Myles Garrett: Eagles Would Be 'Hell of a Destination' After Browns Trade Request

Feb 6, 2025

With Myles Garrett's future with the Cleveland Browns fully up in the air, it seems like the star pass-rusher wouldn't mind playing for one of the two teams set to play in Sunday's Super Bowl.

"It would be a hell of a destination," he said of the Philadelphia Eagles during a discussion with Zach Gelb:

The conversation about Garrett switching teams came after he requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns in a statement released Monday:

While the trade request made it clear Garrett wanted out of Cleveland, the team didn't seem to be in a hurry to honor it.

A Browns spokesperson said, "we aren't entertaining trade offers for Myles" on Monday, per Tom Withers of the Associated Press.

Last month, general manager Andrew Berry told reporters the team wouldn't even trade the star pass-rusher for two first-round picks.

"We always have a really good and direct two-way communication with our players," Berry said. "We feel really good about Myles obviously as a big piece of our future. We're looking forward to him being on the field. Like I said in my (early January) press conference, we envision him going from Cleveland to Canton when his career is over."

The "Cleveland to Canton" line was notable, as Garrett's statement said, in part, "the goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl."

Since Cleveland selected him with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2017 NFL draft, it has won one playoff game in eight years. It is also coming off a 3-14 season and doesn't look anywhere close to competing for that Lombardi Trophy.

Going to the Eagles would put Garrett much closer to his goal.

On Sunday, Philadelphia will take the field for its third Super Bowl since Garrett entered the league. It won the Lombardi Trophy during his rookie season and will have the chance to add another to its collection if it can figure out Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

The Eagles are arguably the most talented team in the league, but they were a solid-but-unspectacular 15th in the NFL in sacks this season. Adding someone like Garrett, who posted 14 sacks this season and has reached double-digit totals in each of the last seven years, would make them even more dangerous.

It is certainly a troubling thought for the rest of the NFC, although the Browns don't seem eager to move him.

Eagles Unveil Super Bowl 59 Jerseys in Video, Photos Before Matchup vs. Chiefs

The Philadelphia Eagles will be rocking their green uniforms in their Super Bowl LIX matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs and unveiled them on Tuesday.

The main addition, of course, is the new patch near the collar of the jerseys commemorating their Super Bowl appearance.

The Chiefs, meanwhile, will be wearing their white uniforms:

The contest will be the second time in the past three seasons that the Chiefs and Eagles are facing off in the Super Bowl. Two years ago, the Chiefs won a classic matchup, 38-35, as a controversial pass interference call late in the contest allowed Kansas City to kick the game-winning field goal with no time remaining on the clock.

The game was a back-and-forth affair, highlighted by the fantastic play of both quarterbacks. Patrick Mahomes finished the game with 182 passing yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for 44 yards, while Jalen Hurts threw for 304 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 70 yards and three scores.

But Hurts also one of the game's most impactful plays, a fumble in the second quarter that was scooped up by Nick Bolton and returned for a touchdown. It was the only turnover in the contest.

The two teams also played last season, a 21-17 win for the Birds.

The Eagles have had enormous changes on both sides of the ball since that last matchup, however, with a pair of new coordinators (Kellen Moore on offense, Vic Fangio on defense) and a slew of impactful offseason additions to the roster (Saquon Barkley, Mekhi Becton, Zack Baun, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, among others).

It's Philly's league-best defense against the best player in the sport, Mahomes. Barkley and Philly's vaunted run game against Chris Jones and the many disguised blitzes of defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. Andy Reid against his former team.

It should be fun.

Jalen Hurts: Eagles' Super Bowl 57 Loss to Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs 'Lit a Fire in Me'

Preparing to start his second Super Bowl in three seasons, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts still thinks about the 38-35 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 57.

Speaking to reporters during Super Bowl Opening Night on Monday, Hurts said that defeat "lit a fire in me" that has made him a better player:

"I've learned so much. It's the same as any other game and, you know, I think the moments are the moments. But ultimately, you know, every game has its lessons -- good, bad or indifferent. So, just being able to become wiser, grow and mature and take all these lessons in for the next season and the next games. It's had a great driving force. It lit a flame, lit a fire in me, and to have this opportunity again is exactly what you work for."

