Lil Wayne will not be performing at Super Bowl LIX on Sunday in his hometown of New Orleans.

But he will be releasing new music soon.

The rapper revealed his new album, Tha Carter VI, will be released on June 6, per Chart Data. The Thursday update from Chart Data also noted that the last three installments of the album series all debuted in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200.

This comes after Lil Wayne took to Instagram Stories on Tuesday and revealed he will not be in attendance at the Super Bowl.

"Y'all know I'm not going to be there this week, which means I guess there's a seat to fill," he said (h/t Ilana Kaplan of PEOPLE). "Shout out to New Orleans, but I've been working on something very special. I got something exciting coming for you Thursday, the 6th. Until then... I'm chillin'."

Seeing how the rapper is from New Orleans, where the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will play on Sunday, there was some thought he could be the halftime performer.

However, the NFL instead went with Kendrick Lamar.

Lil Wayne previously spoke about his perceived snub on The Skip Bayless Show last month:

While the 42-year-old surely wasn't thrilled that the NFL didn't choose him for the halftime show, Lamar has been on top of the music world this year. He has made no shortage of headlines due to his beef with Drake and will now be on one of the biggest stages music has to offer shortly after his triumph at the Grammy Awards on Sunday.

He won five Grammys during the show, including both record of the year and song of the year for Not Like Us, which was a diss track directed at Drake.

As for Lil Wayne, there will surely be a number of new hits on his upcoming album given his overall track record.

Musician Lil Wayne confirmed that he won't be attending Sunday's Super Bowl in New Orleans, his hometown, during a message on his Instagram Stories this past Tuesday.

Lil Wayne, who is from New Orleans, previously spoke about being snubbed as the Super Bowl halftime performer in favor of Kendrick Lamar during an appearance on The Skip Bayless Show last month.

While Lil Wayne performing in his hometown would have a nostalgic choice, Lamar is currently the biggest rapper going, fresh off of winning both song and record of the year at the Grammys for the Drake diss track, "Not Like Us." He was a logical choice for the NFL given his place in the zeitgeist over the past year.

NFL officials are letting their voices be heard amid conspiracy theories that one team received favorable treatment throughout the 2024 season.

Ahead of Sunday's Super Bowl LIX between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, NFL Referees Association executive director Scott Green released a statement saying, "It is insulting and preposterous to hear conspiracy theories that somehow 17 officiating crews consisting of 138 officials are colluding to assist one team."

The NFLRA thanked commissioner Roger Goodell for his comments on Monday about the officials' "unwavering dedication to fairness and maintaining the integrity of the game."

"It reminds me of the script, that I write a script for the entire season... It's a ridiculous theory, for anyone who might take it seriously," Goodell said of the notion that the referees favor one team.

Goodell admitted that there is room for improvement regarding the league's officiating, suggesting that the league will explore ways to review plays like facemask penalties. He was also asked about the possibility of creating a penalty for flopping, and he said he doesn't view that as a major issue but wouldn't be surprised if it was discussed by the competition committee.

"I'm proud of what they do, but that doesn't mean we're not trying to get better," Goodell said.

Green added in his statement that the NFLRA is committed to avoiding mistakes going forward.

"You can rest assured that on every single down, NFL Officials, both on the field and in the replay booth, are doing everything humanly possible to officiate every play correctly," Green said.

Saquon Barkley will be looking to power the Philadelphia Eagles to victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday evening. But before that, Saquon Barky (a Bernese Mountain Dog/Australian Shepherd) will try to lead Team Ruff to a win over Team Fluff in Puppy Bowl XXI.

The Puppy Bowl is back again on Sunday afternoon, when the Lombarky Trophy will be on the line during the Animal Planet-produced event. It's a Super Bowl Sunday tradition that dates back to 2005.

Here's everything you need to know about this year's Puppy Bowl.

Puppy Bowl XXI Information

Start Time: 2 p.m. ET

Live Stream: Discovery Plus, Max

Preview

Team Ruff won last year's Puppy Bowl (a 72-69 victory), ending a two-year reign by Team Fluff. Of course, the real winners are the audience who gets to tune in and watch as puppies run around a football-themed set for three hours.

There will be barking. There will be football toys. There will be plenty of cuteness from the participants.

Saquon Barky won't be the only dog with a name that serves as a fun twist on an NFL player. Among the other puppies will be Dee-Bone Samuel (poodle mix) and Paws Allen (Labrador Retriever mix).

Those two dogs were among the 16 in the Pupularity Playoffs. People can vote daily on Discovery.com to name the "Most Pupular" puppy. The championship matchup features Dee-Bone Samuel and Whoopie (Great Pyrenees mix).

Dee-Bone Samuel, who is representing Team Ruff, is from the Sacramento SPCA in Sacramento, Calif. Whoopie, who will be on Team Fluff, is from Wags & Walks in Nashville, Tenn.

"Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl serves as an annual pop culture programming event that continues to expand in reach, awareness and of course, puppies, every year," said Howard Lee, Chief Creative Officer of U.S. Networks and President of Discovery Networks, in a press release. "Win or lose, Puppy Bowl XXI will have the cutest players in the game."

