Haason Reddick's tenure with the New York Jets has gotten off to a rocky start, to say the least.

The pass rusher, who was traded to the Jets from the Philadelphia Eagles just four months ago, requested a trade from the team amid a holdout over contract disputes.

Whether Reddick will be dealt is to be determined, as the team issued a statement saying it would not trade him, but fans still trolled the brief tenure playing for the Jets.

The Jets traded for Reddick in April, as the 29-year-old was seeking a pay raise when he was still with the Eagles. After an offseason of failed negotiations, Reddick skipped both mandatory minicamp and training camp. Now, it's unclear what comes next.

New York was hoping to get an elite defensive end in Reddick after he was named to back-to-back Pro Bowl teams over the last two seasons. Last year, he had 38 tackles, 11 sacks and a forced fumble. He led the league in forced fumbles in 2022 with five and also recorded 16 sacks.

If the Jets can get Reddick to stick around, he could help them finally become a playoff team after a 13-year drought. If Reddick refuses to play, New York might have to settle with whatever it can get in a trade.

Haason Reddick was already traded once this offseason, and he will be moved again if he gets his reported wish.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported Monday the pass-rusher informed the New York Jets he would like to be traded. New York acquired Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles via trade this offseason, but he is currently holding out from training camp with just one year remaining on his contract.

General manager Joe Douglas responded with a statement saying the Jets have no plans on trading him:

That Reddick wants a new contract isn't a surprise.

Nick Shook of NFL.com reported in March when the Jets acquired him that "Reddick's compensation has been a sticking point for the Eagles dating back to early February, when Philadelphia gave Reddick permission to seek a trade."

The Jets took a chance with the trade given that reality and have thus far been unable to work anything out with the Temple product. The holdout has now turned into a trade request, which raises further questions about his future with the AFC East team.

It's quite a turnaround from when Reddick told reporters during his introductory press conference with the Jets that, "Whatever happens, I'm going to be happy. I'm going to give my all, no matter what. That's just who I am as a person."

ESPN's Rich Cimini reported Wednesday that Reddick surpassed the $1 million mark in fines for his continuing holdout and noted it is believed the 29-year-old is looking for a deal that pays him approximately $25 million a year, which is close to what Danielle Hunter received from the Houston Texans.

Reddick is set to make $14.25 million in base salary in 2024.

Whether it is the Jets or a different team, whichever defense has Reddick rushing the passer in 2024 will benefit from someone coming off back-to-back Pro Bowl seasons. He posted 11 sacks last season, which was his fourth consecutive campaign with double-digit sack totals.

While New York did not come to terms with Reddick on a new deal before executing the trade, it still made the move as it attempts to make a Super Bowl run with a healthy Aaron Rodgers under center.

It was a win-now type of trade, but there are plenty of questions remaining with the season approaching.

Jets' Haason Reddick Surpasses $1M in Fines amid Camp Holdout over Contract Dispute

New York Jets edge rusher Haason Reddick has accrued more than $1 million in fines amid his holdout for a new contract, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

Reddick has missed both minicamp and 15 days of training camp, resulting in $850,000 in mandatory fines and $300,000 in discretionary fines, per Cimini.

The Jets offered Reddick an extension back when they traded for the former Philadelphia Eagles Pro Bowler in April, but Reddick's camp rejected the offer, Cimini previously reported.

Reddick is currently set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2025 after playing this fall on a $14.25 million base salary.

That amount, which is not guaranteed, ranks Reddick 20th among all edge rusher salaries in terms of average annual value, per Over the Cap.

SNY's Connor Hughes reported on July 23 that Reddick was seeking a deal worth between $25 million and $28 million per year.

According to Hughes, the Jets "were open to a contract extension making Reddick one of the league's highest-paid edge rushers... but there was an understanding between the Jets and Reddick that in order to receive that, Reddick needed to show up and perform on the field" in regular season games.

Until then, the Jets could consider adjusting Reddick's contract to include more guarantees and additional incentives, per Hughes.

At the time, Hughes reported that the Jets were hoping that Reddick would report to camp soon so that those negotiations could be underway, and that sources said there was "zero chance" the holdout would lead to Reddick's trade or release.

