Garrett Wilson Says 'I'm Playing Like S--t'; Rodgers Defends WR amid NFL Trade Rumors

Garrett Wilson was hard on himself after his dropped pass led to an interception during the New York Jets' 37-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football.
"I got to catch the damn ball," Wilson said after the game, per ESPN's Rich Cimini. "I'm playing like s--t right now. Got to fix it. I don't take that lightly. That was the reason we lost the game at the end of the day. [That] s--t can't happen. Can't happen. It's a terrible play."
"I don't take it light after that, I was the reason that we lost the game. S--t can't happen. It's a terrible play."

With the Jets trailing by one point in the third quarter, Aaron Rodgers threw a pass to an open Wilson. The ball bounced off the receiver's chest and was intercepted by Steelers cornerback Beanie Bishop Jr., who returned it to New York's one-yard line and set up a touchdown for Pittsburgh.
Rodgers told Wilson that he would continue to target him moving forward while taking accountability for his own struggles, as he was picked off twice in the game.
"I said I'm going to come back to you," Rodgers explained to reporters. "He's a dynamic player. We need to target him. Obviously, nobody feels sicker than him about that play, but he's a dynamic player."
Aaron Rodgers on what he said to Garrett Wilson after his dropped pass that led to an interception:
"I have to play better," said Rodgers, per Cimini. "That's the key, I have to play better."
Wilson's name has surfaced in trade rumors, as ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Saturday that multiple teams have looked into a deal involving him. The Jets "are not planning" to move the former Offensive Rookie of the Year, though.
The 24-year-old caught five of his nine targets for 61 yards against Pittsburgh. Wilson has recorded 46 receptions for 460 yards and three touchdowns in seven appearances this season.
His role in the offense may be altered by New York's recent trade for Davante Adams, although Rodgers confirmed that he'll still target Wilson.
The Jets lost their fourth straight game on Sunday, falling to 2-5 on the season as a whole.
NFL Rumors: Garrett Wilson Drawing Trade Interest; Jets Have No Plans to Move WR

Multiple NFL teams have looked into a potential trade for New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The Jets have heard from some of these teams but "are not planning to trade Wilson," sources told Schefter.
New York acquired Davante Adams in a Tuesday trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, adding the six-time Pro Bowler to a crowded wide receiver room already staffed by Wilson, Allen Lazard and Mike Williams.
Wilson has made 41 catches for 399 yards and three touchdowns in six games this season.
The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported on Thursday that the Jets have received interest in Williams from "a number of teams" ahead of Adams' New York debut on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Steelers, Los Angeles Chargers and New Orleans Saints are among the teams that have inquired after Williams, per Russini.
NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported the same day that the Jets are "trying to find a suitor" for Williams, who was serving as the team's WR3 prior to the Adams trade.
Williams has 10 catches for 145 yards through six games in that capacity. He has taken 205 snaps, with Wilson (369 snaps) and Lazard (355 snaps) shouldering most of the workload.
His usage seemed almost guaranteed to decrease further in Week 7 after veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers publicly criticized his route running following Monday's loss to the Buffalo Bills, making him an obvious choice for a trade.
Wilson is meanwhile trending in the opposite direction after receiving a season-high 23 targets in a Week 5 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
Last year Wilson became the first Jets receiver to tally consecutive 1,000 receiving-yard seasons since Keyshawn Johnson in 1999. Given that Wilson has one year remaining on his rookie contract before a fifth-year club option in 2026, Williams will remain the Jets' most probable receiver trade option heading into Week 7.