Dan Schachner is returning to serve as the Puppy Bowl referee this year.

The field will include 11 special needs dogs. That includes Jolene (American Pit bull terrier mix), who will be in a wheelchair, and Sprinkle (Australian shepherd mix), who is blind and hearing-impaired.

For those who want to tune in for more puppy action prior to the event, the Puppy Bowl XXI Kickoff will air at 1 p.m. ET on Animal Planet. The show will feature 10 dogs competing in practice drills during the first Puppy Combine. Puppies will be selected in the Puppy Bowl Draft to join Team Ruff or Team Fluff.

As always, the Puppy Bowl should be an entertaining way to spend the afternoon during the buildup to the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl LIX activities are officially underway as the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles arrived at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Monday night.

With nearly a week until the big game, players and coaches from both teams were available for media questions.

The evening did not disappoint, as plenty of meme-worthy, notable and jaw-dropping moments took place.

Philadelphia kicked off the night with a stage-stealing entrance as they took the field ahead of their second Super Bowl appearance in the past three years.

NFL fans across the nation were thrilled as the Eagles were hit with hilarious interview questions, leaving some blushing and others struggling to keep a straight face. Including some hard-hitting questions by Chad Ochocinco Johnson.

Next, the Chiefs took the stage for their fifth opening day appearance in six years, bringing their signature energy to the festivities.

In addition to the energy they brought to the stadium, the Chiefs endured some boos as the back-to-back Super Bowl champions enter Super Bowl LIX as the fan-rated underdog.

Ochocinco kept the tough questions coming, while Cooper Manning, dressed in a band outfit, took the stage alongside Travis Kelce. The media queries had the Chiefs laughing and pondering things they hadn't before.

A highlight of the night came from Cleveland Browns quarterback Jameis Winston, who hyped up the crowd by throwing some "W" cookies while playing the role of correspondent for the evening.

At one point, Winston put Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith on the spot with some hard-hitting questions. He also asked Saquon Barkley where he should sign in free agency, to which Barkley simply responded, "New York."

Super Bowl LIX will kick off on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. E.T.

NFL Super Bowl 59 Average Ticket Price Revealed Ahead of Chiefs vs. Eagles Rematch

Don't expect this year's Super Bowl to be a bargain despite the fact it's a rematch from a few years ago.

As of Sunday, the cheapest ticket at Vivid Seats for Super Bowl LIX between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles was $3,346. The median ticket price is $6,304.

That's pretty much right on track for how much it cost to attend the Chiefs' 38-35 victory over the Eagles at Super Bowl LVII. Six days out from the game, the average ticket fetched $6,388.

The cost is lower in comparison to some other recent Super Bowls, though.

Super Bowl LV, which saw Kansas City lose 31-9 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is a clear outlier. The average ticket then was $11,681, which reflected the relative scarcity of seats at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The capacity was capped at 25,000 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

But Super Bowls LVI ($7,124) and LVIII ($8,459) both had a higher sticker price for fans than this Sunday's installment.

Maybe there is a slight sense of fatigue with the Chiefs going for a third straight title. Seeing Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl is increasingly becoming the norm. Then there's the fact Kansas City and Philly crossed paths in 2023.

If some fans thought twice about making the trip to New Orleans, the demand across the board doesn't appear to have lessened much.

Super Bowl 59 Prize Money: Bonus Payout Distribution for Chiefs vs. Eagles

Feb 2, 2025

Patrick Mahones and the Kansas City Chiefs will go after their third straight NFL title in Super Bowl 59 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Co. defeated the Eagles two years ago to kick off their latest dominant run.

The Chiefs downed the San Francisco 49ers last year to claim their third title in a five-year span.

Both teams are not strangers to the Big Game. The Chiefs are appearing in their fifth Super Bowl in six years, while the Eagles are back in the Super Bowl for the third time since 2018.

Super Bowl Prize Money

Each member of the winning team will take home $171,000.

Each player on the losing side will be awarded $96,000, per the NFL collective bargaining agreement.

A handful of players likely have Super Bowl bonuses attached to their contracts as well, but those are the numbers given to every player on the roster.

Game Preview

Mahomes and the Chiefs won the last two Super Bowls by tight margins.

The Chiefs beat the Eagles by three points in a high-scoring affair in Super Bowl 57 and then defeated the 49ers in overtime in Super Bowl 58.

Close games have been a recent trend in the NFL's championship tilt. The last three Super Bowls were each decided by three points.

Kansas City's first win in the Mahomes era came by 11 points over the 49ers in Super Bowl 54.

The Chiefs' triumph in Miami was part of a four-year stretch in which the Super Bowl was decided by eight or more points.

The February 9 event will be held in New Orleans. It is a record eighth time hosting for the Superdome.

It's been 12 years since the last Super Bowl in the Big Easy. The Baltimore Ravens won the Harbaugh Bowl against the 49ers in that contest.

Both the Chiefs and Eagles have played one Super Bowl in New Orleans in their franchise histories.

The Eagles lost back in 1981, while the Chiefs won Super Bowl 4 at Tulane Stadium, which hosted two Super Bowls. If you add in those two games, Sunday will be the 10th time New Orleans hosted the Super Bowl as a city.