Two weeks later, however, Reddick has yet to attend camp, raising the question of whether or not the Jets have begun considering alternative options. His continued absence could create room for second-year edge Will McDonald, who has received practice extra snaps that the New York Post's Ethan Sears reported would have belonged to Reddick, on the defensive unit.

Reddick represents the first contract holdout from Jets training camp since cornerback Darrelle Revis sought a new deal in 2010, according to Cimini.

Reddick is receiving $50,000 fines for each day of training camp missed, but the financial penalties he has taken for his holdout go beyond the fines. Ryan Dunleavy reported for the New York Post that edge rusher also forfeited a $250,000 workout bonus by skipping voluntary workouts this spring.

NFL Rumors: Haason Reddick's Jets Contract Talks Trending 'Positively' amid Holdout

Haason Reddick has yet to participate in training camp with the New York Jets amid a contract holdout, but there are signs that a breakthrough could happen soon.

Per NFL insider Josina Anderson, talks between Reddick's camp and the Jets have "positively" progressed this week and there's "hope" he could be at camp in the near-future.

The Jets acquired Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2026 third-round pick that could become a second-rounder.

Reddick, who is entering the final season of his contract, had already sat out organized team activities and mandatory minicamp while seeking a new deal. His base salary for 2024 is $14.3 million.

Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reported earlier this week that the Jets are open to giving Reddick an extension that would make him one of the highest-paid edge rushers, but the two sides had an understanding he would be required to "show up and perform on the field" in regular-season games before they would take that step.

The Eagles originally signed Reddick to a three-year, $45 million contract as a free agent in March 2022. His $15 million average annual salary is tied with Uchenna Nwosu of the Seattle Seahawks for 19th among all edge defenders.

According to Hughes, Reddick is seeking a deal in the range of $25-28 million per season. That would put him between Myles Garrett ($25 million) and T.J. Watt ($28.002 million) in the edge-rusher hierarchy.

Based on his production over the past two seasons, Reddick has outplayed his contract. The 29-year-old has made the Pro Bowl in each of the past two years and finished fourth in Defensive Player of the Year voting in 2022 after recording a career-high 16 sacks.

The only players with more sacks than Reddick's 27 over the past two seasons are Garrett (30), Nick Bosa (29) and Micah Parsons (27.5).

Haason Reddick Placed on Reserve List by Jets amid Camp Holdout, Contract Rumors

As veteran edge rusher Haason Reddick's holdout from training camp reached a third straight day, the New York Jets had no choice but to make an official move on Thursday.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Jets placed Reddick on the reserve/did not report list.

The Jets acquired Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles in a move that was expected to bolster the team's already stout defense. However, things have not gone as planned, as Reddick has skipped the entirety of New York's offseason program, including the team's mandatory minicamp in June.

Part of the Eagles' willingness to trade Reddick stemmed from his desire to seek a new contract. The 29-year-old is entering the final year of his deal and will be making $14.25 million this year after forfeiting a $250,000 workout bonus for skipping the offseason program.

SNY's Connor Hughes reported this week that the Jets offered Reddick a contract extension prior to acquiring him, but he declined it in hopes of earning a more lucrative offer. New York reportedly told him that it would be willing to negotiate at a later date based on how he performed during the season, and he agreed to participate in the offseason program.

However, Hughes added that Reddick instead "maintained minimal contact with the organization" as he chose not to show up at all. The Jets reportedly won't negotiate a new deal until he attends training camp. Reddick will be subjected to fines of $50,000 for each day of his holdout.

Reddick's absence will allow for New York's younger players to see more action during training camp, but the team is obviously hoping that this doesn't persist for too long. With 50.5 sacks over the last four years, Reddick is one of the best edge rushers in the league and will be a major addition to the talented Jets defense when the two sides reach a resolution.

Jets Rumors: Haason Reddick Declined Contract Offer Before Trade; Eyes $25M-$28M AAV

Star edge-rusher Haason Reddick is holding out as he seeks a new contract this offseason, though the New York Jets reportedly offered him one after acquiring him in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to SNY's Connor Hughes, the Jets "offered Reddick a contract extension" though "the figures, while a raise, were not what Reddick was looking for, so he declined the offer."

