Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins had some grievances to air following his team's loss in Super Bowl LIX.
The Chiefs fell 40-22 to the Philadelphia Eagles, ending the team's hopes for a third consecutive Super Bowl title. Following the game, Hopkins pushed back on the narrative from the season that the Chiefs benefited from referee calls, noting that their were "touchy calls" and asked if reporters would "report that."
"I saw a lot of things in the media about the refs, but obviously sh**, what y'all gonna say now about the refs? There was a lot of touchy calls. Are y'all gonna report that? Are y'all gonna talk about the refs now?" - DeAndre Hopkins pic.twitter.com/uUWqoHsrVr

Patrick Mahomes Takes Blame for Chiefs' Loss: 'I Just Didn't Play to My Standard'

Patrick Mahomes is taking full responsibility for the flat performance from the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.
The Chiefs lost 40-22 to the Philadelphia Eagles in the game, falling short in their quest for a third consecutive title. Following the game, Mahomes said that he takes the blame for his role in three turnovers and that he needs to perform at a higher level.

Mahomes went 21-of-32 for 257 yards with three touchdowns, two interceptions and a lost fumble. He was sacked six times for a total of 31 yards and the offense was only able to muster a total of 275 yards.
This was Mahomes' fifth Super Bowl in his seventh season and he and the Chiefs were aiming for a third-consecutive Super Bowl title. He now has a 3-2 overall record in the Super Bowl.
While it can be a setback, the 29-year-old has still made the Conference Championship in each season as a starter of his professional career and will remain a major contender in the AFC.
Andy Reid: I 'Didn't Coach Good Enough' in Chiefs' Super Bowl Blowout Loss to Eagles
Feb 9, 2025

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid took responsibility for his team's 40-22 blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles during Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.
"Today was a rough day," Reid said Sunday night. "We didn't really play well in any of the phases. I didn't coach good enough. They did a nice job.
"I'm proud of our guys, though, for the battle, the fight that they put in throughout the year, and all the games that they played here over the last few years."

Reid continued: "We'll learn from this. Like most games here, when you don't do very well, you learn from it as a coach, you learn from it as a player, and you move on."
The Chiefs fell short of becoming the first team to win three straight Super Bowls, but Reid said the blowout would have stung whether or not that record was on the line.
"You get this far, you've battled your tail off to get this far, very, very hard to do," Reid said. "We spend a lot of time doing this. It's not a hobby. We're in it the whole way. Spent a lot of hours doing it, as players, as coaches.
"So it's gonna hurt. They all hurt, when you get to this level, and these things happen, three-peat aside or any of that stuff. You get this far, and you don't play as well as you want to, that hurts."
The Chiefs struggled to overcome the Eagles' defense from their first four-play possession.
Patrick Mahomes then threw his first playoff pick-six when he was picked off by Cooper DeJean in the second quarter.
The reigning Super Bowl champions were already facing a 34-point deficit by the time Xavier Worthy caught the team's first score of the game on a 24-yard touchdown pass from Mahomes.
The Chiefs scored 16 points in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late for the defending Super Bowl champions as they were unable to overcome the deficit.
Reid won't become the first coach to lead his team to three straight Super Bowls, but Sunday night will still put his name in the NFL's record books. Super Bowl LIX marked the 45th playoff game Reid has worked in his 26-season NFL coaching career, moving him past former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick for the most of all time.
Nick Sirianni Says 'I'm Grateful for the Adversity' After Eagles' Super Bowl Win

In his fourth season as a head coach, Nick Sirianni is a Super Bowl champion.
It took losing in the Super Bowl two years ago and facing an early exit in last year's postseason to get there, but the Philadelphia Eagles head coach is "grateful" for everything that led to his team ending the season with a win.
"The daily grind, all the hard work—that's what you remember," Sirianni said. "We'll remember this, but it was the ups and downs, embracing the adversity and getting better from the adversity.
"I think one thing is, when you go through adversity, when you go through criticism, cause you have to hear it sometimes, you have to hear the media, that's something that I can only reach my kids when they through adversity for the rest of their lives. I'm grateful for the adversity, this team's grateful for the adversity."

