Getafe Confirm Angel Rodriguez's €10M Buyout Clause Amid Barcelona Rumours

Feb 13, 2020

Getafe President Angel Torres has confirmed that striker Angel Rodriguez has a €10 million buyout clause amid rumours he is wanted by Barcelona.

Following injuries to Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele, Barca may be able to make an emergency signing outside of the transfer window, and Rodriguez is among the forwards they have been linked with.

Torres told Catalunya Radio (h/t Marca): "It's not a problem with his release clause [if Barcelona show interest]. I can't deny a boy that has performed spectacularly for us [the chance to go to] such a big club. The clause is €10 million."

The president said he does not think the Catalan giants will make a move for Rodriguez, though, and added:

"I have a very good relationship with Barcelona, and I don't have any problem with them. They've been unlucky enough to have had injuries to two forwards.

"If there was something, no one from Barcelona has made contact with me as of yet. If there was interest, they would've done; I have a direct feed with the president [Josep Maria Bartomeu] and [assistant sporting director] Ramon Planes."

Barca will be without Suarez until May after he had knee surgery in January, while Dembele has been ruled out for six months after he had surgery on his hamstring on Tuesday. As a result of those injuries, Barcelona may be eligible to recruit another attacker:

Rodriguez will be 33 in April, but he's enjoying an excellent campaign. In La Liga, only Lionel Messi, Suarez, Real Madrid's Karim Benzema and Levante's Roger Marti have scored more than his nine goals this season. He's incredibly effective coming off the bench:

In all competitions, the striker has 13 goals and two assists to his name despite making just 11 starts. It's the third season running he's hit that goal tally for Getafe, so this campaign is set to be his best yet for the club.

His departure could significantly derail Getafe's bid to finish in La Liga's top four—they are third after 23 matches—but if Barca activate his clause, there's little they can do.

Madrid's Top 2 Grow Whilst Getafe and Rayo Sink Towards Relegation

It was a mini-Madrid derby when Los Blancos made the short trip to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez. There isn't the same prestige or history in the matchas with their meeting with Atleticobut there's still an added importance.

The recent rise of Atleti and their ability to compete with their bitter rivals in one-off games, has added extra spice to their encounters.

At the top of the table, Madrid's top two clubs are level on points matching Barcelona. The race for the league title is very much on, even if the squad depths vary greatly.

For the last two seasons there has been four Madrid-based clubs in the Primera Division. That may not be the case next year.

Rayo Vallecano plays with similar traits to those at the top of the league; the second highest in possession, fourth-highest pass completion rate and fifth highest shots per game, via Whoscored.com.

But some statistics let them down. No team has conceded as many goals or gathered as many red cards.

Paco Jemez's team press aggressively and high up the pitch, perhaps with better players his ethos would receive greater reward.

The 6-0 demolition by Barcelona won't be how the side is judged at the end of the season. Staying in the top flight will determine the success of the campaign.

With two wins in the last 11 league matches, Rayo are four points from safety. Though it's not just the lack of wins causing problems they can't seem to draw games.

They have won as many matches as both Malaga and Elche, but sit four and six points away from them respectively. Rayo need to start getting results in any manner in order to clamber up the table.

At Getafe it's their inability to find the net, which could see them ultimately drop down a division. They have scored just two goals in the last nine games and they both came in the same match with Real Sociedad.

Pedro Leon is the leading goalscorer with six and he is a winger. The lack of a consistent poacher in front of goal could cost the club their survival.

This was highlighted further in the game with Real Madrid. The whites were clinical as Jese and Karim Benzema produced cool and composed finishes.

Adrian Colunga seemed like he was going to take advantage of a Pepe mistake, but the Portuguese defender made up a lot of ground to catch the forward and produce a superb block.

As the second half began, Colunga was guilty of another wasted opportunity as Getafe were on the counter. It wasn't entirely surprising that he was substituted for Angel Lafita only six minutes after the miss.

When Juan Rodriguez failed to connect properly from a set-piece, it became glaringly obvious why Getafe haven't scored in four matches.

Real Madrid rarely got out of second gear as they controlled the game with ease and under little pressure.

With Madrid's opening two goals coming from inside the area, the Getafe back-line appeared to drop deeper and they were slow to close down shots from outside the box.

Angel di Maria gave them a warning sign, when his shot was saved by Miguel Angel Moya. Then, Luka Modric connected superbly with one to give Madrid a 3-0 victory.

Neither Rayo Vallecano nor Getafe would have expected to beat Spain's big two this weekend, but they will have been disappointed in the manner of their defeats.

Both clubs have different difficulties that they need to rectify sooner rather than later, otherwise they will be facing life in the Segunda.

Getafe Defender Alexis Ruano Suffers Unfortunate Testicle Injury

Men of the world...it could be worse. Just ask Getafe defender Alexis Ruano.

Getafe as a whole had a rough night during their Copa del Rey match with Barcelona on Thursday. Lionel Messi tore them to pieces and their lights went out to compound a 6-0 defeat on aggregate.

But for Ruano, he added injury to injury in, perhaps, the worst place possible.

According to beIN Sports, Ruano suffered broken veins in his testicles during the match. He was substituted off the pitch in the 36th minute.

