Brandon Marshall: Garrett Wilson's Viral 1-Handed Highlight TD 'Saved a Lot of Jobs'

Things looked quite dire for the New York Jets on Thursday.

And then Garrett Wilson put the team on his back and may have saved the season and, in the eyes of one of the team's former wide receivers, some jobs in the process.

New York trailed the Houston Texans 10-7 in the fourth quarter of Thursday's contest and were on the verge of falling to 2-7 with little hope of a turnaround. But everything changed when Aaron Rodgers threw up a deep ball in the back of the end zone and Wilson soared into the air before coming down with a one-handed catch.

He looked like the Jumpman logo when he made the one-handed catch, which ended up propelling the Jets to a 21-13 victory.

"He should put that on a T-shirt and sell it right away," former Jets receiver Brandon Marshall said in a Sunday story by ESPN's Rich Cimini. "[It's] the catch that turned the Jets' season around and saved a lot of jobs."

This is a win-now season for New York with 40-year-old Rodgers under center. The team already traded for Davante Adams and fired head coach Robert Saleh, underscoring the sense of urgency running through the franchise.

Had the Jets fallen to 2-7 with that as the backdrop, even the most optimistic fans likely would have given up on the rest of the campaign. Perhaps that would have resulted in even more firings and a complete revamp within the organization.

Instead, the team is riding some momentum after a dramatic comeback win.

It should be noted there is still plenty of work left to do for the Jets to achieve any of their goals. They are still just 3-6 and may need to finish at least 6-2 to realistically have a chance at the playoffs.

But an offense with Rodgers, Adams, Wilson and Breece Hall has the talent to do just that, which, as Marshall said, would certainly save some jobs within the organization.

NFL Rumors: Garrett Wilson, D.J. Reed Not Expected to Be Traded by Jets at Deadline

After giving themselves some hope of salvaging this season with a 21-13 win over the Houston Texans on Thursday night, the New York Jets don't seem inclined to make any drastic moves that would take talent off their roster before the trade deadline.

Per The Athletic's Dianna Russini, the Jets aren't expected to move Garrett Wilson or D.J. Reed even though teams have called about the availability of both players.

Any talk of Wilson getting traded never made sense given his age and high level of performance, despite having mediocre quarterback talent around him before Aaron Rodgers took over.

That didn't stop teams from calling the Jets to inquire about Wilson's availability after New York acquired Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders.

If there was any chance of Wilson getting traded before, it probably ended when he made arguably the best touchdown catch of the season against the Texans to remind everyone he's a special talent who is only 24 years old.

Trading Reed would be much easier to explain because he is in the final season of his contract. It seems unlikely he will be back next season with Sauce Gardner making it clear he's looking to set a new standard for cornerback contracts when he becomes eligible for an extension in the offseason.

Entering Week 9, Reed was Pro Football Focus' top-ranked cornerback this season. He did struggle in the previous two games before Thursday night, allowing eight receptions for 93 yards and five first downs.

The Jets could potentially get a solid return for Reed, but they can't justify selling with the roster they have constructed. They already acquired Adams and made a change at head coach because of their desperation to salvage this season.

Even though the Jets are only 3-6 after beating the Texans, they could end the weekend just two games out of a wild card spot in the AFC depending on how things play out. They have winnable games against the Arizona Cardinals and Indianapolis Colts in the next two weeks before their bye in Week 12.

Jets' Davante Adams Jokes Garrett Wilson Should Join Jordan Brand After 'Jumpman' TD

New York Jets wide receiver Davante Adams saw a branding opportunity for Garrett Wilson after the 24-year-old's one-handed touchdown catch on Thursday.

Wilson's sensational grab helped the Jets earn a 21-13 victory over the Houston Texans. Following the game, Adams referenced the catch's similarity to the Jordan brand logo and jokingly suggested that Wilson could catch some heat from his current sponsor, Adidas.

"I told him he might get kicked from Adidas after that one," Adams said. "That one looked like he headed over to Jumpman with me. I'm gonna talk to some people."

Adidas later joking issued a statement about Wilson's catch, nothing the star receiver wasn't "going anywhere."

Adams is currently sponsored by the Jordan brand, which is made by Nike. He signed that deal back in 2020. Wilson signed his deal with Adidas in 2022, prior to that year's Draft.