The Aftermath of the Davante Adams and Amari Cooper Trades
The most obvious winner here from a trade value perspective is Brock Bowers, who will be the main man in the Las Vegas passing game going forward. Chances are if you have Bowers you nabbed him in the later rounds, meaning you probably have another tight end you could trade.
Bowers makes a strong case, given his fantastic start and relative lack of competition for targets outside of Jakobi Meyers, to be the TE1 the rest of the way (though George Kittle is certainly having himself a year). If you have Bowers, don't trade him barring a mega offer. If you are trying to land Bowers, expect to pay huge prices.
Meyers would be a solid buy-low option, but savvy fantasy players are going to expect a bump in production. Plus, the shaky quarterback situation in Vegas makes him a flex option at best. Don't overpay to land him.
Adams gets an obvious boost to his trade value after being reunited with Aaron Rodgers, and at this point you aren't getting him for a bargain if you target him. Garrett Wilson shouldn't suffer either—he and Rodgers have found a better rhythm in the past two weeks—but there could be some fears that Adams' addition knocks Wilson down the pecking order. You could fish for buy-low trades there, though savvy fantasy players probably will wait to see how the target share shakes out.
Allen Lazard, on the other hand, might be a player worth selling high on. He has a fantastic rapport with Rodgers, yes, but Adams and Wilson are vastly superior talents. Somebody's fantasy impact is going to suffer after this trade, and Lazard should be the one losing targets.
In Buffalo, Amari Cooper gets an obvious bump in trade value going from the hapless Deshaun Watson to a superstar in Josh Allen, but every fantasy player around is going to expect that increase in production.
Amari Cooper has the 5th lowest catchable target rate (62.3%) among WRs
Josh Allen's 59% highly accurate throw rate on throws beyond the line of scrimmage is second-best. Deshaun Watson (44%) is 26th-of-31 QB pic.twitter.com/UaCwPdX0vE
Immediate upgrade to WR2 status for Cooper & slight downgrade for all BUF WR (none were really startable in normal sized lgs to begin with). As for CLE-even more of a mess offensively. Njoku is only guy I'd trust tho I like Tillman long term https://t.co/cXmR0n8KoN
Amari Cooper should be able to shine with the Bills. Might ease him in a few weeks to learn the offense and gain some chemistry, but long term should be great.
Think this only really hurts the fantasy value of Keon Coleman, who was only averaging 2 receptions per game anyway.
If anything, you might be able to sell a bit high on him—even in his best years, Cooper generally settles into the WR2 range. If you can get a fantasy player overreacting to his change in scenery and willing to pay WR1 prices, pounce on that deal.
The biggest beneficiary in Cleveland after Cooper's departure is probably tight end David Njoku, who likely will settle into the role of Watson's top option in the passing game. The volatility of Watson, however, still makes Njoku a tough player to trust.
Ditto for Jerry Jeudy, who is the de facto WR1 in Cleveland now. Don't get too excited about that fact. Cooper is a better player than Jeudy and was averaging just 10.2 fantasy points per week in PPR formats, ranking 36th at the position. Watson is the tide that sinks all ships.
Jets HC Compares Davante Adams-Garrett Wilson Duo to 49ers' Jerry Rice-Terrell Owens

New York Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich has high expectations for his new wide receiver duo.
The Jets landed Davante Adams in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, teaming him up with star receiver Garrett Wilson. Ulbrich compared the two to Hall of Famers Terrell Owens and Jerry Rice, who Ulbrich played with when he was with the San Francisco 49ers.
"I think the best thing, I was fortunate enough in San Francisco to be around Terrell Owens and Jerry Rice and to see firsthand all that Jerry taught T.O.," Ulbrich said Tuesday, via NFL.com's Kevin Patra. "Jerry, at the time, was in his 18th year, whatever it was, but so established and understood the game at the highest level. I think Davante's going to provide that same thing for Garrett and for all of our receivers. He's done this at an elite level for a long time, and on top of all of it, you're going to see exactly the reflection of a relationship with Aaron (Rodgers), the synergy that they've had for so long. So, it's an exciting time to be a Jet in that way."
Rice played with Owens for four seasons when he was an established veteran and Owens was looking to make a name for himself. Their situation mirrors that of Adams, who is in his 11th season, and Wilson, who is in his third.
Wilson has had a tremendous start to his career, recording 1,000 or more receiving yards in his first two seasons and on pace to do it again this year. While Adams will likely replace him as the Jets' WR1, having a 10,000-yard career receiver could do wonders for Wilson as he continues to develop.
Beyond Adams acting as a mentor for Wilson, the Jets are also hoping his addition can help them snap an ugly 13-year playoff drought. New York is 2-4 so far this season, but could be due for better days with Adams on the roster.

