Aaron Rodgers Rips Rumors on Jets' Culture, Jokes Haason Reddick's Agent Was Source

In late August, an unnamed NFL agent didn't mince words about the New York Jets' culture to Ben Standig of The Athletic, specifically citing quarterback Aaron Rodgers:

"There is complete disarray over there. Look at how they've handled Aaron Rodgers. Has one player had more power than him? He skipped minicamp. They have been unable to convert him into a team player. The vibe inside the building is terrible."

Rodgers was asked about those comments during his weekly Pat McAfee Show appearance, and it's safe to say that he disagrees (2:05 mark).

"I would say the culture here is about the opposite of what that headline said. I didn't read the article, but just reading that headline there, it sounds like it was written by Haason Reddick's agent...former agent I guess, possibly, in a way to try and disparage our great organization."

The Jets acquired Reddick, a two-time Pro Bowl edge-rusher, via trade from the Philadelphia Eagles in March.

However, Reddick held out for the entire preseason and even issued a new trade request in search of a new contract (he is in the final year of a three-year, $45 million contract with a non-guaranteed $14.25 million in base pay, per ESPN's Rich Cimini). Reddick has missed the first three regular season games as well.

Reddick's agent is still Tory Dandy, managing partner/co-head of CAA Sports' football division. There's no reports that Dandy is now his former agent, and Reddick is still continuing his holdout. There is also no report pulling back the reported trade request.

As for the culture, everything seems great in New York, which is 2-1 and building off the high of a dominant 24-3 home win over the New England Patriots last Thursday.

McAfee pointed out various Pats hits on Jets players that occurred during the game and showed how Gang Green had each other's backs. Rodgers elaborated on the positivity of the Jets' culture, specifically the offensive line's role.

Ultimately, everything seems to be going great in New York. Up next is a home game against the 1-2 Broncos before the Jets played three of the remaining five undefeated teams in succession: the Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Haason Reddick Posts Cryptic Message Amid Jets Contract Holdout, NFL Trade Rumors

Haason Reddick has broken his silence amid his ongoing holdout from the New York Jets while awaiting a new contract and speculation about a potential trade.

The two-time Pro Bowler made a cryptic post on X:

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported prior to the Week 2 game against the Tennessee Titans that a deal between the Jets and Reddick "doesn't appear anywhere close" at the moment.

Schefter noted that Reddick has already lost about $8 million between fines, bonus forfeiture and unearned salary from sitting out the first two games. Assuming his holdout doesn't end on Thursday, when the Jets host the New England Patriots, he will lose a third game check.

On Sept. 11, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported the feeling among people within the NFL is that the Jets are "more likely" to trade Reddick at some point before the Nov. 5 trade deadline.

It's worth noting that report came out before Jermaine Johnson suffered a torn Achilles in New York's win over the Titans on Sunday. Will McDonald IV is off to a strong start with three sacks in two games, but the Jets don't have the same depth along the defensive line they did in past years.

The Jets acquired Reddick in April from the Philadelphia Eagles for a conditional 2026 draft pick. This is the final season of a three-year, $45 million contract he originally signed with the Eagles in March 2022.

Reddick, who didn't participate in organized team activities or mandatory minicamp before skipping the entire preseason, requested a trade from the Jets on Aug. 12.

The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt and Dianna Russini noted at the time the Jets traded for Reddick, they "never made a new offer on a long-term extension because they were informed by Reddick's rep that he would play under his current contract."

Jets general manager Joe Douglas said in a statement after the request they informed Reddick he would not be traded, "and that he will continue to be fined per the CBA if he does not report."

Reddick has recorded at least 11 sacks in each of the past four seasons. His 50.5 sacks during that span was the fourth-most in the NFL.

Haason Reddick Out 'About $8M' Total by Missing Jets' W2 Game amid Contract Holdout

New York Jets linebacker Haason Reddick is willing to pay a steep short-term cost for a bigger long-term payday.

Ahead of the Jets' game against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that a new contract for Reddick "doesn't appear anywhere close at this time." As a result, his missed earnings will climb to "about $8 million" overall thanks to his ongoing holdout.

The Jets knew when they acquired Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles in April they were heading toward a potential standoff. His desire for a long-term extension was out in the open.

New York may not have thought the two-time Pro Bowler's resolve would be this strong, though. As demonstrated by Reddick, the financial consequences of a regular-season holdout are so punitive that a player has to wave the white flag sooner or later.