Hurts played one of the best games of his career in that Super Bowl. He finished 27-of-38 for 304 yards with one touchdown through the air and 70 rushing yards with three touchdowns on 15 carries as a runner.

It was a historic individual performance, as Hurts joined Steve Young and Joe Montana as the only players in Super Bowl history to account for at least 370 yards and four touchdowns.

The Eagles' 35 points were the most ever for a team that lost the Super Bowl, surpassing the previous record of 33 by the New England Patriots in their loss to Philadelphia in Super Bowl 52.

Philadelphia joined a long list of teams that has also blown a double-digit lead to Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs. The Eagles took a 24-14 lead into halftime before the Chiefs stormed back in the second half.

The game had a somewhat controversial ending when Eagles cornerback James Bradberry was flagged for defensive holding on JuJu Smith-Schuster on a third-and-8 play that gave Kansas City an automatic first down with 1:54 remaining deep in Philadelphia territory.

Harrison Butker's 27-yard field goal with 11 seconds remaining gave the Chiefs a three-point lead. Hurts had one last desperate pass attempt as time expired that landed incomplete.

After a down 2023, the Eagles bounced back in a big way this season. They won 14 games in the regular season and set a record for most points in a conference title game with their 55-23 victory over the Washington Commanders.

Hurts will have plenty of help around him from a loaded Eagles roster as he looks to win his first Super Bowl, but this game could easily come down to how well he's able to throw the ball against a Kansas City defense that has allowed a total of 414 passing yards in two playoff games.

Win or lose in Super Bowl 59 next Sunday, Saquon Barkley has something to celebrate this offseason.

The Philadelphia Eagles star running back and his girlfriend, Anna Congdon, are engaged, he told People's Natasha Dye.

"I can't be the athlete I am and have the success I have so in my career without the help of her," Barkley said. "She's been super helpful and always has my back, not only in football but throughout life there's a lot that goes on. But as we continue to grow and mature and go through life together, we continue getting closer and continue to get even better.

"And it's a beautiful thing because we have two amazing children that we were raised it and we just sit back and laugh sometimes when they're over there playing and just smile and think about where everything started."

According to Dye, Barkley and Congdon met at Penn State and have been together since 2017. They had their first child, Jada, in 2018 and their second, Saquon Jr., in 2022.

It's been quite the year for Barkley. Along with his engagement, he led the league in rushing yards with 2,005, coming just 100 yards short of the single-season rushing record. In his first year in Philadelphia, the Eagles finished the regular season 14-3 and beat the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams and Washington Commanders on their way to the Super Bowl.

Now, the Philadelphia will face the Kansas City Chiefs as Barkley looks to put an exclamation on an outstanding year.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts gave his teammates custom Beats headphones ahead of Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.

The headphones feature the word "NOLA" alongside a fleur-de-lis in Mardi Gras colors, according to photos shared by NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Hurts has been part of endorsement deals with Beats since his days as a Heisman Trophy finalist for Alabama.

The Eagles are preparing to face the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chief at Caesars Superdome next Sunday.

This matchup ended in heartbreak for Hurts and his team two years ago, when a field goal kick by Harrison Butker as time expired sealed a 38-35 win over the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.

After missing out on a rematch thanks to a Wild Card blowout by Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last winter, the Eagles are finally getting a shot at redemption against Patrick Mahomes and the defending champs.

Super Bowl LIX kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, Feb. 9.

Eagles' A.J. Brown Fined by NFL for Incident; Commanders' Lattimore Avoids Punishment

The NFL fined Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown $11,255 as a result of his brief altercation with Washington Commanders cornerback Marshon Lattimore in the NFC championship game.

Lattimore escaped any additional punishment.

The incident occurred in the second quarter as Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was punching the ball in at the goal line to put Philly up 20-12. Brown went to block Lattimore and things escalated from there. At one point Brown grabbed Lattimore's facemask before his helmet fell to the turf.

The referees flagged Lattimore for unnecessary roughness while declining to throw a flag on Brown.

