The Olympic Games are coming to Los Angeles in 2028, and hip-hop icon Dr. Dre is hoping not only to perform but also to compete.

"I'm try'na try out for the Olympics in 2028," Dre told Nischelle Turner of Entertainment Tonight, per TMZ. When asked which event he'd compete in, the 59-year-old responded, "Archery. I'm dead ass serious. Yup."

Dre went on to reveal that he's been an archer for decades, dating back to when he was a member of a team in junior high school.

While archery took a backseat when he embarked on his career in music, his interest was reignited recently when his son bought him targets and equipment for Father's Day.

"I have it set up in my back yard and I heard qualifying for the Olympics is 77 feet. I practice at 90," he said.

Dre has four years to continue working on his craft so he can earn a spot on the Olympic team. It would be an incredible accomplishment for the seven-time Grammy Award winner to add "Olympic competitor" to his long list of titles.

The Republic of Korea claimed an eighth gold medal in a row in the women's archery event at the 2016 Rio Olympics on Sunday. An already highly decorated squad saw off tough competition from Russia to win the final 5-1.

Meanwhile, Chinese Taipei secured bronze after beating an Italian squad unfortunate to let a lead slip against Russia at the semifinal stage.

Recap

Italy missed a great chance to send world champion Russia out. The Italians built a 3-1 lead, but simply couldn't hold on.

Consecutive scores of 52 in both the third and fourth sets proved enough to send Russia through. It meant a meeting with seven-time gold-medal winners the Republic of Korea.

The favourites progressed after they saw off Chinese Taipei by an emphatic scoreline of 5-1. A strong start was the key to the defending champion's success, according to former Team GB Olympian Alison Williamson:

Taipei went four up in their bronze-medal encounter with Italy but soon saw that advantage halved. However, Taipei managed to see the match out, eventually triumphing with a 5-3 score—good enough for bronze as Italy still rued their earlier costly misses.

That left the stage set for Korea's meeting with Russia, hoping to make it an incredible eight out of eight gold medals. The former began by shooting a 59 en route to a 2-0 lead early.

The dominance may have been expected, but archer Crystal Gauvin still felt privileged to be watching the best the sport has to offer:

It was soon 4-0 as the Korean squad held their nerve in front of target. They found 10s with a quartet of arrows to stay firmly in control.

Finally, they had three arrows to make their grip on yet another gold count. They duly did just that to make it eight in a row.

Korea fired their way to the men's team archery gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday with a world-class display of ruthless aggression of the highest order.

The United States obtained silver after falling to a 6-0 defeat in the final match against the brilliant Korean unit of Woojin Kim, Seungyun Lee and Bonchan Ku.

World champion Ku was at the top of his game as he led his team to victory, finding six perfect 10s in the final match.

Australia claimed a shock bronze against China as the team from Down Under won its first-ever Olympic archery medal.

Korea have won every World Cup team event this year and were overwhelming favourites for gold. The Koreans held the Olympic title eight years ago but surrendered the gold medal to Italy in London in 2012.

Here are the confirmed medals for the event:

The Koreans shot out of the blocks to hit a perfect score with their opening three arrows in the final and completed an unbeatable score of 60 to win Set 1. It was the first perfect set of Saturday across the full competition.

The American men looked stunned by the standard but struck back with three nines; however, an upgraded shot gave Korea consecutive sets.

Team USA continued to fight and found their range, but Korea produced a level rarely seen on the world stage or beyond.

Earlier in the day, Korea took control of the first semi-final against Australia, scoring 59 from their first six arrows as the Aussies lost Set 1.

The team in yellow and green struck back in Set 2 to post a strong score of 58, but the Koreans showed their world-class ability, as they inexplicably equaled the Aussie score, edging the advantage as one arrow was upgraded to a perfect 10.

The Korean team were in fine fettle throughout the match and stormed forward to the third set, streaking to the gold-medal match—as Australia had no answer to their creativity.

The United States were exceptional in the second semi against China, as their archers produced a high level of competition. Team USA won in straight sets to force their way to the gold-medal final.

The bronze-medal match saw Australia hit 56 with their opening six arrows, and it was enough to claim first blood as the Chinese look deflated.

Taylor Worth found a 10 at the right time to propel the Aussies forward. However, China responded against a team they were expected to beat.

China threw down the gauntlet and put Australia on the back foot, but a cliffhanger in Set 4 gave the underdogs a shock bronze. Worth once again stepped up to the plate to hit the winning arrow in an outstanding final set, winning 6-2—the country's first-ever Olympic archery medal success.

Korean standards were unbeatable on Saturday, and there was little surprise when they prevailed after a great season of competition.

The United States were worthy of second place, and they produced a level that normally would have claimed gold in years gone by.