Both sides have held firm throughout the process. ESPN's Rich Cimini reported on Reddick's trade request in August, writing that the Jets "won't negotiate with a player unless he's in camp." But Reddick wouldn't show up without an agreement in place.

At this point, the 29-year-old might be banking on New York having the kind of poor start that leads the front office to blink.

The Jets got pushed around in their 32-19 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1. Niners running back ran for 147 yards and averaged 5.3 yards per carry, while Brock Purdy threw for 231 yards and didn't have any interceptions.

The franchise clearly envisioned Reddick playing a big role in 2024 considering it sent a conditional third-round pick to Philly for a player on an expiring contract. He might gain serious leverage if New York's defense doesn't improve in the coming weeks.

NFL Rumors: Execs Believe Haason Reddick Trade Likely amid Jets Contract Holdout

Multiple NFL executives believe the New York Jets are likely to trade Haason Reddick amid the edge-rusher's holdout for a new contract, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported.

"Their options appear clear: keep him on the reserve list until he reports or attempt to trade him closer to the trade deadline. The latter is looking more likely, according to multiple league execs," Fowler wrote.

One anonymous NFC executive told Fowler: "Not sure they have a choice. They wouldn't get similar value back [a third-rounder], but it would be hard [for the Jets] to pay him at this point, and he clearly doesn't want to be there. Both sides badly mismanaged the situation."

The Jets traded a conditional third-round 2026 pick to acquire Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles in April, but he has yet to practice or play amid his holdout for a new deal. He requested a trade, which New York denied, in August.

"We have informed Haason that we will not trade him, that he is expected to be here with his teammates, and that he will continue to be fined per the CBA if he does not report," general manager Joe Douglas said in an August statement, per ESPN's Rich Cimini. "Since the trade discussions back in March we have been clear, direct, and consistent with our position. Our focus will remain on the guys we have here as we prepare for the regular season."

According to Cimini, the Jets refused to negotiate with Reddick until he reported to the team, while Reddick refused to report without a new contract.

The 29-year-old remained on the Jets' reserve/did not report list ahead of the team's season-opening loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday.

After accruing more than $5.8 million in fines from sitting out the Jets' training camp and preseason, Reddick lost almost $800,000 in salary for sitting out Week 1, per Spotrac.

The defensive end will miss out on earning the same amount for every subsequent regular-season game he misses, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Last season, Reddick earned the second straight Pro Bowl nod of his career as he recorded 11.0 sacks and 38 combined tackles. He had totaled 27.0 sacks over two seasons with the Eagles.

He is currently heading into the final year of an expiring contract, which offers him a non-guaranteed base salary of $14.25 million for the 2024 season.

Reddick is looking for a contract in the range of $25 million per year, The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt reported in August. That annual average value would rank him beside Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett among the top six highest-paid edge-rushers in the NFL.

Rosenblatt added that this asking price limited Reddick's trade market when he was looking for a way out of Philadelphia.

The ongoing holdout is likely to further lower the asking price the Jets could get for the Temple product, considering his inability to work out a new deal has now spanned to two different teams.

The Jets were hoping to upgrade their pass rush with the offseason acquisition of Reddick, and without him may have to lean on a relatively untested player in 2023 first-rounder Will McDonald.

As the holdout stretches closer to the Nov. 5 trade deadline, Jets general manager Joe Douglas may start testing the trade market for Reddick nonetheless.

As veteran edge-rusher Haason Reddick continues his holdout from the New York Jets ahead of Monday night's season opener against the San Francisco 49ers, the money he's losing is starting to pile up.

Per The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt, Reddick is set to forfeit a game check of $791,666 for missing Monday's game and every subsequent game he misses. As ESPN's Adam Schefter noted, this is on top of the $5 million in mandated fines he's already racked up from the NFL for his holdout.

Reddick was placed on the reserve/did not report list at the start of training camp and was absent for the entirety of the Jets' offseason program after the team acquired him in a trade from the Philadelphia Eagles in March. Reddick requested to be traded from New York last month, but general manager Joe Douglas announced that he has no intentions of fulfilling that request.

While there doesn't appear to be an end coming for Reddick's holdout anytime soon, Jets head coach Robert Saleh maintained his public support of the 29-year-old.

"I'll stand firm that when he gets here, we're going to welcome him with open arms," Saleh said Saturday, per ESPN's Rich Cimini. "We're going to love him up, and he's going to be a part of this football team and he's going to help us win a lot of football games. He's got to sort through the financial stuff, which is none of my business."

