Tom Brady Calls Patrick Mahomes 'the Ultimate Competitor' as Chiefs Lose Super Bowl

NFL legend Tom Brady empathized with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the final stages of Kansas City's 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.

As the outcome was clear midway through the fourth quarter, Brady said from the broadcast booth that he lingers over his three Super Bowl defeats "probably more than I think about the seven wins" (via Matt Geagan of WBZ News).

"It hurts to lose this game," the Fox Sports analyst said. "We lost to the Giants in 2007. That was 17 years ago. We were on the precipice of history and we faced a Giants team that played their hearts out that day and beat us. I still haven't really lived it down, because you care so deeply. And I know that this Chiefs team does as well. Patrick is the ultimate competitor. The reality of a loss in this game is you don't ever get over them."

That's exactly what Mahomes conveyed in his postgame press conference. He told reporters that a defeat in the Super Bowl is "the worst feeling in the world."

The frustration for Mahomes is probably magnified because of how poorly he played Sunday night.

Hardly anyone blamed the two-time MVP when Kansas City came up short against Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV. The Chiefs offensive line had no answer for the Bucs' pass rush, so it was a minor miracle Mahomes even managed to throw for 270 yards on that occasion.

While the Eagles applied steady pressure in Super Bowl LIX, that doesn't fully account for Mahomes' performance. He finished 21-of-32 for 257 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions, with two of those TDs and a lot of yards coming in garbage time. He made some questionable decisions and simply didn't look comfortable in the pocket.

It's safe to say Mahomes will be stewing on this game all offseason, and it will probably remain in the back of his mind for a long time to come.

Giants Trolled by NFL Fans as Saquon Barkley Wins Super Bowl with Eagles in 1st Year

New York Giants owner John Mara might be having nightmares right now.

If he can even sleep at all.

Hard Knocks cameras famously captured Mara saying he would have a hard time sleeping if star running back Saquon Barkley ended up with the Philadelphia Eagles when it was clear he wasn't returning to the Giants.

All Barkley did in his first year with New York's NFC East rival was win a Super Bowl.

Naturally, social media didn't waste an opportunity to poke fun at the Giants as the Eagles put the finishing touches on their 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday:

https://twitter.com/MetsRuinedJake/status/1888768393328652726

For as dominant as Barkley was throughout the season, he was relatively quiet in the Super Bowl.

He averaged just 2.3 yards per carry on the way to 57 rushing yards and didn't find the end zone. He was more dangerous as a pass-catcher with six receptions for 40 yards, although it was DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown who caught the two touchdown passes from Jalen Hurts.

Hurts finished a game-high 72 rushing yards and a score on the ground as well and took home Super Bowl MVP honors.

Still, the Eagles likely wouldn't have even been in the Super Bowl without Barkley.

The Penn State product threatened Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record of 2,105 yards on his way to 2,005 rushing yards, 278 receiving yards and 15 total touchdowns. Had he played in the final game of the regular season, he may have set the record.

Barkley also ran for 205 yards and two scores in the NFC Divisional Round win over the Los Angeles Rams before tallying 118 yards and three touchdowns on the ground in the NFC Championship Game win over the Washington Commanders.

It was a dream season for the former face of the franchise for the Giants, which is exactly what Mara feared.

Serena Williams Defends Taylor Swift After NFL Fans Boo Singer During Super Bowl 59

Tennis legend Serena Williams consoled Taylor Swift after the music star received a frosty reception from the crowd at Super Bowl LIX.

In a post on X, Williams advised Swift to tune out the boos she received inside Caesars Superdome:

Swift appeared on the stadium's jumbotron at one point, which elicited loud boos. She appeared to be taken aback by the reaction:

This ultimately may have come down to the fact the 14-time Grammy winner is the most famous Chiefs fan on the planet, and the Superdome seemed to be predominantly Eagles fans.