Sirianni's Eagles were dominant all night on Sunday. They jumped out to a 24-0 lead at halftime and never looked back, trouncing the Chiefs 40-22.
Philadelphia's had its way with Kansas City's offensive line, sacking Patrick Mahomes six times—the most ever for him in a single game. The Eagles also intercepted Mahomes twice—one being a pick-six and the other resulting in a touchdown a few plays later. They forced another turnover in the fourth quarter on a strip sack on Mahomes.
On offense, quarterback Jalen Hurts shook off an early interception to finish with 221 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns through the air on 17-of-22 passing. He added 72 rushing yards and a score on the ground, earning Super Bowl MVP for his effort.
Star receiver DeVonta Smith had four receptions for 69 yards and a touchdown while his co-star A.J. Brown added 43 yards and a touchdown on four receptions.
As Sirrianni said, the Eagles' path to the Super Bowl wasn't perfect. They started the year 2-2 with losses to the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers and appeared on their way to an underwhelming year. Philadelphia proceeded to win 10 straight and finished the year winning 12 of its last 13 games.
In the postseason, the Eagles took down the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round before grinding out a tight win over the Los Angeles Rams. A dominant 55-22 win over the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship set up another convincing win over Kansas City on Sunday.
Now Sirianni, who has faced plenty of criticism during his tenure in Philadelphia, is a champion and will head into the offseason to begin scheming how the Eagles can defend their Super Bowl victory.
Eagles' Nick Sirianni: Kellen Moore 'Let's Run This S--t Back' amid Saints HC Rumors

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni had some choice words for offensive coordinator Kellen Moore following their Super Bowl LIX win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night in New Orleans.
"Let's run this s--t back, Kellen," Sirianni said postgame.
Moore is rumored to be accepting the open New Orleans Saints head coaching position following the Super Bowl, per Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz, prompting Sirianni to seemingly plead for him to stay and instead run it back for another Super Bowl next season.
After traveling to New Orleans for the Super Bowl, it's likely Moore will remain there to accept the Saints' head coaching position, unless the Super Bowl win changes his mind.
Moore, who completed two interviews with New Orleans last month, has been the team's top candidate for the role. The Saints have been careful to avoid breaking any rules, as the Eagles' season extended all the way to the final game.
Once Moore's confirmation is official, it will mark the culmination of his seven-year rise to the top. He began as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator in Dallas, followed by an offensive coordinator role with the Los Angeles Chargers, and, of course, his current position with Philadelphia.
The Eagles ranked eighth in the league in total offensive yards and seventh in points per game, thanks in large part to Moore's efforts. As Sirianni looks to lead the Eagles back to the Super Bowl next season, he made it clear that he wants to do so alongside Moore.
However, it appears the Eagles may have to do it without him, as Moore is expected to earn more than double his current salary, with the possibility of it being tripled if he takes the Saints' head coaching job, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
After a tumultuous season for head coaches, with several being fired from their organizations, the New Orleans vacancy remains the last open position in the NFL following the mid-season dismissal of Dennis Allen.

Jalen Hurts has officially etched his name in Super Bowl history.
The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback earned the Super Bowl MVP honors for his electric performance in the Eagles 40-14 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.
Jalen Hurts getting benched in college football’s title game before going on to win a Super Bowl as a starting quarterback is going to be a great replacement for the “Michael Jordan got cut in high school” story we tell our children when things don’t go so well in sports.
Ladies and gentlemen! We now have another QB sharing some of the most rarified air in the history of football.
Jalen Hurts joins Joe Namath and Joe Montana as the third member of the College National Championship and Super Bowl winner. I hope the 3 of them share a group photo…
Congratulations @Eagles! Superbowl champions once again. Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, Nick Sirianni, rest of the offense and incredible defense deserved it.
Hurts becomes the third consecutive quarterback to win the MVP award and it was the 33rd time a quarterback has won the award. He also set the Super Bowl record for most rushing yards by a quarterback.
The Eagles won their second Super Bowl in franchise history and their first since 2017. Philadelphia avenged a Super Bowl LVII loss to the Chiefs with the victory and finished the season with an overall record of 18-3.

While the Kansas City Chiefs couldn't win a third consecutive Lombardi Trophy on Sunday, Travis Kelce still made history.
With his third reception during the Chiefs' 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, Kelce surpassed Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice for the most catches in Super Bowl history (h/t NFL.com's Grant Gordon).
The 10-time Pro Bowl tight end now owns the new record with 35 total receptions in the title game.
Kelce finished with four catches for 39 yards against Philadelphia.
Sunday's matchup marked the 35-year-old's fifth Super Bowl appearance of his career, emerging victorious in three of them.
Kelce was a key part of the Chiefs' prior championship-winning seasons, hauling in 31 receptions for 350 yards and two touchdowns in four Super Bowl starts prior to the defeat at the hands of the Eagles.
He's repeatedly elevated his game in the playoffs, recording 85 receiving yards per game throughout his postseason career entering Sunday's matchup compared to his regular-season career average of 69.4 yards per game.
Kelce's 2024 production fell below his high standards, but he still remained a consistent option for Patrick Mahomes across the middle of the field. He racked up 823 yards, the fifth-most among all tight ends, and found the end zone three times in 16 starts.
Travis Kelce hauls in his 76th career receiving TD!
Breaking a record held by one of the NFL's greatest players such as Rice is an impressive accomplishment, although it may be a bittersweet honor for Kelce following Kansas City's blowout loss in the Super Bowl.
