New York Jets had coach Robert Saleh suggested Tuesday that there has been no movement on the Haason Reddick contract front.

According to SNY's Connor Hughes, Saleh said there is "nothing new" to report on Reddick, which puts the veteran pass-rusher very much in jeopardy of missing the Jets' 2024 regular-season opener against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night.

Per Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, Saleh added that he has not personally spoken to Reddick since before training camp.

The Jets acquired Reddick in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles during the offseason, but he has not reported to the team and is holding out for a new contract.

Per ESPN's Rich Cimini, Reddick requested a trade last month, but the Jets responded with a statement, saying they "will not trade him."

Reddick who will turn 30 on Sept. 22, played the best football of his seven-year NFL career with the Eagles over the past two seasons.

After recording 12.5 sacks in his final season with the Arizona Cardinals in 2020 and 11 sacks in his only campaign with the Carolina Panthers in 2021, Reddick established himself as one of the league's best edge rushers in 2022.

Making his debut for an Eagles team that reached the Super Bowl, Reddick finished with a career-high 16 sacks and led the NFL with five forced fumbles, resulting in his first Pro Bowl selection, a spot on the All-Pro Second Team and a fourth-place finish in NFL Defensive Player of the Year voting.

Reddick's numbers weren't quite as strong last season, but he still secured a second consecutive Pro Bowl nod by virtue of his fourth straight double-digit sack season with 11.

With Reddick set to enter the final season of a three-year, $45 million contract he signed in 2022, the Eagles traded him to the Jets for a conditional 2026 third-round draft pick.

That came after the Eagles signed pass-rusher Bryce Huff to a three-year deal in free agency. Coincidentally, Huff spent his first four NFL seasons with the Jets and had a career-high 10 sacks last season.

The acquisition of Reddick was meant to soften the blow of Huff's departure, but with Reddick still away from the team, all signs point toward the Jets starting the 2024 season without him.

Assuming Reddick does not play Monday against the Niners, the Jets will rely on a pair of recent first-round picks to provide pressure on 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy off the edge.

Leading the way is 2022 first-round pick Jermaine Johnson II, who broke out in his second season with 55 tackles, 7.5 sacks and seven passes defended in 2023, earning him a Pro Bowl selection.

The Jets also figure to lean heavily on 2023 first-round pick Will McDonald IV, who had three sacks as a rookie last season in a situational role.

New York will also expect plenty of pass-rushing production out of two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, who has 33 sacks over five NFL seasons, including a career-high 12 in 2022.

Jets GM Douglas: 'I Have Faith' Haason Reddick Contract Situation Will Be 'Resolved'

Star pass-rusher Haason Reddick has not reported to the New York Jets since they acquired him from the Philadelphia Eagles in March, but general manager Joe Douglas isn't giving up hope on the two sides finding common ground.

On Thursday, Douglas told ESPN's Rich Cimini, "I have faith this will all get resolved," when asked about Reddick.

Reddick, who is entering the final year of his contract, is in search of a new deal, but with him and the Jets unable to agree to terms thus far, he requested a trade earlier this month, per CImini.

However, the Jets subsequently released a statement in which they insisted that he will not be dealt.

Although Reddick has not taken part in training camp or any offseason activities with the Jets, head coach Robert Saleh suggested Tuesday that it was still possible for him to be ready to play Week 1, telling Cimini: "Like I said, he's a veteran. He knows what he needs to get ready. He's had success in multiple buildings and multiple schemes with coaching staffs, and so he's going to know what he needs to do to be ready for Week 1. So, he still has plenty of time."

As of Thursday, Reddick has been holding out from the Jets for 38 days, and he is quickly approaching $2 million in fines as a result.

The 29-year-old veteran was originally a first-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2017 NFL draft out of Temple. He played four seasons with the Cards, signed a one-year contract with the Carolina Panthers and then signed a three-year, $45 million deal with the Eagles in 2022.

Reddick has four consecutive double-digit sack seasons to his credit, and he enjoyed two of the best years of his career in Philly.

In 2022, Reddick set a career-high with 16 sacks and led the NFL with five forced fumbles, earning his first career Pro Bowl nod and a fourth-place finish in NFL Defensive Player of the Year voting.

He followed that up last season with 11 sacks, and he was once again named to the Pro Bowl.

The Eagles traded Reddick to the Jets for a conditional 2026 third-round pick just a couple of weeks after signing pass-rusher Bryce Huff away from the Jets in free agency.

If the Jets are unable to figure out a resolution with Reddick prior to the start of the season, they are set to enter the year with a pair of recent first-round picks as their primary rushers off the edge.

Jermaine Johnson, a 2022 first-round pick out of Florida State, broke out with 7.5 sacks last season, while 2023 first-rounder Will McDonald IV out of Iowa State had just three sacks as a rookie.