Compare and contrast how the crowd responded to the pregame intros, which featured actors Bradley Cooper and Jon Hamm. Cooper drew large cheers as he brought the Eagles onto the field, while boos were audible with Hamm announcing the Chiefs' entrance:

Listen, we're talking about a fanbase that once threw snowballs at a man dressed in a Santa Claus costume because they were so disgusted with the state of the Eagles at the time.

It shouldn't be a shock Eagles partisans didn't roll out the red carpet for a celebrity so closely associated with the Chiefs during the biggest game of the season.

Roseman, Eagles Celebrate to 'F--k a Budget' Song in Locker Room After Super Bowl Win

The Philadelphia Eagles seem to keenly understand their fans care about championships, not balance sheets.

Following Philly's 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, The Athletic's Brooks Kubena wrote that Eagles general manager Howie Roseman partook in the team's locker room celebration, during which Future's "Lil Demon" played from the speakers. One line from that song is "Go platinum, f--k a budget."

Kubena laid out how "f--k a budget" has to some extent been Philadelphia's approach to building its roster.

The NFL is a hard-capped league, so it's not as though a team can spend its way to success in the same way you theoretically can in the NBA or MLB. But there is room to be more aggressive than your peers in the short term, and that's exactly what the Eagles have been.

The three-year contract they gave to Saquon Barkley is a prime example. At a time when a lot of teams are shying away from bigger multiyear deals for running backs in free agency, Philly didn't hesitate with Barkley, and he proceeded to perform at an MVP-type level.

Then there are the extensions the Eagles have paid out to players who were already on the roster. Quarterback Jalen Hurts, wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, offensive tackles Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson and offensive guard Landon Dickerson all have average salaries of at least $20 million.

The Chiefs, by comparison, have three players averaging $20 million or more.

Savvy drafting by Roseman and the front office has perfectly complemented the massive spending on proven talent.

Cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean both made immediate impacts as rookies this year, with DeJean getting a pick-six in the Super Bowl.

Defensive tackle Jalen Carter has grown to become a game-wrecker as well. He had two hits on Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl, which doesn't do justice to how much he influenced the contest.

Linebacker Zack Baun wasn't drafted by the Eagles, but his one-year, $3.5 million contract was one of the biggest bargains in the league as he went on to be an All-Pro.

There will come a time when Roseman has to make some difficult decisions with the current roster, choices that are largely fueled by financial concerns. But that day is not today.

For now, Roseman deserves all the credit for being the architect for what's clearly the NFL's strongest squad.

Cooper DeJean: Eagles' DL 'Some Bad Motherf--kers' After Super Bowl 59 Win vs. Chiefs

The blowout was on in Sunday's Super Bowl LIX as soon as the Philadelphia Eagles extended the lead over the Kansas City Chiefs to 17-0 in the second quarter with Cooper DeJean's pick-six, but the cornerback gave credit to his teammates after the win.

"The boys up front are some bad motherf--kers," DeJean said, per Brooks Kubena of The Athletic.

Kansas City scored 16 points in the final three minutes of Philadelphia's 40-22 victory when plenty of Eagles were already celebrating on the sidelines, so the game wasn't even as close as the 18-point deficit indicated.

And that was in large part due to Philadelphia's defense.

In addition to DeJean's pick-six, the NFC representative sacked Patrick Mahomes six times and made life miserable for the star quarterback throughout the contest. Zack Baun's interception deep in Kansas City territory also set up an Eagles touchdown, and the defensive line's ability to create pressure made it all the more difficult for any receivers to get open.

According to Next Gen Stats, the Eagles didn't blitz a single time and still generated a 38.1 percent pressure rate.

Not even an offense with an all-time great at quarterback like Mahomes can do much against a defense that is creating pressure like that without sending any additional blitzers. DeJean and the rest of the secondary didn't have to cover the Chiefs' playmakers for long before Mahomes was scrambling or being taken down.

The cornerback had his starring moment with the pick-six, but he knew where the real credit went after the game.