Wilson finished the game with nine catches for 90 yards and two touchdowns. Adams had seven catches for 91 yards and a touchdown, so the duo proved to be a lot to deal with for the Texans secondary.

New York improved to 3-6 with the win and it was the first victory the team has claimed since dealing for Adams.

As the Jets look to turn their season around, Adams and Wilson will look to find even more success and build on last night's victory.

Jets' Garrett Wilson: 'Blessed' to Have My 1-Handed TD in Odell Beckham Jr. Convo

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson commented Thursday on his phenomenal, one-handed touchdown catch during Thursday night's win over the Houston Texans being compared to Odell Beckham Jr.'s iconic 2014 catch.

Speaking to reporters after the Jets' 21-13 win, Wilson said the following when asked to compare his catch to OBJ's:

"For it to even come up in that convo, I'm blessed, I'm honored," Wilson said. "But, yeah man, Odell, that's that boy."

Wilson's catch could prove to be a season-saving play for the Jets since he made the one-handed catch in the end zone on a third-and-19 play with New York trailing 10-7 in the fourth quarter.

Wilson was initially ruled out of bounds, but upon further review, it was determined that his shin hit down in bounds before his knee hit out of bounds, making it a catch and a touchdown.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers went on to add another touchdown pass to Davante Adams, and the Texans were unable to answer with a touchdown of their own, leading to an eight-point loss.

Beckham made his catch as a member of the New York Giants against the Dallas Cowboys in 2014, and it has been the stuff of legend for the past decade.

OBJ famously reached behind his head with one hand, fought through a defensive pass interference call, caught the ball and fell into the end zone for a touchdown.

While it is fair to debate which catch was better between Beckham and Wilson, reporters brought up a good point to Wilson, telling him that his catch occurred in a win, while the Giants lost 31-28 to Dallas on the night OBJ made his catch.

Regardless of which was better, both the Wilson and Beckham catches will be replayed for many years to come, and rightfully so.

Wilson's catch could become even more legendary over time if the Jets can fully turn their season around.

They entered Thursday's game with a 2-6 record, having lost five games in a row, and they had to go up against a Texans team that was 6-2 and considered a top contender in the AFC.

With their backs against the wall, knowing they could only afford one or possibly two more losses for the rest of the season in order to make the playoffs, the Jets delivered with their best performance of the season.

Wilson was paramount to New York's success on Thursday, finishing with nine receptions for 90 yards and two touchdowns.

Even with Adams arriving in New York following a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, Wilson has remained the Jets' most productive receiver, and he is on pace for a career year, having registered 60 receptions for 663 yards and five touchdowns through nine games.

The Jets haven't reached the playoffs since 2010, but Wilson's catch helped ensure that their dreams of ending the drought stayed alive, and it could potentially give them the momentum they sorely needed moving forward.

Aaron Rodgers: Garrett Wilson Made 'Game-Changing Play' on 1-Handed TD in Jets' Win

The New York Jets seemed to be on their way to yet another loss after a sluggish first half saw them trailing the Houston Texans heading into the fourth quarter on Thursday.

In desperate need of a touchdown on third-and-long, Aaron Rodgers threw a ball toward Garrett Wilson in the endzone that seemed uncatchable, even for a player of Wilson's caliber. Somehow, the receiver came down with the ball with a spectacular one-handed grab that gave New York a 14-10 lead.

It was more than just another highlight for Wilson. It was a game-changing—perhaps even season-changing—play for the Jets, according to Rodgers.

"I didn't do a whole lot when it comes down to it," Rodgers said. "I just kind of lobbed one up there and he made an unbelievable catch... That was a huge play. The first one was a huge play as well... But that was a game-changing play."

Wilson accounted for the Jets' first two touchdowns of the game. His first came in the third quarter when he hauled in a 21-yard touchdown pass, which was also a one-handed grab.

Wilson finished with nine receptions for 90 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His new teammate Davante Adams sealed the game with a touchdown late in the fourth and finished with seven receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown.

The Jets came into Thursday's matchup having lost five straight, their playoff hopes dwindling with each loss. They still have a mountain to climb to get back into the playoff picture, but momentum is on their side now, thanks in large part to Wilson's unbelievable catch.

