Report: Dolphins' Tyreek Hill's Traffic Citations from September Detainment Dismissed

The traffic citations issued to Miami Dolphins superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill have reportedly been dismissed.

According to Andy Slater of Fox Sports 640 South Florida, tickets issued to Hill for careless driving and a seatbelt violation were thrown out when the Miami-Dade Police officers who wrote the tickets failed to appear at a court hearing:

TMZ Sports confirmed that the citations were dismissed, adding that the decision was handed down Monday.

The tickets related to a Sept. 8 traffic stop on the morning of the Dolphins' regular-season opener. Hill was detained during the stop before being released and playing in Miami's 20-17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Per TMZ, Hill had pleaded not guilty to the citations before they were ultimately thrown out this week.

According to ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques, the traffic stop and detainment occurred right outside the Dolphins' Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, and ESPN's Jeff Darlington added that sources said Hill was placed in handcuffs after getting into a verbal altercation with an officer when he was stopped for speeding.

Hill later said he had "no idea" why he was detained, noting that he wasn't disrespectful and did not use profanity toward the officers, per Louis-Jacques.

Fellow Dolphins players Calais Campbell and Jonnu Smith stopped at the scene in an attempt to de-escalate the situation, but Campbell was detained as well. Campbell told reporters the officers said his detainment was due to "disobeying a direct order."

After bodycam footage of Hill's detainment was released, the Dolphins issued a statement on X in which they condemned the officers for "overly aggressive and violent conduct."

South Florida Police Benevolent Association President Steadman Stahl also released a statement defending the actions of the officers, noting that Hill was "uncooperative" during the stop:

"Before the Dolphins game yesterday, an incident occurred where Tyreek Hill was placed in handcuffs before being released. First, to be clear, at no time was he ever under arrest. He was briefly detained for officer safety, after driving in a manner in which he was putting himself and others in great danger.

"Upon being stopped, Mr. Hill was not immediately cooperative with the officers on scene who, pursuant to policy and for their immediate safety, placed Mr. Hill in handcuffs. Mr. Hill, still uncooperative, refused to sit on the ground and was therefore redirected to the ground. Once the situation was sorted out within a few minutes, Mr. Hill was issued two traffic citations and was free to leave."

Hill bounced back quickly from the detainment, as he was arguably the Dolphins' best player in their season-opening win, finishing with seven receptions for 130 yards and an 80-yard touchdown.

The 2024 season has largely been a struggle for the 30-year-old veteran since then, though, as he has not had 100 or more receiving yards in any other game.

Overall, Hill has just 49 catches for 571 yards and three touchdowns, putting him well behind the pace he set last season when he tied his career high with 119 catches, set a new career high with 1,799 yards and scored a league-best 13 receiving touchdowns.

Hill was negatively impacted by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missing multiple games due to a concussion, plus Hill has been dealing with a wrist injury he first suffered back in August.

Dolphins' Tyreek Hill Jokes About Viral Meme of Tua, Jaylen Waddle, Achane and Jonnu

Nov 25, 2024

After Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa appeared to find some new favorite targets in Sunday's 34-15 win over the New England Patriots, star receiver Tyreek Hill found the humor in the situation.

Hill took to social media to poke fun at a meme depicting Tagovailoa shunning him and fellow receiver Jaylen Waddle in favor of running back De'Von Achane and tight end Jonnu Smith:

Hill happened to be the odd man out in Sunday's dominant win for Miami, recording five catches for 48 yards. Waddle led the team with 144 yards on eight catches with a touchdown, while Smith had a team-high nine catches for 87 yards and a score. Achane, who was limited to 32 rushing yards on 10 carries, made his presence felt in the passing attack with three receptions for 24 yards and two touchdowns.

At this time last year, Hill was on pace to challenge for the NFL single-season receiving yards record. However, he has not been nearly as productive this season, recording 49 catches for 571 yards and three touchdowns. He has not had a 100-yard game since Week 1, and he's been held under 50 yards six times this year compared to just once in all of 2023.