Eagles Parade 2025: Route, Date, Time, TV Schedule, Live Stream and More

It looks like the Philadelphia Eagles will be taking to the streets Friday to celebrate their 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

While the full details haven't been divulged, the Eagles teased on social media they'll parade the Vince Lombardi Trophy down Broad Street in four days:

Mother Nature might be forcing the team to push the festivities to later in the week. The weather forecasts are calling for between two and five inches of snow on Tuesday, so it could take a few days to clear off major roadways.

The Eagles and the city might be waiting to see the extent of the snowfall before they confirm the full details for the Super Bowl parade.

The event will presumably mirror the lively ceremony from 2018, which came after Philly took down Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.

On that occasion, the parade started at 11 a.m. ET and kicked off at the intersection of Broad Street and Pattison Avenue, in the shadow of Lincoln Financial Field. The procession moved down broad before veering over toward Philadelphia's Art Museum.

Beyond the logistical particulars, one of the bigger questions is whether former Eagles center Jason Kelce makes an appearance.

The six-time All-Pro provided the most iconic image from the team's last championship celebration. He delivered what was effectively a pro wrestling promo while dressed like a Mummer.

Even though he's no longer on the team, Kelce remains a beloved figure within the city, so we can't rule it out.

Jalen Hurts' Message to Haters After Eagles' Super Bowl Win: 'Keep It Coming'

Feb 10, 2025

Jalen Hurts had a strong response for his haters after leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59.

"I can't control what these people think but if it takes all the hating, all the scrutiny, all the different opinions for me to be a world champion, keep it coming," Hurts said after the game.

In addition to Hurts' three total touchdowns and 221 yards on Sunday, he earned Super Bowl MVP honors, further silencing his critics.

Ahead of the Super Bowl, Hurts made it clear that he uses doubt as extra motivation.

"It's no secret," Hurts said to reporters.

Doubt has been a constant for Hurts, who has faced criticism since his rookie season in 2020. Over time, he has mastered turning those doubts into fuel for his performances.

"I don't play the game for stats. I don't play the game for numbers, any statistical approval from anyone else," Hurts said, per ESPN's Tim McManus. "And I understand that everyone has a preconceived notion on how they want it to look, or how they expect it to look. I told you guys that success is defined by that particular individual, and it's all relative to the person. And what I define it as is winning."

Hurts isn't the only one who thrives on being underestimated. His teammates know that's exactly what fuels him, and they've embraced that mentality to help push him even further.

"How about QB1, man? I love when people doubt him," left tackle Jordan Malta said, per McManus. "We always talk about limiting the outside noise or the white noise, whatever you want to call it. But I know he hears that and I think he plays his best when he feels like people doubt him."

The doubt clearly worked, for the Super Bowl MVP.

Patrick Mahomes Talks Travis Kelce Retirement Rumors: TE 'Has a Lot of Football Left'

Travis Kelce's future in the NFL is uncertain heading into the offseason, but his quarterback believes he still has what it takes to play at a high level.

After the Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, Patrick Mahomes said that while the decision to retire is ultimately Kelce's to make, he believes the tight end "still has a lot of football left in him."

I'll let Travis make that decision on his own, man," Mahomes told reporters. "He's given so much to this team and to the NFL and been such a joy, not only for me to work with but for people to watch. He knows he still has a lot of football left in him. You can see it. He always makes plays in the biggest moments. But it's if he wants to put in that grind, to go out there and play 20 games to get to the Super Bowl. He's done enough to be a gold jacket guy and a first-ballot Hall of Famer. I know he still has a love for the game. He'll get to spend some time with his family and make that decision on his own.

Kelce, an 11-year veteran, will be 36 shortly into the 2025 season. His best years are likely behind him, but he's still contributing plenty to the Chiefs offense. While his run of seven consecutive seasons with 1,000 or more receiving yards came to an end last year, Kelce still had 97 receptions for 823 yards and three touchdowns in 2024.

He had a vintage performance in the Chiefs' divisional-round win over the Houston Texans, racking up 117 yards and a touchdown on seven receptions.

When asked where he sees himself in three years earlier this week, Kelce answered, "hopefully still playing football," while specifically mentioning that he'd like to still be with the Chiefs.

