Jordan Davis' $12.9M Contract Option Exercised by Eagles for 2026 NFL Season

Adam Wells

Cowboys Eagles Football

Having established himself as a key member of the Philadelphia Eagles' defensive line, Jordan Davis had his $12.9 million fifth-year option on his rookie contract picked up on Wednesday.

Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz first reported the news.

Davis was Philadelphia's top pick in the 2022 draft (No. 13 overall). He was part of a class that included Cam Jurgens and Nakobe Dean.

The Georgia standout elevated himself into the top half of the first round after posting the best athletic testing score of any defensive tackle at the NFL scouting combine dating back to 1987.

Ad Placeholder

Davis spent most of his rookie year rotating in and out of the lineup when the Eagles had the deepest defensive line in the league. He recorded two quarterback hits in three playoff games during their run to Super Bowl 57.

Going into the 2023 season, Davis moved into the starting lineup. The 25-year-old has started 39 consecutive games over the past two seasons, including all five playoff games.

The 2023 campaign was a breakout for Davis. He recorded five quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks and two tackles for loss playing on the interior.

Ad Placeholder

Davis had a career-high three tackles for loss during the 2024 season. He added two quarterback hits during the postseason to help the Eagles defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 to win their second Super Bowl title.

Even though Davis doesn't post eye-popping stats in the box score, his size and ability to absorb blocks to free up other players in the front seven has been widely credited with helping the Eagles turnaround on defense last season.

When you combine that with a $12.9 million salary that would rank as the 27th-highest among all defensive tackles currently in the NFL, it's easy to see why the Eagles want to keep Davis for at least the next two seasons.

Kyle McCord to Eagles Praised by NFL Fans After Draft Pick as Depth Behind Jalen Hurts

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: OCT 24 Syracuse at Pitt

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord with a sixth-round pick (No. 181 overall) in the 2025 NFL draft on Saturday.

McCord ranked as the eighth quarterback and No. 124 overall player on the B/R NFL Scouting Department big board. He was given a fourth-round grade.

McCord played three years at Ohio State (starting in 2023) before transferring to Syracuse. He starred for the Orange, amassing 4,779 passing yards (leading all of Division I FBS) and 34 touchdowns (12 interceptions) while leading his team to a 10-3 record and a No. 20 spot in the Associated Press poll.

Ad Placeholder

Now he's landed with the Eagles, giving Philadelphia solid depth behind reigning Super Bowl MVP quarterback Jalen Hurts.

The Eagles traded backup Kenny Pickett to the Cleveland Browns in March for Dorian Thompson-Robinson. QB3 Tanner McKee is still aboard.

And now McCord is as well. On paper, this is a great value pickup for the Eagles, and it helps fill a need to add more help behind Hurts. McCord could certainly wind up being QB2 before long.

Fans and analysts reacted to the selection.

Ad Placeholder

This also marks a return close to home for McCord, who was clearly elated with the pick.

He grew up close by in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, and went to school in Philadelphia at St. Joseph's Preparatory School, where he played with Marvin Harrison Jr.

And now he's back in town with a chance to stick around for a while as a potential QB2 down the line.

Eagles Post Thanos Infinity Stones Meme After Drafting Georgia LB Smael Mondon

Andrew Peters
Apr 26, 2025
Tennessee v Georgia

The Philadelphia Eagles' tradition of drafting players from Georgia continued on Saturday.

With the 25th pick in the fifth round (No. 161 overall), the defending champs picked up Georgia linebacker Smael Mondon Jr., adding another Bulldog to the mix in Philadelphia.

The Eagles had the perfect meme for the occasion after the pick.

Mondon marks the eighth player from Georgia on the Eagles' roster. The full list of Bulldogs in Philadelphia includes:

  • DT Jalen Carter
  • DB Lewis Cine
  • DT Jordan Davis
  • LB Nakobe Dean
  • LB Azeez Ojulari
  • CB Kelee Ringo
  • LB Nolan Smith Jr.
  • LB Smael Mondon Jr.

What's more, seven of those players are from Georgia's 2021 national championship team. Considering defensive dominance is a staple of Kirby Smart's Bulldogs, it's not much of a surprise that a defensive-minded team like the Eagles has wound up with so many of them.

Ad Placeholder

The newest addition, Mondon, brings more defensive excellence to Philadelphia. In his final campaign with the Bulldogs, he racked up 57 tackles, four tackles for loss and three sacks. He likely could have been an earlier selection had it not been for a foot injury that cost him four games in 2024.

