Garrett Wilson Says Jets Love Zach Wilson and Criticism 'Wasn't Personal'

New York Jets receiver Garrett Wilson said his past criticism of the team's offense prior to the quarterback switch from Zach Wilson to Mike White was just business.

"Zach knows it wasn't personal. We love Zach," Garrett Wilson said. "A QB change is just what it is—a QB change. But as an offense, we were playing bad and we had to solve a lot more things than that."

The rookie was one of the more outspoken players after the team's 10-3 loss to the New England Patriots in Week 11.

"This s--t is sorry," Wilson told reporters. "We're out here looking sorry."

The Jets benched Wilson after that game, with White replacing him as the starting quarterback. The team is 1-1 since, although the offense has looked better with 53 points scored in the two games combined.

White has thrown for over 300 yards in each of his starts, something Wilson did only once in his seven appearances. Garrett Wilson has also thrived after the quarterback change with 13 catches for 257 yards and two touchdowns in the last two games.

Other players also showed their support for White with shirts before the Week 13 game against the Minnesota Vikings:

It could be seen as a slight against Zach Wilson, who was considered the team's quarterback of the future after being drafted No. 2 overall in 2021.

As Garrett Wilson noted, however, it's simply about winning. Right now, White gives the squad a better chance to compete.

One of the NFL's best defensive players highlights the Madden 23 player ratings after Week 13: Nick Bosa.

The San Francisco 49ers edge-rusher rose to a 97 overall after having been rated 96 overall since Week 9.

Bosa assembled a dominant performance in San Francisco's 33-17 win over the Miami Dolphins last week, posting three sacks, three tackles, two tackles for loss, four quarterback hits and a forced fumble.

At Madden 23's launch, Bosa was rated 94 overall.

Through 11 games this season, Bosa has recorded 14.5 sacks, 36 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 34 quarterback hits and one forced fumble. His career high in sacks is 15.5, which he posted last season.

Another player who saw his Madden 23 rating increase is Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown. He rose to a 92 from a 91, which he had been at since Week 11.

Brown had an impressive performance in Philadelphia's 35-10 win over the Tennessee Titans, his former team, last week, catching eight passes for 119 yards and two scores on 10 targets.

The 25-year-old has been dominant in his first season with the Eagles, catching 61 passes for 950 yards and nine touchdowns in 12 games. He's on pace to break his career-high 1,075 yards and 11 touchdowns, which he posted in 2020.

Brown isn't the only receiver to stand out, though. Rookie wideout Garrett Wilson has been on a roll for the New York Jets, and he saw his rating increase to 82 following Week 13.

Wilson had the best game of his young career in last week's loss to the Minnesota Vikings, catching eight passes for 162 yards on 15 targets. Wilson had been rated 81 overall since Week 9.

The Ohio State product is in contention to be named Offensive Rookie of the Year, having caught 57 passes for 790 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games.

While a number of players saw their ratings rise, some ratings dropped—one of the most significant being Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, who fell from a 93 overall to a 91.

Even though Brady led the Bucs to a miraculous comeback victory over the New Orleans Saints last week, he posted an 84.0 quarterback rating after completing 36 of 54 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns against one interception.

The Buccaneers are set to take on Bosa and the 49ers on Sunday.

Another player who saw his rating drop after Week 13 is Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, who fell to a 92 from a 93.

Taylor hasn't been as significant of a factor for the Colts over the last three weeks, rushing for 84 yards, 86 yards and 82 yards, respectively, over Indy's last three games. He hasn't rushed for more than 100 yards since a Week 10 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Garrett Wilson Calls Out Jets' Offensive Struggles vs. Patriots: 'This S--t is Sorry'

The New York Jets suffered a crushing 10-3 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday, and rookie wide receiver Garrett Wilson did not hold back his anger after a disappointing offensive performance in which the team totaled just 103 yards.

"This s--t is sorry," Wilson told reporters. "We're out here looking sorry—and we know that we're not sorry. That's why it really hurts. We know we're better than that. That's why it hurts."

Jets quarterback Zach Wilson threw for just 77 yards and led the team with 26 rushing yards. The offense mustered just two yards in the entire second half and never reached the red zone. New York lost on an 84-yard punt return by New England's Marcus Jones with five seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. The loss dropped the Jets to last place in the AFC East.

According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, Garrett Wilson could be heard shouting at no one in particular "I'm done with this!" as he stormed into the locker room after the loss. He then let loose as he spoke with reporters, indicating that there are issues of preparation and accountability within the team.

"It starts in practice," he said. "It's got to be better, the things we see and don't call out. It has to start getting called out. This is unacceptable. No one wants to feel like this, but that's not enough. ... Hopefully, this is a wake-up for some people in the facility, people in the facility to get on their details."

While he didn't single anyone out specifically and stressed "it's all of us," Garrett Wilson appeared to be calling out Zach Wilson and the coaching staff. He said the coaches "have to put more trust in the receiver room," and he seemed to express frustration with the game plan.

"It starts during the week in practice—coaching, all of that," he said. "We have to be detailed. We all have to have a better plan. This s--t's not OK. Straight up. It's not OK. How many total yards did we have? Yeah, that s--t's not going to fly."

Garrett Wilson's comments are some much-needed fire for the Jets and contrast the stoic Zach Wilson, who said he doesn't feel like the offense let the defense down despite the poor showing. New York's defense finished with six sacks.