The gut-wrenching imagery also was confirmed by Getafe manager Luis Garcia, who, according to the same report, described it as such:

"Alexis has a testicle like this," he told reporters while gesturing the size of a handball with his hands. "Some veins were broken. It's nothing serious. When I entered the changing room, I was scared, but it's not serious. I've never seen anything like it."

Men will scoff at Garcia's it's-nothing-serious assessment, but at least he's optimistic about his defender's well-being.

Scouting Guide

Having failed to make the grade at Paris Saint-Germain after three years in the reserve team, this cultured central midfielder has rebuilt his career on the outskirts of Madrid and is desperate for another opportunity at one of Europe's top footballing institutions.

The French-born Morocco international has been a fixture in the Getafe team for the past two seasons, where he has cemented his reputation as a quality midfielder.

Assured in the pass and equipped with great vision to play in his teammates, Barrada's other great strength is at set pieces. He takes a mean free kick, better than Cristiano Ronaldo according to many, and this weapon makes him an even more fearsome prospect to play against.

Where to Next?

Barrada's impressive form over the course of 2012-13 has caught the eye of several teams from across Europe.

TalkSPORT states that Arsenal and north London rivals Tottenham are in the race for Barrada's signature. The radio station furthermore names a third option—Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow—who would join the Premier League clubs in hunting the attack-minded midfielder.

Introduction

The latest team to be named Bleacher Report’s La Liga BBVA Team of the Week is Getafe C.F. S.A.D. The club was recently in the news after losing to a Cristiano Ronaldo-inspired Real Madrid.

Getafe defeated Real Madrid in the beginning of the current La Liga season, and the club has an interesting history that deserves to be shared with the B/R readers.

History

According to the official webpage, Getafe was created in 1945 as Club Getafe Deportivo. The club spent most of its 30 years between the third and second division.

During its first 30 years, Getafe was a club that did not receive much publicity. Regardless, Getafe continued its upward mobility in Spanish football. It received its present name of Getafe CF in 1976, when the club was inscribed in the Spanish Superior Sports Council.

In spite of the name change, Getafe remained in the second division. The beginning of the 2000 decade saw the club ascend to the First Division of La Liga for the first time in its existence.

Getafe was able to participate in La Copa Del Rey in the semifinals. The history of Getafe was written by Bernd Schuster and Quique Sanchez Flores.

Getafe participated in the quarterfinals of the 2007/08 UEFA Cup with seven victories, three draws and two losses in 12 matches. The most significant victory for Getafe was when it left AEK scoreless on February 21, 2008.

The club participated in the group stage of the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League with three wins, three losses and two draws within eight matches. Its worst defeat was not scoring in a match against Stuttgart.

Pablo Hernandez and Esteban Granero of Spain are the top scorers for Getafe in UEFA Competitions. Cata Diaz from Argentina and Albin of Uruguay made the most appearances for Getafe.

Getafe is currently No. 91 in the 2012/13 UEFA Ranking scale.

It stands in 12th place in the 2012/13 La Liga BBVA Division table, having won seven, drawn five and lost nine matches with 25 goals for and 35 goals against.

The club's goal differential is currently minus-10 and its total points are 26.

Conclusion

Getafe will face Deportivo La Coruna on February 2, 2013. It remains to be seen what will transpire in this match.

It's All Uphill From Here For Real Madrid

Nov 29, 2008

"It's hard to win a game where they score against you in the first few minutes of each half," said Guti, summing up the impotence felt by Real Madrid at Getafe.

More importantly, it illustrates why the recent mini-run of two 1-0 victories (against Recreativo and BATE) was a mirage and bodes extremely badly for the next lot of league games against the top-placed teams.

The week has been somewhat overshadowed by Ramón Calderón's announcement that a couple of "young, promising" players will be signed in January when the transfer window opens, plus two top stars in the summer.

Given that he's clearly trying to shield himself from the ire of the socios at the upcoming Annual General Meeting next Sunday, this really does very little for the current squad in the current season.

Add to this the plague of injuries decimating the side (Sneijder and Torres had to be substituted in the first half hour) and the next few weeks, or even months, look very bleak. The medical staff and physios have been added to the close scrutiny everyone else is under.

The Spanish league this season has been likened to the Tour de France, and December sees the Alpine stages as many of the "top" teams face each other. Next week, it's Sevilla, followed by Barcelona, Valencia and Villareal.

Barcelona have already made short work of Sevilla with a 3-0 away win and look to be running away with the Championship. The shape that Real Madrid is in means that they'll struggle to compete for a Champions League place come next May.

Things have got so bad that Casillas had possibly his worst game in years. He looked insecure every time he came out for the ball and was particularly uninspired in Getafe's second goal. He even conceded a penalty that the referee did not see (or maybe he took pity on him).

And yet, even after going two down at the beginning of the second half, Real might have got back in the game as Guti found Saviola for his first league goal for his team. Getafe looked shaken for all of five minutes when Raúl could have equalised.

It was not to be (nor would it have reflected the relative merits of both sides). Eight minutes from time Uche made it 3-1, meaning Real Madrid are losing sight of the leading rider as they are slowly absorbed into the ranks of the peloton.
