered a shoulder injury in Game 2 but played in Game 3 and on Tuesday. The star couldn't get much going, finishing 1-for-4 with a strikeout.

It was a bullpen game for Los Angeles as reliever Ben Casparius started on the mound. From there, the Dodgers looked to Daniel Hudson, Landon Knack and Brent Honeywell. Los Angeles' pitching staff gave up 11 earned runs and nine hits and picked up just four strikeouts.

After the game, fans were disappointed with the bullpen performance and lamented Ohtani's shoulder ailment.

https://twitter.com/Call_Me_Mookie/status/1851455700741861730

The good news for the Dodgers is that winning the first three games of the series means they're still just one win away from winning the World Series and the Yankees have a massive deficit to overcome.

The bad news is New York's bats got hot on Tuesday as it scored double-digit runs for the first time this postseason and will have Gerrit Cole on the mound in Game 5.

The series will stay in the Bronx on Wednesday as Los Angeles looks to end things.