The Jets start their schedule with a Monday Night Football road game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 9, and they will look to take the first step toward ending their 13-year playoff drought.

Veteran edge rusher Haason Reddick has yet to report to the New York Jets while he continues holding out for a new contract, but head coach Robert Saleh said there's still a chance he will be able to suit up for the team's season opener.

"Yeah, depending on -- I'm assuming he's in phenomenal shape," Saleh said Tuesday before practice, per ESPN's Rich Cimini. "Like I said, he's a veteran. He knows what he needs to get ready. He's had success in multiple buildings and multiple schemes with coaching staffs, and so he's going to know what he needs to do to be ready for Week 1. So, he still has plenty of time."

The Jets acquired Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles in March in exchange for a 2026 conditional third-round pick. The 29-year-old is entering the final year of his contract and made it clear that he wants a new deal, as he skipped the entirety of New York's offseason program and training camp. His holdout has now reached 36 days, accruing $1.8 million in fines.

Reddick went as far as to request a trade earlier this month, but general manager Joe Douglas released a statement saying that the team won't ship him away.

Reddick has yet to comment publicly on his holdout, but on Monday, he had a workout released through his personal trainer.

Saleh said he didn't see the video and added that he hasn't reached out to Reddick amid his holdout and still has no plans to do so.

"I've just been focusing on the guys that have been here," Saleh said.

The Jets are set to open the season on Sept. 9 on Monday Night Football against the reigning NFC champion San Francisco 49ers. New York is hoping to end a 13-year playoff drought that is the longest current streak in North American sports, and having Reddick in the fold would certainly boost the team's chances of achieving that goal.

Time is running out before the season begins, so Saleh is surely hoping that a resolution with Reddick is reached soon.

New York Jets star quarterback Aaron Rodgers understands the perspective of disgruntled linebacker Haason Reddick amid his trade request, but he would still prefer to stick with the team.

"I don't know him well. I had a couple messages with him, I believe, when he got traded," Rodgers told reporters on Tuesday, per ESPN's Rich Cimini. Obviously, we'd love him to be here, but we don't judge him for trying to do what's best for him."

Rodgers added that he believes Reddick's best move would be to join the team, as he could help the Jets achieve success during the 2024 season.

"I think what's best for him is to be a Jet because this is going to be a fun ride," Rodgers said. "But he's got to make the best decision for him and his family."

When asked if he would speak to Reddick, Rodgers replied, "Yeah, it's possible. Anything is possible."

After being acquired in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles in April, Reddick sat out all of New York's offseason program and has held out for the entirety of training camp so far amid his ongoing contract dispute. He's making a base salary of $14.25 million in the final year of his contract and made it clear that he wants a salary comparable to the highest-paid edge rushers in the league.

Things reached a boiling point on Monday when Reddick requested to be traded for the second time in less than six months. Jets general manager Joe Douglas released a statement declaring that the team would not trade him. The 29-year-old has been fined a mandatory $50,000 for each day of his absence, bringing his total to over $1 million.

With neither side softening their stance, there's a chance that Reddick's holdout could extend into the season. If he chooses to sit out the year, the Jets will retain his rights for the 2025 campaign.

When asked if Reddick's holdout has been a distraction, head coach Robert Saleh said, "It's not. I promise you, it's not."

NFL Rumors: Jets Offered Haason Reddick 'Below Market' Contract Before Eagles Trade

The ongoing contract dispute between the New York Jets and linebacker Haason Reddick doesn't appear to be ending anytime soon, and the two sides have reportedly been far apart for quite some time.

The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported that when the Jets acquired Reddick in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, they made him a "below market" contract offer that he turned down. The team never made a new offer because they were "informed by Reddick's rep that he would play under his current contract."

The Jets have maintained that they were under the belief that Reddick would play the 2024 season under the final year of his deal, which has a base salary of $14.25 million. That belief is reportedly the reason why New York has not extended another long-term contract offer to Reddick since acquiring him from Philadelphia, but Russini reported that this is part of the communication issue that led Reddick to request a trade on Monday.

According to Russini, Reddick's camp was under the impression that the Jets said they would negotiate a new deal for him. Reddick's reps reportedly "trusted this would get done by camp." Russini added that the Jets reached out to Reddick a few weeks ago and said they would be willing to rework his current deal if he showed up to training camp, but he opted to continue his holdout.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported that sources said before training camp that Reddick was "serious about his money and his respect, and he felt like he wasn't getting either from the Jets." Garafolo added that the impasse between the two sides "could last into the regular season."

Jets general manager Joe Douglas released a statement on Monday saying the team has no intentions of trading Reddick. The two-time Pro Bowler was expected to be a key part of New York's defense, so it would be in the franchise's best interest to figure out how to resolve the contract dispute.