Despite Hill's quiet season, the Dolphins have now won three straight games and rank second in the AFC East with a 5-6 record. Tagovailoa appears to have found his groove, as his four-touchdown performance against the Patriots was his best of the year.

Miami will have a quick turnaround as it tries to keep the momentum going when it faces the Green Bay Packers (8-3) on Thanksgiving Night.

NFL Rumors: Calais Campbell Trade to Ravens Vetoed by Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel didn't want to lose defensive lineman Calais Campbell ahead of the Nov. 5 trade deadline, so he reportedly took matters into his own hands.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that McDaniel vetoed a trade that would have sent Campbell to the Baltimore Ravens. According to Rapoport, the head coach told the six-time Pro Bowler as much during a meeting.

A trade would have made sense at the time.

After all, the Dolphins were just 2-6 and seemingly well on their way to a lost season. Moving a veteran like Campbell could have accelerated a rebuild by clearing money off the books and, according to Rapoport, bringing in a 2026 fifth-round draft pick.

Yet McDaniel didn't want to lose one of the team leaders before the stretch run, and that decision is proving fruitful.

Miami has since won two in a row and is a home victory over the 3-8 New England Patriots away from improving to 5-6 and being more of a factor in the race for an AFC wild-card spot.

Campbell helped fuel the turnaround with a sack in the Nov. 11 victory over the Los Angeles Rams and another in the Nov. 17 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. His presence also helps free up rushing lanes for his teammates because of the additional attention he attracts from opposing offensive lines, and Miami's defense gave up fewer than 20 points in each of the wins.

The Ravens are clearly aware of that type of impact as well, as Campbell helped anchor their defensive line for three seasons from 2020 to 2022. He was a Pro Bowler during that first season with Baltimore and helped lead the AFC North team to two playoff appearances.

He also played for the Arizona Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars and Atlanta Falcons during his career but is still missing that elusive Super Bowl ring.

McDaniel made sure he is still chasing it in Miami, and a continued turnaround could have everyone on the Dolphins dreaming of a deep playoff run.

Tyreek Hill: 'I Do Not Literally Care' About Fantasy Football, Gambling Complaints

Nov 22, 2024

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill isn't interested in hearing from fans complaining about his performance in regards to sports bets and fantasy football.

"It's like I can't even enjoy a night out with my wife and my kids," Hill said, per Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post. "Somebody's always walking up to me and is like, 'I drafted you number one and you've been having the worst fantasy football season of your career.' And it's like, bro, I do not literally care."

The eight-time Pro Bowl receiver certainly made fantasy managers happy in 2023, as he led the NFL with 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdown catches.

Hill explained that he isn't focused on his individual production and cares about Miami's record, though.

"We don't really care about none of that, dawg," Hill said, via Schad. "As long as we're winning. I feel like a lot of people get football mixed up. With stats. And worrying about where a guy's going. Instead of worrying about the win-loss column."

"A lot of people have taken the game that I grew up loving so much and turned it into betting and turned it into fantasy numbers and stuff like that," he added.

Hill has suited up in all 10 games for the Dolphins this season, but his performances throughout the year have fluctuated while starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missed four contests due to a concussion.

He's averaging just 52.3 receiving yards per game in 2024, the lowest mark since his 2016 campaign as a rookie. Hill has also found the end zone a mere three times and will need to improve in order to surpass six scores, the current lowest single-season total of his career.

The 30-year-old has been dealing with a wrist injury that he suffered in training camp, revealing on Nov. 14 that he considered surgery but decided to play through it (via ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques).

Hill previously encouraged managers to start him in fantasy after Tagovailoa returned to practice on Oct. 23, but it appears as though his mindset has changed.

While he may not have fantasy managers in mind, Hill will still attempt to close out the season strong and help the Dolphins improve upon their 4-6 record beginning with an AFC East battle against the New England Patriots on Sunday.