Davante Adams: Garrett Wilson 'Looked Like He Headed Over to Jumpman' on 1-Handed TD

Garrett Wilson made one of the most spectacular catches in recent memory to help the New York Jets beat the Houston Texans on Thursday.

After the outstanding catch, Davante Adams joked that Wilson could get dropped from his Adidas sponsorship due to his resemblance to the Jordan logo.

"I told him he might get kicked from Adidas after that one," Adams said. "That one looked like he headed over to Jumpman with me. We're gonna see, I'm gonna talk to some people about that one. I ain't gonna say they gonna replace the logo, I know (Michael Jordan) might not like me saying that. But that was a hard catch."

As Adams alluded to, Wilson looked just like the iconic silhouette of Michael Jordan as he brought in the absurd touchdown catch.

Wilson likely won't part ways with Adidas anytime soon as he inked a multi-year deal with the shoe company before he was drafted in 2022, but he could get some calls from Jordan when it's time to sign a new contract.

Wilson's unbelievable one-handed touchdown grab came in the fourth quarter of Thursday night's matchup and gave the Jets a 14-10 lead.

What's even more absurd about the highlight is that it wasn't even his first one-handed touchdown catch of the game. In the third quarter, he hauled in a pass from Aaron Rodgers with one hand before trotting into the endzone to give New York its first score of the game.

Wilson finished the game with nine receptions for 90 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The third-year receiver is up to 663 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 60 receptions so far this season.

His new teammate Adams had his best game in a Jets uniform, bringing in seven receptions for 91 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown that helped seal the game.

The win snapped a five-game losing streak for New York and its now looking to build off of the momentum and continue fighting for a playoff berth.

The New York Jets are finally back in the win column.

After losing five consecutive games, the Jets beat the Houston Texans 21-13 on Thursday as New York overcame a slow start and scored all of its points in the second half.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers had one of the worst starts of the season, completing seven of his 14 passes for just 14 yards heading into halftime. He finally got things going in the second half, and his favorite target was Garrett Wilson.

Wilson had nine receptions for 90 yards and a pair of touchdowns, including one of the best catches you'll see this season:

Rodgers also found a connection with Davante Adams after a bit of a slow start to his time as a Jet. Adams had seven receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown, sealing the game with a late score in the fourth quarter.

Rodgers finished with 211 passing yards and a season-high three touchdowns, shaking off the slow start to help New York snap a losing streak that was starting to get ugly.

After the win, fans praised Wilson, Rodgers and the Jets for picking up a win against one of the top teams in the AFC.

The Jets still have a long way to go before they're considered to be playoff contenders, but a win on Thursday is a step in the right direction. Rodgers was finally clicking with his receivers and the defense came up big against CJ Stroud and the Texans.

The question now is whether New York can continue building off the win.

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson made an incredible one-handed catch in the fourth quarter of the team's clash with the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football.

On third down with 19 yards to gain at Houston's 26-yard line, Aaron Rodgers tossed a pass into the end zone for Wilson before the 24-year-old reached up and hauled in the ball with one hand.

It was initially ruled an incomplete pass, but the call was later reversed after Wilson's shin came down inside the end zone before falling out of bounds.

Fans were amazed by the play.

With the catch, the Jets were able to take a four-point lead instead of settling for a potential game-tying field goal. New York entered the contest looking to end a five-game losing streak.

Despite the team's struggles as of late, Wilson has continued to improve following a slow start to the season.

The former Offensive Rookie of the Year recorded just 20 catches for 191 yards and a touchdown through his first four games. In his next four appearances, Wilson racked up 31 receptions for 382 yards and two scores.

He remained effective against a Texans secondary that owned the NFL's third-best pass defense entering Thursday's action. With two touchdown grabs, Wilson amassed seven catches for 76 yards.

His one-handed score was also crucial for a Jets offense that was briefly missing Davante Adams, as the star receiver left the game in the second half and wasn't on the field during the improbable play. He was able to clear concussion protocol and catch a 37-yard touchdown before the contest ended, though.

While several members of the Jets have fallen short of expectations during their 2-6 start to the season, Wilson showed why he's one of the bright spots in the organization on Thursday night.