While Kelce was optimistic about playing three years from now, that decision isn't cut and dry just yet. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on SportsCenter on Sunday that Kelce "hasn't made a decision about whether he will play, and he will not make a decision about whether he'll play until he figures out exactly what's in front of him, both on and off the football field."

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport also reported Sunday that Kelce is "undecided" about his future and will take time this offseason to evaluate things. Rapoport added that Kelce is "set to make a decision soon."

As Mahomes mentioned, Kelce could retire this offseason and likely earn a first-ballot trip to the Hall of Fame, but whether he decides to call it quits or run it back remains to be seen.

Eagles' Saquon Barkley on Winning Super Bowl Title: It's Better in Person Than Madden

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley says winning Super Bowl LIX on his 28th birthday lived up to his childhood dreams.

"It's better in person than in Madden, I'll tell you that, playing as a kid," Barkley said about lifting the Lombardi Trophy. "It's something that you dream of.

"I'm just happy to be able to hold it, give it a kiss, and be world champions."

Barkley lifted his first career Lombardi Trophy in New Orleans after leading the Eagles' offense in both carries (25) and receptions (six) for 97 total yards of offense on Sunday night.

His efforts helped the Eagles claim a 40-22 win over the two-time defending champions.

Barkley recorded the best season of his career as part of Kellen Moore's offense. He is now the first player in NFL history to record more than 2,500 yards in a single season, including playoffs.

The star running back said that record "wouldn't mean anything" to him if it hadn't come alongside a championship."

"All of the numbers and stats are cool, but the best thing is being able to hold that Lombardi Trophy," Barkley said, per NFL.com's Grant Gordon.

Barkley continued, per Grant: "To be honest, the most important thing was winning the Super Bowl. Because if we didn't win today, all those accolades and all those yards wouldn't mean anything. So, it's cool.

"I don't want to downplay it because I couldn't do it without the boys up front, and I know how much that means to them. For me, thankful, couldn't do it without God, but I like that Lombardi Trophy a little bit more."

The New York Giants chose not to use a $12.1 million franchise tag to keep Barkley last offseason.

Barkley ended up making more than $4.6 million over that amount with the incentives built into his Eagles contract. That price that has been more than worth it for Philadelphia to acquire the driving force of their Super Bowl-winning offense.

Nick Foles Trolls Tom Brady After Eagles' Super Bowl 59 Win vs. Chiefs

Former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles had the ultimate trolling words for Tom Brady following the Eagles' 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

After leading the Eagles to their first franchise Super Bowl victory in 2018 over Brady and the New England Patriots with a 41-33 win, Foles took the opportunity to poke fun at his luck in being a part of Eagles history.

Brady, broadcasting alongside Kevin Burkhardt for Fox on Sunday, returned to the Super Bowl to witness an Eagles victory, but this time from the booth instead of on the field.

In the Eagles Super Bowl 52 victory over Brady, Foles finished with 373 yards and three touchdowns to lift the Eagles to its win.

Despite the shade, Brady has made 10 Super Bowl appearances, winning a monumental seven, including one 24-21 victory over the Eagles in 2005.

With Foles in the building to witness the Eagles' second Super Bowl win, Burkhardt seized the moment to poke fun at Brady.

"Nick Foles in the building," Burkhardt said on the broadcast. "Super Bowl MVP who led the Eagles to that win. Who did he play in that game? Do you know who he played?"

Brady responded with good humor, while also pointing out the difference in their trick play catches. "Nick, I don't hate you. I'm just jealous of you. You caught it, I didn't."

The playful jabs continued throughout the night, with both stars appearing in a Super Bowl commercial together this year.

The advertisement was for a Boston-based sportswear company called Nobull, featuring Brady on a video call with Foles' nephew. The boy mentions how his "uncle gave them a special play in the fourth quarter" to win the title game, before the camera panned to Foles.

By the end of the night, the Foles and Brady banter had certainly become one of the more memorable moments of Super Bowl week.