Kickoff is at 1 p.m. ET.

The 1972 Miami Dolphins are the only team in NFL history to go undefeated and win the Super Bowl, and they'll remain the only team to accomplish that feat after this season.

The Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday after a 9-0 start, meaning there will be no perfect seasons in 2024.

Larry Csonka, a member of the legendary 1972 Dolphins team, was more than happy to see Kansas City fall and see his team's record remain untouched for another year.

The Dolphins coasted to a perfect 14-0 record in the regular season before winning in the divisional round and AFC Championship. They took down Washington in Super Bowl 7.

Csonka, who was in his fifth season in the league, won Super Bowl MVP in the matchup.

After their win in 1972, the Dolphins won another championship in 1973, though they weren't able to put together a perfect season that year. The Super Bowl in 1973 was the last time they won the Lombardi Trophy.

A few teams have come close to Miami's historic 1972 season. The 1976 Oakland Raiders went 16-1 with a Super Bowl, the 1984 San Francisco 49ers went 18-1 with a championship and the 1985 Chicago Bears won a championship behind an 18-1 season. More recently, the Tom Brady-led New England Patriots went undefeated in the regular season in 2007 but lost to the New York Giants in the Super Bowl.

While there will be no undefeated season for the Chiefs this year, a 9-1 start is nothing to scoff at and they seem to be well on their way to competing for a third straight Super Bowl, which would give them their own bit of history.

The Bills, who have looked great behind an MVP candidate in Josh Allen, could be the team standing in their way when the playoffs come around.

Dolphins' Tyreek Hill Says Wrist Surgery Was Discussed, Will Play Through Injury

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill confirmed that he has discussed, and opted against, surgery to address his lingering wrist injury.

"I've been talking to a lot of people about this particular injury. At the end of the day I just gotta suck it up, and just deal with the pain," Hill told reporters on Thursday. "It's gonna get worse the more I play, but I gotta get it out for my team. I'm here, I'm locked in, no matter what, no matter how I feel. Even if I've got to cut my wrist off, I'm still out there, because I love the game of football.

"Surgery was brought up, and it was talked about, whenever I talked to a few of the doctors. But it's my call at the end of the day, and my call is to stay out on the field."

ESPN's Lisa Salters reported on Monday that an MRI previously revealed a torn ligament in Hill's wrist and that he has been playing through the injury "all season long."

Hill appeared on the Dolphins injury report with a wrist injury for the first time last Friday, ahead of a Monday night matchup at the Los Angeles Rams. He has yet to miss a game this season.

"He said he's just been quiet about it all season long," Salters said about her conversation with Hill. "So, I said to him, 'Do you not want me to say anything about it? Because you just told me all about it.' He said, 'It's fine. It's something that I have to deal with.'"

Hill then told NFL Network's Taylor Bisciotti after Monday's win over the Rams that he had injured his wrist against the Washington Commanders, and then "re-aggravated it trying to block my tail off during the course of the year."

The wideout did not play against the Commanders in the teams' preseason matchup, but may have been referring to a joint practice with Washington on Aug. 15.

"It happens. It's football. No excuses," Hill told Bisciotti after the game. "There's a lot of guys in the NFL who are hurt, who are injured. It's part of my job description, and I love it."

Hill is having a down season after leading the NFL with 1,799 receiving yards in 2023. He has recorded just 462 receiving yards through nine games, and caught a touchdown pass for the first time since Week 1 during Monday's win over the Rams.

That victory helped the Dolphins improve to 3-6 on the season and retain a chance of making the playoffs. The team remaining in the hunt for the postseason, despite losing six of seven games between Weeks 2 and 9, could be part of the reason Hill sounds reluctant to undergo what could be a season-ending procedure.

Steelers' DeShon Elliott Says Dolphins Were 'Soft as F--k' During 2023 NFL Season

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel paid no mind to comments a former Dolphins player made about his team.