Garrett Wilson Says Jets Need Urgency After Davante Adams Trade: 'Gotta Do it NOW!'

After the New York Jets added one of the top receivers in the NFL by acquiring Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders, fellow wideout Garrett Wilson believes it's time for the team to turn the corner.
Wilson took to social media to post a short but urgent message, making it clear that the Jets need to bounce back from their current three-game losing streak:
The Jets fell to 2-4 with a 23-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football. A win would've given them a share of first place in the AFC East. The team's three losses during this skid have come by a combined 10 points.
Adams' arrival in New York comes after Wilson finally found his groove following his slow start to the season. He posted eight catches for 107 yards and a touchdown against Buffalo, his second straight 100-yard game and third time reaching the end zone this year.
Still, the Jets have been mired by miscues by their receivers not named Wilson. Veteran wideout Allen Lazard is among the league leaders in dropped passes. Mike Williams, who is in his first year in New York, has struggled to get on the same page as veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Each of the team's last two losses against the Minnesota Vikings and the Bills ended with interceptions thrown by Rodgers on passes intended for Williams.
Adding Adams gives Rodgers his favorite receiver of all time, as the two of them starred together with the Green Bay Packers and set multiple franchise records. While they haven't played together since 2021, their connection should still be intact.
If Adams is able to make the impact expected of him, Wilson and the rest of the receivers will benefit from his presence and the Jets will have a strong chance to end their 13-year playoff drought.