Now, the question for the Eagles and Mondon is whether he can help them sustain their dominant defense in 2025. Philadelphia had arguably the best defensive unit in the league a year ago, allowing the fewest yards per game (278.4) and the second-fewest points per game (17.8)

Ad Placeholder

In their 40-22 rout of the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, the Eagles sacked Patrick Mahomes six times and forced two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.

Considering Mondon comes from a school that prides itself on defense, he should have no problem fitting in with Philadelphia.

Mac McWilliams NFL Draft 2025 Scouting Report for Philadelphia Eagles CB

Matt Holder
Apr 22, 2025
Colorado UCF Football

The Philadelphia Eagles selected UCF CB Mac McWilliams with the No. 145 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.

Mac McWilliams is a feisty and instinctual cornerback who plays with intensity and toughness despite his smaller stature. At 5'10" and 181 pounds, he makes up for his lack of ideal size with quick footwork, aggressiveness and smart play in coverage.

Mac McWilliams Highlights

McWilliams thrives in zone coverage, where his instincts, awareness and ball skills shine. He does a good job of splitting threats and maintaining leverage, staying calm with the ball in the air and tracking it well. His quick footwork and fluid transitions allow him to drive on the ball effectively, though he can be inconsistent when faced with speed or complex route combinations.

Ad Placeholder

In man coverage, McWilliams competes hard and shows the versatility to line up in the slot. However, his lack of length and occasional hesitation when reading plays can lead to separation against more polished receivers.

McWilliams brings a competitive edge to run defense, triggering quickly and showing a willingness to take on blockers and make tackles. He uses his quickness to slip past blocks and get to the ball-carrier, often shooting at their legs to bring them down.

Ad Placeholder

His smaller frame and tackling technique can lead to inconsistency, as he occasionally fails to wrap up properly or bounces off bigger runners. Despite those limitations, McWilliams consistently shows effort and physicality in the run game, providing valuable support from the secondary.

McWilliams projects as a late-round pick or undrafted free agent whose versatility and athleticism give him the potential to contribute as a backup cornerback and special teams player in the NFL. His quickness, intelligence and competitiveness will make him a valuable addition to a defensive backfield in need of depth.

While his size and inconsistent tackling may limit his upside, McWilliams' versatility and effort provide a solid foundation for carving out a role in the NFL.

Ty Robinson NFL Draft 2025 Scouting Report for Philadelphia Eagles DL

Matt Holder
Apr 22, 2025
NYOTK

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Penn State EDGE Abdul Carter with the No. 111 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.

Ty Robinson is a draftable player based on the impressive movement skills he showed on tape and the athletic testing numbers he put up at the combine. That gives him the potential to contribute as an interior pass-rusher down the line. He's already effective on line games and has a decent club-by move to serve as his foundation.

Ty Robinson Highlights

However, Robinson struggles in the run game, has short arms and needs to improve his use of hands as a pass-rusher. While the latter can be developed, he's a sixth-year senior who still has this technique issue and might be limited given his lack of arm length.

Ad Placeholder

Overall, the Nebraska product is worth taking a chance on in the later rounds of the draft, especially for an odd-front team that's looking for a 4i-technique.

BROAD: 9'11"

POSITIVES

— Quick and a good overall athlete for an interior defender. Earned a 9.89 RAS at the NFL combine.

— Solid get-off and has the agility to be effective when slanting.

— Flashed a solid club-by move as a pass-rusher.

Ad Placeholder

— Can be effective on line games as a pass-rusher. Movement skills allow him to take efficient paths at the looper, and he's physical as the pick player to free up teammates.

— Gets his hands up to bat passes at the line of scrimmage when he doesn't hit home as a pass-rusher.

NEGATIVES

— Plays high. Offensive linemen with good leverage will be able to push him around in the running game. Struggles to stay in his gap against double-teams or combo blocks.

— Late to recognize/see pullers against the run.

Ad Placeholder

— Short arms and is late to get his hands up, allowing offensive linemen to make the first significant contact in both phases of the game. Also leads to him getting stuck on blocks.

— Doesn't work the offensive lineman's hands well as a pass-rusher.

— Needs to rush with a better plan and develop a countermove.

Antwaun Powell-Ryland NFL Draft 2025 Scouting Report for Philadelphia Eagles Edge

Matt Holder
Apr 22, 2025
Old Dominion Virginia Tech Football

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Virginia Tech EDGE Antwaun Powell-Ryland with the No. 209 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.