"Let's call it like it is: We have to be better in the passing game if we want to be where we want to be at," Garrett Wilson said. "And we know we can be there, that's the most frustrating part. We don't have to be in games like this. They didn't even score on offense, and we lost the game. Me, personally, I think we have to take it for what it is. We got our ass beat on offense, and the results showed."

The Jets (6-4) will look for a better result when they host the Chicago Bears (3-8) next Sunday.

Jets' Statement Upset of Bills Makes AFC East the NFL’s Most Intriguing Division

When the 2022 season began, the AFC East was considered a foregone conclusion. It was the Buffalo Bills' world, and the Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots and New York Jets were just living in it.

However, a funny thing has happened on the way to Buffalo's supposed coronation. After getting stunned by the Jets in Week 9, the 6-2 Bills are less than a game up on New York and Miami (both 6-3), which outlasted the Bears in Chicago. With the Patriots also taking care of business at home Sunday against the Colts to improve to 5-4, every team in the AFC East is above .500 after nine weeks.

A division that was supposed to be a runaway is wide open heading into the second half of the 2022 regular season. More than that, the AFC East has become the most intriguing division race in the league.

Week 9 wasn't supposed to go this way for the Bills. After downing the Green Bay Packers last week, the Bills had won four straight, including a statement win at Arrowhead Stadium over the Kansas City Chiefs. At 6-1, the Bills had the best record in the AFC and were regarded by most as the best team in the conference. Buffalo entered Sunday's games as a double-digit favorite over the Jets, which were coming off a loss to the Patriots.

The problem is that no one told the Jets they were supposed to lose. In fact, there are a lot of things people apparently forgot to tell the Jets about their prospects in 2022.

You would be hard-pressed to find anyone outside the Jets locker room who gave the team a chance to do much of anything this season. But despite being without starting quarterback Zach Wilson to open the season, the Jets hit Week 9 as a 5-3 team.

While the Jets had a winning record, though, the team lacked a true statement win. New York blew out the Dolphins back in Week 5, but that was when Miami was forced to roll out its third-string quarterback.

Gang Green got its statement win Sunday.

New York's upset win was the team's season in a nutshell. Despite losing rookie running back Breece Hall to a season-ending ACL tear a few weeks ago, New York piled up 175 rushing yards against one of the NFL's best defenses. New York's defense played Buffalo's explosive offense as well as any team has this season, limiting the Bills to a season-low 17 points, including just three in the second half.

As has been the case all season long, the Jets got big contributions from first-round rookies Garrett Wilson (eight catches, 92 yards) and Ahmad Gardner (seven tackles, interception). Wilson didn't light it up through the air, but he didn't make mistakes, either.

And most importantly, despite playing in a back-and-forth game as a heavy underdog, the Jets never panicked. As head coach Robert Saleh told reporters after the game, this is a team that believes it can win games.

"We're too young to flinch," Saleh said. "I know a lot of people are going to be surprised, right? I don't think there's a person surprised in the locker room."

To say that's a change in culture is an understatement.

For the Bills, the loss was hardly the end of the world. Buffalo remains the No. 1 seed in the AFC and the front-runner in the division. The Bills possess a top-three offense and a top-three defense and may well be the most complete team in the league. They just didn't look it on Sunday, and after a shaky performance against the Jets, Bills quarterback Josh Allen put the blame for the loss squarely on himself.

"It's tough to win in this league when you're playing a good team and your quarterback plays like s--t," Allen said. "Made some bad decisions tonight. Really cost our team."

It isn't panic time in Buffalo—not even close. But the Bills' two losses this season are both inside the division. The Jets and Dolphins are both right on their heels, and each of them has a head-to-head win over the Bills. The margin for error in Western New York is gone, and next week the Bills have to take on a one-loss Vikings team.

While the Jets were stunning the Bills at Met Life Stadium, the Dolphins were taking care of business in Chicago. Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had another big game, throwing for 302 yards and three scores while drawing praise from head coach Mike McDaniel.

"The growth has been unbelievable in how he's playing the position, learning the whole system and then how he's handling the ebbs and flows of natural, in-game momentum," McDaniel told reporters. "Saw it again today."

Granted, it helps to have Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle to throw to, but Tagovailoa has made massive strides as a passer in 2022. And while the Dolphins are 6-3, all three losses came in games where Tagovailoa either sat out or was forced from the contest. Tagovailoa has finished six games this season. The Dolphins have won all six.

Then there's the 5-4 Patriots, who have seemingly been all but forgotten. New England pummeled the Colts 26-3 Sunday with a dominant defensive performance that left head coach Bill Belichick absolutely beaming while speaking to reporters.

"We got pressure on early downs and created some long-yardage situations," Belichick said. "Anytime you have good pass rush, you have good coverage. And anytime you have good coverage, you have good pass rush."

OK, so he wasn't actually beaming. But he was surely smiling on the inside, because while the Pats may not have the offensive firepower of the Bills and Dolphins, they have a defense that will keep them in most games.

There isn't a bad team in the division. There are no easy outs. And with plenty of games against one another still to be played, the second half of the race in the AFC East should be fascinating.

The AFC East isn't the only division in the league high on intrigue. There are three teams in the NFC East with at least six wins, including the league's last undefeated team. The NFC West and AFC West haven't lived up to preseason expectations, but both divisions are loaded with talent.

But if drama is your thing, the AFC East is the place to be. Because whether it's the loaded Bills, the explosive Dolphins, the upstart Jets or Darth Hoodie's Patriots, there isn't a bad team to be found. It's a race that could (and probably will) go down to the wire.

And as it turns out, the ending to that story may not be as preordained as we thought.