After weeks of rumors and speculation, superstar wide receiver Davante Adams is reportedly on the move as the centerpiece of a blockbuster trade.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Las Vegas Raiders agreed Tuesday to send Adams to the New York Jets in exchange for a conditional third-round pick that can become a second-rounder based on Adams' performance.
The trade was reportedly consummated just hours after the Jets dropped a crucial AFC East game to the Buffalo Bills on Monday night, falling 23-20 at home.
Acquiring Adams means quarterback Aaron Rodgers now has another big-time weapon at his disposal. Here is a closer look at what it could mean for the fantasy football prospects of some of New York's top stars.
Adams has missed the Raiders' past three games due to a hamstring injury, but before that, he had recorded 18 receptions for 209 yards and one touchdown through three games.
Entering the 2024 campaign, Adams had four consecutive seasons with at least 100 catches, 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns. He split that time between the Raiders and Green Bay Packers.
Over his final two seasons in Green Bay, Adams scored a career-high 18 touchdowns in 2020 and set career highs with 123 catches for 1,553 yards in 2021, helping Rodgers win back-to-back NFL MVP awards.
Adams was traded to Vegas prior to the 2022 campaign, where he reunited with his collegiate teammate, quarterback Derek Carr. They showed they still had plenty of chemistry, as Adams finished with 100 catches for 1,516 yards and a league-high 14 scores.
The Raiders released Carr after the season, replacing him with veteran Jimmy Garoppolo, but Jimmy G didn't last long as the starter before he was replaced by then-rookie fourth-round pick Aidan O'Connell.
The turnover at quarterback clearly impacted Adams' production last season, but he still finished with 103 catches for 1,144 yards and eight touchdowns.
Las Vegas signed veteran Gardner Minshew during the offseason and named him the starter over O'Connell, but he and Adams clearly didn't have the same type of connection that Adams had with Rodgers and Carr previously.
Adams will have more familiar surroundings in New York with Rodgers throwing him the ball. That figures to result in more production compared to what he did during the first three games of the season with Vegas.
Unlike with the Raiders, Adams won't necessarily be the unquestioned No. 1 option in the passing game in New York due to the presence of Garrett Wilson. But thanks to his experience playing alongside Rodgers, he still figures to receive a ton of targets.
Also, a huge uptick in quarterback play from Minshew to Rodgers should help mitigate any potential drop-off in targets if there is one.
Adams was a somewhat borderline WR1 in fantasy football entering the season, but he should be a very strong WR2 in New York with plenty of potential to be a WR1 depending on the distribution of targets.
Rodgers has seemingly only had trust in two wideouts this season. Wilson is at the top of the list, as he leads the team with 41 receptions and 399 receiving yards and has caught three touchdowns.
He has been especially good the past two weeks after a slow start during the first month. He had 13 catches for 103 yards and a score against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5 and eight receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown in Week 6 against the Bills.
Wilson has a combined 33 targets over the past two weeks. While that almost certainly won't be sustainable with Adams in the fold, his efficiency should have a good chance of improving now that Adams will command some extra defensive attention.
So far this season, Wilson has clearly been the primary Jets receiver whom teams have game-planned for. That's a big reason why he has had to largely settle for underneath passes and is averaging just 9.7 yards per catch.
Allen Lazard, who was Rodgers' teammate in Green Bay along with Adams, has feasted down the field as a result, registering 26 catches for 354 yards and a league-leading five touchdown catches.
While Rodgers clearly has a great deal of belief in Lazard, he seems likely to take a much bigger fantasy hit than Wilson with the arrival of Adams since Adams typically does much of his damage on downfield throws as well.
Wilson can continue to be Rodgers' primary option on shorter throws, but with Adams oftentimes drawing double coverage and taking multiple defensive backs with him down the field, there should be more room for Wilson to operate.
That means Wilson's overall production may be go down a bit in point-per-reception leagues especially, but his yardage and touchdown numbers should remain steady even with fewer targets and catches.
Wilson remains a strong WR2 and borderline WR1 in fantasy even with Adams in the fold, while Lazard drops down to a FLEX option at best. No. 4 wide receiver Mike Williams will be unplayable.
Rodgers is a four-time NFL MVP and future first-ballot Hall of Famer, but he wasn't viewed as much more than a QB2 in fantasy entering the season since he is 40 years old and coming off a torn Achilles.
Not surprisingly, his results have been mixed for far. He is completing 61.8 percent of his passes for 1,387 yards, nine touchdowns and five interceptions, including three picks in a Week 5 loss to Minnesota.
Rodgers alternates between looking like his old self and looking like a quarterback whose best days are behind him. But with Adams joining an offense that already included Wilson, Lazard and two talented running backs in Breece Hall and Braelon Allen, Rodgers is worth a roster spot in standard leagues at the very least.
Against a Buffalo team with plenty of defensive talent, Rodgers largely played an excellent game in Week 6. He went 23-of-35 for 294 yards with two touchdowns, including a picture-perfect Hail Mary to Lazard for a touchdown at the end of the first half.
Rodgers' one major miscue was an interception thrown to Bills cornerback Taron Johnson on what proved to be New York's final offensive play of the game, but that play was seemingly more on Williams, who slipped and fell on his route.
The veteran signal-caller was under siege at times, though, getting sacked three times. He has been sacked a total of 11 times over the past three weeks, calling the quality of his offensive line into question.
Rodgers also doesn't have much mobility left in his legs, so he could struggle to produce against top defenses even with an elite wide receiver tandem.
While Rodgers is far from a slam-dunk weekly starter in standard fantasy leagues, he should be started in leagues that start two quarterbacks, and he is worth consideration in standard leagues based on matchups.
In Week 7, the Jets go on the road to face a Pittsburgh Steelers team that is eighth in the league in total defense and second in scoring defense, and is led by arguably the NFL's top pass-rusher in T.J. Watt.
As a result, even if Adams plays in Week 7, it may be best for Rodgers to be left on fantasy benches until he gets a better matchup.
Jets' Garrett Wilson 'Cool' with Davante Adams Trade Rumors: 'If It Helps Us Win'