Antwuan Powell-Ryland has the potential to become a third-down rusher in the NFL. He has nuance as a pass-rusher, setting up his pass-rush moves well during the stem phase of the rush and using some deception with his hands to get offensive tackles off-balance.

Powell-Ryland also has a handful of moves he can win with. He's shown good cross-chop, rip and double-hand swipe moves with solid bend to win around the edge. Additionally, he has a good pass-rush motor to get coverage and clean up sacks.

Antwaun Powell-Ryland Highlights

However, the Virginia Tech product's poor arm length could be detrimental in the NFL. Offensive tackles will be able to make the first significant contact consistently, which could prevent him from using the moves mentioned above. While he is good at working offensive linemen's hands, long-limbed NFL tackles will likely give him a lot of trouble.

Overall, Powell-Ryland's sack production and pass-rush skills are worth taking a flier on in the later rounds of the draft, but his lack of length and ability to contribute against the run could take him off some teams' boards.

POSTIVES

Ad Placeholder

— Excellent production as a pass-rusher with 25.5 sacks over the last two seasons, including 16 in 2024.

— Solid get-off that he pairs well with either a rip or cross-chop move to help win around the edge.

— Sets up his pass-rush moves well by getting to square on the offensive lineman.

— Impressive use of hands as a pass-rusher. Works the offensive tackle's hands well and plays the game within the game by flashing his hands and taking them away to get the tackle off-balance.

— Decent bend at the top of the rush.

— High-motor rusher to get coverage sacks.

Ad Placeholder

NEGATIVES

— Has very short arms, which allows offensive tackles to get into his body when rushing the passer.

— Will get washed inside when working an inside move and tackles get their hands on him. Lacks the strength to fight back and continue working up the field.

— Below-average at turning speed to power or winning with power as a pass-rusher.

— Not a factor as a run defender. Struggles setting the edge and will have a hard time anchoring against offensive tackles and good blocking tight ends in the NFL.

Eagles' Jalen Hurts Not Interested in Being 'Face' of NFL After Super Bowl 59 Win

Doric Sam
Apr 22, 2025
APTOPIX Super Bowl Eagles Parade Football

Despite having his star power increase even further after winning Super Bowl LIX, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts isn't interested in the spotlight.

Hurts spoke to Clover Hope of Men's Health and revealed that he doesn't plan on assuming the mantle of the face of the league.

"When I ask Hurts if he’s interested in being the face of the NFL, he says, 'Hmm.' Then a definitive 'No,'" Hope stated.

Hurts was named Super Bowl MVP after leading the Eagles to a dominant 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, who had been hoping to achieve the first three-peat in modern NFL history. Hurts threw for 221 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while adding 72 rushing yards and another score.

While his humble attitude is to be admired, Hurts will be under more of a microscope going forward. The 26-year-old's success will only bring more attention as he tries to sustain it.

Hurts will be motivated to chase another Super Bowl title as the Eagles try to defend their crown during the 2025 campaign.

Eagles' Jalen Hurts Marries Longtime Girlfriend Bry Burrows After Super Bowl Win

Jalen Hurts keeps stacking up wins in 2025, following up his Super Bowl victory with the Philadelphia Eagles by getting married.

In an interview with Cori Ritchey of Men's Health, Hurts revealed that he and longtime girlfriend, Bry Burrows, got married.

"You can call her my wife," Hurts told Ritchey about Burrows.

Ritchey wrote that Hurts and Burrows are keeping details of their nuptials under wraps, only noting they tied the knot at some point this spring.

Hurts told Danyel Smith of ESSENCE in April 2023 that dated on and off when they were both students at the University of Alabama. Their relationship became public knowledge during the 2022 NFC Championship between the Eagles and San Francisco 49ers.

"I knew a long time ago," Hurts said about Burrows during his conversation with Smith. "I mean, to this point in my life, that’s an irreplaceable feeling. I think that’s what allowed us to get to where we are now."

Hurts helped the Eagles to a 14-3 record during the 2024 season. He was named MVP of Super Bowl 59 after throwing for 221 yards, running for 72 yards and accounting for three touchdowns in Philadelphia's 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Hollin Pierce NFL Draft 2025 Scouting Report for Philadelphia Eagles OT

Nicholas Nathanson
Apr 21, 2025
Ohio State Rutgers Football

The Philadelphia Eagles added Rutgers OT Hollin Pierce as an undrafted free agent after the 2025 NFL draft.