The three-time Pro Bowl wideout addressed the sequence days later on Twitch with streamer Janky Rondo. He said that Lattimore "engaged me first," so he felt the need to respond in kind.

Ultimately, this didn't prove to be a big deal.

Lattimore's unnecessary roughness penalty didn't hurt Washington. The Commanders stopped Hurts short of the end zone on Philadelphia's two-point attempt.

The play was also a footnote in a 55-23 win for the Eagles, who pulled away in the second half and scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter.

Brown's fine, meanwhile, is a drop in the bucket when he pockets a $1.1 million base salary along with $10.7 million in bonus money for 2024.

Eagles' Lane Johnson 'Definitely Not Retiring' After Super Bowl 59 'Win or Lose'

Even though the Super Bowl isn't for another week, the Philadelphia Eagles have already secured a big win with Lane Johnson vowing to return next season.

Johnson told reporters on Saturday he's "definitely not retiring" after the Super Bowl whether they "win or lose" against the Kansas City Chiefs.

There hasn't really been any chatter about Johnson hanging up his cleats after this season. He said during the preseason he physically feels like he could play until he's 40, but a more realistic timeframe is two to three more years.

Johnson will turn 35 on May 8 and will wrap up his 12th NFL season in Super Bowl 59, but there's been no noticeable decline in his performance. The Oklahoma alum was named to his fifth career and fourth consecutive All-Pro team this season.

Injuries haven't been a big concern for Johnson in the latest stage of his career. Since missing a combined 17 games from 2019 to 2021, he has started 46 out of a possible 51 regular-season games over the past three seasons.

Johnson was the only offensive tackle in the NFL who finished in the top five in run- and pass-block win rate this season, per ESPN.com.

The Eagles extended Johnson's contract in March 2023, adding an additional year and $30 million guaranteed to his existing deal. He is signed through the 2026 season with reasonable cap hits of $17.4 million in 2025 and $22.4 million in 2026.

Philadelphia has built its foundation on offense around a dominant offensive line. One big reason for the success of that unit is continuity. The Eagles have had the same starting right tackle (Johnson), left tackle (Jordan Mailata) and left guard (Landon Dickerson) since 2021.

Knowing they don't have to worry about who will be starting at right tackle for at least another year is a huge relief for general manager Howie Roseman.

Johnson has been a staple in Philadelphia since being selected with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2013 draft. His 158 games played are tied for the 12th-most in franchise history.

NFL Rumors: Eagles 'Bracing' to Lose Kellen Moore to Saints After Super Bowl 59

Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is keeping busy between the NFC Championship Game and Super Bowl, having emerged as the strong frontrunner to become the new head coach of the New Orleans Saints.

Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Eagles are "bracing" to lose Moore to the Saints after the Super Bowl.

It's becoming one of the worst-kept secrets in the NFL that Moore is likely to be hired by the Saints. General manager Mickey Loomis doesn't even seem to be keeping it a secret at this point.

Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Loomis informed other candidates on Friday morning he intends to continue discussions with Moore.

Pelissero also noted Moore has been working on starting to build a coaching staff, though he can't officially be hired until after the Super Bowl.

The Saints are believed to have interviewed seven candidates for their head-coaching vacancy. The group includes their interim head coach Darren Rizzi, Mike McCarthy, Joe Brady, Mike Kafka, Anthony Weaver and Aaron Glenn.

Glenn was hired as head coach of the New York Jets. McCarthy withdrew his name from consideration for the Saints job and intends to sit out the 2025 season, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

If Moore is hired by the Saints, it will mark his first time as a head coach in the NFL. He has had several interviews in recent years, including with the Dallas Cowboys last month before they settled on Brian Schottenheimer.

The 36-year-old Moore has been coaching in the NFL since 2018. He has spent the past two seasons as an offensive coordinator, first with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023 and now with the Eagles.

Taking on the Saints job will be a monumental task for Moore given how rough their salary-cap outlook is from years of restructuring deals and pushing money into the future with the hope of maintaining contender status.

The Eagles' offense ranked seventh in the NFL with 27.2 points per game this season under Moore. They will take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59 on Feb. 9.