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson says it would be "cool" for his team to make a trade to acquire six-time Pro Bowl wideout Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders.
"I feel like it's cool if we get him up here," Adams told reporters on Friday. "Like I always say, if someone can help us win, let's do it."
Adams requested a trade from the Raiders on Monday, per The Athletic's Tashan Reed and Vic Tafur. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday that the Jets are high on Adams' "wishlist of places to land."
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport similarly reported on Thursday that the Jets would be Adams' preferred trade destination.
According to Schefter, Adams "ideally would like to play with a QB he knows," and the receiver served as a primary target for Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers during his eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers between 2014 and 2021.
Rodgers told reporters on Friday that he "still has a close friendship" with Adams.
"We spent time in the offseason together," Rodgers said. "He's a great guy, and a great player, and the rest of that's out of my hands."
"I don't know how much I can say about it because of tampering, but I still have a close friendship with him. We spent time in the offseason together. He's a great guy and a great player."
Rapoport noted, however, that Adams "has not demanded" a trade to New York, and that the New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers are other potential trade destinations.
Schefter reported heading into Week 4 that Adams is considered "week to week" with a hamstring injury, so the wideout may not be able to play immediately even after a trade.
When healthy, if Adams does rejoin Rodgers in New York, he would slot into a receiver depth chart currently led by Wilson and Allen Lazard. Running back Breece Hall and tight end Tyler Conklin have so also served as regular targets for Rodgers.
Wilson, who has one receiving touchdown through four games, recently said in an appearance on ESPN Radio's "Bart & Hahn" that he's been working on adjusting to new routes with the Jets this season. The potential addition of Adams would likely lead to further adjustments for Wilson as second-year Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett works to slot in another top receiver for Rodgers.
Sources have told Schefter that the Raiders would think about trading Adams for a second-round draft pick "and additional compensation," according to ESPN's Katherine Terrell.
The Jets currently hold eight picks in the 2025 draft, and their win-now aspirations in Rodgers' potential final season could lead them to deal one for a player who could help them this fall. Jets general manager Joe Douglas will need to decide whether the Jets want to give up that capital, and take on Adams' current cap hit of around $13 million, in order to make the Raiders an offer.

EA Sports released its weekly ratings update on Thursday, with Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry, Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels and Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff highlighting the adjustments.
Henry was bumped up by one rating point to a 96 overall after rushing for 199 yards and accumulating two touchdowns against the Buffalo Bills in Week 4. It was his second straight game with over 100 rushing yards and a pair of scores.
Daniels, meanwhile, was bumped up to a 79 overall—an increase by three ratings points—after throwing for 233 yards, a touchdown and an interception in a 42-14 blowout win over the Arizona Cardinals. He also added 47 rushing yards and a score, and saw his awareness get a plus-three boost to 74, his throwing under pressure get a plus-two boost to 82, his short throw accuracy get a plus-4 boost to 91 and his middle throw accuracy get a plus-two boost to an 82.
Goff, meanwhile, is up to an 82 overall—a plus-three bump—after going a perfect 18-of-18 in Week 4's win over the Seattle Seahawks for 292 yards and two touchdowns. And yes, his catching got a plus-19 boost to a 43 and his short route running went up nine points to a 27 after his touchdown reception in the game.
Notable fallers in the rankings included Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews (minus-one to 92 overall), Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. (minus-one to 89 overall), New York Jets wideout Garrett Wilson (minus-one to 85 overall) and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (minus-one to 84 overall).

Through the first four weeks of the 2024 season, the connection between New York Jets star quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Garrett Wilson has not taken off the way many had expected.
However, head coach Robert Saleh isn't concerned about the early lack of chemistry between Rodgers and Wilson, telling reporters on Wednesday, "I'm still not worried about it. They'll get on the same page."
During training camp, Rodgers and Wilson put together an incredible highlight reel that had many believing they would be one of the most effective duos in the league.
Unfortunately, Wilson is off to a slow start with 20 catches for 191 yards and one touchdown, averaging 47.8 yards per game. The two of them struggled to connect down the stretch in New York's disappointing 10-9 loss to the Denver Broncos this past Sunday, with Rodgers looking visibly frustrated.
Wilson is one of the most promising young talents in the NFL, recording over 1,000 yards in his first two seasons in the league despite the Jets being mired by subpar quarterback play. With a future Hall of Famer like Rodgers under center, the 24-year-old should be on the cusp of a breakout performance.
It will take some time, but once Rodgers and Wilson start clicking, the Jets offense will benefit in a big way.