Per that report, Reddick is seeking between $25-28 million per season, but the Jets didn't want to redo his current deal (he's owed $14.2 million this season) to reach that figure. They preferred seeing how he performed this year before considering an in-season extension with that sort of heft, according to Hughes.

Reddick, 29, is a pretty nice bargain at his current price point. He's registered 11 or more sacks in four straight seasons, posting 11 sacks, 38 tackles (13 for loss), 23 quarterback hits and a pass defensed in 2023.

He's one of the better pure pass-rushers in football off the edge, and the result has been a Pro Bowl berth in each of the past two seasons.

What he doesn't offer, however, is the all-around impact or rushing upside of the elite edge-rushers in the game like Nick Bosa, T.J. Watt, Myles Garrett or Maxx Crosby.

Bosa is three years younger, is a two-time Defensive Player of the Year and has two seasons with 15 or more sacks. Reddick has one such season and has never been the Defensive Player of the Year.

Watt is the same age, has the same number of years in the NFL and has 96.5 career sacks to 58 for Reddick. He's also a former DPoY.

Garrett is a year younger (though the same amount of seasons), is a former DPoY and has 88.5 career sacks. He's also far more impactful against the run.

And Crosby has just six fewer sacks in two fewer seasons.

Given Reddick's age and some of these comparisons, it's easy to see why the Eagles—and now potentially the Jets—were hesitant to give him a salary that would put him in line with some of the top rushers in the game.

Reddick, however, can make the fair point that the market has continued to increase for such players, as evidenced by Montez Sweat's four-year, $98 million deal with the Chicago Bears. Sweat is a good player, no doubt, but he has just one season hitting double-digit sacks in his career.

Granted, sacks aren't the only metric teams look at, but Reddick can make a strong case that he's been a more disruptive pass-rusher the past four seasons than Sweat or Rashan Gary (four-year, $96 million extension with the Green Bay Packers; 31.5 career sacks in five seasons).

And Reddick isn't purely a pass-rushing specialist, even if that's where he's made his biggest mark—he played in 74 percent of Philadelphia's defensive snaps in both 2022 and 2023, higher than both Sweat and Gary in those seasons.

Gary and Sweat, however, are younger players. Chicago and Green Bay had less concerns about how the back end of those deals might play out due to age.

All of this to say that Reddick's holdout—and New York's stance on his contract—is a complicated situation. Reddick is arguably underpaid at the moment, but arguably wants to be overpaid in his next deal, if the $25 million-28 million figure is accurate. There's some precedent for him seeking that figure, given recent deals handed out, but the Jets clearly have their own price point in mind.

Jets Rumors: Haason Reddick Holding Out of Training Camp for New Contract After Trade

After being traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the New York Jets this offseason, star edge rusher Haason Reddick has made it clear that he's not satisfied with his contract.

Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Reddick is set to hold out of training camp while he awaits an adjustment to his contract. He skipped the Jets' entire offseason program so far, including mandatory minicamp in June.

Reddick is in the final year of his contract and will make $14.5 million this season. ESPN's Rich Cimini noted that his salary ranks 19th among edge rushers, which isn't reflective of his production as he has a total of 50.5 sacks over the last four seasons. Despite his production, the Eagles were willing to ship him away because they knew he was unhappy with his current deal.

In the deal with the Eagles, the Jets gave up a conditional 2026 third-round pick to the Eagles that becomes a second-round pick if Reddick plays 67.5 percent of the snaps and records at least 10 sacks this season. New York also lost its best sack leader Bryce Huff, who signed with Philadelphia and made Reddick expendable.

Reddick is facing a mandatory fine of $50,000 per day during his holdout. Cimini added that the Jets were "surprised" by the 29-year-old's stance because they "were under the impression" that he "was content to play out the final year of his contract and hit free agency."

The 2024 season is crucial for the Jets, as they are hoping the return of star quarterback Aaron Rodgers will help them end their 13-year playoff drought. Reddick was expected to play a major role for New York in its quest to return to the postseason, but it's clear that the two sides have a lot to figure out before he takes the field for Gang Green.