Hollin Pierce is a four-year starter with 13 starts at left tackle inside Rutgers' 57-43 run-pass split, multiple run game. Pierce has a massive frame, wingspan and length with a thick build and extra weight around his midsection. He has adequate athletic ability and solid play strength.

Pierce is a functional run-blocker with enough initial burst to reach his aiming points, cover up and blot out targets on overtakes and scraping 'backers on his climbs to create lanes off his backside. He will struggle to regain leverage and control against shifty defenders, leaving him easily slipped and edged. Pierce also shows marginal redirect skills on the move, resulting in sporadic ability to intersect smaller targets.

Hollin Pierce Highlights

In pass protection, Pierce shows smooth initial footwork out of his stance with ready hands and timely strikes to weaponize his length and disrupt the timing of a rusher's move. Once his feet stop or rushers execute stutters and hesitations prior to attacking outside, Pierce uses his length to widen corners and widen the arc against high-side rushers. However, he shows marginal range to expand, quickly swinging open with late feet to short the corner.

Ad Placeholder

Overall, Pierce is a chore to work around in pass protection when he has help to box rushers into his grasp, and he can trap and cover up targets in the run game to create seals and alleys. However, he will struggle to win leverage, sustain and recover with his head up. With his size, crafty approach and excellent intangibles, he should be able to stick as a long-term, quality backup tackle who can get a team out of a pinch.

— Covers up and blots out targets flowing over the top to create cutbacks off his backside.

— Highly regarded football character and work ethic.

Kyle McCord NFL Draft 2025 Scouting Report for Philadelphia Eagles QB

Apr 21, 2025
NFL Combine Football

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Syracuse QB Kyle McCord with the No. 181 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.

Kyle McCord is a pocket quarterback who thrives on being well-timed and accurate with his passes.

McCord is a smart and intelligent prospect with a strong football IQ. He does a good job locating and attacking the mismatches or one-on-one matchups in his favor. He operates best in the quick passing game with good processing speeds and a quick release.

McCord does a good job identifying post-snap coverages and pre-snap blitzers. That's a big reason why he was so effective at defeating blitz packages all season. He will stand in the pocket and drop his throwing motion/arm angle to get the ball past defenders who are bearing down.

Kyle McCord Highlights

McCord throws accurately at every level of the field and uses his touch to layer passes over defenders when necessary. His passes are very catchable. He threw the ball with great timing and placement this season, creating opportunities for his receivers to make plays.

McCord has above-average arm strength to push the ball down the field. He has enough velocity to drive throws between the hashes in the short and intermediate levels of the field.

Ad Placeholder

McCord flashes the ability to make accurate passes on the move when flushed out of the pocket. He keeps his eyes down the field to find someone breaking free from the coverage and working into the defensive void. He has good pocket presence and navigating skills. He will step up into the pocket and display the ability to evade free-running defenders.

However, McCord must improve his eye manipulation. He tends to stare down his preferred read—sometimes his initial one—post-snap. That will bring defenders into throwing lanes, making the attempt more difficult than it needs to be. Subtle eye movements and looking away will move defenders from the spot instead of bringing them to it.

Ad Placeholder

McCord is good against the blitz, but pressure from three- and four-defender fronts gave him trouble this season. When pressured, his mechanics and decision-making go awry, and he loses composure. He begins to panic, and his turnover-worthy play rates increase.

McCord is a below-average athlete and should not be asked to create much on his own accord outside of his pocket. He will be run down by the backside-pursuing defenders.

Overall, McCord is an accurate pocket passer who made winning plays in 2024. He is best suited in a game-manager role for a West Coast offense. His ability to get the ball out quickly and operate the quick game with efficiency should help him to climb into a QB2 role behind an established veteran.

MEASUREMENT AND WORKOUT RESULTS

HEIGHT: 6'3"

WEIGHT: 218

HAND: 9 ½"

ARM: 31"

WINGSPAN: 74 ½"

POSITIVES

— Mechanically sound thrower. Has a quick and snappy release.

Ad Placeholder

— Thrives playing from the pocket on time and in rhythm.

— Accurate pocket passer who delivers passes with good ball placement.

— Knows how to toggle between throwing with velocity and touch down the field.

NEGATIVES

— Average mobility and athleticism; not quick-footed to evade consistent defensive pressure.

— Mechanics and decision-making decrease when under pressure.

— Tends to lock onto his initial reads; needs to improve eye manipulation.

— Must reduce turnover-worthy plays.