Reddick and his agent have yet to publicly comment on what they hope to achieve from this holdout. While it's clear that the two-time Pro Bowler was hoping to get a raise from the $14.25 million he's set to make in the final year of his current contract, a holdout for the entire season would result in the Jets maintaining his rights for the 2025 campaign.

Perhaps New York's performance on Monday Night Football against San Francisco will help sway Reddick's desire to put an end to the fines he's accumulating and join the team.

Jets Rumors: Haason Reddick Ready to 'Die on This Sword' amid Contract Holdout

Veteran pass-rusher Haason Reddick is reportedly not expected to budge when it comes to his demands for a new contract.

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, a source said Reddick has the "mindset that he will die on this sword," with regard to wanting a new deal before reporting to the New York Jets.

Russini added that it is considered a long shot for Reddick to play for the Jets in their season opener on Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers, and it remains unclear if he will report to the team at any point after that.

New York acquired Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles back in March for a conditional 2026 third-round pick. Coincidentally, he was meant to replace Bryce Huff, who left the Jets for the Eagles in free agency.

However, 2024 is the final year on Reddick's contract, and he made it clear that he wanted a new deal before joining the team.

As a result, Reddick did not report throughout training camp or the preseason, and he remains a holdout with no signs of a resolution any time soon.

Russini noted that Reddick's representatives have been in contact with the Jets, but the Jets' stance is for Reddick to "show up, then we'll talk."

Reddick requested a trade last month, but the Jets released a statement in which they noted that they would not trade Reddick and informed him of their stance.

A Pro Bowler in each of his past two seasons, Reddick established himself as one of the league's top pass-rushers during his two seasons in Philly.

Reddick, who will turn 30 on Sept. 22, had a career-high 16 sacks in 2022 en route to finishing fourth in NFL Defensive Player of the Year voting, and he followed it up with 11 sacks last year, which was good for his second straight Pro Bowl nod.

In 114 career regular-season games with the Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers and Eagles, Reddick has 58 sacks, 69 tackles for loss and 16 forced fumbles to his credit.

The Jets could use that type of production, but even if he doesn't join the team, they may have enough talent to get by.

Jermaine Johnson was named a Pro Bowler in his second NFL season in 2023 by virtue of recording 7.5 sacks, while 2023 first-round pick Will McDonald showed flashes as a rookie with three sacks.

With or without Reddick, the Jets will have a tough test on their hands Monday when they go on the road to face the reigning NFC champion 49ers led by running back Christian McCaffrey, quarterback Brock Purdy, wide receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel, and tight end George Kittle.

NFL Rumors: 'No One Knows' Haason Reddick's Plans amid Jets Contract Holdout

With just four days remaining before they open the 2024 regular season, the New York Jets are running out of time to find a resolution to Haason Reddick's ongoing holdout before he starts missing real games.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that in talking to people on both sides of the situation that "no one knows" what Reddick is going to do as he continues to wait for a new contract.

Reddick has shown no inclination to do anything with the Jets until they either extend his contract or make an adjustment to his current deal that will pay him more money.

The Jets originally acquired Reddick in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles on April 1. He skipped all of the team's offseason activities, including mandatory minicamp, training camp and preseason to rack up more than $2 million in fines.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport noted at the start of training camp that Reddick was seeking an adjustment to his contract. The two-time Pro Bowler has a $14.25 million base salary this season in the final year of a three-year, $45 million contract signed in March 2022.

In the same article as Fowler's report, ESPN's Dan Graziano noted the Jets' coaching staff "has basically had no communication with Reddick" since he was officially introduced by the team in April.

New York's pass-rush is in a tricky spot going into the regular season. Bryce Huff was the most productive edge player on the team last year with 21 quarterback hits and 10 sacks.

The Eagles, in a shrewd piece of business, signed Huff to a three-year contract before trading Reddick to the Jets.

New York has depth on its defensive line with former first-round picks Jermaine Johnson and Will McDonald IV poised to take on an expanded role, but it's hard to know how much of an impact they will make until they actually do it in games.

Johnson was named to the Pro Bowl last season after recording 7.5 sacks in 17 starts. McDonald finished with three sacks as a rotation player during his rookie campaign.

Reddick has recorded at least 16 quarterback hits and 11 sacks in each of the past four seasons. He has also been extremely durable throughout his career with just one missed game in seven seasons.

Thursday could be a key date for the two sides since the Jets will hold their first official practice leading up to Week 1. If Reddick isn't with the team, it would be hard to envision him getting enough reps to play.

The Jets will open the 2024 season on Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium.