During an appearance on the Punch Line Podcast, Pittsburgh Steelers safety DeShon Elliott said the team he played on last year, Miami, was "soft as f--k."

McDaniel said he's focused on the team he has right now rather than dwelling on the past, per ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques.

"I am supremely only concerned with the 2024 Dolphins, for sure," McDaniel said. "Our team played a tough-fought game the past three weeks and ended up finding a way to win this past week. That's not the easiest thing to do.

"I just worry about this year's team. He said it on a podcast? Cool podcast."

On the podcast, hosted by Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humprey, Elliott specifically called out Miami's mental toughness.

"There were some guys who were tough, but the majority of the [Dolphins] were not mentally tough individuals," Elliott said. "So to be on a [Steelers] team with a full team of mentally tough guys going against a mentally tough team ... this is going to be fun."

Elliot, who spent just one season with the Dolphins in 2023, signed a two-year deal with the Steelers this offseason. In 15 games a season ago, he had 82 tackles, a forced fumble, an interception and seven passes defended. So far this season, he's recorded 64 tackles, a forced fumble an interception and four passes defended.

McDaniel has no choice but to ignore the comments for now as he looks to get his team out of a hole following a 3-6 start to the season. The Dolphins lost three consecutive games before beating the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. They'll look to win two games in a row for the first time this season when they face the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.

Elliott is enjoying a solid season with his new team thus far as Pittsburgh improved to 7-2 on the year with a close win over the Washington Commanders on Sunday. Elliott and the Steelers have a tough matchup on deck when the Ravens come to town this week.

NFL Rumors: Tyrel Dodson Claimed by Dolphins After Being Waived by Seahawks

The Miami Dolphins have claimed former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Tyrel Dodson off waivers, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Dodson started all nine games this year for the Seahawks, totaling 71 tackles (41 solo), two sacks and two pass breakups. The undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M spent his first five NFL seasons with the Buffalo Bills before signing with Seattle last March.

As for why Dodson, the team's leading tackler, was released, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald provided an explanation on Monday, per ESPN's Brady Henderson:

"We really appreciate T-Dot. He's worked extremely hard, rehabbed throughout the offseason here. I think it was an opportunity for us when we kind of ... took a step back and realized where we were at, it was the best thing for us to move forward that way, give the other guys in the room an opportunity to step up. I hope those guys grab that opportunity by the horns and take it and run with it, and then it gives Tyrel an opportunity to find another spot somewhere else so he can finish the year strong."

Dodson suffered a shoulder injury during the tail end of his stint with Buffalo and landed on the physically unable to perform list, but he was good to go for the beginning of this season.

Now Dodson joins Miami, which is just a game-and-a-half back of the AFC's final playoff spot despite beginning the year 3-6. The Dolphins clearly believe they can still make a late-season run at it, and Dodson figures to play a role in that effort.

Dodson's first chance to play with Miami will be Sunday, when the team hosts the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Miami Dolphins' Tyreek Hill and Odell Beckham Jr. may not have totally been on the same page when they celebrated Hill's touchdown reception in Monday's 23-15 win over the Los Angeles Rams.

The pair of wideouts appeared to mimic a pro wrestling move—what move is anybody's guess.

Hill quipped on X that he "never will plan a celebration with Odell again":

It looked as though Hill was going for an RKO, the finisher popularized by WWE's Randy Orton. Beckham went ahead and clotheslined the eight-time Pro Bowler instead.

Maybe Orton's foes in WWE could take a page out of OBJ's playbook.

Hill came out a little worse for wear while basking in his first touchdown since Week 1.

"It felt good, until Odell slammed my back out, man, you know?" he said to NFL Network's Taylor Bisciotti. "That kind of hurt me, so I'll probably miss Wednesday practice with that one. But it's always good to score in the NFL, it's always been my dream to play at the biggest level, and here I am scoring on Monday night. So very grateful, very thankful for this opportunity."

Hill will presumably be back in the end zone at some point again this season. He'd be advised to steer clear of Beckham when that happens.
